The finest restaurant outside Boston. A special treat
Great food and atmosphere. Pricing high but worth it. Rented out for small family function-anniverary party. Had entire restaurant to ourselves. Beautiful building inside with great views over hilly pasture. Function coordinator and serving staff were excellent and accommodating. Food was incredible.
The food is great, but be prepared to wait for 2 hours on a Saturday if you don't have a reservation, which is a good sign.
Service and ambiance great BUT food disappointingly bleach! Caesar salad dressing tasteless, chicken pot pie: crust good BUT dry without gravy; beef stroganoff : beef tender, noodles ok, BUT, sauce tasteless...had to use salt and pepper, and I rarely use salt. We thought this restaurant was going to be spectacular and it was just ok for food
Food was delicious although a bit pricey. I definitely preferred the steak over the chicken. Service was good, and even with the hard times currently, everyone wore masks and had two separate eating locations. One side was reservations with more dinner options, while the other side offered your typical BBQ options (no reservation needed).
Lovely local and cozy atmosphere for upscale wine and steak. The new fried pickle pickle appetizer is a must, along with their cocktails ranging from bitter, to sour, to sweet. Leave room for their seasonal dessert menu - and if you're a 'repeat offender' to the establishment don't skip the pots de creme.
4 couples at bar with 4 bartenders and waited awhile for drink order. Ordered 2 martinis and they tossed ice without asking if we wanted it.
Gibbet Hill is one of my favorite restaurants in the middle of the state. Their steak and drinks are consistently excellent, as are the ever rotating seasonal appetizers.
We recently visited Gibbet Hill just after restaurants started to reopen from the pandemic. They were short staffed, but the hostess and waitress were both very accommodating. We asked to change our seats from outside to inside and they did so without problem (it was extremely hot that day). We felt safe inside, as the tables were spaced apart very well. There was a multitude of arrows pointing you in the right direction in case you needed to use the bathroom or maneuver around the building for any reason. All of the staff was wearing masks.
The food was it's normal excellent self despite being short staffed. I actually decided to try the homemade meatballs, which was a new addition to their menu at the time. They generally change things seasonally, so I'm not sure how long it will last, but it was arguably the best meatball I've ever had (including ones that I've gotten in Italy). It was perfectly seasoned, the sauce was delicious, and the meatball was perfectly cooked. I switched things up and tried a salmon dish with a salsa verde as well and while it was good, I would probably stick with beef since it's just so good. I typically order the filet mignon with carmelized onions and it's probably the best steak in Massachusetts outside of Boston. Props to the kitchen for doing a nice job even while short staffed because of COVID.
Overall, I've been to Gibbet many, many times and have never had a bad meal. In fact, the meals have been consistently excellent and well worth the money. Highly recommend Gibbet, pandemic or not.
Great food, restaurant decor is very nice. Service is outstanding. Drink menu is also well done. There is something for just about everyone on each menu.
This is our go to spot for special events in our family you will never be let down with the five star experience you will encounter in this hidden gem. The farm fresh meat and produce is expertly prepared and the atmosphere of the restaurant just makes the experience that much better
Great place to eat.. Excellent friendly service! Food is top notch!!
Tom the server was the best. Barely warm potatoe, loaded but not really, tough tips. Both better at the 99. But the Cindy's crab dip was very, very good.
Always superb food. May have a short wait with reservations.
Beautiful fine dining with some impressive eats. A little more on the pricy side but superb appetizers and great service. Lamb was served with polenta and blueberries of which I was not a fan. The lamb itself was a large portion, but the flavor needed a little work. This is a one time trip for me, but if iI had to do it again I would try the duck instead.
Haven't had a bad meal yet. If you are lucky enough to have Ashley as your waitress in the lounge area you end up with a 10 plus evening.
Mind blowingly delicious steak. My wife got the chicken pot pie and I got the NY Sirloin and my mind was blown. Small but great beer selection. Their sides were mouth watering. I wanted to keep eating, but I over ate. Will definitely go back. Service was exceptional.
The steak was great but the great ends there. The potatoes were undercooked, we had to wait 5 minutes for the sour cream we ordered with our potatoes, mushy carrots and extremely slow drink service. I was so excited to go but most likely won't be back.
Always amazing. Food, atmosphere, and staff make this a favorite. Had our employee party there last night and it was a hit!
Gibbet Hill hosted our holiday dinner with a party of 19 and did a great job. Food was top quality and served promptly throughout the evening. Our servers were attentive and friendly.
Magnificent steaks in beautiful barn setting. Even with large group, service was attentive and prompt.
Great restaurant! The food and service was excellent.
The best food I have ever had in my life!!!! Totally worth every penny!!! And the staff is so friendly and wonderful, I cannot wait to return!!!
After sitting down we were given a nice little speech by our waitress explaining how they grow their own this and that and trade with other farms for what they dont have etc..etc... Assuming this is to explain why the salad with no meat was twelve dollars and the steak tips to go on top would be another seventeen
Very much over priced and the food was ok.
Bliss garlic red mashed potatoes was ok , needed more garlic.
Two types of grilled cheese for appetizer , goat cheese one was pretty bland, the other was very good.
Dropped $38 on the smaller porter house cut. It was very good, but the au-jus sauce that I asked to come with it was unbelievably bad. It tasted like and looked like super bland brown gravy (upcharge). The mac and cheese that came with it was awesome.
The fried pickles were great , all four of them....
The wifes haddock was just ok, the salad came with a chunk of saran wrap it in. The place was very clean and accidents happen so the cling wrap was an accident no biggie. The waitress and management were outstanding but we waived off offers for a replacement salad. No big deal.
Food took a long time and was overpriced. Service was outstanding. We won't be back but we're glad we tried it.
One of the best meals/steaks I've ever had. Everything we had was astounding( normally I'd use a word like amazing or phenomenal, but I was literally stunned by every element of this meal). Everything from the crab dip to the Meyer lemon cheesecake was of the highest quality, the filet was the best I've ever had. Highly recommended totally worth going out of your way to try this place.
One particular Bartender had ruined the restaurant for us. Three visits, and she was miserable each time. Spend good money and eat three courses, and happy to tip, but she makes every effort possible to make you feel as if you are bothering her when you need or want something.....like a drink for example. Food is good, atmosphere is also good.
Returned recently, service has gotten worse.
And food has not changed, no reason to return.
Cindy's crab dip is unbelievable! Everything we have tried on the menu has been wonderful. We highly recommend!!!!
Anniversary Dinner. Gibbet did not disappoint. Everything was Fabulously delicious. Our Waiter was very pleasant and informative.
If you haven't visited Gibbet yet, you need to put this on your Bucket List.
Onion aioli appetizer! Skirt steak wonderfully spiced and grilled. Lamb burger! Truffle fries! Shrimp scampi! Pot de creme!
A farm to fork restaurant! They grow most of their own produce. Well maintained restaurant and surrounding grounds. The crab cake was very good. Steak was salty. Staff was friendly and attentive.
It was okay but not worth the hype. Three of us ordered different types of steak and it was chewy. It was b-day celebration for someone in our group and I asked for a piece of cake to surprise them. They said they dont do that. We wont be going back.
This place is always great, food is amazing and fresh and cooked to perfection. Seasonal veggies are always done well and with a new twist. Huge wine menu and super friendly, knowledgeable staff. Get a glass of the Patriarch, you won't regret it!
great steak house with farm to fork ingredients. If have party of 5 or more call ahead for reservations, as walk ins with that number is tough
Lets start with the crab dip. It arrived not as hot temperature as anticipated, the Martini was overly sweet and tonight's filet mignon was too salty! On top of everything, the AC on the 2nd floor was cranked right on my neck!
Had my anniversary dinner here. Did not disappoint! Best steak I've ever had.
The food! The atmoshpere! It was spot on. Perfect spot for cocktails, sunshine, cow watching and of course delish food!
Food and service were excellent. A bit noisy for our taste. Bring a sweater as the restaurant is in an old barn and hard to keep at an ideal temperature.
We arrived at this restaurant for lunch. we heard about this place from quite a few people. Well, it was a winning. The staff members welcomed us with a smile and we felt fantastic. The food was just great. We had a great time and we will visit this place again. we highly recommend this place.
Super considerate to Celiac folk! Earl Grey creme brulee my new favorite dessert!
Food was disappointing. Service was lacking. Not bad just should have been better.
Food was delicious, Fast service, Great atmosphere, Definitely high recommended
Great food. A little pricey but worth it. Great place for a special occasion and or couple that needs a date night.
Excellent food, top notch service and great scenic view.
We had a very nice dinner here last week. The restaurant is rustic, very clean, and modern. Service was timely, friendly, and non-obtrusive. We enjoyed the local fresh vegetables. Our entrees were tasty; we had a sirloin and a salmon. Overall, we enjoyed a terrific dinner for roughly $100 including drinks and dessert. I would recommend it for a very nice dinner and as an exceptional value.
It was my 2nd time visiting and both times I got their filet mignon.I loved how it was cooked- medium rare was perfect for me. I had mine with mushroom and potato. I usually never finish my steak but I finished it for the 1st time. The service was really good too.
Had a party of 6 and they were super great. The food was wonderful and we are planning our next trip on the ride home. Our party had three steaks and they were cooked perfectly!
We celebrated my husband's birthday with our friends here. We had never been. The food was delicious. Service was great. My husband and his friend both had the aged steak and they ate every bit of it. They both raved about how good it was. I had the salmon and the baked potato...it was sooo good. We will definitely be returning. Make reservations, it was packed there.
Oh the barn. First time to a farm to table restaurant.
Pricey but worth it. Menu is complex enough to always have something interesting but not overly complicated. Bar and wait staff are polite and timely.
The atmosphere is a must. A great restaraunt that has the feel of a 18th century New England farmhouse. The waitstaff is first class and the food is really well done. The lack of green vegetables in the off-season is more than made up for with the carrots and brusselsprouts. The salmon dish was first class and the ultimate judge of a good New England menu is the quality of thief clam chowder. Thanks for a great experience! Highly recommend.
I love the place and the vibe out here. Very relaxing
The customer service was amazing. My Cesar salad was a bit salty, but they replaced it with out question. Everybody else in the party really enjoyed their food. The place is elegant. Very nice atmosphere. Can't wait to go again.
Fantastic !!! Service is outstanding food was extraordinary delicious Rib Eye MELTED in your mouth mash potatoes are the best. Caesar salds were crisply dressing was delicious of course our dessert was out of this WORLD.APPETIZERS were delicious. They were extremely busy but each course came out in a timely manner. Kitchen staff and the Chef's Presentation was top notch. Highly recommend Rab
Country home setting with 5-Star chef dining. World quality steakhouse. Unbelievable apps and cocktails. Special occasions made spectacular here.
Love love Gibbet Hill! Service is always excellent and the food is top notch! A lot of the food is sourced locally or on the property, steaks are always cooked to perfection, the baked haddock is also a great go to! Highly recommend it for dinner or even a special occasion!
Amazing food... just amazing. Everything you eat you really enjoy and take it all in
My girlfriend, myself and my parents decided to celebrate my father's birthday by having a nice relaxing dinner here. As returning guests we expected the same great quality and customer service we experienced the other times we dined here. More
Phenomenal staff and food. Extremely beautiful location.
Excellent meal...as always! We've enjoyed many dinners and gatherings here. My wife and I just celebrated her birthday. Great atmosphere with an expanded bar area. Highly recommended!
Place is awesome. Not cheap but what good thing is?
Amazing dinner, atmosphere was wonderful and our server was fantastic. Definitely looking forward to going back.
Beautiful restaurant with a view of the pasture. Many ingredients are homegrown and used artfully in their amazing dishes.
Filet Mignon was 10/10.
Very impressive bar program as well if you'd like a nice wine, beer or craft cocktail.
A little pricey but you get what you pay for.
Delicious bone in ribeye with truffle butter. Wonderful service from Masha
Great food, atmosphere and setting. Views out windows are like a postcard. Lots of great entrees to choose from.
***Scallops, beet risotto. Server: Wendy***
Dined for the first time at Gibbet Hill. Hubby made reservations in advance for New Year s Eve. They had their regular menu with a few specials.
Apparently, their chef is new. We weren t familiar with the previous chef, so we can t compare. What we do know is that the food, service and ambiance was amazing!
I am very particular about my seared scallops- they have to be tender - not tough or chewy. And I don t like any fishy taste. This is what I can tell you... they literally disolved in my mouth. The best seared scallops I have had in years.
The duck pate was perfect. Appetizer servings were generous.
My husband ordered the porterhouse steak. He said some bites were better than others. But he just doesnt like the porterhouse cut anymore. He s gotten used to more lean dishes. True porterhouse fans would probably be happy.
Wendy was our server, and we were so pleased. Excellent service. We will be back and ask for her if possible.
We loved the rustic, classy setting. Reservations are typically needed.
Rustic elegance at its best! This is our favorite for celebrating our anniversary. Enjoy the filet mignon, wedge salad, and save room for the delectable pots du creme!
Last night I enjoyed Gibbet's for the first time and enjoyed it so much I'm eating there again right now, enough said (mic dropped).
Very upscale yet country setting. The food and drinks are always seasonable and the service is excellent.
While Gibbet Hill Grill is an amazing space, the food is not. The kitchen needs help in some basic skills flavor, heating food, & plating. Last night my lamb meatballs were barely warm; the dish was not impressive. The beautiful bone-in rib eye steak was good, BUT it was served with runny cream of leeks, French fries, ketchup, and bone marrow ALL in the SAME plate. Did the kitchen run out of dishes? It was unacceptable to have runny leeks puddling into a nice steak. The leeks should have served in a separate dish, same for the ketchup. The leeks were completely overcooked and flavorless; you could barely tell they were leeks. As for the delicacy bone marrow at $8, there was barely any in the bone; does the kitchen not check what is plated to a customer?; the server did remove that charge from the bill. The Gibbet Hill Grill needs to step up its basic kitchen skills. Given the cost, customers expect to at least have good food, if not exceptional food plated appropriately.
Great setting, always lively and exciting to be a part of the atmosphere. App..and entree's are to die for. Really good cured steaks. Need some work on the dessert menu. In my pics there are, Mac& Cheese, steak salad and a bone in steak well. All delicious...
One of the nicest restaurants in the area. A bit pricey, but worth it.
Make your reservations weeks in advance for a weekend dinner. Sunday night was extremely busy and most guests had a reservation when they checked in. Loved the atmosphere, attentive staff and their pleasant service. Dinner was extremely well prepared for all in our large party, all meals arrived at same time, cooked/prepared as asked and very delicious! I had the Scottish Organic Salmon plate and it was cooked to perfection... just a touch over medium. Enjoyed the Cheese Fondue appetizer before the main meal, and that was a tasty starter that our whole party enjoyed as well. The addition of cranberries, what a great balance to cut the rich cheese. Would definitely return again for a special occasion dinner with a small or large party. Night quality food & service.
First time there, love the atmosphere even more the porterhouse steak
Beautiful location and great staff...worth the trip just for that. However the food could use some improvement. Everything we had seemed bland with little to no seasoning or depth of flavor. I can understand wanting the fresh ingredients to be the star, but it is not working here. Caesar dressing with no anchovy or lemmon flavor? Dry overcooked steak tips? Vegetable risotto with underdone squash, no evidence of cheese or seasoning. Plus, plate prices are no bargain.
That said I will return for the architecture and the beautiful meadow with grazing cattle.
Everything taste perfect and staff knowledgeable and helpful - if had more money would be there more often
The service was top notch. The food was good, but not great. Two medium rare steaks came out very rare. Given how busy this place is, we ate them as they were.
The steak was very tender, but very under seasoned. The braised mushrooms were good, but again under seasoned.
One saving grace was a good Gibbet Hill labeled IPA on tap.
Deserts were excellent. Carrot cake with luscious caramel sauce, and lemon cake with lavender raspberry sauce and vanilla ice cream were both worth the extra calories.
Thank you for a wonderful Thanksgiving dinner and evening. It was a great community gathering to honor the Groton Police and Fire Department. Both departments were very impressive in full uniform. The band was terrific and I look forward to next year. Happy Thanksgiving.
Excellent service and menu, beautiful location and decor, easy reservations even just for a party of two. Food was prepared well and very flavorful.
This is a great place with great food and service. It's obviously very expensive, but you get what you pay for. The reason why I am giving it three stars is because there is only ONE vegetarian entree on the menu. I cannot take my girlfriend here for this reason. This is very frustrating because the atmosphere and food are great. All you need is 2 to 3 vegetarian options, so that people have a reasonable selection and it feels like a real upscale dining experience for everyone, not just the meat-eaters. That being said, I cannot give lower than three stars because the restaurant is great. It just needs to make this one change in order to catch up with 21st century society!
Make a reservation, sit back and indulge in culinary greatness! Atmosphere is phenomenal, drinks are top notch and the steaks are to field for!
Why haven't you gone here yet?
My wife and I came here for our 1 yr anniversary. The food was great, service was great and the set up made us feel very comfortable during COVID. Will be back!
Great place to have a delicious dinner in an exceptional setting for an excellent price. Highly recommend.
Food is great! Atmosphere is great.. Prices are not.. This is not a place to visit every week because of that.
