The map and direction given by the hostel is unclear. I've been backpacking for a month, this was the only hostel that I could not find when I arrived. I wasn't the only one either! When I arrived, a girl had just called the front desk and asked for directions. I only know this because the staff that was checking us in said "apparently a girl is outside of our hostel and don't know how to get here!" when he hung up the phone. Other than the confusion, the hostel is very clean and modern. The staffs are also very helpful! My friend had to go see a doctor and the staff helped her book an appointment, and even printed out directions for her.

Budget friendly hotel. Many rooms, mechanical customer service and breakfast self service. Some issues with missing towels were easily addressed. Issues with the air-conditioning however were not. Quiet rooms. Very close to the train station. Overall a good experience for the price. I would visit again under same budget conditions.

Absolutely amazing place to stay if you are heading to Amsterdam. The rooms are spacious, warm and clean; and it s location means it is super connected to the city. It sits right on top of Sloterdijk station meaning it is only about a 10 minute train ride from Centraal. Look no further if you need a spacious room in a quiet area. We absolutely loved our experience here.

Easy to get into the centre of Amsterdam. Room layout was great and a large room for a family of 5. Long queue for reception but it moved fast. Terrible mould on roof of shower!!!! The rest of the room was very clean!

The location of this hotel is brilliant. A minutes walk from a major train station. After being greeted by friendly helpful staff we were checked in swiftly. Our room was spacious, quiet and clean with all the facilities expected of a more expensive hotel. The beds were comfortable, the shower powerful and the towels were nice and fluffy!
Breakfast was a bargain and delicious too. Our two children thoroughly enjoyed the daily specials and also liked observing what people from other countries ate for their breakfast!
I was a bit dubious about the hotel as I thought it would be full of noisy backpacking teenagers, however I didn't hear any noise at all despite our room overlooking the front of the hotel.
I would definitely recommend the hotel and will definitely visit again.
Overall I can not fault our stay. Thank you Meininger!

Nice clean and modern hotel and the staff were super friendly. The hotel is also dog friendly so that is one thing to note if you like to travel with your dog.
The hotel is right beside the Sloterdik train station so A'Dam is very easily accessible.
The room I stayed in was very small for such a big hotel, that is the only issue I would have.

Overall would recommend

Extremely expensive and poor service. Rooms are small and look a lot like ikea. Blankets and betts are uncomfortable. Poor breakfast as well. Very disappointed. Was my first time there and definitely the last time.
The only good thing about this hotel is that you can get into the city within 20 minutes.

We stayed for 3 nights and it was a nice stay. There were four of us and we had our own private room with our own bathroom. It was nice to have our own space. The room was very clean and even though it was a bit small it was comfortable enough for the four of us. The only down side was it was a bit warm at night and with no windows to let in fresh air it was a bit hard to sleep the first night. I would recommend bringing a small desk fan if coming in the summer time. Overall it was a great stay and I would recommend for future guests.

Not in the center but less than five minutes away from tram, metro and bus and very convenient when you arrive through Schipol airport. The room was not big but clean and modern and the wi-fi worked just fine. The guest kitchen was very useful to microwave supermarket dinners. The staff was polite and helpful. Overall, very good value for money.

This was a great place to stay. Our family room was fine for the 4 of us. We enjoyed the breakfast each morning.

The location is good too. Very handy for the airport and only about 20 minutes from the centre of town by bus or tram.

Nice places to eat local too, in Bret and the pizza restaurant in the holiday inn nearby.

Great hotel for groups travelling together. Very relaxed atmosphere downstairs at the lounge. They provide you with games and can play while at the bar. Really happy with our stay here, would definitely repeat.

The staff were very friendly and helpful. We were able to buy our 2 day travel pass at reception which was nice. They offer a lot of discounts as well. The hotel is also in a very nice location, right next to a train station which was very helpful and made it easier to get around. The rooms were also very clean and comfortable. The lounge was also very nice and we enjoyed it very much.

Stayed for 4 nights this year and 3 nights last year, highly recommend it. Next to a train station and bus/tram station with very good links, always clean and late checkout fee is small but goes a long way. Always going to be my first choice hotel for Amsterdam

***IN MY OPINION, HOTEL NOT FOLLOWING TERMS AND CO...

***IN MY OPINION, HOTEL NOT FOLLOWING TERMS AND CONDITIONS FOR BOOKINGS DURING PANDEMIC***

Unfortunately, I have to leave a poor review after my experience with dealing with this hotel chain. We had booked a 4 night stay in a room of 6 from Thursday 12th November 2020 until Monday 16th November 2020. We have previously stayed at the hotel in October 2019 and were familiar with the chain in general, after staying at the Amstel hotel in January 2019 and the East Side Gallery hotel in Berlin last month (October 2020).

We booked this hotel due to the accessible room facilities. One of our party uses a wheelchair. Therefore, it is not possible for us to stay in one of the hotels nearer to the city centre as they often have narrow stairs and are without a lift facility. This limits our choice in terms of hotels.

We are travelling from the UK and as of Tuesday 13th October 2020, the Dutch government required that any arrivals from the UK were required to self isolate for 10 days, even when in receipt of a negative coronavirus test. Furthermore, on 31 October 2020, the UK government announced a 4 week national lockdown from 5 November to 2 Decmber 2020, with overseas travel being not permitted. We had made the booking some time ago when no travel restrictions were in place. We contacted the airline who were happy to make provisions for us to rearrange our flights and made the process very simple and easy.

However, when contacting the hotel to attempt to rearrange the hotel to a later date next year, we were initially informed that this could be done for a 50 Euro admin fee. Yet the hotel then changed their position and stated that they would not rearrange the booking despite the fact that we had already rearranged our flights. We have contacted the hotel on multiple occasions to say that we were not looking to cancel our booking but to simply rearrange the dates to a later date when coronavirus restrictions for UK travellers were relaxed. However, it could not be explained why the possibility of changing the dates had been withdrawn and we were directed to contact the intermediary with whom we made the booking through (Hotels.com), even though we explained that had (as anticipated) stated we needed to deal with the hotel directly. The Hotels.com terms and conditions specifically state that if the hotel destination is inaccessible then a full refund or voucher will be issued (photo 1). The UK foreign office advice specifically states that travel during the national lockdown is not permitted (photo 2). Therefore, the hotel destination is inaccessible and we are entitled to a full refund or travel voucher.

In light of the global pandemic and issues with travel restrictions, we are extremely disappointed with the conduct of the hotel. Having been a previous guest of the hotel, we are very surprised by the lack of co-operation and understanding that travel restrictions can disrupt a stay at short notice. This is particularly surprising given that our initial request was not to cancel the booking or request a refund in anyway, but to simply push back our stay to a later date, of course paying an additional fee for a higher rate and the admin fee.

Furthermore, given that we require accessible facilities for a member of our party, it is disappointing that having found a hotel that we knew had said facilities. Unfortunately, now we will have to search for an alternate hotel when returning to Amsterdam in the future which can accommodate us. As the options in the centre are limited this may be further in distance from the centre and there is no guarantee that it will be suitable.

The four-person room was clean and cozy. I also liked the buffet for breakfast: a large selection of spicy dishes. You can save money by spending a lot more at the cafe outside. The downside is that there are so many people in the hotel. You often have to wait a long time for the lift.

Negative:

Negative:
The checkout could be set to sometime later than 11 AM. Even the extended period for checkout, for 10 Eur, is only until 2 PM.
Although it's 2 minutes away from the railway station which then takes you to Amsterdam CS in about 6-7 minutes, and also as near to Flixbus stops (we came from Bruxelles), the area around the hotel is not very clean and we saw many rats on the sidewalk and around.
By the way the trains to CS and backwards are not really available between 1:15AM - ~5 AM

Positive:
For just under 8 Eur you can buy one of the best breakfasts to keep you full until late in the afternoon. Fruits, compotes, yogurts, few vegetables, blue cheese, seed bread, cereals and everything in between.
The hotel was packed with all kind of tourists, many of which were families with little children so no need to worry about weird people.

a next generation hostel. ...I don't know what this building as used before, but it is the perfect shape for a hostel. well, for a next generation hostel. hundreds of beds, but you don't realize that. because you stay in a "hotel" room with several beds. own shower. own bathroom. very clean and modern. the restaurant/bar area with outside space is also Perfect. what you expect from a state of the art hostel. and it's just some 4-5 minutest from a highly frequented train station. and super market.

i was traveling alone, I chose a 5 people room. Everything went really good: the room was clean and even if I didn't ask the reception all the people that slept in the room I was were female.
Breakfast is really good and rich for only 7 per day.
People are nice and pleasant, there is a very positive atmosphere.
The people at the reception and at the bar have been really helpful and nice.
The hostel is well located and you can reach Amsterdam Central in 10 mins of train and about 20 with bus.

it's been a great experience and I met really nice people over there. There are even families, it's a very quiet place! :)

The hotel was ok, the room was alright, and the service was good. I've stayed there for five days, and in the end of the third day, when I got back to the room, I've found out I've got stolen. I had some money in may wallet, which was in my backpack, which was in my luggage. At that time I didn't have a locker to lock my luggage, but it was definitely closed. They also don't have a safety box in the room. But, the worst part about that, was the manager who, at the first time, sad that the only thing he can do was to recommend me to make a police report. Even knowing that the hotel has the policy that they don't has the responsibility about the things in the room, it's an absurd that the hotel couldn't do anything to, at least, make the my last hours staying at the hotel more "comfortable", or at least, compensate somehow. I know they can't pay the lost money, but I trust in them for living my stuffs in the room, and the least I expect is to be safe. It is a shame, because Amsterdam is fantastic, but this hotel, made the trip not 100% great.

We had a quad room, Amsterdam for one night. Room was spacious, modern, very clean and comfortable.
Disappointed that there was no coffe facilities in room. Mentioned this to staff when leaving. They told us there is a kitchen for guests to make coffee ect.
Would have better to tell us this when we checked in.
Still prefer facilities in the room though as we had kids with us and would be a hassle to go downstairs everytime we wanted a cuppa.

Very good position for tourists.
The staff at the reception was very kind, always available and professional.
We appreciated also the breakfast, for the wide choice and fairly good quality of food.

But...
The rooms are small; not adequate to the price paid.
The room was well cleaned at our arrival, but during our stay the room service was insufficient, even if we asked 2 times at the reception to take more care on room cleaning.
We also had to change room one evening, "becuase of a leakage".

On an absolute scale, the Meininger is not a 4-star hotel, but on a relative one it is. Lively, friendly and functional ... not luxurious of course, and with the issue of the aeration system throughout the establishment which can be annoying after a couple of days.
