I had my locker broken into and my Rolex stolen. Absolutely no support or help from the club to solve the crime or contribute to the loss - despite this apparently having happened on quite a few occasions. The only interest the club showed was in avoiding this being made public. One would expect a better response than that from a club in this price range. Shameful.

Absolutely AWFUL. Went for a spa day, had an hours treatment which I was advised my therapist was running late, totally acceptable I work in the industry so I know these things happen. I had my treatment and was advised to get up and dressed and my therapist will be back at this point I was sitting on the bed upright. I got dressed and sat in the chair, I waited and waited, I eventually opened the door to check if someone was outside nobody was nowhere to be seen. I felt rude leaving without saying goodbye or thank you so I continued to wait for my therapist to return. About 10 minutes after I had a knock on the door, I opened the door to which my friend and her therapist was standing there asking if I had been asleep , I said to my friend no I m waiting for my therapist to return my friends therapist then said oh no she s gone for lunch! She eats her lunch outside so you ll see her on your way out! I was gobsmacked!! I was left In the room for half an hour alone after a one hour treatment laying down! I wasn t offered any assistance or if I needed walking back to the relaxation room! Poor service. I have now been in contact with the head office and when they sent me the statement from the therapist it turns out she was the spa manager.. that speaks a thousand words in itself! If the spa manager can t even give good service there s no hope for anyone else. The email was full of lies, the only way they can back themselves up is via cctv, which I ve asked them to look at but no, empty threats. Basically it s a free for all, if you do happen to fall asleep you ll be left in a room with the door shut for how long? Lord only knows! It s a good job I didn t pass out, or fall over and knocked myself unconscious! Poor service, lying to make money! We would never return to a virgin active spa/gym. AVOID !

Covid 19 update

Covid 19 update

The club announced they were opening the outside courts as social distancing eases. But failed to mention they are not welcoming kids. It's hard to fathom how a family club can come up with such a policy.
Please, if you want to have any members when you reopen start thinking about your members first.

The club needs investment. Been a member for years but now considering leaving due to facilities starting to fall apart.

As a current member I can say that it s not worth joining at present, I know the sheer size of the gym, numerous facilities bar and restaurant makes it look attractive but that soon fades away. One of the most basic things you would expect More

When virgin took it over it looks to me like they expanded the membership base a lot and now the facilities are decidedly over subscribed. In short it's a nice place but very very crowded at popular times. If you have kids the lessons themselves are good but often it's very difficult to get lessons at reasonable times because the place is so over subscribed these days. The customer service is generally pretty awful- our experience has been that phone calls and emails aren't reliably answered etc which makes it a pain to deal with them.

Disappointing tennis for children. Fees for group lessons have been raised to laughable levels to make up for a huge proportion of the children who have left as they were unhappy. So now, the level has gone down, there are fewer group lessons and the costs are higher... Very disappointing.
The rest of the club is lovely, such a shame that it cannot get its act together on this.

We have seen some good improvements with dressing room upgrades and pilates is now included in the price which is great. The gym is also good.

However, the place needs to invest big and quickly as it's simply not worth the money and the luxury tag.

The spa area is outdated and typically something is closed due to a fault.

It feels dirty at times and it's always a nice surprise to find no toilet paper.

But when you get a text saying 'bring your own towels today as we are running short', then you know there is something very wrong!

Great facilities but very dirty and badly maintained (eg grouting mouldy in showers, studio floors always gritty). Shame it lets itself down so much over things that don't cost money but are just about transmitting an attitude of attention to detail to the staff. Every other Virgin Active I go to is cleaner and better maintained (including Acton).

I'm writing this review as an ex employee. As a member, this place is still fine enough in some aspects (although, definitely not worth the price). However, as an employee it is nothing but terrible. You are mainly treated as a machine who is expected to work and work and are not treated as a human. Most employees working here are good people, but unfortunately I can't say the same for the management. They are really the ones responsible for the downfall of Virgin Active. Simply incompetent and pretty useless most of them! They sit in their office spying on the employees through the cameras and are more interested in pleasing their bosses than creating a good experience for members and staff. Every time you see the staff working extra hard and the managers running around the club with a bottle of spray, rest assured that one of the regional managers or a relative of Richard Branson is visiting. The good managers don't stay for long and the bad managers stay longer than they should (getting appointed is bad enough). The employee turnover is very high and I personally have seen this club getting worse and worse both for members and staff. And for those thinking the members changing room is bad, please go and have a look at the staff changing room if you can... As a member I would say this gym is ok if you're not too bothered about the price and want to use some decent facilities (including an outdoor pool and tennis courts), a place you can spend weekend with your family, sit and relax or do some work or workout while leaving your kids in the kids club. But don't have too high expectations. This club could have been a thousand times better than what it currently is and that is the most unfortunate part.

Excellent facilities. Great indoor and outdoor tennis courts as well as lovely swimming pools. Quite expensive joining fee and membership fees. Good for children with childcare and lots of sporting activities for children.
