I've lived in my building for coming on 3 years now. It used to be owned and operated by a single landlord with a wonderful live-in super. Ever since Fairstead bought the building, it has been an absolute nightmare to live in. First we went without gas for 9 months, and when Fairstead finally paid to fix it, it became invested with cockroaches due to the lengthy and invasive construction. Then, the construction continued as they began to renovate the empty units of a well-deserved mass exodus from the building, and several times the ceiling of our apartment fell in due to negligence in oversight from leaks, bad plumbing jobs, and an overall unresponsiveness to the needs of their tenants. They cut corners in every way. The only time we can get a response from the management company due to unlivable situations is when we threaten to withhold rent or call 311. We've received threatening letters, emails, and phone calls from Fairstead management due to an accounting error on their end, where they didn't take the rent concession IN OUR LEASE out of their records, a mistake on their part that was held above our heads when trying to maintain livable conditions in our home. We've lived with caved-in ceilings, roaches, and a broken washer/dryer and toilet for weeks and months now, even after taking legal action against Fairstead for their unwillingness to provide for their tenants. I will never live in a building owned by Fairstead EVER again, and no one else should either, if they can avoid it. Cannot recommend these leeches of a management company less.

Great management unfortunately the equipment used for WoodLand Crossing Apartments in Richmond Virginia is horrible! I had cottage cheese growing out my bathroom ceiling; plus my children and myself is allergic to mold!

When I moved in Astoria, the washing machine, dishwasher, toilet, and kitchen sink were broken and not working properly. The lights were not working and the appliances were not hooked in properly. When the washing machine broke again and I was informed by the super that it was not fixable, I had emailed management to ask when a new machine can be installed. I received no response and a month later their response was the delay was not their fault. It has been so frustrating getting a response from the management office and trying to communicate with them. I would not recommend working with this management company.

Have not had gas in my apartment since January, which affects not only the stove, but the washer/dryer as well. Fairstead didn't send a construction team to address the issue until July, despite multiple complaints from the entire building. The construction team they hired ended up quitting after tearing open the walls of 3 different rooms in my apartment and leaving the massive holes uncovered for weeks, allowing pests into the apartment.
After 6 years of living in this building, I finally moved out in August, as the unresponsiveness of the management company made it unlivable. On multiple occasions, construction teams or even the property manager himself would show up at my door with zero warning (no email, text, or phone call--legally, 24 hours notice is required), and on a few occasions, they came by surprise at 7:30am.
I am still awaiting the return of my security deposit a full month after I've moved out. 3 weeks ago they claimed that they didn't have a security deposit from me, after which I provided the check receipts as well as the lease, which clearly proved otherwise. They have not replied to my emails and phone calls since then. STAY AWAY FROM THIS MANAGEMENT COMPANY.

Do not live in their buildings or deal with them. Horrible units and horrible management.

I am resident at one of Fairstead Properties and I have renewed my Lease for another 2 years.
I am also aware during this pandemic how Fairstead have tried and maintained my building complex with the amenities that initially attracted me to be a tenant.
Sincerely
Marie P. Harris
