5 star hotel with great variety of services and good treatment. It has a gym, indoor pool open 24 hours a day, outdoor pool, private beach, spa treatments ... breakfast buffet and a la carte or themed dinners. Worth.

Not even worth a star.....tired and dated with faded glory. Good view of the harbour is about the only positive thing that can be said for it.....needs a major refurb programme so definitely not a 5star hotel.

A nice hotel next to the sea. Lovely and helpful staff. Can easily recommend to anyone who's looking for a place to stay in Valletta. Pool, sea view, gym and a delicious breakfast guarantee that one will enjoy their visit in Grand Hotel Excelsior.

From the outside it no longer makes the best impression. Sometimes it can also be brought back into shape. Service and facilities but worth 5 *. And not that expensive, compared to what is called a 4 * hotel on the island. Beach towels, free underground parking space. Where else can you get that? We recommend.

This should not be a five star hotel, not by any means. The hotel needs renovation, inside and out and new, friendly staff!
I had multiple light-bulbs (those still exist?) stop working in the time of my stay, and although room service clearly realized that (they simply turned the next light on) they did not get them replaced. There was also a wall outlet ripped out with cables exposed. Also, the bathroom has seen better days. That being said, I had one of the better rooms, I heard tales of the low priced rooms that seemed to be even worse.
However, what bugged me most was how the staff behaved. From the reception desk at check in (requiring a 50 deposit per night that is still blocked on my credid card after checkout) that was not very friendly when being asked any questions, nobody was really helpful, and at breakfast the people that showed one to the table were super unfriendly, waving hectically to hurry and sit down.
Also, don't expect to be leaving the hotel easily, after a lot of steps you will have to cross a quite busy street, with no traffic lights or walk ways. But at least afterwards it's only 5 minutes to the city center.
This hotel wants to be high class, but acts a lot like a simple tourist joint. Whoever gave it their five stars rating has not visited in a while.
But Malta, and especially Valletta is great, go visit, but stay somewhere else.

Location can not be faulted. However billed as a luxury hotel it falls short of the mark on too many areas to truly be a luxury hotel.

Dirty windows at breakfast. A shower which you can not turn on and adjust without getting wet with the either freezing cold water or scalding hot.

Meals here can hardly been described as top of the range. Breakfast is not 'bad' but three days in a row the cooked items are cool, certainly not hot. Frankly I've had better stats in premier inns.

Finally, I was here for a conference the level of disorganisation on behalf of the hotel staff was something that could not go amiss. I feel sorry for the organisers as they are clearly at the mercy of this.

Anyway, if you are still reading, on a plus side the staff (outside of the conference) are attentive. Check in was easy and efficient, pricing is fair - All things considered.

Probably will come back but this is not a luxury hotel. It's a big one sure and well positioned but it lacks all the basic hallmarks of a five star establishment.

This is our place of choice on a Sunday evening when we want to enjoy a drink with friends in a pleasant environment. Akthough the place is always busy, it is never rowdy and seating is well spaced. One can also enjoy the live music which again is not loud at all. It's just always in the background to be appreciated and enjoyed!!

Very good hotel which is a bit old. Staff and service alone would be worth five stars. However, since the little things in the room are no longer up to date and worn, that leaves a little on the otherwise good impression. Breakfast was restricted due to Covid 19 and could have been a little better quality. Otherwise it was a very nice vacation where the hotel is kept in good memory. If we come back to Malta we will consider the hotel again.

I'm having a terrible experience with this hotel. I'll start by telling you honestly that the hotel is a great stay, so no issues here. My issue regards the deposit that I've made. I had to leave a large deposit for the stay and it's been 3 months today since then and I still didn't get my deposit back. I keep e-mailing them, but they can't give me a straight answer. Too bad! Please be careful about leaving any deposits for this hotel!

As I was here only for a conference I cannot say anything about the accomodation. The food we had was good but not outstanding; according to the standard that the hotel is supposed to have we could expect better. I would and that the hotel is betting old and could be refublished.

Very nice hotel, the view is amazing from the room. We've got welcome drinks also, check-in was smooth. Great offers in the spa, after a massage we tried sauna and steam also.

Only negative point is the cleaning in general, the room was dusty and the bathrooms not so clean.

Full slag. Old shabby numbers, really shabby! Shabby furniture, barely working toilet with rubbed toilet seat and yellowed towels. Thank God came alone, without a wife and child, and only for 4 nights. Never again.
Pros - a large lobby and a decent breakfast.
But still, well, his tries.

Supposed to be 5 star rated hotel but more like a 3 to 4. A lot of things need fixing. The furniture upholstery is coming apart and worn. Room service and cleaning isnt great. Sometimes you get more toilet paper and sometimes you don't, glasses in the rooms sometimes get washed or replaced and sometimes it takes a few days. Fixtures in the bathroom are coming away from the walls and rusty and the toilets are constantly blocked and don't flush properly. Tiles in the pool are loose. Definitely needs an upgrade before it gets too run down.

Classy hotel that gives a true meaning to "Grand Hotel". A shame the room service menu and the reception mentioned 24/7 service and we had to call three times after being ignored twice: call pickup and ended within the same second. Only 2 available choices from the entire menu... Was here back in 2016 and didn't had these issues

The opulence is a little tacky, but you can't imagine of a better location in Malta - right next to the magnificent city of Valletta. Great breakfast with a wonderful view of the private harbour. It's obviously the place to stay given the first night we had the Premier League and the second the Prime Minister and her motorcade.

This is a fantastic location as it is close to Valletta and the bus stop. It was very enjoyable relaxing by the pool and a small section of the beach (which I do NOT recommend going into the water as it has an incredibly high amount of trash floating around). The restaurants are of a relatively high standard, however when we made a reservation at the Tiki restaurant they had terrible service and we waited an hour between the starter and the main course, although the staff was very polite to us in the mean time. The rooms had excellent air conditioning but were quite old and the water pressure in the shower wasn't very good for the thick hair of Korean families. The breakfast was very good though, and they don't kick you out if you're still eating after 10:30. I would certainly recommend this hotel to families with children, the environment isn't a romantic one!
