Good solid Sushi. Their tempora is light and not greasy and their portion size is large but not to the point of overkill. We also liked the teriyaki chicken. All in all it was a good experience, but remember it's a small place and the wait can be long.

I have been here for sushi which is also quite good, but this review is about the ramen or soba they serve on Sundays starting at noon. I ordered the Tonkatsu Shoyu double soup noodles which were out of this world! The broth is to die for!! Someone said they start cooking it at 1am to have it ready at noon, and if that is the case you can definitely taste it in the broth! It is rich in flavor beyond any soup I have ever tried, yet leaves you feeling nothing but full and satisfied after! There s no heavy I ate too much feeling or heartburn after from this rich soup! It s just all warming the heart goodness as noodle soup should be! Absolutely spectacular! A delight for any soup afficianado!

The reviews I've read about this place were pretty good. Inexpensive good sushi = SCORE in my book. Unfortunately, it only lived up to the inexpensive part. Don't get me wrong, the sushi wasn't bad. It just wasn't as good as I thought it would be. We ordered a boat load of stuffs and the bill was pretty reasonable, so I can't complain there, but the sushi/shashimi was about what I would expect to received based on the price.

We started off with toro. Toro...mmmm...[drool], but I've had better...much better. In fact, the toro here wasn't THAT soft and buttery. It was more flavorful, but more in a ribeye way and not the kobe beef that you expect from toro and above grades. I've had toro that melts in your mouth...mmmmm..[drool]. We also tried the salmon cheeks. It was good. It was the first time I tried fish cheeks so I don't have anything to compare it to, but it was good. Also had the uni. I thought it was ok. It wasn't funky like some uni can be, but it wasn't really soft either. It was a little firmer than I was expecting, so I don't know if it wasn't served during its prime (which contradicts the lack of funky smells) or if uni I've had in the past was just mushy. In terms of rolls, we had the lion king, spicy tuna, dragon and rainbow. None were very outstanding.

On other visits I've had the chicken karaage. If you like twice and crispy fried chicken pieces then this is the item for you. It's like tonkatsu on steroids and very filling.

Overall, the food was decent but not wow. For the price, it was pretty good. If it was priced similarly to other sushi joints, it would only get 3 stars

My favorite sushi place at this price point. It's best to come in with a table of 2-4 because the place is small and tables are smaller. They also do fantastic carryout for people with more guests.

Hole in the wall? Yes, indeed, BUT, food and service is top notch! Very consistent in quality, freshness, taste and service. Go and get your name on the list EARLY, otherwise plan for a long wait. Against all possible odds, I'll chose Geta anytime over any other choices.

Come Sunday (only) for the ramen and dipping noodle! So yummy. The ramen base broth is so rich in flavor and the noodles firm and chewy. Best ramen in the bay!

wowwww how have i not known about this place for so long????? i m really upset about that lol

what an incredible find. the sushi here is so high quality and SO CHEAP sOo AFFORDABLE!!! not a huge secret though, this place is always packed and there s always a wait, but it s worth it. the fish is all precut so u may or may not think that s a good thing but the food comes out really fast.

Best place for cheap sushi. No frills and no fuss - just good food.

UPDATE: came here again recently, there was a long line, but after finishing our meal, the server gave us a box of almond Pocky!!! Such a nice gesture, and I would give more than 5 stars if I could.

I was very excited for this place based on all the reviews. My partner and I went here on a busy night but got squeezed in at the bar (with no wait) because it was only two of us.

Service was good. Our server was quick to take our order and answer our questions, but a little slow to refill drinks. Food was mediocre. I had a spicy pork bento dish, while my partner had some sushi. The food wasn't bad, but it wasn't great. We were both a little disappointed, only because our expectations were so high.

Maybe we chose the wrong dishes, but we'd probably try another place before going back.

If it were a a pub, it'd be a dive. Locales' favorite spot. My favorite go-to sushi place. Though, it has limited hours.

Good quality, cheap (even though I only recently discovered the significant price increase), but the price tag is still lower than most Japanese food places.

I'd bring my pre-teen nephews who love "Japanese" food. They would only order tempura bento and skip the miso and salad

I've had many of their menu items. Food is tasty. From udon, soba, sushi, nigiri, maki, sashimi, salads, and bento (I think they call it "entree").

Sushi. Love that they have special items on the chalk board. I always like trying them whenever I come in for a seating. Normally, I would have amaebi and uni. They are well served at decent quality even at a geta's price tag.

It can be crowded during lunch and dinner rush. Omg, especially during school terms, college students be flocking here! Well, I think it's appropriate since it's affordable.

I wouldn't recommend it for large group (6+) due to limited seating. It's been there since forever, so the locales would understand the situation. Most would order a takeout to skip the line. And, somehow they manage to keep the food coming out for the inhouse patrons without waiting extra long.

Also, I recently discovered their burrito sold at Berkeley Bowl. I was so excited to try it. I liked the sriracha added.

So here's the deal this place is a little hole in the wall, but don't let it you off. I love eating at, the sushi is always fresh and amazing. There's a few tables there but this place is really designed for takeout. And the prices $$$ are reasonable.

Tasty sushi at this tiny restaurant. You know it's going to be good when you see a line of people patiently waiting outside. We were very satisfied. Freshest seafood we've found in the area.

One of the more affordable places on Piedmont Ave so there's always a long line here. Very small place with only a few seats so best to order to go or expect a long wait. Portions are not very big but are decent considering the price.

Perfect for some cheap take-out sushi. It won't rock your world but it's decent and you can't beat the price. Don't bother trying to eat in the restaurant. It's the size of a postage stamp and there's always a line.

This tiny little place is great for takeout. The menu has a great collection of sushi, sashimi, teriyaki, donburi, tempura etc as well as daily specials. The price and the quality are excellent.

A cozy sushi place in town. Space is limited. Good sushi and lovely menu on the wall! Portion is a bit smaller than what I have had at other places but overall it's good for the price. Fish was fresh. Gets really packed during dinner so come a bit earlier to get seated right away.

For the Bay Area, probably the cheapest sushi you'll find, but don't let the prices fool you--the fish is fresh and high quality! It offers a fairly standard selection of sushi, but if you're used to Bay Area prices, it can almost feel like an all-you-can-eat place! We definitely enjoyed our fill.

The space itself is almost the dictionary definition of hole-in-the-wall; it can fit fewer than 20 people, so there can definitely be a wait for seats inside. I'd order to go, expect the wait, or hope you're lucky with your timing.

Geta is my go to spot. Food is delicious, and always ready in 15 minutes, no matter the time of day. The staff is friendly and fast. It is great for take out, and dine in (if you can find a table, very limited).

I can't believe that girl server turned me away THIRTY MINUTES before closing. "Sorry we're closed" really? Because your door and online say 9. it was for just me, one roll. But no, instead of making potentially an extra $50 in tips on a $5 roll, you now get a bad review on every site. Poor service. Seriously. Who does that?

This place has the best beef teriyaki I've ever had. The entree is pretty big and it comes with miso soup, side salad, a healthy portion of hot rice, and a small portion of these cold noodles that are freaking addicting. The beef is also delicious. It's tender and grilled medium rare to medium, which is amazing since it doesn't make it dry. And the sauce. I have no clue what teriyaki sauce they use but it is insanely yummy. It's not cloyingly sweet like most teriyaki sauces; it is perfectly balanced and it goes so well with the beef and the steaming rice. I wake up craving this shiz.

The sushi is good too. The fried California roll is made with real crab, which is unique and really good. The fish is fresh and they have a wide verity of rolls. There's an extra sushi/appetizer menu on the wall if you want more specialty rolls.

The restaurant is pretty small and it is definitely an eat and get out kind of place. This isn't a problem because you get your food quickly once you sit down. If you're waiting for a table, you'll find yourself mentally screaming at the diners to hurry up because the food inside smells so good.

Another best off Piedmont ave.

Found this place during college yrs and their sushi/foods still exceeds my appetite

Just come hungry, prepare to be in queue and be hungrier but leave satisfied!!

Not a bad place to grab some cheap sushi. Be prepared to wait as this place is popular. I have never had a chance to eat inside, normally I just grab the food to go. If your looking for good sushi at a great price then look no further.

When I want sushi, I'm thinking of this kind of place. Hole in the wall restaurant, check; fresh raw fish and delicious cooked fare as well, check; great prices, check. The only problem is that this place is super small and also super busy. So it's not exactly the place for a relaxing sit down dinner and tends to feel a bit rushed. I've heard take out is the way to go, and that's probably how I'll experience this place next. If you're in the area and craving some great sushi, don't pass this place up ( even if you are call in your order and while waiting in line) .

The best sushi place in the entire Bay. The fish is incredible and well priced. The miso soup is delicious and full of umami. I've never had a bad or even mediocre experience here. They are always GREAT!

Awesome quality for unbeatable prices I haven't had a bad experience yet.
The place is small and seating extremely limited, but it has a nice feel to it. I'll do take out if it is too packed.

The service and sushi were terrible. The woman who took my order was very unpleasant and didn't even greet me. My rolls were also very sloppy in presentation and the rice to protein ratio was unacceptable. I used to frequent this place years ago and am sad to say their quality has diminished. I will not be going back. If you do dine here, you should eat in so you are able to examine your food before consumption. I do not recommend take out.

A small restaurant that serves fantastic sushi. The quality of their sashimi is top notch, with their sashimi combo being great value. They serve more than just your standard sushi menu of surrounding restaurants. Definitely recommend getting there early as there is often a long wait due to how small the restaurant is. Geta is fantastic.
