As you enter from the main road, you make a drive down a long, straight road. Along both sides are sugar cane growing, as I would assume it had always been. Perfect price - $0.00. You get to make your own tour. When you first step into the distillery, you are greeted with the rich aroma of molasses which is heavy in the air. There is a small building with many different cultural items/displays about life on the island that is a rich, hidden gem. I would have never expected to find anything such as this at a distillery. Also, this facility is going above and beyond in the attempt to be as environmentally responsible. Re-use of CO2, waste water reclamation.
I found this distillery experience on line and the reviews were all great. Janelle was our guide and bartender for the tastings and the reviews were spot on. Such a different experience being able to walk through the working distillery. The tasting at the end was fabulous and we were surprised how many varieties of rum we got to taste. The price is not much for the tasting ($10 US). For an extra amount Janelle gave us a tour and it was well worth it. Thank you Janelle!!!!
brillint place to visit... you can walk round the workings of the distillery without having a guide so at your own pace.... then a rum tasting sessiom with the expert Leia, very knowledgable and clearly loves what she does.... Highly recommended...
Found this place by accident and was pleasantly surprised. The tour of the distillery is a bit strange as we were the only people there walking through a working distillery. It's well signposted with some informative information so all good. Did the rum tasting for US$10 and very much worth it given the explanation by the lovely member of staff who was serving us. Very informative and really enjoyed it.
We initially came to the Foursquare to collect a free rum bottle prize. Upon arrival we took a self guided tour of the facility and its small museums ... very nice, including a rum tasting.
The distillery was relatively quiet and we definitely enjoyed the tour. Very informative and the price is right! Free!
It is a bit strange you drive there (we have fared) through the courtyard entrance without barriers etc and then suddenly stands in the parking lot of a still. Without doorman or the same one can there on the grounds unhindered us everything. Even in the bottling plant. Very interesting. Everything for free if you go through there alone. What we thought was a pity that there seems to be not very much invested (outside) (playground, museum) and thus a lot in the breaks. The rum tasting was great you could try 6 round places to try and paid 10 US dollars. Something was also told about every rum. There is a small shop (corner) where you can buy cheap (cheaper than anywhere else) the rum. If you want to go there by taxi it costs around 50 US dollars (back and forth in incl. Wait) from Brigdetown.
Amazing experience - this is a real factory, owned by a inspirational family. If your Rum drinker, this tour is a must. Be sure to do the rum tasting after!
You can make your own tour. Take all the time you want.
At first sort of deserted, but once we met Wayne in the tasting room, everything was amazing! He is laid back, welcoming and very knowledgeable. He learned it all from his Dad who also works at the distillery. Incredible visit.
Tasting: $5 USD for 4 rums; $10USD for approx 15 rums. Well worth it
We had a wonderful visit at the distillery. The tasting was outstanding, professional and informative. Better than Mount Gay. Definitely a worth to visit!
What a great experience!! This is a very laid back experience. You can either take this tour at your own pace or you can pay an additional $20 US or $40 Barbadian dollars for a guided tour, which is what we did. He explained EVERYTHING to us step by step, giving us the history of the location. It's a former sugar cane factory which was built by slaves back in the 1600's. With some of the original structures still standing today!! It's a family run operation that takes family very seriously. They have a children's playground where kids can go while their parents do the run tasting... I would highly recommend going here.
A visit to the Copper Still Bar located on the grounds of Four Square Rum Distillery is a must for visitors to the island. Visitors are treated to a selection of rum, informed of the production and aging process and advised on mixes and which are designed to be drunk unadulterated. A very informative presentation. Great value for money.
A chance Visit and spent an hour looking around the distillery followed by a visit to the bar for some very nice rum tasters.Free to wander around the factory well worth the time
This distillery is WELL worth a visit. Although it s not in Bridgetown, it is only a short and picturesque drive away from the city. An Imposing entrance and drive way. Free parking.
Unlike the Mt. Gay facility in Bridgetown, which only has a short tour of one room with pictures on the wall, a 7 minute film and a tasting session, all of which you pay for! The Foursquare tour is Free! Yes.
Here you get to walk around all the distillery and the stills, vats, process machines etc., which you can Not do at Mt. Gay.
Then tasting in a lovely old bar afterwards (yes you pay for the drinks, but the price is right and at $24 Barbados for whole a bottle of Rum, way cheaper than the Mt. Gay tour cost) is a great experience.
Here you get to walk around all the distillery and the stills, vats, process machines etc., which you can Not do at Mt. Gay.
The distillery grounds are amazing, large, well maintained. A museum and venues for concerts, weddings etc. It does look a bit past it s best, but they have so much potential here for any one who is interested.
A Really Good Place To Visit and Enjoy.
They dropped by accident at the rum-making enterprise, and did not regret it. We were surprised that the entrance to the territory was not guarded. A purely symbolic 50 cm fence with an open wicket. There is no booth with an elderly aunt, no brave guards, no revolving turnstiles, in general, people come into our garden. We went in. We walked through the territory, looked into a small museum and workshops for distillation, bottling and storage of products. Examined the exposition in the open air. The tasting room was not missed either. As a result, we got a lot of positive emotions, especially since the whole thing is free, and no one limited photography and video filming. By the way, you can smell rum of various varieties there from specially installed 2-liter containers for free, but you can taste it, only for money).
Went to a small event here, t'was lovely as always. #dodibarbados #topshelfbartending #madeformen #madeformedia
Was blown away with this tour today, it was incredible. After experiencing this tour and the history of this distillery I am so happy I cancelled the mount gay one. Our tour guide was brilliant how such a young man obtained so much knowledge and facts about the history of four square is incredible. I hope people take the time out to check this tour out! Highly recommend, we got to try over 6 different rums (all included in the tour). Also received a free bottle of 14 year old rum for answering a question right . Will definitely go again 5 stars wish I could of rated higher.
Great Rum and great guides!
Dario showed us around and he was really knowledgeable and welcoming.
He explained everything from A to Z and finished it off with a perfect selection of rums to taste.
And I can't forget to mention his mother, Debra, who was lovely.
You can't miss this multi-sensory experience!
Great day out! Fascinating. Rum tasting hosted by the charming and knowledgeable Deborah, not to be missed.
Monday to Friday you can take a self-guided, free tour of distillery and small museum. Then you can have a tasting for a small fee at the Copper Still Bar which is in a beautifully restored historic house. The people who do the tastings tell you the history of the distillery, rum business on Barbados and rums you taste. They are very knowledgeable. The gift shop has some terrific values on souvenirs and of course, their rum. This distillery makes rum for many labels and we think it's the best rum on the island. We especially like Old Brigand for sn every day sipping rum or to make rum punch. But they have many rums of varying alcohol levels that are drlicious. You also learn how to make true rum punch and taste a delicious premix for rum punch called Billy D's. This distillery is a must do on Barbados. Enjoy the self-guided tour, tasting, and walk the beautiful grounds.
Absolute gem of a place. Feels really unspoilt by tourism and off the beaten track. You can walk at your own pace which I've never seen at a distillery before and we've been to a few! Deborah who gave us the tasting was such a lovely lady who provided lots of informative information and made it even more special. We've just bought lots of doorly's rum at the airport. Thanks for a great afternoon!!
Amazing visit to this island gem!!! Took a tour of the facility, free of charge and as we were about to start a employee took it upon himself to guide us around and tell us all about the different processes for the rum. When the tour was finished we went in to the gift shop/tasting bar where for 10$ US we were able to taste 6 different delicious rums. Then we sat around with Deborah and her family where she introduced us to her father Billy D and enjoyed some of his famous rum punch. Thank you so much for a wonderful memory and we will be back to see you next year!!!
This was a very interesting experience. To start off, visiting the distillery and grounds is completely free including the onsite parking. The place kind of seemed deserted when we arrived; the only people that we saw were ourselves the the occasionally grounds keeper. The tour around the factory is self guided and at your own pace. They have signs and pictures that give you information as you walk through. It didn't seem like much was going on in the factory, but we read that they are actually producing rum there. At the end of the self guided tour you end up at the tasting bar and sales shop. At the tasting bar you are able to taste test 6 rums of your choice all for 10 US Dollars/ 20 Barbadian Dollars. The bar tender was very friendly and knowledgeable, and they did accept credit card for payment. Overall a nice little excursion for the day.
Free self tours available. Historic information are posted on the walls. Free to walk and take your time as you take a walk into Barbados' history. Clean bathroom facilities. Awesome history of sugar industry and rum. Not my choice of drink, but it was interesting and informative. And the smell of rum Lol. I thought I was getting drunk just from the smell. Good to see on display an old cash register, building tools, utensils that my great grandmother probably used, the juking board and tub, thank God for washing machines.
Very informative tour! The best rum definitely comes from the Caribbean.
After you visit the distillery, you need to visit Copper Still Bar....run by Leah, he sister & mom! Extremely awesome people! Great service, super kniwlesgeable! Best rum tasting ever! Foursquare has very good quality rums! When you visit if you only have time for 1 distillery, forget Mount gay and visit Four Square Distillery for truly good local rum!
A great self tour which is free of charge. Go to the Heritage Shop for rum tasting which is very informative, thanks to Debbie. We got the bus from Oistins and caught a lift back with Debbie's Dad, William... great place to go for a morning or afternoon. You can purchase in the shop or at the airport on way home. Best rum in the world..
The first memory that comes to my mind when thinking about our stay. Easy and informative self guided tour, friendly and knowledgeable barkeep and first class rum.
The tasting room is graced with mellow winds and tranquility in the center of the operation. The 2004 will remain my favorite rum for years to come.
Self guided tour and cheap CHEAP rum in the gift shop. They say no photos but it's pretty laid back.
They just won Best Rum Producer at the International Wine & Spirits Competition (IWSC). Incredible!!!
Beautiful place. Free & completely open to the public to tour. This distillery has nothing to hide. Just follow the yellow footprints. You CAN wear flip flops.
Love that they ve worked to stay green and reduce the distilleries carbon footprint. Everything is recycled.
They even bottle their own water.
The grounds, distillery, and tasting room are beautiful. There s so much history here! AMAZING!
Do miss picking up rare bottles that you won t be able to find anywhere else.
A++++++
More that 5 Stars!!!!
Love this place, well kept grounds and peaceful surroundings
I was pleasantly surprised upon arrival at Foursquare because I wasn't expecting multiple sites on the FREE, unguided tour. There was a museum, an atrium type area with beautiful artwork, the actual Distillery, an area where you can pick up maps and such, a park for kids (we saw the sign, we didn't venture there) and beautifully manicured areas in between where you can take pictures. Not to mention the bar, where you can purchase gift packs as well as do a tasting of rums for 10$BBD. It was enjoyable and totally worth it!
