PRO:

PRO:
1. Next to the train/metro station
2. Clean rooms
3. Kitchen

CON:
1.We stayed 4 nights and the heating system wasn't functional. On the hallway was warmer than our room. Every day we reported the problem and nothing was done. One day, the lady from the reception told us there is no problem even though the heating was defective and she gave us 3 extra blankets.
2. One of the keys vanished from our room and we had no shower towels (not that we could take a shower in that freezing room)
3. We weren't offered another room and first 3 nights it was extremely loud on the hallway until 1 AM.
4. No functioning elevator from the parking lot until the Reception.
My husband had difficulties climbing the stairs in front of the Hotel because the reception was moved in a different location. ( He has a prosthetic leg)
5. Not possible to park for a few minutes in front of the hotel.
6. Breakfast selection not that good.
7. Awful internet connection

When I first entered the hotel I was prepared for almost all I saw thanks to the website gallery. I was not, however, prepared for the staff. Friendly, accommodating and personal approach to myself and family. Genuinely glad to have us there and willing to make our stay memorable, without being in our faces or overly polite. The dining area is casual and comfortable. Our 4 bed room was big enough and spotlessly clean. Beds were comfy and I was able to et 4 extra pillows. I asked the room attendant if the room and towels were done daily (which I don't feel necessary), and he said no, unless we wanted it. An honest answer which I appreciated.
I did feel the lift was too small (there are only 2) for such a large place. The hotel was fully booked, but in fairness, it never seemed that way. There weren't huge crowds at any time. The outside space may be a bit grubby but it rained the whole time I was there, so that probably didn't help. Some heaters and umbrellas would be good though.
I would stay again without hesitation. Thank you staff!

Location is amazing, right by Train and Bus Station and there is a Spar and a restaurant a few doors away. The room was always clean and well stocked and they do a breakfast buffet and sandwiches etc at the bar (which was handy when we came back after midnight) The reception staff were fabulous and went out of their way to help with our inability to find anything in the city and told us exactly what trains/trams to use. First Class service Also, beds were really comfy

The only downside to this hostel is the less than ideal location. There is little within walking distance, so you have to take the train, metro, tram, or bus to the main city attractions. That being said, all of those options are convenient to the hostel. Also, there is a Flixbus bus stop at the train station next to the hostel, so it is very easy getting to the hostel if you're coming to Amsterdam via bus.

Missed a flight and spent a night in this hotel. Surprisingly inexpensive, nice clean room and very lively lounge downstairs. Booked a late checkout, which must have gone lost somewhere in the system, because we were woken at regular checkout time. The staff apologized and we received a full refund without request - very professional.
The bar is a bit pricey, bit who knows - maybe those are normal Dutch prices.
Definitely would recommend this hotel for quick or longer visits.

I usually stay at a hostel when I go to Amsterdam....

I usually stay at a hostel when I go to Amsterdam. I decided to stay at Meininger this time, and I am happy, overall, with my decision. The single rooms are small, but it was all I needed. The in-room showers are a bonus if you like showering as much as I do; showering in hostels is a bit like showering in a college dorm - you have to hope a shower is open when you need it and you have to walk around with your shower supplies, which I find to be taxing. I also do not like showering with strangers. One downfall to staying at Meininger is that there is no indoor smoking area and cannabis is prohibited outside the hotel within the tobacco smoking area. When I stay in a hostel, I typically make a lot of friends because I have somewhere to hang out. This time, I did not have the opportunity to speak to a single guest and I did not meet anyone new. The breakfast is odd, but good; it's mostly bread, meat, tomatoes, cucumbers, and cheese. They have yogurt, granola, fruit, and cereal, too. Meininger is located in a newer part of Amsterdam with no restaurants or coffeeshops nearby. That inconvenience was evened out by the fact that the hotel is extremely close to Sloterdijk Station, so Centraal Station is just a short train ride away. I did spend more money than I'd have liked on train tickets, though. I found myself heading to Centraal, walking around the city until I was exhausted, and then returning to Sloterdijk. I had to plan out when I would buy souvenirs and gifts because I could not simply walk back to my hotel to drop things off. I had to be careful about meal planning because of the lack of decent, easily accessible food at Meininger, especially past midnight. It's a good idea to stop at a supermarket daily before returning to Meininger to get whatever types of food you like. If you're an introvert traveling alone looking for loads of solitary time, Meininger is the place for you. However, if you like to meet new people and make friends, Meininger will probably drive you up the wall. They do have a bar, so if you're a drinker, you can probably meet people there... but I'm not a drinker and I didn't go to Amsterdam to drink alcohol, haha!

The hotel is good in general: room and toilet are small but comfortable. The only desapoiting thing was that the room was not clean when we arrive: there were used toilets on the toilet floor and the sheets and pillow cases were dirty. They certainly did not clean the room before we arrive. The rest was ok!

We booked a triple private room and it was a bit tight compared with our previous stay at Brussels. Heating system was very good though and location OK, just besides train station (Sloterdijk). It's a huge hostel and lifts would always be busy, 10min waiting min. Downside was the labyrinth we had to take to reach elevators/stairs to get to the 1st floor. Overall experience was just Ok.

Well, I've slept in so many hotels in Amsterdam, but trust me this hotel was one of the best one. The rooms were super clean and comfy. Everything is perfectly organized. The service was friendly and very communicative. You can buy canal rides or weekend tickets from service. They also offer bunch of other activities too..
Its perfect location for everyone. Right near to Amsterdam Sloterdijk station you can catch trains in just 5 min.

The hotel is great. A super comfortable 4 room, towels changed every day and the shower worked perfectly. There were very few noises. The hotel has a kitchenette, tables to eat or hang out, bar, billiards, recreational machines ... it's super good. It has a train station next door, a central station and 15 minutes from the airport. In the same street there is also a SPAR supermarket, which takes you out of a hurry, a very good Italian-Indian restaurant and the delicious Hermes cafeteria. The bad thing is the slogan, which is paid, but still does not cost too much, 1 an hour. In the large slogan fit 3 unpaid size suitcases. They do not speak Spanish.

Group of lads stayed here for a stag do and it was the perfect base to explore the city from. Rooms were spacious and clean with a decent bathroom, communal spaces downstairs are also very good, hotel staff couldn t have been more helpful.

Be aware this is a youth hotel.

Be aware this is a youth hotel.
Expect a loudish atmosphere from dozens of youngsters with a beer in the lobby.
Rooms are ok, beds are ok, bathroom is ok. Breakfast has lot's of options but again expect many youngsters (if your lucky they're hung over and less noisy ;) there might be a line for the food.
Just next to train station so location wise a good choice.

Edit: inside the room it was quiet. So a good night's rest was guaranteed.

The room is functional, the cleanliness ok. The staff was friendly, also at the bar. The location to the public transport is ideal, also a small supermarket is around the corner. Large underground parking at reasonable prices.
Why only 3 stars? The audience is very young, the nights loud, be it music from the next room or loud guests in the hallway. Who can live well with it, is in good hands here. The breakfast buffet was good.

Not worth the money. Huge, anonymous hostel full of school trips. Sink in the 7 beds room outside the bathroom, obliged to leave your keycard in the wall to get light and electricity. The designer NEVER TRAVELED IN HIS/HER LIFE. Miserably dumb.

This hotel is very close to the station Amsterdam Sloterdijk (maybe 1 minute walking!), so it's simple to reach by tram, bus or train. It's a very funny hotel, rooms are clean and the staff is very nice and ready to help you.
It's a good hotel to relax after walking for all day around Amsterdam!

I stayed at Meininger City West from 28/2/2019 since 3/3/2019. The room was clean, and the Receptionists were helpful and kind. BUT when we visited the kitchen there where mice everywhere. When you enter the kitchen room there are 2 washing machines to the left. There was something like a mice nest under it. There were too many. When some kids saw them they screamed a lot and the hotel "manager" came up. (He was bold guy around 50 years old). When we told him about the mice nest he just said: "Oh come on, it 's MICKEY" . He tried to make fun of us while we just realized that we paid a HOTEL FULL OF MICE ! Do not visit that hotel at any cost!

Everything was perfect. The hotel is really close to train, metro, bus and tram stations, so you can have easy access not only to the centre but also to every place you want to visit. The rooms are warm, cozy and very clean. The whole place is beautiful and colorful, and there are many things to do around the hotel. The people working there are very kind and helpful, so don't hesitate to ask anything you want. There is a also a market 5 minutes or less away from the hotel in witch you can find anything you want, a pub just across the street and a restaurant like 5 minutes away from it. I'm definitely staying there again next time I'm visiting Amsterdam.

I was in a single bed room and it was perfect for a place to sleep. Too small to hang around in, but the hotel has a huge area on the main floor to sit and eat or drink. Everything was clean and the staff friendly and helpful.

We sleep 2 nights in the MEININGER Hotel Amsterdam City West, it was quiet and clean. 4 guys in the same room. Less 10mn to reach the Center with the Sprinter (3.30 the way). Close to the train station, Metro tram and bus (SLOTERDIJK).
Negative points : no fridge in the room, and mattress are too hard.

I was surprised that the hostel was so great, because the price per night was very cheap. A good strategy is to go in a group, so you can occupy the whole room. It is also 2 minutes away from the big station Sloterdijk and the flixbus station. There is a supermarket 5 minutes away. Recommended!!

We had a great stay at this hotel, it was neat, new, and clean. The reception was generous (printed a few pages for me) and the wifi worked perfectly. We had dinner and breakfast buffet which were ok. The rooms had individual lights and tons of outlets, which came in handy, and the central bed could be split into two twins. The bunk beds were sturdy and the bathrooms were nice. The train stop right there took one stop to get to the city center.

We slept in a 4 bed dorm with 2 other female travellers, having booked into a 7 bed... A nice touch when we were expecting 5 strangers! Private shower and toilet to each dorm that was immaculately clean with a brilliant power shower. Loads of storage and beds are comfortable. All you can Eat Breakfast at 8 is excellent value with a selection of cereals, breads, cheeses, cold meat, fresh fruit, spreads, juices, teas, eggs, vegetables... Eating a breakfast here meant we didn't eat again until dinner! Excellent location right beside Sloterdijk train station, 6 minutes from Centraal and 10 minutes from Schiphol. Would definitely recommend.

This is by far the best budget hotel I have ever been to! Its a stone's throw away from the Train Station which is only 1 stop to the city center and apart from that the Hotel is very very clean (I thought it had just opened). There is a kitchen available for everyone. There is a bar area which is lively in the evening and the rooms are very spacious.

I really enjoyed the common kitchen, having access to fridge, stove, microwave and so on.
The room was nice and clean.
The breakfast was good and the price was also good. Could improve the replacement of missing things, like coffee, bread, cups.
The carpet was a little smelly.

Very polite staff. Top price / performance.
Room like in the pictures!
When it came to parking, the hotel was also very cooperative and even let us stand free longer than initially agreed.
Train immediately next to the hotel.

The only drawback was a few hair in the shower and in the bathroom in general, this was manageable.

Rooms are basic but comfortable. They're also surprisingly quiet, even when facing the nearby train tracks. The walls kept out all of the noise from our neighbours, but the door to the hallway wasn't quite so soundproof.

Staff are all extremely friendly and accommodating and all spoke excellent English, if that's a concern.

Didn't try the breakfast, so can't comment on the food. The bar prices are variable - some beers and snacks are very affordable, but spirits and e.g. Pringles are surprisingly pricey.

Really well staffed hotel, all staff were friendly willing to give good advice and helpful. It is a bit far out from the main city centre but you can easily catch a train or tram. The hotel is next door to a major train/tram/bus station. There is a kitchen downstairs, large area to meet travellers and possibly the coolest elevators I've ever seen. It's biggest issue is the price, it's very expensive to stay there and cancellation policy is quite rigid.

I arrived at the hotel, I booked a small dormitory w/ up to 8 people; they might ve been overbooked because they upgraded me to a single room for free no extra charge. Rooms were clean, the mattress was very good and it had good ventilation with adjustable fan-speeds. It is newly renovated, and one can tell it is cheaply done so; but you do receive what you pay for and you probably won t find as good value anywhere else. The breakfast was okay, it did not sit out long in the dining area so it was reassuring to eat there. Overall hygiene seems good, except the dreadful floormat they had on every floor. Staff was nice and was willing to offer service, made my stay there a very good one. I would book a Meininger hotel with my next trip also!

Nice accommodation, but it is a shame that the windows on the room cannot be opened. The breakfast buffet is sufficient, but the rolls were baked a bit too much. But all in all, very good. We recommend. Good connection to the tram station and from there only about 5 minutes to Amsterdam center.
