Very good, fast service and good prices.

love this place! delicious sushi- super affordable, super delicious, the servers are so sweet! The place is small true and plays some rockn' electro swing so it's pretty modern so not your standard sit down quiet place. mmm so delicious! also they won a lifetime customer with a special gift of Pocky :-)
Super delicious and affordable! I had always heard great things about this place, and now I know why. The sushi was huge and very affordable. The donburi was bomb. Even the little treat they leave with the bill was yummy. The place is small, but it s lively and full of energy. I love a lot of sushi spots in the east bay, but this one might be near the top of the list!
Tiny spot with good sushi at a good price. Staff have always been very friendly.
Best sushi I've ever had! Authentic and served fast. Just be ready to wait in line, because this place is super popular.
The quality and freshness of the fish here is head and shoulders above anything else in town. This place treats sushi like art and it reflects in the taste and presentation.
The sushi here is excellent, with great variety, and the prices are reasonable for what you get. The only complaint is their building, which probably violates some sort of fire code (the door opens inwards, and often times it is so crowded that the door cannot be opened). I recommend ordering take-away, rather than sitting in their cramped quarters, unless it's off-peak hours.
Tiny place can be uncomfortable for some people, but I think it gives an interesting atmosphere to the place. Friendly staff, fresh fish, and reasonable pricing. It seems like a ton of people order take out from here.
Cheap and great japanese food! Hard to find combo, but really small, so we usually just do takeout.
It was good standard Sushi/Japonese cusine. Plain Udon soup comes in a nice big bowl and worth the price. The rolls are decent but nothing fancy. Not bad for the price but not astounding either. If you are looking for a place to eat sushi and don't want to drop fifty bucks this is an acceptable price and taste.
Geta is the best place for sushi near Piedmont, but you need to get there sellers if you want to eat in.
Use to be a fan for their quick lunch order service. No more!!!!
Worst experience ever. Messed up lunch order. They didn't include my sushi in the to-go bag. We found out after we drove away. Called the restaurant and tried to pick after about 2 hours later. The hosts tried to give us the same sushi they made for us that was kept at room temperature for more than 2 hours. How gross! Beware!!!
This is our go to sushi place. It has quality, simple rolls at a reasonable price. My favorite is their spicy tuna and spice salmon rolls. Yummm!
Simple and delicious sushi at a great price. A must stop in Oakland. Quick and friendly service. Limited seating so get here shortly after opening or be ready to wait 10-15 minutes.
I used to like this place but the quality has significantly gone down. There are scales in the salmon roll. The tuna is dark and does not look fresh.
PRO'S - GREAT PRICE!! good food, lots of selections, always fresh.
CON'S - wish they had more tables and improve on the cleanliness.
I've been here many times with friends for lunch and dinner, and while the wait can be up to an hour, the service has been stellar, the food is excellent and the over all experience is great!
The toro was amazing. Would recommend trying the chef's sashimi special. It was pretty good
This tiny street cafe has the best sushi I've had in quite awhile, and the service was excellent! The place was packed when we arrived, and the waiting list was a sheet of paper hanging outside the door where you sign yourself in. We waited outside for nearly an hour along with a few other groups while takeout customers came and went. They were nearing closing time, and for a bit we started to wonder if we'd get a table, but we were the last group, and the staff made extra effort to get us in. The food was well worth the wait and the servers treated us like the first customers of the day instead of the last. Do check the hours before you go as the hours are a bit odd.
This place is awesome, great prices and great sushi. I highly recommend getting the Hamachi collar and the sashima combo. The restaurant is small, put your name on the list, and wait around and make sure you don't miss your name being called. They will put you back at the bottom of the list if you do even if you are back before the estimated wait time.
Everything looked and tasted fresh and the service was impeccable!
One of the better sushi restaurants in the Bay. Monk fish lover, sweet shrimp, Hamachi, etc. Tiny little place with great service. Good for take out
High quality sushi at amazingly reasonable prices. The udon soups are also yummy.
Affordable sushi and tasty. Great neighborhood spot. Come early to avoid the line
Good quality, and inexpensive, as far as sushi goes. Fresh fish and one of my pickiest palate friends who grew up in Japan approves too! Small place, so be ready for a line or do take out.
Great Japanese food! Although the place is too small for dine in
Normally, I consider eating at a hole-in-the-wall sushi place a death wish. This is a wonderful exception to my usual rule-of-thumb.
Food: You seriously can't go wrong with anything here and their prices can't be beat. The freshness and selection of their fish is equal to, if not better than, some of the most upscale/expensive sushi restaurants in the SF Bay Area. The salmon sashimi appetizer (~$10) has become a standard part of my order. If you're into fancier rolls, my friends and I have sat there licking the plate after finishing the Lion King roll (~$7). If you're not feeling the fish items, they have tempura, bentos, donburis...etc that are also delicious. Honestly, I can go through the menu line-by-line in this review and rave about every single item....but that's just excessive.
Atmosphere: This restaurant is TINY. I wasn't exaggerating when I called it a hole-in-the-wall. If you're not the first 5 parties there when they open, have fun standing in line. Don't even attempt to dine in if there's 5+ people in your group. Eating in gets pretty cramped and they'll often try to squeeze 2 parties of two in a small four person table. I highly recommend ordering out.
Service: The staff definitely manages the craziness well. Takes a while to get a table but once you're in, the food comes quick. Similarly, it's not a long wait when you order for takeout, and you can always call in your order ahead of time. The staff is always very friendly and will give you some free Pokki or other Japanese snacks whenever they think they served you too slowly.
Geta is hands down my favorite sushi place in the Bay Area. No competition.
Geta manages to do sushi fast, cheap, and occasionally creative. After sampling all of the available options in the neighborhood, I've become somewhat of a regular here.
However, they do not make any effort to source sustainably, so I have stopped going as often as I used to.
Almost no seating. operates primarily as takeout. staff may learn your face quickly and start throwing in extras on the house within a few visits.
It's still pretty good the issue is the price has seemingly doubled.
Fast and casual sushi places with tons of options. Prices are good and so is the food. Restaurant is also very small, but it seems like most people order to go.
Not much place to sit, but very tasty takeout food at a reasonable price.
Always a fresh lunch or dinner, fast service, friendly servers, always fun. Can be a 20 minute wait, and worth it.
Best sushi and super reasonable. No frills. But wait is always imminent.
Excellent Japanese sushi place with reasonable prices. Sushi is very fresh.
Our favorite place to eat in Oakland. Worth the wait each time, so fresh and delicious. Seating is limited and crowded but creates an intimate dining experence we actually love. We often get the sashimi set, which comes with rice and one miso soup. mmmmmm.
Fresh food, great value. Excellently prepared. Can't find better for the cost. There is no sushi place in the Bay that balances quality and value like Geta. I'm talking super fresh ingredients and a specials menu that'll distract you from any traditional sushi dish; go ahead be adventurous. Plus they have REAL crab!
I get to eat here a lot since I work close by. I have to say the service is always fantastic and they keep the place clean regularly. Pricing is reasonable and they serve generous portions.
Super cute, almost hole in the wall restaurant. Top quality sushi with a lot of sashimi options I've never seen before!
They sure can serve up some great grub in that small space.
The best sushi I've ever had. Can be crowded so get there early or late to avoid the lunch rush.
Geta regular here. Used to love them and would rave about their fish quality. But today I had a sad experience. I ordered a fairly large order, almost all of which had tuna (spicy tuna, nigiri, maki, etc). I took it home and saw that the tuna was much lighter with a different texture. It tasted off. I called them and they said it was an upgrade because they ran out of the normal. I then drove back to Geta to show them how strange it looked. I told them I order every week and his was in fact way different. They refused to hear me out and just kept talking over me saying sorry, sarcastically. What a bummer, Geta. I know you have lines down the block but please treat a longtime customer with a bit of care.
I you like authentic Japanese food, high quality ingredients and Japanese beer, this is the place to go.
My Japanese mother approves of this place and so does my wallet. If you can get in at 5pm you avoid the hour wait.
Cute little and authentic place. There was so much to choose from and everything was delicious. Prices were also very reasonable. It seems busy, but we were seated very quickly.
This is my favorite sushi restaurant in Oakland, and yes I'm a sushi snob. Although not even close to the best of the sushi out there, it's decent and most importantly the only place where I don't feel like I'm getting ripped off in the bay area. I eat here once a week, Call ahead and order take out to avoid the long lines.
The smallest most unassuming little place. The sushi is great, fresh, with real fish of the day specials based on what's at the wholesale sushi grade fish market. Super friendly and swift, don't be discouraged if you have to wait for a seat, they move fast. Surprises me over & over with the consistently great sushi.
I've gone to many many Japanese restaurants in the bay area, and this is the one I keep coming back to. I love that I can enjoy all the amazingly fresh nigiri along with some alcoholic beverages and the bill comes out to $50-$60 for two. You can't beat that for the quality. Anywhere else we'd spend $130.
I leaved on Ruby St for 5 years, and loved this place. I only went there a few times because I'm not super crazy about seafood, but this place was amazing. I see why the lines are always out the door.
Very tasty genuine Japanese food! The service is prompt, too. If you don't get there at opening time, you will have to wait for a table!
Yes there's usually a wait, but if you come early (as in before they open) you should be able to score a seat. The place is tiny, but it's ok. You'll soon forget once you order!!
Sushi is fresh, kitchen food is delicious, and service is quick.
Oh and did I mention you can feast on sushi and not break your wallet?! Yes, I'm still amazed at that part.
This has definitely become my favorite sushi place in the bay area.
Great sushi restaurant. Trust me if you know anything about sushi you will know they have fishes you don't even know that it's available in the bay area.
Great food, reasonable pricing, very small. Call ahead for take away and/or enjoy a stroll on Piedmont Ave while you wait for your order. Cute stores.
Fresh. Small place. Fast turnover. Little plates of yummyness.
This is the best lil sushi joint in the East Bay. The selection of out of the norm fish. The lack of seating shows this is some bodies passion.
Great food, friendly service, and super prices! Our favorite for sushi take-out.
Cheap, delicious, fresh and fast--Highly recommend this little sushi restaurant. It's always busy, so takes a while to get a seat with a big group.
Delicious, fresh sushi at pretty amazing prices and hence, usually runs a bit of a wait. Go have a quick cocktail at Kronnerburger while you're waiting, or, better yet, order to-go and shorten the line for the rest of us! ;)
Great hole in the wall. The hours are short and the space is small, so prepare to have to wait to be seated. You can also order out and just pick up if you don't want to wait.
My go-to place for sushi in the east bay! Quality sushi, affordable and fast service! Small location so there's usually a wait, but I recommend going. I wish I lived closer so I could frequent more often. Great place if you're in the mood for sushi on a budget (or not!)
Ghetto Sushi? They don't answer their phone and have no website.
Fresh, delicious and inexpensive sushi. Very busy; expect to wait 20-30 minutes to be seated.
This place has fantastic cost-performance. If anything the nigiri is so big that each piece needs to be split into two, but I'm not complaining!
Fast, casual, and inexpensive sushi. Get there early as it's always packed, and space is limited.
Price is cheap when compared to other restaurants. Taste is decent for the price.
Barely any seating (unique). They take their food seriously and prices are great.
Worst tasting Chinese made sushi. It's cheap but not tasty. I rather buy sushi from whole food market or some Japanese market. Fake Yelp reviews
