She also made false accusations about me regarding the fact of South African People being xenophobic.
Fireplace and marshmallows on sticks when you arrive on a wintery night. Cool weeknight specials (Tuesday R300 = 2 mains and a bottle of red) expect barstyle food. Quite expensive otherwise

The Village Idiot is located in the middle of the city next to the Longstreet. Very rustic but tasteful furnishings. The food is very good and reasonable for the price. The portions are not very large. Here I recommend a pre-departure to choose. At the weekend after the dinner the tables and chairs are pushed away and the area can be used as a dance floor. Friendly and attentive service. In any case one should visit the village idiot, especially since all the age groups meet there. On the balconies, smoking is allowed.
Great bar and restaurant. Sitting outside on the balcony watching the down town streets while having a beer, it's great.
Food is delicious and the staff fast and friendly.
The first two times we went, it was really cool. but the third and last time, two friends arrived later and could not come in because of sheer prejudice, and the security at the door was extremely rude when we questioned why.
Thomas was really friendly, and kind. We had craft beer which is from local, and finally we could have famous dish, Braai and Bobotea.

We had the best of both worlds. A Durban bunny chow and a Braai platter, half price drinks and we watched Rugby.

More seriously, the menu is simple but has a varied enough selection for anyone, which is part of the charm. We had a great time on one of the quieter evenings. I am definitely planning on going back!

Restaurant, bar and club. Mainly for the 20's crowd. Would recommend.
Good staff and venue. Attracts a heavy drinking, loud and often drunken young crowd. This does not reflect on the fact that it is well run and the security is polite and professional. Lively, often raucous. I hear the food is filling and good value. My visit was after 9pm on a Friday. Decor is funky and fun.
Average food but great spot nevertheless. A bit more jock friendly than hipster friendly.

Excellent bar. Amazing super decor, attentive staff and great songs from the 80's and 90's with the right dance floor to dance! Good to go with a big crowd, but also to go to two! I recommend
Really well priced food, and a decent atmosphere. Staff are usually helpful and friendly. The later it goes on a Friday and Saturday the drinky/clubby it becomes. If that's your thing great, if you're like me this place is great till 9pm, good till 10pm, and then I need to go home and sleep because I've become an old man in my thirties.
The food was okay. The vibe was good, however, the attitude and treatment we received from the waiter was appalling. I had called to make a reservation before my friend and I came to the restaurant. The waiter who served us was rude and very impatient. He took his time before he came to take our order. He would roll his eyes when we asked for more time to look at the menu. When the food arrived, he basically threw the plates on the table. He made us really uncomfortable. I do not want to allude to the fact that this was a racial incident, but it pretty much felt like it. It s disgusting to say the least, that we as customers should tolerate dealing with mistreatment from a waiter especially when we pay for a service and still paid gratuity of 10% each.

This place can get very busy, great venue to meet up with friends and have a few drinks and some good food. If you plan on going over a weekend , book a table, grab a can into town and just have fun

Fantastic discovery that we made having just come off the mountain and wandering back through town. Stopped in just because of the name to have a drink and we were so impressed we came back that evening for some delicious South African food and much needed drinks. Staff are great - big shout out to Jethro who gave us some great advice as a local to a couple of Brits new to the city and made sure we got back to our hotel safe. Great find, would thoroughly recommend.

The atmosphere is good, but the service was not great. It felt like those waiters thought they were doing me a favour for servicing me.
To be honest my evening was a complete blur, with brief flashbacks of tequilas and beer. Someone with a flamingos scarf to. We were ushered to the front of the queue as we had booked for that evening and was greeted by a lovely hostess, the evening was a hell of a lot of fun though, music was good and the vibe was great.
Love this place. Food is great, staff attentive, outdoor seating area, love the 'booth' like seating. It's a good location for birthday's.
