While the exhibits were well put together and the museum had a lot to offer, i would expect the interractive displays to work when you spend $34 per person to get in.
Friendly and helpful employees, helped make this special adventure smooth, stress-free and worth every penny!!
We had so much fun in there. But It was also a lot things to see! You have to spend a full day in there to see everything. I would go in the Pop museum again.
This was a super unique museum that offered different forms of entertainment. It's one of the rare museum experiences where when I left I totally felt like the ticket price was justified! Science Fiction, Fantasy and a Video Game exhibit? Flawless victory in my book!
We had the opportunity to check this place out after hours for a closed event. Awesome exhibits! Enjoyed the Jimi Hendrix, Nirvana, Marvel Superheroes, Horror movie and Sound Lab exhibits.
Steep prices and loud, pervasive music (seriously, they even blast it in the restrooms) await anyone who visits this place - if it didn't have tons and tons of cool sci-fi movie props and awesome horror and fantasy sections, it would have gotten three stars...max. Fortunately, it DOES have those things I just mentioned, so I can recommend it. Sadly, we went there for the Minecraft exhibit, and that was the least impressive part. The description talked about bringing Minecraft into the real world with interactive exhibits for n00bs and l33ts alike (paraphrasing, natch) and I feel like I could have done a much better job designing a Minecraft exhibit to fit those words - the actual exhibit wasn't BAD per se (e.g. it is neat seeing Minecraft mobs IRL at full size, and the interactive crafting table IS kind of cool) but a few gaming terminals, some statues, and a single interactive crafting table with about 20 blocks do not equal "Minecraft IRL". They could have done so much more to bring my friend and my mom (both unfamiliar with Minecraft) into the game world, but on the plus side, neither seemed bored. Also, the interactive crafting table has a volumetric display that is pretty cool IMO. Be advised: 1) there are TWO sci-fi sections, so be sure to seek out both, 2) the museum closes at 5PM, 3) the "sky chapel" is way too grand a name for a big room with a big screen and some seats along the walls, and 4) and you WILL see the Perl Jam exhibit - there is no escape, so best just accept it and move on
What a great time! It's on the spendy side but my friends and I spent five hours here easy, and we even went through pretty fast. It's a fun time if you're looking for something to do in Seattle. I recommend going on the monorail from the mall to the museum.
Beautiful Statue of Chris Cornell and plenty more inside the Museum. It's pricey though so beware of that. Lots of free sculptures and paintings are outside and are unique and pretty. Have a good time
Really cool museum! Their Pearl Jam exhibit is huge, I loved seeing all the old t-shirts and props. My kids loved the sound garden, fantasy, and sci-fi.
This museum is filled with a large range of interactive exhibits that kept us busy for over 3 hours. Definitely worth the price of entry!
Nice experience. Wasn't blown away, but enjoyed it.
Very cool. The Sci-Fi, Fantasy and Horror portions were awesome.
Best museum I have ever been in. Spent over two hours here. That's saying something.
Loved it, the kids had a great time. We ended up buying a season pass. A great community place!
Amazing place had a great policy for familys with special needs kids and great customer service
This is a can't miss opportunity! This museum is an experience, learn, and do trip down memory lane.
Fun and educational. Great little bistro bar area. Coat check for the cold days. I suggest the city pass for great savings on multt tourists spots
Really cool place! Lots of memorabilia from local musicians like Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Jimi Hendrix, etc. But tickets online to save a couple bucks.
Beautiful building and nicely curated exhibits but honestly thought there would be more.
The music half isn't exciting. The best part is the interactive instruments, but the exhibit is way too small and crowded to be much fun. The sci-fi half is worth seeing.
I had a great deal of fun at the Museum of Pop Culture, MoPop the past weekend! MoPop is one of those museums that is located at the Seattle Center which is always a bustling place!
The outside of the museum kind of has a purple glaze to it. You especially notice it if you come in on the monorail since obviously it goes under the museum. I think that feature could very well be a tribute to Jimi Hendrix there.
The museum is huge and seems to be divided into two entertainment mediums there. One side of the museum is mostly devoted to music and musicians and instruments while another part has a large nod to movie genres with literature also inserted in between.
I loved how the exhibits were broken up into genres on the more filmesque side of the place. There was a horror, fantasy and a sci fi exhibit. In addition to that there was a temporary Star Trek exhibit which was the main reason why we came. That was a lot of fun and probably the most entertaining of the exhibits on that side. Second place goes to the horror exhibit. I love how they play infamous horror films in the middle of the room, the display that had a more intellectual approach to various monsters and other kinds of creatures that have become staples in horror was also quite fascinating.I also liked the shadow screen here which distorted your shadow into all kinds of odd shapes.
The music side I enjoyed a great deal as well. I love the huge outpouring of instruments from a sculpture in that section, the Jimi Hendrix and Nirvana exhibits also were informative and nostalgic for me. An homage to my younger years. Aside from that be sure to go to the sound lab up the stairs from the Nirvana display and play various instruments! It's a lot of fun!
The gift shops I loved! I liked the film and tv section gift shops a great deal but I think my favorite one was the music gift shop with vinyl and CD's from all of your favorite grunge bands as well as a very impressive t-shirt selection for the museum itself and various t-shirts by musicians.
While all the displays had significant depth to them in content they still had very broad strokes to the long, rich history to films, tv shows, literature, instruments and music. I was impressed with the depth on the Nirvana exhibit though but that is easier to do since the focus is on a single band rather than the history of an entire medium. Also the Star Trek detail was pretty decent. The timeline display for the movies and tv shows for that exhibit was very useful.
There are smaller areas for other pop mediums at the museum as well like a gamers display where you can play all kinds of games. It is extremely popular there and tough to get a chance to play anything and a sports display, devoted to football with an emphasis on the Seattle Seahawks.
So my friends and I spent about three hours here. There is a Wolfgang Puck restaurant in the museum as well so you can make even longer of a day than we did...and we did not move all that fast either. MoPop is a great place to spend a day at!
Hot Topic: The Museum.
Pretty much exists to house a few original film props
Great place to look at cultural items and art. Has some great history about pop cultural artists.
Despite the name change (used to be EMP museum) this place is still incredibly interesting and distinctive, a definite must visit
The architecture is amazing, some cool exhibits like the famous/historic guitars and props from the movies, but it's quite expensive for the amount of time you need to see it all.
A cool place filled with incredible relics of our current popular culture! The outside is stunning itself but once you enter and begin to explore you'll find an awesome curation of models, costumes, and props used in movies and music throughout our modern age. They are currently separated by genre and displayed in a way that reminds me of a theme park. The lobby is always blasting great music and there are a few interactive exhibits that are great!
If you're sensitive to being scared you may want to avoid the horror section. Not a problem for me though! I went with my daughter and she tried to hit me with a fake corpse hanging from the ceiling. That rascal!
Definitely a must if you're in Seattle and love sci-fi/fantasy/horror, games, or music!!!!
The exhibits were both informative and captivating. The interactive sound booths were fantastic, and now I think I might take up the piano!
Fantastic learning experience! Let's you explore the history of modern fashion in wearable art to computer history and the history of games in the gaming lab! Of course there is always the ever popular Star Wars area and the history of Seattle Music legends, then rock away in the sound booths on instruments and vocals!
Very fun and amazing exhibits! I would definitely visit again and again. I liked how interactive and colorful it was. The only sad thing was that we didn't realize there were more than 3 exhibits because it wasn't clearly posted well enough for us. The labels that told you where to go for more was directly underneath a giant screen with videos playing so we saw the videos and completely overlooked the additional exhibits until 15 minutes before they closed.
Incredible experience! Must see if you are a Star Trek or Bowie fan.
Definitely worth checking out. If you're at all into movies or mucic this is a can't miss. Genuine movie props, no replicas. Instruments and clothing once owned by the likes of Pearl Jam, Nirvana, Jimmy Hendrix, and more. Interactive exhibits and two gift shops makes this a place the whole family will enjoy.
I spent hours in the Marvel, Fantasy, and Sci Fi sections. The indie games zone was fun but a little glitchy. Kids into games could spend hours in there. The sky church where you watch concert footage or music videos is a lively place to sit and be entertained. Cute little coffee shop with lunch and breakfast. Free coat and bag check. Marvel exhibit is extra.
Great place to spend with family and friends ...there's something for EVERYONE to do.
So many cool things to learn about & interactive things
The images posted by lots of people says it all. Really cool to see all the costumes. Definitely worth at least one visit. Probably not worth a second for a lot of people.
What an amazing place!!! Managed to get through almost the whole thing. The content was incredible. Probably my favorite thing I did while visiting. Can't wait to go back!
The Music galleries consume more than half the museum and then there are 4 small galleries for sci-fi, horror, fantasy and indie games. But there are certainly some unique artifacts.
The indie games gallery started to feel a bit like a Nintendo ad, and I wish they had presented it in a way to get more out of it without sitting and playing each game.
Most of the music galleries are focused on a specific band, so if you don't happen to love the 3-4 featured bands, it might be harder to enjoy the music sections of the museum. Since I wasn't excited about any of those artists, the visit left me just a bit disappointed for the price.
Overall it's a good experience, but I felt like it could have been curated in a way to be more appealing to a broader audience.
Really great fantasy, sci-fi and horror movie exhibits, and currently a fantastic exhibit on animator Chuck Jones. Well worth the price of admission.
A cool place to spend the day. Lots of interesting things to see and the staff was friendly and informative. I really enjoyed the horror section and it was a nice bonus that they have an umbrella coat check.
So much fun, so much to see. It was fun for the whole family, including my 3 year old. We loved all of it. I'll definitely come back, because we didn't get to see everything, but it was fun.
Great exhibits. The Jim Henson one is full of interesting displays and information.
Expensive! Compared to other museums, recommend getting the 5 museum pass
This has been the highlight of our trip so far!
There was a big Minecraft exhibit when we went that was really interesting to look at.
I personally loved the Horror exhibit! There were set pieces from Resident Evil, Aliens, The Walking Dead, and a lot more. The Sci Fi exhibit was second favorite as it had the prop gun Robocop used in his side holster! I was very surprised to see a creature from Starship Troopers as well!
The location was very close to our hotel room too, so that as a major plus. If you're visiting Seattle like we are, this should definitely be a stop on your visit!
Fun museum, not just for music lovers. A bit pricey especially if you go to the Star Trek exhibit.
I loved this place, I was amazing to just wander around and see all of these things. Especially the Marvel exhibit
What a great experience. The horror exhibit was great. Lots of classics. The Star Trek exhibit was fun, lots of artifacts from the show and several interactive aspects like making a transporter video scene. Great staff, everyone was very helpful and friendly. The fantasy exhibit was amazing too with props from movies like Lord of the Rings and Princess Bride.
Good exhibit needs a little help with formatting the routes a bit better... other than that is great!!
We got there with only 30min before closing so I only got to see the sci-fi / horror and fantasy exsibits. But it was great!
Exhibits were fragmented bits and pieces, not that interesting.. the buildings architecture with curvilinear walls was better.
If you love music or pop culture this is the place to visit!
I was there today and three exhibits were closed. Disappointing overall. If you're into sci-fi and seattle music history (Nirvana and Hendricks) you ll enjoy it. I live in DC and museums are plentiful and free with better exhibits. This was over priced, especially with three closed sections.
I don t think I would return.
The place was very fun but I felt like I had to shove my way threw it and in the music area we had to "camp" by doors to get in because it was so packed and everyone was using things before us and my sticker didn't stay on my shirt well and fell off 2 times and I had lost it but security didn't even noticed which is a huge problem as someone could get in for free.
It's pretty cool. Plenty of different expositions, very dynamic and interactive.
Being a huge music this place is simply magic. Hendrix was a huge inspiration when I first started learning guitar in the 60's. The museum has a special musicians feeling about it.
Had a company even there. It's a fun museum to visit. When I was there, they had a Star Trek featured section.
I'm a big museum fan, and I was particularly excited about one as unique as MoPoP. The themes of their exhibits were great, but I left feeling that few had the depth I was hoping to find. The sections dedicated to Horror, Fantasy, and Sci-Fi all had a decent amount of props, but I was hoping to learn something about the history of these genres including major events and progression over time. Mostly it just showed the prop and a picture of it in action during a movie. The Indie gaming exhibits was the most disappointing. I learned nothing about the major events in game development history, and very little of what brought about indie game development specifically. There were many interesting games available to play, but about a fourth of the screens were white with no way to interact or restart the consoles. The only sections that I felt lived up to my favorite museum experiences were the Nirvana exhibit and the Sound Studio where you could learn the basics of instruments first hand and try them out.
I really loved this place. If you are into music and movies this is the place for you. It holds specific exhibitions for local bands such as Nirvana and Pearl Jam. You can also experience the sounds of some iconic guitars and get to know the artists behind them. If you are into sci-fi, fantasy and horror, you will not be disappointed either. Definitely recommend the visit.
Really enjoyable day out. Seeing film props and costumes from the icon movies was really exciting. Only wish there was more to see
MoPOP has been one of my favorite places to visit when I'm in Seattle ever since it was EMP. I actually like it better as a general pop culture museum. If I lived in Seattle or got up there more often is definitely be a member. The collection is amazing. I just saw the Marvel exhibit and there was so much cool stuff there. My wife and seven year old daughter had a great time, too. Highly recommended.
This place was right up my ally! Loved the exhibits featuring props from my favorite movies, loved the exhibit featuring indie video games and even the Hello kitty exhibit held my interest. Had lots of fun here.
Loved this place, just a giant love letter to everything that's magical and inspiring about our culture. The Marvel exhibit was excellent, loved the amount of space they dedicated to sending up the craft and artistry of the comic book artists that form the backbone of the whole franchise. Loved the Genre exhibits as well, particularly the horror and scifi ones, the indie game space was nice as well, but sometimes it'd be hard to get a seat to try any games out! Didn't matter though, this is an awesome place I think anyone could find something they enjoy in!
Great collection of pop culture props and stories well displayed.
