Ive been here for dinner and recently for brunch. The service was exceptional, and the food has been excellent every time I've been. I definitely recommend this place.

i wanted to post a food pic but it looked so good i couldn't stop. the place has a good feel to it. kinda of like a restaurant in los angeles i loved to visit.
Found myself dining solo at the end of a business trip and went in search of a French bistro. This hit the spot. Ate at a high top in the bar and had a great meal with wonderful, friendly service. The seasonal nicoise salad was sensational. Definitely returning, wife in tow. Merveilleux!
Went for Portland Dining Month last night with friends. Wonderful experience, will definitely return!
Atmosphere was great. And, the food was superb. All of us thoroughly enjoyed our meals.
the service here is better than most. the place has a great feel to it. menu is similar to a restaurant in jacksonville i loved.
A bite of this, a bite of that. I so wanted to like this place. But these were dishes I can prepare in my own kitchen. No standouts, high prices and I was left eating cereal when I got home. The spaghettios which apparently are the hallmark menu item were fine. They reminded me of a dish of mac and cheese my mother made. Palatable if somewhat bland. Hint: a few shavings of truffle would have helped. I think people get excited seeing the name only to be a bit disappointed when the dish arrives beige and lonely on a plate. In a nutshell: OK. I was reminded by the waiter that this was a James Beard award winning restaurant. Which I tried to find but couldn't with a search on the internet. Finally, I understand and appreciate the small bites concept. The problem is in finding the fine line between small and stingy. Half of a table spoon for a tasting dessert left everyone at my table referring to the name of your place upon quick recall as "Small Bites". I'm guessing that is not the take away you were looking for. I won't go back.
I had the pork pate to start and then the mussels. My wife had the filet mignon. Both were delicious, but the best part for us was the ambiance. Definitely a good place to sit back and enjoy the moment.
Delicious French Onion Soup. I really enjoyed this place. I will be back.
I breakfast out once a week, mostly on the west side, and this is the best breakfast I have had in 3 years.
Recently remodeled and rebranded as a French bistro open for lunch and dinner service. Loved the lunch options, pretty affordable and the food is great, as is the service.
We went for the cassoulet, it was sublime! Everything was perfect, from the confit duck leg, to the crunchy, buttery bread crumbs on top. What a special treat! The bistro was very busy and had a lively vibe. The service was great as well. We will be back.
Servers were helpful and their suggestions turned out amazing. Food was superb, drinks were delicious.
4.5 I love OX but Bistro Agnes was a decent runner up. They were very accommodating and created a flight of digestifs for us that were fantastic. Ox takes it over the edge but Bistro Agnes is on the incline.
Good value. Wonderful service. Good date night location
came here on a saturday. the staff was very welcoming and observant. prices are appropriate.
Leisurely french dining...cassoulet amazing & big enough to share with several sides or starters...as was chicken liver pate !
Food was prepared well and ingredients were great. I would definitely go back. Hostess was a good first impression of the place. It was pretty hot in there, so maybe crank up the AC sooner before lighting all those candles. Server took his job seriously, but not in a bad way. He knew the menus well.
The food was very tasty. I had a salmon crudo that was spot on. Foie Gras had too much bread and a bit too sweet of a sauce but the waiter did an excellent job of preparing me for the sweetness. The entree was ok. And the toasted zucchini coconut cake was very good. The meal, as a whole, was good and complimented well be the waiter. He was very knowledgeable and a good salesman.
Pretty good food. A little odd with some of the options but the burger was really good. If you are hungry it's the only option on the menu that seems to actually be filling. Over all that was a good burger.
French style restaurant with great food, but a smaller menu. Wide selection of Absinthe and other drinks. Would be great for a night out. Friendly and polite staff.
An overall good meal. But nothing was extraordinary. A good onion soup, but the broth didn't have a depth of flavor. And at $14 it should have been better than that. Croquet monsieur was way too much bread. Did try some steak and fries which was pretty good.
Went to a couple of brunch spots but they were too full for any more reservations so we came to Agnes... And the food was amazing. Will definitely be a first stop from here on out!!
It was a good experience but I wouldn't say I would seek it again. The best part of the food was the bites!
The portions were ok and some of the food was innovative. The dessert on the tasting menu was bismal! overall there are waaay better places in portland
I have been meaning to write this review since visiting this spot in late May. As someone who doesn't even like French food, I found this place to be phenomenal. Everything we ate was delicious. I had the petrale sole and it was one of the most perfect and flaky fish dishes I've ever had the pleasure of eating. The desserts were also extremely delicious (and huge!!) The service was neither overbearing nor pretentious, which tends to happen at nicer spots in Portland, and the decor was gorgeous! Looking forward to returning to try out the super cool absinthe experience they have going on. Thank you to the whole team here for such a wonderful night!
Mussels , dover sole, oysters, wine...some of the items I ordered and all were fantastic, looking forward to returning and trying the rest of the menu. Lovely french food and they now serve brunch on the weekends!
Hooee: awesome burger! Decent happy hour food menu (5-6, though falls a bit short on the HH drink list.
Love this place. Went last weekend with my boo and had delicious lunch of escargots, which they serve in a unique way, plus salade Lyonnaise. The housemade soda was great too: honey-ginger-lime, I think it was. Great ambience and service too.
Amazing food. Great spot for brunch. We ended up here because of the long wait across the road, but so glad we did. The food was amazing.
Reasonably priced French food that is delicious. Very professional staff.
The food, service and ambience are superb. One of my very favorite restaurants in Portland.
Fantastic restaurant. It was "an explosion in our mouth". Go for the bites : ceviche and the crab and the goat's milk camenbert!!
Wonderful relaxing dinner.Everything was perfect.Food and service excellent.
Elegant. Astounding absinthe collection. Knowledgeable & kind staff. Have done a romantic date night here and a more casual brunch- it works for both!
Great food, atmosphere, and service. We came in with a party of 15 an hour before they closed (we didn't know) and they happily and efficienctly sat us down and served us. They never rushed us or gave us a sign they were closing. Food was great and service was amazing. Definitely something people should experience.
Happy hour was perfect. $10 for five bites which were memorable. Porcini on marshmallow. Tongue nigiri. Great stuff. Wait staff were extra helpful to us too as we visited Portland!
Bistro Agnes once again saves the day. This restaurant is not only delicious it also has THE BEST service. I can not rave enough about this place. If you haven't been book a reservation right now.
We were looking for a place to eat when we didn't have reservations. Since to Tasty and Alder across the street didn't work, we tried Bistro Agnes. It did not disappoint. We had a very light dinner with salads and mussels and a couple glasses of wine. We also had a special appetizer peaches and prosciutto. I would definitely return just to have another bowl of mussels.
Food was good enough, but a little on the "fancy" side for a quick meal. We both had the cheese burger, but we're not mushroom fans - burger has mushrooms mixed in with the meat. Not a huge distraction, but not 100% to our liking. Kinda spendy. Beers were good. Probably won't go back but we're not totally sorry we went, either. We were in a spot for a quick meal without too many options nearby.
Very good food, using interesting, well balanced mixes of flavors! Favorites are the crab bite and the grilled squab plate (for which the salad is disappointing but the meat super good). A tiny minor point, service is friendly but superficial
Fine French dinning that is better than most dinning establishments in France. I really enjoyed their steak frites. When visiting Portland again, I will be back.
The food is barely acceptable. Ordered a lamb tbone and got a really well seasoned but terrible cut of meat... Costco has better meat. The server didn't even ask once if the food was good. To top is off this place doesn't even have an espresso machine. Not recommended.
Two friends and I went there this past Thursday night. Our reservation was 8:30, but we arrived shortly after 8:00. We were told by the hostess to sit at the bar to wait for our table and that we would be seated at 8:30. At that time several tables in the restaurant were empty. A bit later, we were told that the customers at our table had paid but were still lingering. Meanwhile, about 10 customers who came in after we did were seated. At 8:45, the hostess again informed us that the customers at our table had not left yet. We reasoned with her that we were told to wait until 8:30 for a table and it s past 8:30 and we were given one. The manager came and explained that they had miscalculated and apologized. By the time we were seated it was 8:56. When I ordered cow du vin , the special of the day, I was told that they were out of it. By the time we finished eating it was 10:30. Needless to say, dining at Agnes Bistro was a terrible rxperience.
I wonder why we had to wait for a designated table while there were many tables available when we arrived. And I also noticed that all the customers that arrived after we did and were seated immediately were white. Did we have to wait for 50 minutes to get a table because we are Asian?
Awesome cocktails, both the Cavalier King Charlie and Libertine Cafe, and a very nice bartender and hostess.
Small portion so that you can try lots of different dishes. Taste really good and seafoods are fresh!
Excellent menu choices and service. Try the causolet. Also the absinthe drinks
The best of the best. Food, cocktails, wine list and dessert offerings are always on point and the room is bright, light and cheery. You can confidently have a conversation without hearing your neighbor and the service is impeccable!
One of my favorite if not the favorite places in Portland. Very nice cozy (in very best sense) French bistro. It s one of a very few French restaurants in Portland and one of the best as well.
Worth to try, you won t regret
Amazing food and decore. The absinthe drip is uniquely memorable and the staffs are knowledgeable.
Fabulous. Knowledgeable staff took my whim and pointed me to the perfect wine, the beautifully caramelized, traditional onion soup is a must, even if you share it with a friend, the Beef Bourguignon was so delicious we collectively sopped up every last bit of the sauce with bread, and it is well worth trying one of their creative absinthe cocktails. "Death in the Afternoon" was a surprisingly refreshing and tasty night cap. While more expensive than a normal night out, you don't have to spend extravagantly to have a delicious meal here.
Food was excellent, but host staff seemed to be in way over their head, bungling our reservation number(and others) which took a bit of sparkle off an otherwise lovely evening.
Cuttlefish noodles were amazing. Salmon is good value but flavors were all over the place. Nice service and slightly pretentious environment. $4 bread is overkill.
Had a friend come into town and she asked me to take her here again. Bring your hunger - portions are generous.
Everything I have tried at Bistro Agnes has been good, although their drinks and desserts are where they really shine.
Trendy, French bistro fare serving up delicious appetizers, steaks, and pomme frittes. A bit pricey, but make reservations ahead of time.
Great brunch that has unique dishes you don't always find!
They never hired me, but I would still go back, because it's worth it.
THE PORK SHOULDER PLATTER WAS TO DIE FOR. Truly life changing. Melt in your mouth meat. Butter pasta. Butter. Butter. Butter. Melt in your mouth meat. I am salivating just at the memory. The platter was enough for 3 semi-hungry adults but an extra plate or app is never a bad idea. Street parking can be tricky at times so leave a few minutes early. Absolutely delicious, I will be back.
Incredible meal options and great portions... super staff and bar!
Good but not amazing. They re hiding behind salt (meaning too much) with their entrees, they can do better. Service is nice but slow. Space is very nice, perhaps the most compelling quality.
You have to try this place out! Food is amazing, atmosphere is nice, staff is great.
Everything was delicious and the pacing was spot on. Love this place!
Had the beef rib boulignon and another chicken dish. The beef was spectacular. Melted in the mouth. The gravy was rich and balanced and so tasty. The food is expensive but definitely worth it
The staff are extremely kind and friendly.
Decor can do a bit of work.. The chairs and candle light on the table looked out of place for a restaurant of this quality
Near perfect dining experience this evening, from service to setting to food and drinks. Chicken liver pate, duck-sausage-pork belly cassoulet, filet au poivre, brown sugar vanilla creme brulee. Amazingness. Highly recommended, would go back in a heartbeat! Now among my faves in Portland alongside Ned Ludd, Stammtisch, and Kachka.
Literally the best cocktails I have ever had.
Tapas are pricy, but the one I had was very, very good.
Valentine's Day - so good you lose track of time!! Our server Michael was attentive and personable, and owner Donny was both kind and extremely generous. Definitely coming back!
Pretty good food, a little high priced. No espressos, but Stumptown coffee, which is one of my favorites. Staff very attentive.
Great food and friendly attentive staff. Highly recommend lunch. We've been there twice now, and definitely going back to try dinner.
The duck liver egg scrabble was tops! Lovely inner city dining.
Went there New Years Eve for a prix fix meal that was mind blowing. Great service and delicious food, a real must do place!
OMG the food was awesome, I have never had Ratatouille and it was out of this world. The sole was fantastic, the lemon tart and rice pudding were phenominal. They served a potato soup little cup with warm bread that was totally good. The Escargot was the best I have ever had. This is a place we will visit often You should too. Amazing!!
This place is hands down the best french cusine in the city! I wasn't expecting such great food and as a result I ended up eating way too much of it, I just couldn't stop myself it was way way too good to leave any left over. Nevermind the service they could have slapped me in the face for as good as the food was lol but they were great as well, which is rather suprising as it seems to be a common theme in portland resturant dining that the better the food is the worse the service but not so with Bistro Agnes they were very pleasant which made the whole experience absolutely wonderful!
If you like French food, this is your place! The food here is as good, if not better than the food we had in Paris. The service is friendly and attentive. We tried the mussels and croque madame and were very happy with these dishes! You must try the desserts as well!
