It's a pub. People walk around drinking, smoking (outside) and chating. Always full, always good music. People are friendly and the beverages are fair in both diversity and price. There's table service if you want to, but usually you buy at the bar yourself.
What a lovely time! Though I never did get my soup order... Fantastic cocktails.
Lovely decor and setting. Comfortable couches. Had a great platter for a reasonable price. Can get very loud though and limited menu options. Enjoyed it
Really enjoyed dining out at The Village Idiot - Great food and a wide variety of drinks on offer! The interior is unique and tasteful. Various specials daily - On this particular Saturday, it was half price ribs (2 - 6 pm), which I highly recommended! Half price cocktails available during this time as well! Awesome place to have a birthday celebration or catch a bite and drinks with friends. I would recommend making a table booking on a Saturday to avoid not getting a table upon arrival. I will definitely be back here!
Great atmosphere and good selection of music from a wide variety of genres. There is plenty to choose from to eat and the bar is both smart and comprehensively stocked. Entry is free unless there is an event on. Crowds are usually decent and dancing is the name of the game. Stop in a for a drink or grab a table and party the night away via a group of friends. Look out for the ostrich at the bar....
Great bar! The staff were great, the vibe was great and the drinks well priced. The vegetarian burger was a bit of a miss but otherwise the food looked great.
Every time I come to village it just gets better and better! The food is always on par, but i must say the service was exceptional this time. Sending many thanks to our waiter Morne' :-) see you all soon!
Wow. Great vibe. The staff are fantastic and the venue is superbly decorated
Awkward waitress situation where she shouted "don't forget to pay before you leave" it was so embarrassing
Great vibe, good music, dance floor is very overcrowded though and the wait at the bar can be lengthy. All in all, had a good time though.
Cool looking place! Wasn't at all viby for Friday evening. Maybe it's a late jol.
This spot is very enjoyable. Good music and alert security
Excellent fare, got the deluxe braai board and a dessert and both were amazingly tasty. Coupled with a great local cider, it made for a great early dinner after a couple of long flights in. Planning on coming back here in a couple of nights to try some other local dishes and their spicy ginger beer.
Always a good place to visit, quite matured crowed.
Very vibey place to hang out with mates after work and late into the night. Drink prices are okay and food is pretty decent too.
A fantastic meeting place after work for winding down. Enjoy South African cuisine done right - the mussel potjie is a must.
I got there early around 5pm, not busy at all. Cute place for sure. The service I got was great, but again it was early. Tasted some beers before deciding on one. I came there for the biltong plate. I asked if they could add some cheese to it and yes they could. Fantastic....just great! I had to take some back to my room, the waiter know that and gave me a togo box right away. I sat outside which is a smoking area but it was nice. For sure I must go.
very good .. relaxed atmosphere with varied provisions. A bit time consuming the service. Food good.
Usually a great place to have a few chilled drinks out on the balcony, with some mates. The food is great, tho they could experiment more and change things up from time to time. Bar and floor staff are awesome, and if you're lucky the head chef might treat you to some amazing card magic.
Bar with a clubby vibe on Friday nights
Good music and good crowd
Not a wide variety on their menu, but the decor and the experience is worh it
It is a bar that is located in the center of Cape Town, near Bree str. Where there are many restaurants. The bar occupies the top floor of a building. It is good to have a drink with friends, it is a very lively place, even for locals and tourists. A little noisy but that's normal for a pub-disco. We were in the terrace area. The service works fine.
Great venue, large bar, a kitchen to die for, good music, pool table, live sports, balcony and fast service.
Definitely going back :D
Bad service from security. We had already gone before and we were never prevented from entering by age (21 years). Yesterday they stopped us and very aggressively left pushing my boyfriend to the street. If the minimum age is to be 23 years old you must put signs with this information and the security guards must have at least respect !!
We arrived, the atmosphere was very welcoming and warm and quite hipster in my opinion but I thought it was a lekker spot. Lots of young people having drinks with their friends but creates a lively vibe for sure.
Service was absolutely fantastic!
Quite surprisingly it was busy for a tuesday evening mid-month.
We decided to try their twodays special which consists of 2x pulled pork burgers with coleslaw and a jug of beer for R130 and we decided on a side salad to share but it was smaller than expected.
The drinks arrived quickly and food shortly after.
The burgers were average, I thought it could have done with more coleslaw, and I liked the salad but he didnt so much.
We really enjoyed our first time visiting but will probably only return for drinks as the service and atmosphere is what we enjoyed most.
Easy going vibe but with limited menu. Cost effective pricing
Great menu (steak and pap!), lekker vibe after hours with hip DJs and music. Great place to dance!
Very cool place to mellow out, have a drink and something to eat
Great for steaks, professional and friendly service. Balcony seats ard our favorite.
Amazing place even has free wifi and the music food and drinks were on point and great staff
Tasty food, good beer, incredibly friendly staff. Highly recommended.
A fun night out, fun music, good wine, and good snack platters.
Awesome social space, just gets too crowded late at night at times, can't walk without shuffling
Well. Despite the many fights happened there! Still a nice place
The place is great for social hangouts over a couple of beers and complementary snacking (potato fries, chicken wings etc). They do have meals until late (kitchen normally closes before 10pm). However their food is not too bad and not the best either. They do also have great waiters too.
We were happily surprised with the decor and the ambience during an early lunch spot. The waiter could have smiled a bit more but he was efficient. My husband had the prawn bunny chow and said he would rather have had the chicken one, as the prawns had heads and shells still, which made it awkward to eat. I had the rib starter and it was very filling!
Great place to meet friends and filled with character
this was a random find and the beer selection is great. a fun viby place with a great view of from the balcony.
Great ambience, good services, excellent food - tried their ribs: very succulent and tasty, fell of the bones. Decent selection of craft beers - very central location down town!
Loved the quirky vibe. Truly a village, unique. The braai board, delicious!!!
A place for the perfect Cape Town vibe, ideal for drinks with mates, their food is really average however.
Excellent. Just excellent. Quirky, good vibes, good food and well priced!! Very nice
Really good for groups in the evening for casual drinks
Cool place to hang out with friends. Good food and drink.
Very Cool traditional bar and Restaurant good food and friendly staff. Awesome craft beers.
Tried it once and loved it since then, great place to hang out for drinks and food...
The Village Idiot for me is an odd kinda place. It offers a warm environment which has a bit of personality. We went here for some work drinks, and it was fun and comfortable. The patronage was varied, and it seemed that the clique of Cape Town didn't really apply to this place.
It is worth a visit for the decor and vibe.
Horrible. The blond hostess at the door were clearly not eager in letting us in. We arrived 22h05 and were looking for some food and drink, only me and my wife. Got told there were no tables available whilst I was looking at a massive empty table right behind her. Village Idiot won't see me again.
