Lots of fresh produce vendors, meat, flowers, handmade items, etc. Sunday is the best day to go
One of my favorite places on the Hill. Love the variety of foods and people watch.
Love to come to Eastern Market on weekends. A lot of food vendors, tons of restaurants to choose from. Just a great vibe!
What a precious spot! Love flee market, amazing selection of food. Must see place on Capitol Hill.
Such a diverse selection of goods to choose from! I bought an excellent pair of pants for climbing that were well priced and beautifully made. In addition my dad had an excellent blueberry lemonade. If you need furniture, homemade decor, clothes, linen, or veggies and fruits, this is the place to go. PS. there is a donut place
It's a nice outdoor market, but, as is normal with these, the prices are high. It's worth taking a look at, and the ambiance is nice.
This is the rummage sale to hit up on the weekends. Good farmer's market through the week with an inside that's always got really fresh fruit, vegetables, meat, flowers, and a bakery. On the weekends the farmer's market kicks into high gear and there are all kinds of arts and crafts. You never know what you're going to get, always a good time and easy to get to, right by the metro.
The best time to visit is weekends. Mayne vendors sell hand made items. During the week is mostly food market.
This place is so cool! Clean, well organized, full of talented merchants and farmers. Fun live music too! Lots of dogs to pet and plenty of yummy samples to taste.
I went there for breakfast and it was clean, customer service was fantastic also the buttermilk pancakes and bacon was delicious.
Beautiful farmer's market with fresh food and more. It's always a fantastic experience at Eastern Market
Compared to when we went a few months ago there are a lot fewer stalls in January. There were still a few farmers selling apples, pears, etc and a good group of artists selling their wares. But the number of prepared food vendors seemed less. Still a nice winter spot considering the indoor market is heated and has public bathrooms. We saw a ton of young families hanging out.
Historic Market that has been restored to its original paint color and interior except for following a few codes for safety and such. Good food places and a great cheese place. Crazy crowded on the weekends , but comfortable during the weekdays.
Interesting place to grab lunch or shop for fresh meats and cheeses. We came a weekend and walked the whole arts and crafts area which was awesome. Got some great handmade and one of a kind jewelry.
Eastern Market Lunch Counter has fantastic breakfast/brunch. Super casual. The line looks intimidating but moves pretty quickly. Arts, vendors, farmers market outside on Sat & Sun.
It was awesome. There are arts and craft type things and food galore. Some of the best we've had this trip.
Really original and non generic. Different shops to normal. A lot of character
Love the outside vendors. Don't like to see pets especially dogs near the food tables not cool very nasty. Find some area were owners can place pets for an short time while shopping or bring someone to hold them away from food tables. I will be back for breakfast go early line long.
Great place, interesting food. The adjacent Gelateria is amazing.
Iconic thing to do in DC on the weekends. Numerous vendors selling a range of items from arts and crafts, to clothes, produce and prepared food. If you are looking to buy local, this is a great place to start! Even if you just want to admire the art, it is nice to walk around with a friend and a good place to bring visiting people for a little taste of DC
Wide selection of delicious, fresh, and local foods. Friendly vendors who interact well and often give samples. Great mix of indoor and outdoor shopping accessibility. Can be pricey, but you re paying for the experience and quality, and it s worth it. Overall, an awesome place.
This is a decent outdoor/indoor market with crafts and wares or "flea" atmosphere on the weekends. Locals brag that it's the best in the U.S., but like most DC boasts it's not true.
The butcher is incredible. Maybe the best in DC. We've tried a variety of sausages (all in-house made), double cut pork chops and other meats and have never been disappointed. Nice selection of produce fresh herbs and flowers, especially on the weekends summer-autumn outdoors.
On the weekend there are a lot of terrific craftspeople, artists, jewelry-makers, potters and photographers. There are also antique and vintage vendors.
However, seems over the last 5 or 6 years the market has changed. It's becoming less and less a marketplace for antiques, artists and crafters and more for vendors selling mass produced stuff they've purchased in bulk over the internet.
Maybe that's ok? I don't know but it seems that the uniqueness of Eastern Market is slipping away when I can easily find the same mass produced hats, purses, jewelry, scarves, t-shirts and Turkish towels on the internet.
One of my favorites, hands down. Independent small businesses constant quality.
It's great to visit the market on the weekend and eat at one of the food trucks. My favorite is by far the Crepes. The offer Breakfast or Lunch fillings
Still one of my favorite places in DC. Be sure to get a crab cake sammie at Market Lunch.
Beautiful building and market. The smell of fresh produce and baked goods from the bakery was vibrant and enticing. The fresh seafood and meats made for dazzling displays. Definitely would come back again
Visited Grub Rockstar's booth. Their food was fingerlicking. Ribs, mac and cheese, chicken, etc. Southern comfort.
Food options are fresh and locally sourced. And I love all the art available!
Wish we had known about this amazing place before so close to going home! Easy walking distance from our rental, open all week, fabulous food choices: fresh vegetables, meats and seafood and custom sausages and breads and homemade pastas to die for! Tonight we'll have chocolate ravioli with vanilla ice cream!
Really nice market with lots of indoor and outdoor vendors selling a variety of food and material items. Everyone was so friendly and prices were good especially for the quality of everything. I liked that there were ample places to sit as well. Most vendors seemed to take credit cards, but cash was much quicker in many circumstances and I would recommend bringing some!
This is such a fun place. The highlight of this place, obviously, is the eastern market where you have the most amazing breakfast and brunch options. On Saturday and Sunday there is a market place outside the eastern market where you will find vendors from all over DC; one can buy anything from fresh veggies, fruits, home cooked food, street food, jewelry, paintings, to art pieces, etc. Alongside, you will find several eateries in the neighbourhood. Parking can be a bit difficult, therefore, commuting using the metro is the best option. Also, if you live in SW DC, you can take the free shuttle that goes from l'enfant plaza to the eastern market and beyond.
Great location for breakfast or lunch. The pancakes are the best.
Fun morning weekend activity. Go early when it's not too hot. Although inside the food hall has a/c.
Since gentrification, one of the few places left to get fresh cut meats and poultry and seafood. For singles and small families, saves you from having to buy those supermarket packages. Finding parking is difficult and will become more so after all of the new businesses are open but it is near a Metro stop if you are not buying much.
An authentic DC experience, come here to meet friendly and interesting local craftsmen and growers. A beautiful historic site that is still thriving! I found great produce and beautiful jewelry
The seafood department is very great. seafood crab meat and the neck bones in a turkey neck smoke is great
It's so eclectic and love the food and the variety of individually designed items.
Eastern Market has always been my favorite spot in DC. Grocery, flee market, people watch.
Great Place To Get Real Good Fresh Meat, Seafood, and Veggies
Neat place with lots of history and a good variety of vendors.
You can get everything you need. Meat can be cut to your preference. There's a place to even have breakfast and lunch. Bakery needs are great and seafood is wonderful. They aim to please
The best place for fresh foods in DC! Also great craft vendors. On a weekend, you can spend a whole day economically and not be bored.
Beautifully priced goods and wares and great food and fruit options
This is my Sunday go to... Always a good vibe, always something to spend your money on & always popping.. Even in the fall/winter months. I mean of COURSE business slows down a bit but you'll be missing out on sales!
There are a bunch of shops here offering fresh fish, meats, cheeses, pastas, baked goods, and even a few items that are ready to eat. It's a fun place to check out. However, I would recommend coming on weekends when the outdoor market is also open. There's a lot more to due/peruse then.
Good to visit for fresh produce and organic stuff, but don't go there on Fridays, not much is going on. Weekends are the best time to visit.
The amount of food you can get with $20 is amazing. I call it the $20 Eastern Market challenge! (Be sure to visit the Pavilion).
Fantastic local market with every fresh meat and produce you can imagine, plus a whole host of artisan stands outdoors on weekends. Close to Eastern Market and Capital Hill metro stops.
Lots of tempting treats here. It was great to be able to chat with the man packaging your meat. He was great. And the guy that runs the lunch counter was very friendly and very helpful in steering me to right meal. My crab cake was flavorable.
Interesting place to walk around, maybe take in a refreshing lime, mint, ginger slushie. But disappointing if you're looking for local artists and artisans. More like a pricey flea market. (NOTE: The fellow in my photo has brought very different items handmade in Tibet. Support artists here and around the world.) Eastern market has lost it's appeal.
Love this place for it's variety. The cheese section has great cheeses from New York
Usually a good selection out goods available. Easy to pop offer and get a few fresh things and move on. Concurrent to the Eastern Market metro stop.
Must visit. The freshest produce, meat, and fish. Also go for the jewelry, art, vintage clothes, Old Good Things and other home decor.
Nice spot to find one of kind things. Bought myself a blue scarf since it was windy the day that I went. I like to think that it a better way to support small business and families who make a living by selling unique items. Most of the vendors that I encountered were super nice and informative. I also recommend the burritos by the DC park and rec center. The brothers there travel far from Baltimore to make a living and the food is banging. My only recommendation is to bring cash to avoid extra fees, in general.
Poultry, beef, thick sliced bacon, thick bacon without the skin, and pork belly. They have a turkey stand that sells Turkey Bacon and all sorts of turkey sausage. Couscous, bean soups, and fresh fish. Fresh cut flowers and the breakfast stand is awesome. Great blueberry pancakes. You will not be disappointed.
This is not a good place to go based on the advertisements. It's basically a couple of sandwich spots and some meat markets. I was lead to believe it was going to be akin to the European markets where there would be many places to eat and shop for food stuffs. It was very disappointing to the point where we had gone there specifically and it took my family with a 5 year old less than a few months minutes to walk from end to end and leave. The meat looked good, and it was clean, but we didn't go there to buy a sandwich, half a dozen dumplings, dessert and a nice cut of beef for later... Cause those are the only options.
Saturday mornings there is the open market, good selection of fruits and vegetables as well as several kinds of fresh cooked food. The meat market is spectacular and there is quite a lot of open air browsing to do (and things to buy!)
I loved the food from Spicy Water. The owner was very friendly and everything was fresh. Our food was made to order and it was worth the wait. I highly recommend it.
The service was good in the food was very much looking.
Locals know to come here for their meats, cheeses, and fresh pastas. In from out of town and have a kitchen? The EM vendors are great, have been here for years and will add to your 'local' experience of DC. Try fresh pastas (including the dessert chocolate ravioli) from the EM pasta counter; excellent cheese counter - taste before you buy; and great butcher and veggie counter.
So many great local spots to shop and get amazing food!
Love Eastern Market: Market Lunch (great for breakfast) and good variety of food and non-food items.
Nice crowd...nice variety of shops, eateries and whatnots!
They have fresh meats and vegetables on the inside and outside vendors on Saturdays
I LOVE THIS PLACE! The amount of local farmers has dwindled down but you can still find some excellent things. As much as I dislike traveling to DC this place I do not mind traveling for.
That was my first time there everyone that was there had a mask on they also did the 6ft distance other than that everything was nice the prices is a bit High
I had breakfast here last Wednesday and it was really good. I ordered blueberry pancakes, bacon, and potatoes. Everything was fresh and made from scratch. I would definitely recommend this place!
Beautiful area great place to shop, live and Eastern Market Metro is the bonus.
So its not as large as Philadelphia's Reading Market or Cleveland's West Side Market, but there's still one row of vendors with interesting fish and meat selections. Outside the Farmer's Market is in full swing on weekends I'm told. There are two lunch spots inside are are reasonably priced to the rest of the country and cheap by DC standards.
Beautiful place! We really enjoyed the atmosphere and the overall experience. You can find fresh veggies, fruits, fish, poultry, beef, pork, beef... They also have flowers, dessert, breakfast, lunch, crafts, art, clothes... Everybody is so nice, the architecture it s spectacular! We went this Sunday and the weather was perfect!
I'd come every weekend if I could. I love this place!
I belong to the produce Plus program, which allows me to purchase produce. I pick up my vauchers for $10.00, at a time in different places around the city twice a week. Eastern Market is one of the places I go to for a few reasons. One it is indoors with air conditioning, also the vendors there not only have great produce but a variety of other products, the produce Plus program is there Sat. and Sun, an I am a disabled veteran who uses public transportation and it is easy access to Metro Rail service.
Always one of my favorite things to do during the summer
Salthead city. Drug addicted people harassing the patrons passing by asking for food and money. Also, rude when told no!
Great vendors, gorgeous building, and they often hold a great mix of family friendly and 21+ events.
It has good bread. On of the stands has one of the best selections of cheese. A bit on the expensive side, but some things are worth it. Other foods not so much. A good place to go visit. It would be better during the summer time.
So much to look at . Service was great. The restroom is very clean.
Great place to get your meats a n veggies...an also other eating items as well
I love the international flare that goes on at this Market
