For the people who really like music, specially rock-'n'-roll and grunge, this place is a must. A lot of Jimi Hendrix items and facts, great photos, posters, clothes, and everything a fan could ask for. They just opened an AMAZING Pearl Jam exhibition, and they also have a great Nirvana collection.

If you expect to see any Andy Warhol and co paintings / sculptures / collage / creativity, you MIGHT be a bit disappointed.
BUT anyway, there are exhibitiopn "rooms" for every fan of cinema and music Pop Art, and gamers, so you won't regret your (certain amount of) dollars.
And prepare an extra $8 for the Marvel temporary exhibit !
Don't miss the Fantasy / Scifi and Horror (PG-13) rooms, accessible ONLY through the 2nd floor.
If you can, don't hesitate to park about 1/3 of a mile, $13 for 4 hours, instead of the first hour next to the museum. Have fun !

Originally conceived as a museum to share Paul Allen's extraordinary Jimi Hendrix collection, the Experience Music Project -- referred to by locals as EMP -- has become so much more over the years (including a wonderful permanent collection of "artifacts" at the Science Fiction Museum (housed within the building). Hence, it's new name, MoPop (Museum of Pop Culture).

Over time, EMP has expanded Allen's rock-n-roll collection well beyond its Hendrix and Northwest roots and has added a wide variety of interactive musical displays that enable visitors to simulate a studio recording experience as a vocalist or musician.

We've been EMP members since 2003, but on this occasion, we were especially impressed by the Rube Goldberg Exhibit (showing currently through April 23rd, 2017). Like much of the rest of MoPop, the world premier of The Art of Rube Goldberg contains a number of hands-on, interactive exhibits.

I've not been here since they changed the name from the EMP. There was a temporary indie video game exhibit with stations to play various games. One thing to note is several of the booths were not working, or games frozen and the games could not be played, sadly.

The Fantasy/horror/sci-fi exhibits are by far the best. Most disturbing thing was the dead-looking-Gizmo doll.

Given the price of admission and the size of exhibits, there shouldn't have been an extra charge to see other features inside the museum, such as the holodome, which did a poor job of explaining itself or letting people know what it was about and why it would be cool to go see and pay extra for.

I'm not really complaining, though I did feel... underwhelmed.

Another unique museum for Seattle, this one dedicated to cult TV/film genres and music. There were exhibitions on Sci-Fi, Fantasy, Horror and Star Trek when I visited and each was superb with hundreds of props from the series, videos with key people from the genres and interactive exhibits. There's also a Nirvana exhibition too which is very interesting. If you're a fan of any of these things it's definitely worth a visit.

As always, we enjoyed our visit. So many different things to see, that even if you've gone through all the exhibits, you haven't truly seen everything. It's a great place to visit with family or with friends.

Definitely not boring!
Unlike some other traditional museums.
Everyone will find something for themselves, a lot of interactive stuff. Kids would also enjoy (don t bring them to the horror exposition though :))

We enjoyed walking around and checking out all the really cool exhibits! I loved the huge variety of music and movie exhibits. We were there when they had some really cool horror movie props and it was awesome getting to see some of my favorite pieces from these movies.

Great Time!, fun for the family with several attractions in and outside of the museum. Took the family to MoPo to see the Marvel Exhibit. It was well worth the cost. Kids under 4 are free. I recommend buying tickets online, save $2 per adult and children. You will need to create a account to purchase online. They do offer military and senior discounts. Plan to spend 3 / 4 hours checking out all the exhibits. There are several cool exhibits to check out, Fantasy, Scifi and Horror and The Jimmy Hendrix. Great for kids 10 and up, I took my 4 year old and it made it a bit of a challenge to appreciate all the pieces and time to read some of the material.

they had the theater and stage closed but still the high price tag with no signs. wouldn't recommend it at all since they can't seem to make sure everything is available. try the Pacific Science center for a much better time.

Fun way to spend a few hours exploring the various exhibits they have on-site. There is a wide variety of things to see, and there really is something for everybody. We went when one of the main exhibits was the Star Trek costumes, and while I've never been a huge fan, those in our group who were really enjoyed what they got to see.

I really loved the art aspects of this place, but felt as though some of the interactive museum part was pretty cheesy. I was especially cringing at the music room, because I m a musician and that exhibit was just an insult to my abilities. However, I m going to overlook that part because the art and the architecture is phenomenal.

I think it was the most amazing museum of the entire Canada-USA trip !! All about music, tv, games and cinema. The ode to pop culture !! Rock featured in the wonderful stack of guitars. Interactive content! Worth the visit! And it is included in the city pass.

EXCEPTIONAL! So much to do & see!Our family went for the Minecraft exhibit. It was FANTASTIC! Everything about Minecraft & then some. We learned quite a bit, an how the game actually HELPS others & different countries.
The middle of the museum had guitars from floor to ceiling. EPIC!!
Then there's the music floor. Pretty much an enlarged studio with instruments, vocals, & sound boards.
You have a sci-fy section, horror section, & fantasy section with INCREDIBLE displays. We had a blast & only wish we'd had more time. Thank you MoPop for a fantastic day of learning

Definitely worth a visit, no matter how old you are. There is so much to see here! I visited when there was a Nirvana/The Who exhibit, and the fact they had actual drumkits used by Dave Grohl and Keith Moon shows just how good this place is.
The pillar of guitars is pretty impressive too. Lots of hands on, interactive exhibits to look at also.

This is probably the most awesome place in all of Seattle. The exhibits were detailed and covered so many topics, the sky church is breathtaking, and the outdoor playground is fit for adults, too. Absolute must-see if you're in town.

Spent a lot of time with the kids in the video game area, but at least 3 stations were inoperable (stuck on loading screen, frozen, controller unresponsive). It would be helpful if it were staffed by an employee, even if it were someone just making the rounds every hour. We were there within the first hour of opening.

The other exhibits themselves were nice and overall well-maintained, but the place was impossibly crowded & loud by noon. I can't fault a museum for high foot-traffic (a sign of great business), but it might be overwhelming for those adverse to crowds.

It was and always will be My favorite place to visit. I took My son to visit the Sci Fi Museum and stayed to see the Marvel exhibit. We also visited the holographic chamber. The Museum delivers on all points . It is outstanding and I enjoyed it immensely.

Good experience with some really cool exhibits. Also some things that I just couldn't get excited about, personally. Definitely takes some time getting through everything so ding plan you just run through it. If you're nearby, its worth checking out.

As a tourist, I visited EMP Museum after Space needle since they are all next to each other. The Sci-Fi and Horror sections were awesome! Even I'm not a big horror movie fan lol. $5 discount if you buy tickets online. :)

Absolutely hands down the coolest museum I have EVER been to. The exhibits are amazing, along with the enormous guitar collection they have. I learned a lot and stayed until I was exhausted. It's a must-see.

I went there yesterday and I loved it because they had nirvana and Jimi Hendrix and in love both but it kinda got boring because my phone died and I couldn't get a picture of Dave's drums

Visited the museum with extended family including 6 teenagers and 4 parents. I am not a huge pop culture buff, but this museum was fascinating and enjoyable for all 10 of us. If I lived nearby, I would visit often, and I will definitely return next time I am in seattle. I especially enjoyed the rooms where you can jam on instruments, or sing in a sound booth. Allow at least a couple hours, or more, because this place is packed with interesting things to see, watch, listen to, and do. Lunch at the cafe downstairs was also quite good.

Great staff and amazing building...not to mention the always-dope exhibits! Essentially no parking right around in the area without paying for it, and even then there's going to be a little walk. Surrounded by all the other fun stuff in the Needle area, this is a must visit. They will check your bag(s) for free next to the ticket counter.

Fails to live up to its promise. Lots of cool memorabilia but they aren t put into context or woven into a broader picture. Needs better curation.

Finally, the building itself, while an interesting piece of art does not showcase its contents or provide a clear flow between exhibits. Visitors actually need to exit the building and renter through a side door to connect the main two exhibit areas.

Great promise but mediocre execution.

One of the best museums I've ever been too! Very interesting and engaging! It was great to see Nirvana's and Jimmy Hendricks' exhibitions. You can also jam and learn how to play musical instruments!
