Fast security control, good connection to the center. It has wifi, but it does not work. It lacks some kind of mini market inside the boarding area or somewhere to buy something to eat other than the typical airport sandwiches. It has a smoking area, for those who are interested. It is usually fine, it has many rest areas.
Departure was catastrophic with long waiting times and overwhelmed employees. After the arrival it was no better, the luggage return took forever even though there was nothing going on at the airport. Who can fly to Hanover?
I fly regularly from Hamburg and accordingly often arrive here and we have never had any real difficulties or problems. 1 star deduction because of the expensive parking spaces, which is common at airports, but in the end is simply extremely outrageously high.
However, snacks and coffee have actually become affordable in recent years and even "cheap" for an airport, especially if you buy coffee or breakfast at the pick-up area below.

When we arrived we had to wait an hour for our luggage. The expected time on the baggage claim was when the baggage arrived and whenever you thought the time was up, the waiting time was extended by 15 minutes.
The plane was delayed on our return flight to Munich. It's not that bad in itself, it should only be 45 minutes. When our plane arrived in Hamburg, the other passengers got out and we were finally allowed to board it was an hour past. And then came the greatest cheek: the plane has been in Hamburg for an hour and only now is the old luggage from the outbound flight and our luggage loaded. I am still on the plane now and wait until it starts, 45 minutes have already become 1.5 hours and that is only because of the poor organization here at the airport. The pilot also said that the earlier delay is due to Hamburg Airport because the staff is understaffed and everything takes longer.
Conclusion: here at the airport we saved at the wrong ends. If airplanes are late because there are too few staff, then I would worry. That really doesn't speak for the airport here in Hamburg. Next time I might prefer to take the train, because in the end I'm just as fast.

Please tell the airport management that dublin is NOT part of the UK and has not been for over 104 YEARS. I refer to the CoVid-19 self isolating forms announcements at the gate. Also telling us at the gate that Hamburg airport security only allow ONE carry on bag is way too little notice as we have already passed thru security. Otherwise well done and keep safe.
Technology apparently outdated or not serviced often enough. Departure delayed by an hour because the technology of the airport shuttle failed. Apparently overwhelmed with regular maintenance.

Waited 55min for my luggage after a 1 hour Lufthansa flight FRA - HAM. Third time that it took so long. Hamburg Airport seems to have an organizational problem here. Staff at security has been unnecessarily rude to my family and me. Very different from Munich airport, for example, where all seems smoother, faster and friendlier.
I like to fly from Hamburg and can not really agree with some predecessor reviews. That it can take a bit longer at the security check is common and can not be avoided. However, the majority of the security staff is very friendly and the airport offers many destinations and airlines. That makes him a great second goal in the world for Hamburg.

Maundy Thursday 2018 - underground how long 5 cm of fresh snow and its consequences paralyzed the HH airport. Instead of reaching our connecting flight in Frankfurt (120 minutes split time) to San Francisco, we waited a whopping 2 hours for the aircraft to be de-iced and were then, after considerable delays, led via Munich to California. Respect for the serving "ghosts" of Lufthansa, who saved what could be saved - shame on the organizers of Hamburg Airport, who apparently do not know any weather reports.

Hamburg Airport is a nice modern airport with short distances. So far I have only had good experiences with the service there. The security checks are very fast. The organization at check-in is usually dependent on the airline.

The airport is not adequately organized in a city like Hamburg. Rush times are reacted too inflexibly. Apparently there is no responsible person on site. The employees present are overwhelmed. Central location, modern building, Edeka on site. There is a public connection to the S Bahn.
You can have a quick beer before I fly to Mallorca. The central location of the airport makes it possible to fly to Ballermann at the weekend.
maybe I'll not only fly to the Ballermann but also try all inclusive to Turkey.
I like Hamburg Airport for its small size and casualness, direct access to the underground, the many good memories I have there, and the Emirates Lounge.
Sub-standard and to the point of embarrassment, hence only two stars, are:
a) How slow and crowded luggage claim is
b) How unfriendly security staff is, including at the priority lane, which hardly is a priority lane. As always there are of course exceptions and I feel sorry for the nice people and their efforts. But I must say that last time I came through in late December 2018 as well as other times, the security check had the charm of rude middle-eastern bouncers in front of a late night entertainment venue. It was hard to believe this is Germany!
Half of the shops are still open or have different opening times than usual, but the airport is slowly feeling with people again
Good regional airport with frequent train connections to Hamburg. The long term parking facilities are located quite a drive from the airport and can be hard to find. Do check their website and consider paying for parking online.

Super professional handling of all the usual airport services by always friendly staff in a very modern airport building. There is ample parking, but a day ticket costs between 24 and 30. But the connection to the public transport by bus and S-Bahn is great and very modern. One is in less than 30 minutes in the city center of Hamburg.
The baggage claim is permanently overloaded, you have to wait extremely long after the flight - that's a cheek. Already on three different occasions over 1 hour, so no accident, but not enough staff, saved at the expense of the passengers.

For a few visits one of the very comfortable airports in terms of intuitiveness and not very busy. There are several options for getting to the airport in Hamburg.
S-Bahn, taxi, bus reaching the terminal. The small queue will always go to safety control but it goes quickly. On free Wi-Fi, you can go ahead with yourself. It's easy to hit the right gate (Gate) because the airport is not that big. The information is in the middle of the terminal. Everyone will find something for themselves. Palarnie as everywhere, not too big but there are.

Fly regularly and HAM is generally one of the better airports I know. Not too big, manageable, modern, walking distances between gates is still ok, security feeling too. Number of shops is enough for me, number of seats at the gates just enough, toilets could be 2-3 more. We usually wait 10-15 minutes on luggage until luggage runs over the luggage conveyor. S-Bahn connection to under the terminal. Sometimes too few drop-off stops for cars.
I have passed through Hamburg Airport around 10 times. Waiting lines to check in, were often long (around an hour). Waiting lines for the security check were long as well (~30 min), and I have been treated quite rudely by the staff a number of times when I had a question. There are barely any charge points for your phone.
Flying in Covid times is not easy, especially when there are problems with the flight. There are e.g. No Lufthansa office at Hamburg Airport, some things are easier to clarify in private, especially if you can guarantee that the Lufthansa service number will let you bob around in the musical queue for 15 minutes before you give up in exasperation. The corona-related downsizing is more likely a clear cut.

I know many airports around the world and Hamburg is one of the more relaxed ones. Not as long distances as e.g. in Munich, Frankfurt, Waschington, L.A., Malle etc. etc.
