Stayed here a few years ago and when we revisited in March time, it felt like it needed some upkeep. The rooms are quite spartan and there are a few niggly things that made the room seem less attractive - like an ugly ironing board left out (with nowhere to hide it away). Few people I know ever need an ironing board - feels to me like they could leave them out of the rooms and say they re available on request, rather than make the room uglier. Our room lacked convenient power sockets which meant I had to put the kettle on the tiny bedside cabinet to use it (it s cable was too short to plug it into the one behind the cabinet on which it was stored!) The place could do with a bit of a refurb, as it seems tired now.

Room was clean, bed comfy. We stayed in one of the cheaper rooms so I imagine the better rooms are bigger. No complaints though.

Had breakfast once which was average. Option of cooked or continental but for the price you may as well go for the cooked. The bar was well stocked as well with some local beers from Marlow.

Car park is large and free. Garden out back would be great in warmer weather. The countryside Hurley's set in is beautiful and, in my opinion, makes the hotel.

I'd recommend using a car here as it's in the middle of nowhere. Henley and Oxford are easy to get to for day trips.

Came here for lunch and thought the garden was lovely. Ordered food from there summer menu which was a barbecue. Food took 55minutes to come and was really terrible. For 15 pounds a main we expected decent and generous food. I had a measly bit of chicken with uncooked skin and two soggy tiny piles of warm, wilted salad on the side. My wife s salmon was just as bad. Such a shame as it s a lovely setting

Mega cozy inn / Inn
The place was established in the 12th century, and exudes history.
Located a few minutes walk from the Thames, where it is most beautiful and cozy!

Good food but very shabby service. Scruffy garden with dirty tables not cleared or cleaned. Staff poorly coordinated with no one seeming to know where they're supposed to be. Shame, because the kitchen deserves better front of house.

Went here for a wedding in the Tithed Barn. They messed up the room booking sent us to the wrong room. Then they tried to charge twice for the room. No receipts given. Had the disabled room which was nice but the curtain/blinds were terrible there was no soap in the bathroom to wash our hands. Breakfast was a buffet which was average. Also at the evening reception they forgot to bring out 2 special cakes. NOT A VERY PROFESSIONAL VENUE.

Lovely room and location let down by un-professional and rude staff, terrible food and shocking food hygiene standards. We went here for a nice weekend away as a couple, we got the full package including champagne and dinner. At the dinner More

A really lively olde worlde (1200c.) building with a peaceful and pleasant large garden. A tasteful food and drinks serving portal in the garden making it very convenient to order light refreshments. Excellent venue.

Visited the Olde Bell after a lovely walk along the river.
The only beer we had a choice of was Theakstons Best or IPA in a bar-top Keg. I ordered a theakstons, but sadly my choice was then limited to lager or IPA since the theakstons and Guinness had run out.
The staff member behind the bar was terrible - He struggled to understand the concept of a tab, and i have honestly never seen anyone take so much time contemplating how to pour a glass of wine or beer, let alone work the till, which was obviously black magic to him.

Oh, and the bottom bun of the burger was absolutely dripping with grease - So much so it stuck to my fingers and I ended up using a knife and fork (not easy when having to rest the plate on your lap due to table size)
"Excuse me is anyone serving, we've been waiting here for 10 minutes!" comes a cry from the bar area as we're eating. Oh dear.
The table opposite from us had ordered coffee, but had no milk with it as they had no milk jugs (?!)
The best part of the entire visit was the mens washroom. Very neat and tidy. Unfortunately, the same could not be said for the ladies room, which I was reliably informed by my better half had one toilet blocked and the other filthy.
There appeared during our visit, someone who looked remarkably like a surveyor with camera and clipboard. Good. Hopefully we might get some decent management and turn this dive into a good eatery again.
Overall VERY unimpressed. I will give it another chance in 12 months time, maybe.

Stayed 2 nights, the room was exactly how I imagine the bedrooms in a convent would be; cramped, bland and pokey featuring an uncomfortable Ikea-esque bed. The only redeeming feature was the fantastic gardens in the grounds, but get in quick - in was clear these hadn't been properly tended in around a year so chances are it'll be wilderness soon.

Location and the garden are great but terribly understaffed and disorganized.
We sat there for 40 minutes struggling to make an order while the menus were still
not printedd out after 12. The food arrived quickly after the order, but was presented terribly and as a cherry on the cake I got served with a last night colesaw, sitting on my plate looking "tired"
Guys, you can do better than that!..

After waiting on 3 occasions for the phone to be answered I was assured the garden bbq would be operational after 12.30 on this particular day the 4th July(my birthday), 5 of us arrived at 2o/clock but no bbq was available.Reception apologised saying the wedding taking place had taken priority. We were pointed in the direction of the bar to order food...oh dear a single member of staff was trying to cope with food orders and drinks. He openly admitted that he could not cope but I still managed to place a make do food order, far from the promised cavery originally planned. After a considerable wait our food arrived in various stages .Is that everthing I was asked..you guessed it one meal was forgotten.

What has happened to this once very good pub/hotel?I will keep very clear in future. Peter Thomas

Reallt friendly staff all very helpful
Could have perhaps had a headboard on our bed in the Tythe Barn as lost pilliws in the night .We found the green light above the bed disturbing and also the light from the outside crept over the top of the curtains which also made the room very bright during the night but saying this we would stay there again .thankyou

Overpriced for what they served for dinner. The service took 2 hours (!) for a single diner with no explanation as to what the problem was. I had planned for a stroll around the village but didn't have time. Stayed overnight in a huge room that was so minimalist it didn't have a wardrobe. Instead there were 4 coathangers strategically placed on what looked like a picture rail. There was 1 chair and a rocking chair, which seemed a bit odd. A fan was provided because of the hot weather. Thank goodness breakfast was self service, though I had to ask for coffee, which wasn't too bad for Full English, but the Continental breakfast looked a bit spartan. There was fruit, yoghurt, a selection of pastries, and the smallest portions of plastic wrapped cheese I've seen (no ham or Bratwurst or similar)

The place has a very unique charm as it's a 12th century pub with a number of buildings adjacent which hold the hotel rooms. The rooms are very large and have all the essentials, tv kettle etc but the rooms do lack charm (a few picture frames and other furniture etc would really help otherwise it's a big empty room!)
Was slightly put off on arrival by reception staff member who looked more miserable than the drizzle outside.

We arrived at 6pm on a Wednesday and the bar was extremely small. There was no Ale on tap or in bottles for that matter which for an English 12th century pub was astounding so had to drink Guinness. We had a Bar meal but the bar lady didn't know how to use the till for ordering food so we had to wait for restaurant staff to help. On top of that there were key elements of the dish missing from that described on the menu. It took 40 minutes to be served, by that time we just wanted to leave. Had pudding and coffees back on our Canal barge.

Excellent hotel for the price. I wish there was even more information about the history of the hotel. Food is a bit steep for the quality when compared to top restaurants in the area. learned more reading the Wikipedia page. There are nice walks to the river nearby and plenty to do a few minutes drive away.

Spacious rooms and friendly staff, this was a comfortable place to stay. Breakfast was included in the rate and was freshly cooked and tasty. If we had one complaint it would be that the drinks prices were on the high side.

Old coaching inn with historic, but stylish features. Does have a lot of rooms outside in pretty humdrum blocks. Big difference between best and worst rooms, so ask to change if not happy... Good fresh breakfast

I've both dined at The Olde Bell with family and have had the pleasure of photographing two weddings there over the past few years and each time I visit, the service, staff and food get better and better. There is beautiful space outdoors for summer and cosy room inside for winter and the wedding venue space is exceptional, run by the most polite and efficient staff.

This used to be one of our favorites, but this trip was disappointing.

Staff were friendly and polite, although disorganised, slow & inexperienced. 3 people really should be able to serve 2x pints + 1 bottle of wine and a few glasses of water in under 5 minutes.

Cannot fault the quality of the restaurant food, The steak & chips were spot on, although felt the menu was a bit limited.

Our waiter had problems using the 'waiters friend' corkscrew, we had to ask for steak knives and extra plates for the sharing starter, things that really should have been second nature for a seasoned server.

There is a lot of black surfaces throughout the hotel, including handrails, floors and tables and they all felt slightly sticky.

The floorboards in our room were so creaky that if you sneezed in bed, the glasses on a table the other side of the room rattled and getting out of bed to go to the toilet in the middle of the night made so much noise it woke the other partner up.

The shower temperature had a mind of its own, the head was too heavy for the bracket and kept falling down.

The Buffet Breakfast was ordinary, nothing specifically wrong, just not really worthy of somewhere that used to known for great food.

Checkout was interesting, trying to hear the receptionist over the cleaner vacuuming around our feet while trying to pay the bill.

There were a couple of other niggly points, but I realised that I was actively looking for faults, so unfair to comment on those.

Normally, one or two annoying things wouldnt be enough for me to comment, and other than the very squeaky floorboards, there wasnt a a single thing to really complain about. We were really looking forward to the visit and a combination of all these things one after another, probably not helped by a large private event during our stay, made it a disappointing visit.

Like I said, it WAS a favourite. In order for us to rebook in the future, the owners will need to make some changes, we will book a room thats not in the main building, and the online reviews improve.

18th February 2018 - Room 2 - Very nice room but when you look closely it was very grotty, actually here's some picture of the shower which I did not use as so dirty, especially the shower floor (pictures do not do it justice!). Does not live up to their statement of "will not disappoint"..

Absolutely splendid - the day was about Hurley Village which was OSS secret radio station during WW2 - exhibits of the equipment & linking with other like villages around England - ending in unveiling of a blue plaque on Manor House Entrance.
The pub & community welcomed all of the visitors & the Olde Bell's hospitality with food & drinks was par excellence. Well done all residents of village a really good day out.

We got married here and had the most wonderful autumn wedding. There are two venues you can hire, the Tithe Barn and the Malthouse. We hired the Malthouse as you can hire out the whole building and gardens giving you a very private wedding.

We've also stayed at the pub a number of times since and always had a wonderful experience. The rooms are very minimal scandi style design with big beds and roll top baths. The restaurant serves very good a la carte seasonal menus, using locally sourced food - they grow a lot of their veg in the gardens. The pub itself is a lovely old Tudor style building with dark beams and comfy chairs by the fireplace. There are also lots of good walks to the river Thames and it's a good base for visiting Marlow and Oxford - though you need a car to get there.

The staff are always very friendly and helpful, if you book online you can get some good deals too.
