My wife and I ate dinner at Bistro Agnes on their first Friday night. We're really happy that there's a real French restaurant nearby. The food, wine and service all exceeded our expectations. Great French food without being fluffy.

Hands down, one of the best burgers I've ever had. Planning on going back for some of the other fantastic looking entrees. Great beverage and appetizer selections too. Cool, cozy atmosphere coupled with great service.

My wife and I had such a wonderful experience here. The food was excellent, but most importantly, the service was top tier. We sat at the bar and the bartender gave us a wonderful overview of absinthe during our tasting. Would easily go again and recommend it to anyone.

I am very torn between 4 and 5 stars. Overall, the restaurant is cute, with lots of natural light. They have a wonderful absinthe selection and the service staff is very friendly and helpful. The ribeye was excellent, but the short rib dish was a bit charred/burnt. They were very gracious and took the dish back and removed it from our tab. Although I had a good experience, I probably won't come back, as I felt that the food just wasn't quite as traditional as I was hoping. Still a good place.

Extremely slow service. My green bean was raw, my friend's steak was too tough (even though it was cooked medium rare) to slice with the steak knife. It was very disappointing dining experience.

Very warm and inviting atmosphere at this downtown bistro. The cuisine represents everything good about French food while avoiding the negative cliches of abundant fats and cheeses. The cassoulet was fantastic, likewise for coq au Vin, frisee salad, and many other classic dishes. Cocktails and wine were solid as well. Will definitely be returning in the future.

Consistently great where everything on the plate is delicious. Been through a lot of the menu and from lighter items like the Salad Nicoise to the heavier french classics and you can't go wrong. The absinthe menu is also worth a try for the more adventurous. Cozy upscale french bistro setting.

Not sure why google says this is a tapas place... it is a straight-up solid French bistro. I had a beautiful meal (moules frites) and great wines. Everything we had was very classic without being boring or overwrought. Service was attentive and well-paced. Will definitely be back.

Food may be great but their manners are not. As instructed, I left a voicemail request for a 6:30 reservation. When I called later to verify the reservation, it had been misplaced. No room at 6:30. No apology for their mistake. Manager said "he would be willing" to give us a table at 8:45. Hardly gracious treatment of potential diners. I won't try again.

I hesitated making a reservation at Bistro Agnes. We were in Paris two weeks ago, and going to a French joint in Portland just seemed unfair. But, I threw caution out the friggen window, and the three of us sat down in the crowded bistro space on a Thursday night. The menu was French, but with an American schmear that would be out of place in the Gallic capital. Thus, we were safe.

Service was fun, professional and fortunately more Portland than French. Our mussels were plentiful and delicious. My Cassoulet was Agnes's take on the original, but still delicious and gut filling. With great bread, an original wine list, Bistro Agnes is just another notch in Portland's dining mastery. This has to be one of the greatest food towns in the world. Do you Portlanders know what you got?

The food is amazing! The wine list is fantastic as well. It's clearly one of the best restaurants in PDX.
However, you might feel a little out of place if you're under 50 and not working in the kitchen. I was worried I'd need to find an AED machine at some point.
Also, for the service staff* if your guests order more food than what fits on the table, don't bring it all out and make the space super akward. We did feel rushed with our food, but when we had a question or needed a glass of wine the server was never around.

Great service and one impeccably executed menu. These folks know good French cuisine and offer it up with style and reasonable prices. Definitely add seared foie to everything and shaved truffles whenever they have them!!

Stylish, busy, typical french bistro fare. I had the Croque Monsieur for lunch and it was quite good. Reservation recommended even for lunch. Service was fairly slow especially for a Monday lunch.

This place is amazing and we will definitely be back! We had a perfect lunch here that was surprisingly less than we anticipated and every item we chose was perfectly prepared. The onion soup was extraordinary! And the Croque Monsieur was superb but too much for us to finish! We really enjoyed the pork pate and the endive salad as well! I'm salivating just remembering this special lunch!

Saw a cute couple of tables outside. Arrived at 7pm on a Friday, 10 open tables inside, 2 open tables inside, and a waitress that told me it would be a 20 minute wait. I literally watched the hostess book one of the empty tables outside ("that had a reservation on it") and made us wait that time.

I watched as they told other guests who didn't have reservations the same thing, only to watch as they provided those empty tables after a 15-20 wait.

Very good French restaurant. Excellent drinks. Prices are on the high side for Portland but not a problem because quality is high. In summer they have tables outside and you can also sit at the bar.

One of the best restaurants we've eaten in Portland. Super tastefull and creative. The food is served bites size wich allows you to try several different foods. Each bite has a unique taste and leaves you wanting for more!

A fantastic French restaurant inside the city. Staff was friendly and the food was fantastic. We shared the escargot as an appetizer and I'd highly recommend it as it's a bit different than others I've had with the inclusion of cheese. Yum!

Husband and I came from out of state for the Duck game. We were looking for a place walking distance from our hotel and I found this spot and made a reservation a few days prior to arrival. We ordered the tasting menu with the wine pairings and were surprised to learn it was 7 courses with 4 wines for $90/pp. The mushroom/marshmallow was awesome and I wished there was more than one. The cavatelli was great and the quail was a standout for me. All the wines were great and we were definitely not wanting for more food at the end of the night. We thought the value was great and the food refined without being fussy.

Our visit was everything I hope for and then more!!! We were greeted immediately upon walking in. Then seeing my mother with a walker and me with a service dog...it didn't phase them one bit. They were very kind, helpful and accommodating. The experience reminded me of a family gathering were everyone just rolls with the flow.
I can't say enough about the food. Wonderfully delightful. As was our server Emily!!! She was so patient and attentive.
I wish I could give the entire staff a 10!!!
I highly recommend the Creme Brulee !!! The best we've had here in the states!!! Thanks to everyone for a fabulous meal !!!

Highly recommended - Creative dishes and knowledgeable staff made for a great night out. Some dishes would benefit from better plating - mushrooms were gray blobs on a white plate - but Superbite is a great foodie hangout.

We did the chefs tasting. The small bits were great and really good cocktails. The larger plates were good but if I went again I would just do more small plates and skip the larger plates.

Bistro Agnes was a phenomenal dining experience with a great non-pretentious bistro atmosphere. Everything we ordered was top-notch, and the service was perfectly attentive. We can t wait to go back!

Would recommend, would love to go back

Honestly, ended up here because the place my GF wanted to go to (tasty and Alder) had a 2 hour wait. So we went across the street and got seating at the bar here. This place is awesome though, I like absinthe and when I saw they basically had an entire menu devoted to absinthe and/or absinthe cocktails, I was excited. I ended up getting a special (I don't remember the name), which was basically ham and potatoes in this molten cheese sauce with two poached eggs on top. I'm doing a disservice to the dish describing it like this, because it was really incredible. The wait staff were really cool and attentive, the place wasn't super noisy (even though after we got there the wait time also got up to two hours -- i.e. it was packed). Altogether, super chill, great food, great cocktails. The one thing I didn't like was that the barstool's foot rest kinda kept making my foot slide off of it, but yeah that's super minor.

This French-centric bistro is hitting on all cylinders with terrific versions of classic French dishes and a focused but well-chosen wine list. The service is attentive, the atmosphere is intimate and the food is delicious. You won't be disappointed.

Not a bad burger, but.........$22? I was taken there so I was unaware when I asked my associate to grab me a burger (thinking "well, don't want to put them out, so I'll go the burger route. Couldn't be more than $13."). I mean seriously, it seems like money and chic can make some people unreasonably smug.

Perhaps the best restaurant in Portland. The food was unique and delicious. The service was exceptional. They have a full bar with wonderful cocktails and a good wine selection. My husband enjoyed absinthe, and my Manhattan was excellent.

Had a great dinner of sole and mussels. Cassoulet and desserts were also great. Service was good and to the point. Wine was great. Mixed drinks were weakest part of the menu. I didn t feel carribean drinks suited the menu and there were 3.

Exceptional food and service. Chef's tasting menu is the best way to experience the widest range of flavors and textures on the menu. Sad to see the place go; hoping that it's reincarnation (with a french-focused menu) is equally as bold and interesting.

Probably going to be one of our favorite spots for fancy dinners such as anniversaries. Great service, great venue, intimate and quiet. Great wine selection and food is amazing. If you want to do this place right, be ready to spend about 100 per person.

Fantastic! Coming down from Seattle to try this place. I brought my own wine and they were very gracious about it. We had excellent, knowledgeable service from our host. I love when you can ask a server about a dish or ingredient and not only can they tell you what it is but they ll talk you through all of it. French food can walk such a fine line between fantastic and bad and this so exceeded my expectations, the soups, the appetizers, the duck, and dessert were all wonderful! And maybe the best part, especially from dining in Seattle, is for a corkage fee, 4 shares plates, an entree, and dessert it was $85!

Came for brunch. Enjoyed the salmon carpaccio, great smokey flavor without being overpowering like some smoked salmon dishes. Hamburger definitely the knife and fork type. A bit hard to eat, having to reconstruct mini hamburger bites on your fork. The patty was flavorful and the onions were perfect. The pain perdu aka french toast was delicious. Great fruit selection of cherries and apricot. Will have to come back for dinner.

I came for the Impossible Burger. I really wanted to like this place. I had the Impossible Burger in New York, and it was amazing. Unfortunately, SuperBite could not make the burger vegan with hamburger buns, so I was offered fry bread. "Alright, I'll try it."

Well, I get the burger and there is only one piece of bread. Is this still a burger?? It came with diced onions, pickles, and shredded iceberg lettuce. For how much? $15. For an open-face burger. I ate it with a fork and knife. Not a burger.

Next, I cut it open, still excited to see how they cooked it. It was nothing like New York and how Impossible Burger markets the burger. I was anticipating medium-rare, and this was cooked well-done. Something special about Impossible Burger is that you DON'T need to cook it to the same temperature as a cow burger. It can be juicier, at no extra risk of disease.

I paid $12 for the burger in Manhattan. I regret even going for this one, and I still paid more. I wish I could revisit and recommend SuperBite to others, but after this, I can't.

On the upside, the waiter was polite, attentive, and considered every ingredient when I asked about having the burger vegan. However, the waiter didn't seem to think there was a problem serving the burger with one piece of bread.

Love this neighborhood bistro with a French flair. Menu frequently updates with favorites being a main stay. Not inexpensive but also not a pretty penny either. Seats being a bit tightly packed would be my only complaint.

Enjoyed a great brunch for a great cause. The owners treated us to an assortment of classic French treats and worked hard to accommodate my dairy allergy. My husband LOVED his food and can't wait to return to Portland someday to enjoy Cafe Agnes again. Be sure to make a reservation and communicate any food allergies in advance.

Delicious lunch! We shared the roasted beet salad and the Croque Monsieur. Each dish was distinctive and flavorful. We both finished the meal satisfied that we were full and content in quality and quantity. Especially delicious was the quality of ham and cheese in the sandwich and the sauce that was served with it.

Delicious french brunch, heart of PDX downtown. Small interior but lovely ambiance. I would recommend getting reservations due to the intimate nature of the place, unless you are prepared for a wait.
