Originally conceived as a museum to share Paul Allen's extraordinary Jimi Hendrix collection, the Experience Music Project -- referred to by locals as EMP -- has become so much more over the years (including a wonderful permanent collection of "artifacts" at the Science Fiction Museum (housed within the building). Hence, it's new name, MoPop (Museum of Pop Culture).
Over time, EMP has expanded Allen's rock-n-roll collection well beyond its Hendrix and Northwest roots and has added a wide variety of interactive musical displays that enable visitors to simulate a studio recording experience as a vocalist or musician.
We've been EMP members since 2003, but on this occasion, we were especially impressed by the Rube Goldberg Exhibit (showing currently through April 23rd, 2017). Like much of the rest of MoPop, the world premier of The Art of Rube Goldberg contains a number of hands-on, interactive exhibits.
