This is a decent outdoor/indoor market with crafts and wares or "flea" atmosphere on the weekends. Locals brag that it's the best in the U.S., but like most DC boasts it's not true.

The butcher is incredible. Maybe the best in DC. We've tried a variety of sausages (all in-house made), double cut pork chops and other meats and have never been disappointed. Nice selection of produce fresh herbs and flowers, especially on the weekends summer-autumn outdoors.

On the weekend there are a lot of terrific craftspeople, artists, jewelry-makers, potters and photographers. There are also antique and vintage vendors.

However, seems over the last 5 or 6 years the market has changed. It's becoming less and less a marketplace for antiques, artists and crafters and more for vendors selling mass produced stuff they've purchased in bulk over the internet.

Maybe that's ok? I don't know but it seems that the uniqueness of Eastern Market is slipping away when I can easily find the same mass produced hats, purses, jewelry, scarves, t-shirts and Turkish towels on the internet.
