Cool decor and a rad vibe but, you will be the smallest guy in there and it turns into a steroid sausage fest quite quickly. Good luck!

Good live music. Spacious bar. Nice Deco. Drinks are quite ordinary, least to say we were not offered any cocktails. Nice terrace.

Cool vibe... but they played 80's music most of the night which I wasn't a fan of.

Beautifully interesting bar and restaurant, loved the Burgers and Bobotie the marshmallows next to the fireplace is a great unique touch and don't miss the malva pudding if you have a sweet tooth!

My friends and I went for drinks which are way too expensive. R74 for a single brandy and coke which is ridiculous. Good vibe, but too expensive.

Family outing on a Sat eve for 12 people between ages 17 - 70. Fantastic eve with good food, good drinks, awesome waiters. Great experience. We left at 21:30pm ... before the youngster 'took over'.

Very great restaurant in the city center. The restaurant has a beautiful terrace with a great view. The staff is super friendly and at the entrance a security guard looks after the right one. The food is sensationally good, well prepared and presented. The selection of drinks is also very good. I can highly recommend it with a clear conscience. Card payment possible.

A great restaurant for drinks and/or dinner with friends. The decor is trendy, the service is great, there is an awesome variety of music and general atmosphere is one of people just having a good time together. If you'd like to go with a bigger group of people, be sure to book in advance as this venue is very popular.

Decent place for Friday night drinks, with a fire place for winter time. Food is South African themed, tasty, but a little overpriced. Good for groups with flexible sizes

You could easily say it's another one of the cool kids spots in Cape Town, but pretty laid back. Situated on Loop Street off Strand Street. They do have burger specials running, def try the coleslaw salad, with its smoked apples, amazing.

Village Idiot has quickly become one of Cape Town's great bars. Can get a bit crowded but good vibes guaranteed most nights.

The vibe is quirky and uniqie with a fire place for the winter nights and many funny sayings all of their walls and artwork that will keep your eyes entertained .. A good night out with good food and great venue

Nice atmosphere, our waiter was kind, polite and constantly checking on us. Music was selectively nice, depends on the type of music one likes, but the dances floor was constantly packed. Had a awesome time there

Gets very busy after sunset. Popular with students. Live DJ. Good for groups and drinks out with friends.

The security guard at the time was what the name suggests and completely ruined what could have been a good experience. Guess where I never want to go again.

The decor is absolutely amazing! Love it! Vibe was good. Waiter "Matt" was friendly and knew the menu well, engaged with his customers :) The menu itself though needs more variety and portions was small on chips and wings but the Mrs Balls Burger was to incredible. Good night all in all! Will recommend it for a good social.

Cool atmosphere and delicious food! It's a huge and very busy place, which may explain why our waitress was not super helpful. There's a balcony for smokers and general fresh air enthusiasts! ^_^

INITIAL RATING 3*: Bar staff is friendly and helpful even when it's super busy. Wait staff seemed overwhelmed. Food was average for the price. Over-promised and under-delivered a bit. Music was terrible.

EDIT: I've since been back to the Village Idiot and the second time around the service was much better. Our waitron was charming and very helpful. The food was much better than the first visit too. The place is busy and can get rowdy after a certain hour and as patrons become more and more lubricated.

Again, if jock-bros and chardonnay poppies are your vibe then this is one for you.

The atmosphere is really cool. There are a lot of beautiful people in the place. In terms of food, the variety is extremely small, with extremely small group portions. It's a great night club ... for a bite to eat, look elsewhere in town.

Top selection of beers on tap, great vibe and food is tasty and well presented, quirky interior and concept nice place for a drink and snack. Smoking allowed outside on balcony.

Sat at the bar and observed the whole scene! Food is good (we had a nice platter), the staff know what they re doing and cocktails are great, you will get a few of the drunken kids around but well...decoration is great, and it gets easily packed with everyone dancing.

A popular establishment... Good food... A real crowd pleaser.
