Hi there

I am a bit mitigated regarding First Tutors, since I had a dozen requests in a year and only one ended up getting tuition with me.
I was very successful on another website previous years.
So I am questioning the contact system:
* do students understand/have read the rules? They were all asking for a meeting prior to my confirmation and prior to making sure we were good matches. Obviously they didn t want to pay before they knew the tutor was actually the right one for them.
* I suggest a pop up box to come up each time a student requests a tutor, reminding them of the procedure.
* NZD15 just to get the contact details of a tutor you re not sure is going to be your match is a lot of money. I suggest to decrease it to NZD5 to favour the attempt.
* it took me a while to understand the system myself. The boxes with Distance, Price, Subject,.. above availability are very small and I hadn t noticed them. I wonder whether my tuition leads had seen them as we kept asking each other questions. Would be best to place them in the text box, they could be ticked/filled up. Also my tuition leads and I couldn t have the conversation we needed in order to assess we were good matches because of constant censorship from First Tutors. This is totally unacceptable. If the system works well and is valued by clients, there s no need to censor and make it hell to use! To be honest, I am using your system at present because it is free and because I am starting tutoring in Gisborne. I should probably go back to the system I was using previous years in the city. I ve spent a number of hours on your website, in addition to the expectation/energy put into ongoing conversations with students. Another suggestion is to favour meaningful conversation between tutors and students. Why not try and offer a verbal conversation through your website, a Skype conversation type of thing, but without giving away contact details? Oh..before I forget.. I find it quite ridiculous to try and hide contact details at a time where one might be found on social media, on LinkedIn, etc.. Internet is an open platform, and no website can win against that. You re just making things difficult and unpleasant.

On the positive side, I like the Availability graph, very useful. I suppose clients are happy to get copies of degrees etc.. but that never was a worry for me working from the other website.

As a conclusion, I d like you to read all my conversations and you ll see what problems my leads and I had. The current one with Braidie shows she/he wants to meet to check my credentials, and whether I know how to envision her son s tuition. Fair enough. Obviously she/he does not want to pay ahead. Fair enough too I d say!

So please do review your system..such a hassle at present!

I'm sorry to disappoint you like this, but I firmly believe that you deserve to be educated by people who have the experience to really help you.

The website says that
We have spoken with M.M and our understanding is that he is unable to teach because the request was for Y, but it has become apparent that the request should have been for improving skills of X - a subject that M does not teach.

My reply to this website - There are evidence in the emails and many conversations showing that I contacted him to improve X. However the website is always using all the LIES & refusing to refund or provide replacement tutors when the tutor that I paid for is unable to teach because of his lack of experience.

My tutor's reply to me after seeing the website's reply -
I can see that I was incorrect to state that you hired me on the the basis that I would teach you Y. I apologise. I'm looking back over our original messages: you approached on the basis that I would teach you X..I think this is a case of misunderstanding. I believe you should get a refund.
(My tutor has written them on my behalf to request them to either refund or provide replacement. But this website chose to ignore us.)

DO NOT use this website. A money grabbing company with NO ETHICS

Their reply is full of fake and wrong facts!
I request to talk to the top manager of this company. They are VERY GOOD at MESSING UP all the facts and conclude with untrue statement. A company will not succeed by doing lies!
Also, I have contacted them by email many times but they don't respond!

ALERT - Anyone can register an account here and say they can teach, then after you pay they say they cant teach and the website also refuses to refund or help because they say they are not liable for this - This is how this website operate its business when it comes to these issues

So, I rented an instrument and after practicing every day for a few weeks, I decided to look on-line for a teacher. First Tutors offered a choice of several people and I chose one with who I am very happy. The First Tutors web site is well presented and easy to use. It's clear that First Tutors check the qualifications and other background references of the tutors. I have recommended this service to a family member who would like ballet lessons.

I like that there are no ongoing agency fees and that the students are not 'owned' as clients of the agency.

I am a tutor who has used First Tutors. The website is great, a lot of people find me and express interest in having me tutor themselves or their children. I don't have nearly as much traction on other websites I have tried.

One thing that annoys me a little is that we are limited in how much personal information we can share until First Tutors gets their fee for connecting a student to me, but I can understand why this must be done.

FAKE TUTORS

They claim to be tutors but when asked 3 acdemic question on their subject they simply had no clue and attempted to divert the question. I am an academic myself and in searching for a tutor for my friends son I stumbled across this site and would LIKE ALL PEOPLE TO BEWARE!

Good platform, would be better if there was an option to have a trial lesson before confirming. As it stands you must pay their fee before you know whether the tutor is suitable.

I have been using first tutors for some years now and I have been very satisfied with their services as they are well organised and responsive should you have any queries.

The actual service provided here is very good. Don't let the somewhat clunky website put you off. I ended up finding an exceptional tutor via this service, so it was was well worth using and very good value for money, as there was just a one-off charge for engaging the Tutor, and that was it.

The website may be a little bit clunky and buggy for some non-UK users (for instance, the postcode finder, which seems mandatory, did not work very well for New Zealand addresses - it did not allow me to enter a postcode manually).

First Tutors found us an excellent piano teacher within 30 minutes. It was a very quick and easy site to use and I would highly recommend it.

The site works well to act as an intermediary and is popular and when you reach out to an agent they are helpful.

However, the map is very often wrong and this causes problems. If a simple question was asked of the students regarding their postcode of district this would benefit the tutor much more this would allow the tutor to confirm if it is suitable without knowing the address before registration occurs.. The distance tutors choose is very limited either 10km or 20km. Choices in between would help.

We have used two tutors from this site. one came to our home and the other taught our son via the computer. Both were excellent, friendly and professional.

I am a professional qualified music teacher, and I have been with First Tutors for several years. I am very pleased with the numbers of pupils coming through to me via the site. Their one-off charge to new pupils is very reasonable, and there is no charge for teachers. I would recommend them to both teachers and pupils. Most people now look to websites as their first port of call when looking for music lessons, and First Tutors always comes top of a Google search, which is a great advantage.

When I joined First Tutors I had to provide 4 references and qualifications. This is very good because the students can be sure that they get a professional experienced teacher and not just somebody who speaks the language and decided to teach. Because the standards of the site are high, having only on board high standard teachers, the site attracts high standard students too. The students I have from this site are professionals with a goal that they want to achieve and they are focused on their goals. It is really rewarding to teach them and see their progress and commitment to learn.
