An elegant environment. Friendly and knowledgeable staff. Very comfortable rooms. The pool area is fantastic.

Wonderful staff and excellent breakfast options. The location is perfect for quick access to downtown Valletta. Only thing holding this spot back is the rooms seem to be a bit older than similarly-priced hotels in Malta.

Mostly look good, but they have stained carpets, julit furniture, a chic sculpture here!

I stayed at this hotel 7-14 May in room 214. A pullover went missing from my room and security were unable to help. This is not what you expect from a 5 star hotel. Please be aware of this risk if you are staying in this hotel.

We travelled the islands of Malta. The Grand Hotel Excelsior exceeded our expectations. Staff are very pleasant and helpful. I would recommend this hotel.

A very nice hotel. Well located at the entrance of Valletta, well equipped, with comfortable rooms. Beautiful outdoor and indoor pools, small private beach, SPA equipment and relaxation of high quality. Side restoration, it is very correct with buffets renewed every day and sometimes theme. The staff is very helpful and efficient (sometimes too much ...).

Hotel a bit old-fashioned but overall very good. Spacious rooms but still with bathtub and little modern furniture. Breakfast and good service. Excellent location.

Great hotel that has its best years behind it. Nevertheless, it is not unpleasant or unkempt. For trips to Valetta and the rest of Malta you have a good starting position. The outdoor area is nice.

Hotel good for service and quality of staff. Unfortunately the structure needs renovation work. The room and the corridors had an annoying smell of mold; in the room, though spacious, furniture was partly ruined; in the bathroom the taps were leaking. From a 5 star I expect better. Too bad because the pool area is well maintained and there is also a small beach with direct access to the sea (but with few sunbeds and umbrellas compared to the customers). Good standard business type hotel. Facilities are good but not outstanding. Food was also acceptable but certainly not special. Swimming pool has no changing area so have to wear a gown and go to room for a shower. Staff variable. Some exceptional people there. Really friendly and helpful. Others indifferent and just do the basics required. Reasonably family friendly. Location excellent for Valletta and buses for the rest of the island. Hotel can arrange car rental if needed.

Wonderful location. The staff were amazing as were the facilities. (Loved the private beach) food and drink a bit overpriced for the quality and the room was a little dark and dated. Overall a good hotel and I would stay again

An excellent staff. Great environment. Helpful, courteous staff. Spa employees are just wonderful; they excel over the rest. Lobby bar serves good cocktails and lunch. Buffet dinner is great as well. Excellent experience.

Good hotel & staff, however, the rooms felt outdated and worn out. The overall impression was okay. The pool area and proximity to everything was a big plus.

One of the most luxurious hotels in malta. Splendid atmosphere and exquisite good food. Service is excellent and staff are very friendly and helpful. A place where big occasions deserve the best attention for a memorable experience.

Nice place but rooms could use updating. My room had a smell similar to something being wet for too long.

A great hotel and just a walk from the centre of Valletta. The rooms are large with high ceiling and powerful air conditioning. The hotel is set out like a five star hotel but I would say 4.5 stars.

The structure is very comfortable clean and appropriate to its category.

Close to Valetta, it is in a stunning location with views across Marsamxxet harbour. The decor is a bit on the dark and heavy side but the room and general areas are clean. The downsides were the service in the breakfast restaurant and the lounge bar. In the former, having been allocated a table by the less than friendly manager, we had our table completely cleared between courses while we were at the buffet on three separate occasions. The staff seemed out of there depth and were always being harassed by the above manager which exacerbated the problems. In the lounge the staff were not pro-active in looking for guests needing service and I had to accost them to get attention. All the other staff were friendly and helpful so it seems in those particular areas a bit more 'management oversight' would help.

A great hotel to relax and enjoy very beautiful views. The cleanliness of the rooms is excellent.

Nice stay but caution deposit of 100 requested at the entrance, debited but returned after 10 to fifteen days after leaving the hotel. It's dishonest!

Welcoming hotel, the staff is attentive, the services offered are ideal. As for the rooms, they are very spacious and pleasant.
Nevertheless, a blow of expenses would not be refusal, a little bit of modernity would do them the greatest good!
Moreover, the situation, just at the entrance of the city, is ideal.

The first impression is of decadent and grandiose hotel, however when it is established it is comfortable, with a pleasant service and allows you a swim in the sea.

Politely went inside to ask the reception if they could order a taxi for us as we were outside walking past! Staff very rude and refused to unless we were staying at their hotel!

As the name suggests, the environment and the service during a stay in this hotel are excellent. Would prefer this as a location as its close to Valletta.

Claim to be a 5 star hotel. I make them a solid 2, mainly because of the location. I found interaction with most staff people to be difficult and less than friendly. Desk staff, bar staff seemed to be barely tolerating their customers. Service in most areas was slow. Breakfast was average, at best, dinner was not good. Room service was not good.

This was a grand hotel, in its day, but in desperate need of remodeling and training. I would not visit this hotel again, for any price.

On the upside, they are close to the old fortress, the old city and breathtaking vistas are available from most places on the property.

A very nice hotel with a great location. Near the city center and buses. Ideal for going out to Valletta or visiting the island. Very friendly welcome and impeccable facilities. Continental breakfast good but lacking a little variety (every day identical) and the tail to be served an omelette or a waffle (a single post and cook). Beautiful indoor and outdoor pools. Any small "beach" (term a little overused!) That also allows to take a small sea bath. The rooms are large and well maintained with a balcony (we were at the 3rd).

Good localization and almost everything is 5 stars apart from the fact that the hotel requires repair.

What can you say the guests are all taken in with the location in that it is on the coastline built at the bottom of a 1 in2 hill that you have to walk up and down to Valletta 15 mi utes walk away or 88 steps up and down out of the hotel Then the staff In the main bar area are extremely rude and ignore guests when you require a dri k to be served and when you ask for one they are totally insolent .The restaurants for breakfast offer the same food daily no variation and not hot food How can you serve cold coffee and tea to guests .32 euros for dinner in the evening is expensive with no drinks this is extra making an average meal cost for 3 guests 150 euros per night .Despite talking to management the whole situation did not change total inefficiency by staff ruined our family holiday that had been looked forward to for months This will not be a return trip I am afraid

Disappointing! There are no 5-star conditions ... There is no minibar, the mini-refrigerator is empty, old furniture from the palace, the bathroom was renovated with poor quality materials, the hair dryer was found in the drawer under the TV, a small TV, terrace ok, but the sandstone in the patio and the hallway was so mad. .. Pretty poor breakfast ... High prices considering what you get is somewhere up to 4 stars. I do not recommend this hotel

We had 24 people previously reserved to stay at the hotel. When we checked in after a long day of hiking no one had told the hotel staff we would be arriving. The front desk clerk apparently lost the dinner reservation as well and tried to double charge the rooms even though we had documentation of the prearranged reservation and payment. As far as customer service goes, I've had far better at least prestigious hotels who genuinely care about their guests. I feel like we tore a page out of Jacob Tomsky's book. The rooms were clean and save the front desk, the rest of the bar and restaurant staff were attentive and kind.

Big hotel with nice pool area. Rooms clean and tidy. Excellent cleaners. Service in restaurants is generally OK, sometimes in the 24hr lounge they are understaffed.
Reception area needs improvement, the staff never lookup when you pass and happily let you stand waiting for ages. Housekeeping have nailed it already, always smiling and friendly.
Overall we have enjoyed the hotel and look forward to coming back.

- Beautiful space rooms
- bathroom, cracked tiling and shower that does not drain too well.
- elevators under construction 2 out of 3 are working
- Indoor swimming pool Ext. surroundings under construction in high season! Noise of construction.
- No stalls inside only jewelry and luxury souvenirs
We opted for half board, we should have had lunch.
Because the restaurant offers nothing exceptional and only deserves a 2 durum dinner tonight for the modest price of 35 excluding drinks!

To end on a good note: the location of the hotel, it is just outside the fortifications.

We arrived at ten to three and our room was not ready yet so reception politely reminded us that check-in was only at 3pm. At 3pm the room was still not ready, due to a maintenance issue, and we were handed our keycards at half past three.

The airconditioning througout the hotel works excellent and you feel soon comfortable and cool after the sweltering, humid heatwave outside.

The room was spacious and well furnished and equipped. The bathroom has a shower and separate bathtub and the amenities were as expected.

The kingsize bed was very comfortable and the good quality linens and down pillows ensured a good night's sleep.

The airconditioning in the room is quiet and and the blackout curtains worked excellent.

For dinner we had the Saturday BBQ Buffet, which was an excellent choice. The meat was excellent quality and the preparation of all courses were of a very high standard.The delicious pastries, beatifully prepared with considerable delicate detail, for dessert deserves a special mention. The service was excellent and you never had to search for a waiter.

The staff were all very friendly and polite and provided exceptional service throughout our stay.

Here the five star grading is not just another sign at the entrance, like so many other hotels in Europe. At this hotel you stll experience 5-star quality, charm and service we've became accustomed to before most hotels changed into accommodation centres for businessmen.

Loved our stay here. Large rooms, 24 hour indoor heated pool, decent views, and really nice staff. The whole hotel is quite outdated but comfortable. Will be coming back.

Service under any criticism category does not correspond to the stars. You are paying for a room with a bedroom and a separate bed and you get two separate and traveling ones.
Staff keeps their jobs and takes the employer's country. Take great care when making a reservation.

Classic and really classy hotel, nice location close to Valletta centre. Minor renovation needs to be done. Also, next to the wheelchair ramp there is a big plant (one of the 2 that decorate a fountain) and it's quite difficult to get through.

As a 5 star hotel should be! We were greeted nicely from beginning to end by all staff members....concierge, receptionists, restautants, pool area, maids, and maintenance person. The place is very well kept, food is amazing, and cleanliness all over the place.

An outstanding Hotel at the harbour side of Valletta with its own outside Pool and private beachside. Very nice is the beachside Restaurant Tiki Village or the Hotel Bar with a wonderful view over to Sliema. Very friendly staff at all areas. The breakfast location has a wonderful view over the bay and the buffett is outstanding. Our hotel room ha a wonderful sea-view was spacious and very clean with a large king-size bed. The bathroom was spacious, too, and the rooms were tidied up by the friendly staff a few times during the day. The walk up to the Triton-Fountain and then further to downtown old city of Valletta is short and nice. Best place to go and stay in Valletta!!

The hotel is located directly on the sea, the central bus terminal is only 200m away, as is the city wall of Valetta. Everything can be reached quickly from here. The rooms are large and well equipped with a shower and bathtub and a large balcony. The staff comes several times a day to check that everything is in order. The high-quality equipment is, however, a bit old.
The breakfast was just first class, you rarely find such a variety. We didn't use the large pool and the spa area. The staff at the bar is friendly and hard-working, but not always optimally organized. Overall, a very pleasant, nice stay.
