I have stayed here since 2012 and the rooms are the same today as then. Now looking tired and dated. Exceptionally cleaned, breakfast fantastic, not stale or watered down. Staff brilliant. Pools and spa good. You get the room attended twice, if you don't want that put do not disturb sign up. Bar service slow. Buffet dinner brilliant. Great location . No yellow towels btw. So overall experience is great, location great, just needs a refresh, but otherwise its great

I stayed at this supposedly 5-star hotel for four nights in November:
On the positive side: - Large, clean and quiet rooms - central location. Ideal for Valletta excursions - Very friendly reception area - own access to the sea
On the negative: - The hotel looks very old. Furniture is worn, upholstery frayed, the carpet is wrinkled, scratches and flaws characterize the furnishings in many places. - The breakfast buffet is a complete catastrophe. Unfriendly and incompetent staff manage to serve a watery coffee in an hour. For all juices, the disparity appears to be 1: 5. 1 liter of juice is punched with 5 liters of water. Bread and baked goods (such as croissants etc) are soft (as if stale) and tasteless. There are open containers around which are filled, for example, with chocolate cream, peanut butter and honey. You can happily cough and spit into this all morning. Overall, the breakfast restaurant is not a place for rest and relaxation. Due to the high noise level, you are happy to be able to go out again. All in all, a price of 18 is completely unacceptable. - The hotel's own taxi charges 20 for an airport trip. A public taxi costs just 17. - The room service disturbs the peace several times a day. On the one hand, the rooms are cleaned, then someone comes by and refills the water so that another person will later distribute chocolate bars. Should one of these people not be allowed access, they will call the room. Everything too much for people who just want to have some peace and quiet. My tip: Have someone clean and they should distribute the water and chocolate.
- The electrics in the room only work sporadically. There are some switches that for me have no visible function - The edges of the bathtub and the tile joints are affected by mold. In addition, the hangers will rust and discolor the bathtub
Expected a bit more. Hotel looks much older and in bad condition compared to the pictures, food (breakfast) was quite bad, although the selection was big.
Beautiful hotel very well located by the sea. Friendly and free equipment: indoor and outdoor swimming pool, spa, gym, loan of towels. Paying: massage Very varied breakfast. Attention, 9:30 am rush hour, wait to be expected.
Built on a hill in the old Town overlooking the ancient city walls. Breathtaking view on the harbour/lagune Waters from the bar located at the reception floor and from the restaurant. Comfortable rooms with all the amenities, European TV channels, bathtub and shower. One of the best options in La Valletta also fort short stays on business or study visits.
This is a beautiful palatial grand hotel. Staff are very helpful and friendly ready to answer any questions. Location is quiet and a good uphill walk to local amenities. However luxury cars which are airconditioned are always ready for you. Rooms are spacious but if you are a non smoker you can smell smoke from the balcony when people have smoked on them leaving the doors open. Otherwise everything you need except body lotion which is always a nice touch. Being picky because it was a fantastic special experience.lotion arrived on our last day. So all in all a great hotel.
The hotel is unfortunately very tired and dated. What s worse is that it s very dirty. Our bedroom floor looked as though it hadn t been vacuumed in weeks. Covered with a different colour hair, etc. The bath towels are yellow from being used and stained. Housekeeping always forgot to replace things. We never received any water in our room. There s no minibar. The plates and cutlery are all crusty with old food. The staff try hard though. At over $400 per night I expected better.
This hotel is wonderful. It generously accommodating, has a professional and friendly staff, and is in an ideal location. My stay in Malta was memorable largely due to the Excelsior Hotel. Nearly every attention to detail was observed. The rooms and public areas were clean and organized. The restaurants offered a wide variety of meals that were all delicious abd with generous portions. I never left hungry. And the prices were very reasonable. My room was large, spacious, and comfortable. The daily cleaning service was thorough and quickly completed. I highly recommend this venue for your stay on Malta

impeccable, huge but maintained facility with the utmost attention to detail. Worthy of a real 5 star hotel. We liked the attention to us reserved (water and chocolates as a welcome) certainly aided by the fact that in February there is low turnout. Perhaps the bathroom of the rooms would be slightly renewed.
Thank you it was a pleasure to stay with you, thanks for the welcome and your smiles. A complete structure and full of comfort, suitable for adults and children. Pool (3) / whirlpool / spa / gym / restaurants / bars / shops and live music ... Fantastic
Just couldn't fault it from check in to check out... Stayed half board 10 days mid May... Had a twin deluxe room, full sea view with a terrace "and what a view" day or night... Food excellent both breakfast & dinner, great service too... Cleanliness of everything & everywhere first class... A few reviews on TripAdvisor said it was a tired and worn hotel , how fussy they must have been, it's a big busy hotel and yes if your very very picky, you could find a scuff on a wall, thats about all... While there there was high security as a President and other VIPs were there, and a navy boat patroled the waterside 24/7...Best hotel I've ever stayed in, loved it and Malta too... Will go again.
Terribile check in. First I was offered a room deep in a ditch. Then i was given a room that was not prepared ..not even bedsheets ... and the receptionist seemed very annoyed for the extra work. Furthermore, the room was already paid for but he insisted for charging 160 euro on my credit card, which of course I refused to give. Incredible for a 5 star hotel. Never again...
We stayed at the Grand Hotel Excelsior the night before our departure via ship (MS6). Impressive building. Nice size. Great lobby. We had a double room on the 9th floor (hope to remember correctly). The room was clean and spacious. It's not my style (the interior) - it looks like "I got stuck in the luxury of the 80s"! However, it is a matter of taste - would therefore not deduct a star! The bathroom was sufficient, but needs an update, at least if you want to play in this "league". Comparable hotels on the mainland offer much more here. The outside area is great, small private beach, nice pool, great huts with bar and snack - but with poor service (everything took too long - maybe had a bad day). The location is actually great, can walk nicely into the old town. Our overall impression was therefore not bad - unfortunately the price / performance ratio was not the best. Still to be recommended.
This hotel was perfect for our stay in Malta. We were close to all the local resturants and bars. The room was clean and we received a really warm welcome from the staff. We used the sun lounger on our balcony and also down by the swimming pool. We had a lovely time.
Hotel is in a good location, close to the harbour and a short walk up some steps and you are in the town. The hotel itself is in need of some TLC, some of the carpets are threadbare and our room is in need of some redecoration. Also, there's an issue with the drains constantly getting blocked, stopping the toilet from flushing and backing up, this happened to four other couples we spoke to on our stay. A handful of staff were fantastic but the rest truly couldn't be bothered with you. I attempted to order some food and drinks from the poolside bar but was told by the waitress that she was too busy and it was too hot, maybe I could ask one of her colleagues... of which I simply took my business elsewhere. Extremely poor customer service!!!
Just like the name goes, this hotel lives up to its name. It is only a short stroll away from Valetta, the capital of Malta and also the main transport hub. The highlight of this hotel is its location, close to the heritage sites and being next to the seas! The views are a million insta views worthy!
The hotel itself is clean and pleasant, just as you would expect from a 5 star property. Top marks for the the views from the Admiral restaurant and also from the gazebo styled Ocean pub. The service could have been better, food for vegans has limited options and can tend to be on an oily side.
The concierge desk is super helpful and perhaps were the most admired aspect of the hotel for me. They made excellent recommendations for the city and island tours. Transport team was excellent too.
I was here in early March, which probably was the reason why the table and chairs in the sit out area weren't at their cleanest. The lighting in the room could do with more brightness, that I guess is a personal preference.
Four stars from me, inching towards 4.5 for overall experience.
Very good service but the rooms need a slight renovation. The floor of the bathrooms is full of marks and tiles with piques and the showers and bathtubs have some taps with a lot of lime.
Excellent hotel in great location. Superb service from staff. We only ate breakfast in the hotel but what a great choice. Some reviews mention the steps down to the main entrance but we did not find this a problem. Stayed 3rd to 10th July 2019
From our first minute in the hotel at the beginning of our holiday until our last minute on leaving today we have had faultless service. We will certainly return and will be recommending to friends and family.
Unique, the fragrance of the past with modern touches. The level of service is very high. Although breakfast is not like in Israel but, most satisfying. On the other hand, the food level in the hotel (especially in the lobby) is very high. Total, an unforgettable experience.
Lacking when it comes to their bars (not being able to sort a "old fashioned" in any way, shape or form is not becoming of any bar), but on point with the rest of what you expect from a hotel of this pedigree.
It deserves all the stars it has. It is near the center of Valletta, with an internal garage. All services, including gym, indoor and outdoor pool. Efficient and very attentive staff.
The hotel does not meet the requirements of five stars. The building and the interior of the rooms are outdated and require major repairs. The spa area is not functioning. Referring to the epidemic situation, could warn about the restrictions on the hotel's web page. Breakfasts are so-so, 4 stars will come down. I liked the work of the staff.
Three reception 3 ones, one welcome drink male staff, one male concierge were the worst. In check-in time at 3 o'clock on May 21. Check-in at the reception prioritized Caucasian, I was kept waiting for 15 minutes. The staff The restaurant staff at breakfast is unfriendly and doesn't greet. Although I stayed for 2 minutes. The restaurant staff at breakfast is unfriendly and does not greet the guests. This hotel has problems in management. This hotel has problems in management. This hotel has truly been the lowest service. The tour desk was polite.
Not suitable for five stars. Certainly the exterior of the hotel entrance is dirty and it looks ancient Roman, but you can see a cheap figurine made at a glance that it is made in China. Especially not good are the women at the reception, with a preference for whites when check-in is crowded. Also, the welcome drink is prioritized by the whites, and the Asians are welcome. The concierge was also waiting 10 minutes to receive the baggage back which was deposited by the white priority correspondence. Breakfast is started from 6:30, but I'm having a staff meeting at 7:00. The freshly made omelet should be eaten, but there was no maker. The staff at the breakfast restaurant are also unfriendly and have no "good morning" greetings. Cleaning of the room was cleaned, but only 2 bottles of free mineral water were provided during the stay even if it was for 2 nights. There are major problems with maintenance and management of hotel facilities. Because location is outside the castle wall, we go tired of going up and down of slope more than 15 minutes when we go to nearby shops and restaurants. Accommodation costs close to 300 per night can not be justified.
Nice pool and closeness to old valletta which is very nice. Far from city centre and away from shops. Food and service are not great. Rooms are basic. Air conditioning sounds like a plane taking off. Definitely not worth the price.
Great hotel. You really feel like a guest there. In the morning I had to go to the airport for breakfast, but sandwiches and drinks were ready. Everything well organized. The room was beautiful, as well as the view. I often think back to it and I definitely want to go there again.
Very efficient and friendly service. Excellent location by the sea, allowing swimming in the pool and sea directly from the hotel. Clean room and very nice view. Restaurant offering a wide choice of fresh quality products. Rooms decorated a little "tired" .The benefits and cosmetic products (soap, shampoo, ...) are not up to the height of a 5 * hotel.
