Just like the review of a year ago. This place is filthy! Trash everywhere. Constant highway noise. Loud people. Kentucky should be embarrassed.
Very pretty Kentucky State Park campground. The people who work there are very nice and helpful. We enjoyed our stay for the night. I wanted to visit the fort but it is closed Tuesday through Thursday and we were there Tues.
There is some type of large outdoor processing plant close by which at times makes a lot of noise with big trucks. Pretty quiet overnight though.
Our site was not level and the water hookup was over 100 foot away from the site.
Boonesborough has been one of our favorite places for 20 years. However, every trip this year we have had obnoxious neighbors blasting radios or TV's outdoors. This week we are behind a very large group who have explicit music turned up incredibly loud that is extremely inappropriate for the trick or treaters.
They are talking over each other loudly due to talking over the music and drinking heavily only making them more obnoxious. After politely saying something to the group, the noise levels have significantly elevated and we continue to watch the park police drive around and do nothing. It is quite frustrating having "security" that allows the behavior. I understand 11 is quiet time but this behavior should not be allowed anytime of day. This "party" should have been held at a family home.
Very unsatisfied with the campground at Fort Boonesborough. I would give them zero stars if i could. The park would not honor senior discount, when sign posted in black on white said 10% senior discount. Had to pay $24 for primitive camping when sign posted lists $17. They charge a $6 transaction fee, for what!? We paid for a walk in tent camping spot. No water, no electrical at sight. Port-a-potties are your option unless you want to walk quite a distance to the unsanitary shower house. Roads are poor and lacking. Litter is everywhere. The bath house has no working working electrical outlets and is not stocked with toliet paper. Bath house is extremely dirty, I was terrified to touch anything in the shower stall. The campground is located directly off a highway at the bottom of a steep grade. Diesel semis were jack braking all day and night. The adjacent major construction site started up at 5am with rock crushing and banging of metal bins and didnt stop till 5pm. Not a very quite and peaceful stay. I have camped all over the country and I will say, this is one of the worst campgrounds I've ever stayed at. Very disappointing. I would not recommend.
Pretty views of the river. The campground had some road noise. There is a large field that's good for frisbee or other field sports. A great place if you are interested in KY history.
Although we showed up when it was closed it is said to show how the people in Appalachia used to live in the 1700 s. It also has people dress up in clothes used by the people during that time and the best part is, it is ridiculously affordable. I would definitely stop by again
I loved seeing the different cabins from different periods. The different jobs in other cabins. The block houses that were used for meeting halls or where people went when they were being attacked. I just loved seeing the history
Good stop. Have period actors during summer. Interesting for look at life in 1800s.
First of all they have never asked us the day of Halloween down there that we need 2 green tags to get out and back in, you use to be able to get in before a certain time and then they would close the gates at a certain time. Jack is rude and needs to check himself.
Fun place to visit. See first hand how things were done in the pioneer days.
I'm from Ohio and we go to state parks all the time, but Kentucky has the best state parks by far! Love this park and campground! We went during the Halloween fest and there were tons activities and events. Our campsite was 147 and it worked out perfect having the camper parked at the top, it made the lower level our own secluded site hidden in the back looking over the Kentucky river. There was a small hill but it was worth it! Highly recommend camping here!
Enjoyed our visit to the fort would recommend this to all at some point or another staff was great very well done !!!!
Wish something could be done with the building there. When i was a kid I remember how nice things were here. So not the story now
We actually went to go hiking but the trails were only 0.4 miles long. Loads of wildflowers surrounded the small creek that the trail cuts across. Watch out for those ticks. My dog was covered in them. The only issue with the trails were that they are very close to the road so even though you can't see the cars you can hear them which takes away from the "being in nature" feel. The trails were kept clean of litter and are very easy. My 3 year old handled the whole thing with no issue.
Other than the baby hiking trails, you have the fort to look at (which was neat.) and loads of open space for the kiddos to run and play. 2 playgrounds and plenty of grills and pavilions to hang around. There is also the river which is just past the playgrounds where you can take your boats or just fish off the beach. I saw signs for camping and RV parking though we didn't have time for that. All in all its a good place for families to hang out.
The re-created fort is pretty cool. It's a good place to go camping with your RV
I work there and I think it's a good place.everyone compliments bathrooms are clean showers clean.i would give it a4.5 no problem
Boonsbough Halloween Fest is amazing. Have been coming for 23 years and it never disappoints! Great park, great playground, rec center, bath houses, and it's rich in history! Love this place.
The fort was very interesting. Costumed staff were friendly and truly love what they are doing. Fort is well maintained. Closes at 5:00, gift shop at 4:30.
We stayed at the RV park which very well kept and the bathrooms were nice and clean. We were able to walk over to the replica fort, which was amazing and well worth the time. You can see how they made candles, textiles, nails, etc. back in Daniel Boones day. We were afraid the rain would ruin our day, but it kept most people away and we had a great time! Highly recommend.
Family oriented, beautiful and relaxing. Great place for family reunion, birthday party..must get there early for picnic tables or shelter area. Fun, fun, fun!
Nice and quiet this time of year. Always a nice place to go.
Thank you Kentucky I'm visiting from Texas is was an awesome experience.
Great place to share history with the family. Great place for family camping. But book your site early. Large park does fill up!
The staff were very friendly. Even though we were there a few days before they officially opened for the year we were able to talk with a park ranger and go over the history of the area. He was exceptionally informative. We were not able to go through the fort, but it is quite impressive from the outside.
Besides there being a significant amount of garbage, it's actually a beautiful drive and spot.
The river and beach used to attract 1000s of people every year . Now the beach is in poor condition. The water is in such poor quality that they will not allow you in. The locks are closed at the dams so boat traviel isvery limited.
We had a great 4 day visit and took in a lot of local sights
Highly educational, very good experience. The people are very knowledgeable and friendly. The price is right for the experience.
Clean shower. Quite week night stop. Overall a nice campground with some shaded sites and pull through spots .
An amazing trip back in time! See how Daniel Boone and the people in his community lived day to day.
Great 5-mile walk, on trails/campground/beach/around park.
Not crowded.
Well it's nothing like it use to be. I was disappointed when I took my grandkids down their
Love taking the kids to the campgrounds. This time of year all the lights and decorations for Halloween. They love it and my husband and I do too.
This is a very clean and welcoming State Park nestled along th e Kentucky River minutes away from Richmond and Winchester Kentucky. Lots of foliage to shade yourself on a hot sunny day. Historically speaking feet away where Daniel Boone and the first pioneers to this area settled and yards away from where John Hunt Morgan and his men crossed over into Clark County under the Watchful eyes of the Union Soldiers manning a post over looking this section of river. Enjoy if you should ever find yourself in the area. Norman & Karen Rechel
Loved this place since I moved to Richmond in 1992, I have lived in Ohio for 20+ years and try to visit there when I come home for a visit.
Felt like a waste of money. Neat looking, but not alot to look at.
I love this place. It's just comfortable. Places to picnic, hike, sit in the shade, and be surrounded by a little history.
My wife's great grandfather was William Moore! What an honor to let her see this! Wonderful park. We will be back!
Great experience at the fort. The park was nice. Pool was over rated. It was a junior Olympic wading pool.
It is very beautiful and to spend with family and friends or even with the church is spectacular
Too crowded,,,golf carts going fast and careless, bathhouse nasty .sites need better mataince, gravel when it's wet and rainy, not a mud hole
Great place to take the family.. kids enjoyed looking at all the Daniel Boone memorabilia and the cabins.
Was clean, well maintained, and had a wonderful Easter with my family at the park.
The campground had decent tree cover, clean bathrooms, and was decorated amazing for Halloween.
It was a nice day and a nice experience that was almost ruined by the women working the entrance. BCTC in Lexington offers hospitality courses for a reasonable price. They would certainly benefit.
Very spacious and comfortable with very great staff
good att service. NO RECYCLING! overall, the place was nice. bathhouse clean, great fort to explore and experience. open all year!
We enjoyed visiting this historical place. Clean with camping located next to the park.
Clean! Huge Pool! Close to lots of shopping. One of my favorite campgrounds.
Amazing time experiencing one of Kentucky s first staging points. Awesome environment and a must for history lovers.
Not a lot to this KY state park but what it does have is just fine.
Fort Boonesborough State Park is a hidden gem not too far outside of Lexington. The campground grounds are kept beautiful and are very clean. There is camp store that has everything a camper could need. The fort is nice and open W-Sun during season but the real highlight of my visit was touring the old lock keepers house, located near the dam-- lock 10, I believe. I did see signs for a couple hiking trails but didn't have time to check those out. The river was also really high due to recent rains so I didn't get a chance to see the beach or boat launch. Hope to revisit soon with family so they can experience this great little park too!
It was a good visit. It felt like time-travel through the doors of the fort as everything inside was made to look like Daniel-Boone Era. They can use some more artifacts and historical installations though.
Interesting place, learned a lot about the history of settlers back when
This park is neat. I felt like I was walking around in a village in The Witcher, which is awesome. Even our toddler had fun walking around and looking into all of the different houses. If you re interested in history and are a fan of Daniel Boone, then you will want to stop here! On a side note: If you can avoid bringing a stroller, do so. It s very hard to maneuver in and out of the cabins, and the terrain is a bit rough if you don t have a jogger.
Had a great time visiting with my family. This was my first trip, so I really want sure what to expect. Loved seeing the axe throwing, the metal forge, and the candle making. Loved watching the handmade lathe in action. Truly amazing to see history in person like that. Definitely worth the drive. Even got some great sweets in the shop at the end of our trip.
