Very peaceful, quiet, and spectacular scenery. There's lots to do! Fishing, swimming, playground, canoe and kayak rentals, and grills for cooking at shelters. There's a small putput golf course also. They also have multiple water pumps. Lots of exploring to do. There's access to the beach, but I'm not certain if its open. They have a small store but I recommend you take everything you need with you, it is slightly over priced, vacation spots normally are(duh). They have an rv park with hookups and a campground. Lots to do! Fun! Beautiful! Something for the entire family.

This place is awesome! The people are amazing and so authentic, it's like stepping back in time seeing their wardrobes and talking to them. They are so informative in their descriptions of what and how people lived in this community and their daily activities. The Falconer was really interesting as well. The kids got to churn butter from cream and make little dolls from scraps of material. Really fun visit for young and old!

Today I visited the original site of Boone s 1775 establishment of his fortification at Boonesborough. The archeology was completed in 2014, so this is a fresh site for history lovers to visit and view. The site is on a pretty knoll overlooking the Kentucky River. It s only a three minute drive from the reconstructed fort, which I saw, but didn t tour. The original site was what I wanted to see!

Gave it a 4, simply because it's an older campground but well kept. Good place for children with a playground, a creek and lots of grass. Dog friendly but no dog park. Many sites get muddy if there is a lot of rain. Make sure you check the length of the site because most are very short but you can park your tow vehicle on the grass.

I need to update this review. A gravel or concrete plant on the water shares a boundary with the campground. Usually daytime noise isn't obtrusive but sometimes they work a second shift which means bright lights and lots of noise
If possible, stay near the entrance of the park or the playground.

Camp host were wonderful getting us a last minute spot. Only negative I have is the big diesel pickups in and out all night...loud and fast. Would stay there again. Great price for a full hook up site.

About the best best historical Fort, with numerous outbuildings a fort should have. Little museum on iron & blacksmith. Very educational. Weaving, yarn, dying, & soup making. Fantastic gift shop of handmade items!

I m not sure this is considered camping though. I ve never seen a campground so crowded, they really pack them in there. Was given a spot, tried it, and the next trailer and picnic table was only 5.5 feet away. Not a lot of trees either. It must just be city people that come here to rough it .
We went back to get a refund and leave as we have never seen anything like it, but of course no refunds. They got 2 stars instead of one because they let us camp in the Empty field next door to get away from the noise and crowds. Honestly, not a good spot if you really want to camp, unwind, and get to nature. Very disappointed, but pleasant staff.

It is a Leased Park for Camping and or Swimming is all. It Claims to be the Site for Daniel Boones Fort Boonesborough. A Total Lie. As is The Civil War Fort at Boonesborough. Another Tall Tail.
The New Damn being Built now is 100 yards down River from The original Fort Boonesborough on Private Property. The Old Fort Site still Shows all the Posts, Gates , Fire Pits , middons , some stone work, latrines and burial sites and grave yard. None can be explored further due to Greed and Park Humiliation. Same As No Swimming in the River when you can Pay to get in a Pee Pool. Thanks

This is such a magnificent Fort. I took lots of pics here. Was really nice walking back in his time seeing the tools, crafts and ways of life in Daniels time. Viewing all the artifacts was so nice. Loved this place so much.

I would love to recommend anyone to visit Daniel Boone's first and only fort. This place has so much history, it's well worth the visit. If you get time please visit 'his' final resting place. The information on the grave's, especially the Date's. Well it's worth a visit!

After traveling from Alabama to Ohio to New York back to Ohio and then heading back to Alabama, my girls and I looked for a place to have lunch. Got off an exit and seen a sign. I could not ask for a more peaceful and beautiful place to stop for a picnic. As much as we travel state and national parks, this place will definitely be on our "to visit and explore" list. Thank you!

Visited a couple friends who were staying here, so I wasn't the one who was at the camp overnight. But the location and amenities were great. One of the better Camp stores I've seen in awhile, and they have a pretty nice putt putt course. And the camp people were putting on Sunday events over the weekend, scavenger hunt paper airplane contest, and a few other things. Not sure if this is a regular thing or it was a special weekend or what. But either way that is rather nice for the staff to do

Awesome state park. From the campground to the historical displays, the park is well laid out and maintained. The fort is very interesting and handicapped accessible. Well worth a weekend of exploring.

Fort Boonesborough State Park was a well-managed and engaging historical interpretation of Fort Boonesborough. Live interpreters explained the history and evolution of their respective trades with a focus on the late 18th century. Plenty of space to walk around on your own leisure time or maintain a set schedule as preferred and needed. Detailed historic replications of buildings, materials, trades, and styles will bring viewers of all ages into a fascinating place in Kentucky, Appalachian, and American history.

Really cool, they had really knowledgeable people working who were able to articulate how it was to live and survive on the frontier in the late 1700's. Definitely a piece of American history worth seeing if your ever in kentucky.

This is an old park that used to rely on a swimming beach. Now that the river is closed for swimming due to ecoli the beach shower house is mostly abandoned.... the restrooms creepy. Otherwise the park has a nice campground, especially the primitive tent camp area. The pool is nice for the kids. The fort is cool. Picnic areas and room for gatherings and car shows can't be beat. An OK boat ramp and the lock to fish below. In general the whole place is low key and relaxing. Being the original site of Fort Boonsboro is really historic. The old fort was near the boat ramp. Just imagine the Indians trying to tunnel under it.

Needs serious upkeep, the whole shoreline by the dam is always a mess. I went all summer and it just looks like it flooded in the spring and nobody bothered to try to make it look nice.

This review is in relation to the campground only. My wife and I recently stayed a single night (site 60)
Facilities were nice and staff was friendly. Plenty of outdoor activities at the campground such as playground and basketball courts. Reason for low review is based solely on location. Close proximity to a major highway and an active gravel pit made for a very loud night. Would probably be better if staying on the other side of the park, but where we were was very loud all night long due to highway noise and heavy industrial equipment operating all night in the background.

On your website it said Thurs were busiest day and that you closed at 5pm. We drove over 275 miles on a Thurs March 15th along with many other cars in parking lot and we were VERY up set. So was everyone else. We were SO dang disappointed....... please fix this problem. Errrrrrr

This is the worst park I have ever been too! We came in a day early around 9pm at night and within 15 minutes people are running around telling to get in our car because there is a "dangerous man" in the woods acrossed from our campsite!! Packed up two kids and sure enough here come the 5 police cars to arrest said crazy person! It was about 1 am before things settled down. Next morning rude extremely rude individual hassles us about coming in early..........Don't bother camping here especially at $35/night

First the good. This is a well kept park. The sites are not tightly packed together. The ground crews are friendly and helpful. The bath house we used was clean and good repair. The adjacent swimming pool is great! Truly supersized, but it has a separate daily fee to use. The camp store is well stocked for emergency camping needs.

The bad: The Allen Company has land adjacent to the state park. This company turns large rocks into gravel. So from 7AM to 6PM, M-F, all you hear is the grinding of rocks and the sounds of heavy equipment. So much for the peaceful sounds of nature, we were very disappointed by this.

That wonderful bath house I spoke of earlier has a caveat, it seems the hot water heaters are on timers, don't expect a hot shower at 7AM. Then there's the check in person. Being first timers to the park, we asked for directions to our site. The person handed us a campground map and told us the site number, but couldn't be bothered to actually mark the site on the map or draw the driving path out. You almost need a magnifying glass to read the site numbers on the map

While this park has a lot going for it, for us, the close proximity to The Allen Company, means we will not be coming back unless it is just a short weekend stay.

Being a fan of living history, I was thrilled to live near the fort founded by Daniel Boone. It was one of our first explorations when we moved to KY.

The buildings are fun to explore, and the people portraying life are interesting to talk to. The video in the first building, though obviously old, is fun to watch and learn about Daniel Boone.

At the original fort, which is just a stone foundation, my kids would spend hours playing. The playground, though fun, was not the main attraction.

Whether you want to picnic and play, or get immersed in history, Fort Boonesborough is a great place to go.

We had a great time.. I would have given more stars but they are not pet friendly.. If you are traveling with pets and it's a warm day.. you can't just leave your pets in the car..it's shame they don't allow pets.. As pet owners, we clean up after our pets better than most adults clean up after themselves or kids..

Beautiful place for short hiking,
Also nice view of dam water in near park proximity,
I would love to come again soon.

While we enjoy camping and the campground is clean and the staff friendly, we were disappointed to find out after our arrival that the majority of the amenities listed in the campground information are extra charges (definitely not included): the pool, golf, firewood, and Wifi. Buying two bundles of wood daily and paying per person fees for the pool and or golf course is not family vacation friendly.
