The host staff was horrible and never took my name when I told them how many guest we had. They told me how long the wait would be and then never put me in line. They sat other people first who came in after us and only when I complained did we get put on the wait list. I was incredibly disappointed with the service here and spent my money elsewhere.

I'm sure the food would have been great--can't really go wrong with brunch. That aside the hostess was terrible. We were told it would be an hour wait. We patiently waited an hour and a half...we were given no updates and inquired about how much longer of a wait it would be. The hostess' response was maybe 30 more minutes. She did not apologize and displayed very poor customer service. To add to the terrible service a server decided to let us know that we should have made a reservation, because ya know that'll get us to come back. All in all, very disorganized, poor customer service, and if you do decide to go be sure to call the day before for a reservation.
my friend and i were so excited to try this restaurant after many recommendations. i have never written a review before..i had the carmel apple french toast. which was not french toast. it was a dried out piece bread pudding or baked french toast.never saw an apple in it. luke warm at best. it was about a 3 inch by 4 inch square. my friend had the blueberry pancakes which were not done. don't expect any extras like a pat of butter.an extra blueberry.piece of fruit.nothing.she ate one and sent the rest back. each dish was 9.50 which is ok if you are getting a good portion.we both had 1 fancy coffee and 2 strips of bacon. bacon was great.the bill with tip was 50.00 dollars for 2 people. outrageous because it was about 4 dollars worth of food. service was ok. not worth the trip from racine
Couldn t try for really odd reasons. Walked in today for brunch and half their tables were empty yet the hostess said that there was an hour wait. Just really odd. Then we asked if we could sit at the half empty bar. Hostess then tells that the bar seats are also on the wait list. We then wait upstairs with all the other people on this so called wait list and notice that half the tables up there are empty as well. After awkwardly waiting 15 mins with all the other people standing around on the top floor, none of which got sat, we gave up and left. If they are that inefficient at seating empty tables, no way could it be a good dining experience.
What is happening to Engine Co? We went on Saturday 12/30 food was so salty we could hardly eat it, plus the service was bad. Never asked if we wanted a 2nd drink, and didn't see server again till she brought the check. This also happened the previous time we came in November. That time, one of my husband's poached eggs was cooked hard, and when they remade it, there was no sauce on it. He asked for hollandaise, they brought it, and charged $1 for it! We asked to have taken off--just on principal as it was their mistake in the first place. Finally, went to the bathroom just to wash my hands when we got there and it was disgusting. Filthy. Kind of lost my appetite right then. Love La Merenda, but won't be coming back to Engine Co.
Great looking place. Would of loved to try the food, but don't walk into this establishment in work clothes. You won't get any service.
Soup was horrible. Potato and carrot but looked like a cheese soup. Very salty. Only kind they had. I told them I didn't like it. And he said nothing. Very limited menu.
The wait upstairs went from 30 minutes to over an hour. I actually had to call the restaurant to see what the issue was... The food was terrible, overloaded blueberries pancakes and overcooked, dried out bacon.
I had the WORST Milwaukee brunch experience this morning at Engine Company No. 3. Our waitress was sweet, the only redeeming factor. We were seated by the open door and had to keep our coats in the whole meal. I ordered maple French toast, came covered in strawberry jam?! Sorry, don't like strawberries, wasn't listed so on the menu. Sent it back, asked for what I originally ordered: maple French toast. Entree came : BURNT AND INEDIBLE. Manager came over, made excuses. By this time my friends have finished eating. The manager REFUSED to cover entree. Decided to try the pancakes. I was "offered" the employee discount of 50% off. Woohoo? Went to the bathroom NO TOILET PAPER. Then, to top it off, THE HOST ASKED US TO LEAVE BEFORE MY FOOD HAD EVEN ARRIVED. The pancakes were so dry I left them. Never EVER coming back. Horrible service.
Ignored most of the time. Blood Mary's tasted like mix out of a bottle. The food was not of the quality you would want for the price. The drinks were $10 a piece.
Not going back! Food tasted like they put no effort in to making it, it was over priced, the chorizo wasnt eatable and our pancakes were raw! :( not a good experience!
I can not give a full review because I did not have the opportunity to eat their food but I will review on their customer service (or lack thereof). I called this morning and asked if there was a wait and was told no that we could get a seat right away. However, when we arrived, it was a different story. We were first asked if we had reservations then told we could not have a seat todat. When my wife explained this to me, I went back in to discuss with the young lady at the hostess station. I asked her why she didn't tell me when I called 10 minutes prior to arrival that they require reservations? I told her I would see her in 10 minutes and she said ok then immediately hung the phone up (without saying goodbye). She then said she could seat us but we would have a 40 minute wait. I'm not sure if this is common practice for Engine Company No 3? Very rude over the phone and the front of house. These two key components of your operation are your clients first impreassion. Your business looks successful and I wish you luck, but the face of your company needs a tune up. Thanks for pushing us away, Zak' s Cafe was very glad to have us and their service, staff, and food were spot on for our first trip to Milwaukee.
Plenty of open tables but was told there was no open seating! 0 stars!!
I was in Milwaukee on a trip to see friends and we had booked a table to have breakfast here. We were a group of 4 and had heard good things about the food here, but we were all massively let down after this visit. Firstly the menu was unnecessarily hard to read and we needed our waitress to explain the dishes. When we ordered, two of us had the salmon on brioche, I think the third had a version of an eggs Benedict and the 4th the polenta. Our salmon brioche was more brioche than salmon, couldn t have been more than a spoonful of salmon on there. It was also covered in too much oil and surprisingly tasteless. The bene was also flavourless and oily and the polenta had too much fatty meat and again far too much oil. We collectively ate very little of our meals and after putting in our complaint, we were offered nothing but a cinnamon roll which, you guessed it, was far too oily. Wouldn t go back in a hurry.
It gets one star ONLY because I liked out waitress Jackie. I was there for brunch, the pankcakes had no flavor, out of the box just add water mixes taste better, the sausage links tasted like cardboard with a very weird texture. The atmosphere is fair and the seating for 2 is a terrible setup, those tables are in the narrow back hall directly across from the bathrooms (gross!!) and kitchen service/coffee station. Not impressed and will not return.
Went here for my bachelorette party and we received the worst service I think i have ever had at a resturant. The lady serving us was rude the whole time and seemed annoyed with us for no reason at all. When it came time for the bill she would not split it and i caught her and the other employees talking badly about us in the corner and giving us nasty looks. The food was amazing but thanks to the staff my day to celebrate my wedding coming soon, was ruined because of bad service. Would not come again.
Had to wait 20mins past reservation. Menu item descriptions minimalistic. Small portions for big price. No salt or pepper provided, as they think you should eat it as is. NO RANCH DRESSING...No substitutions allowed. Cannot have separate checks at one table. 20% added onto check for parties 6 or bigger, so don't bring the family...And overall the most frustrating unprofessional dining experience of my life.
Awkward at every turn, couldn t find a thing to eat on the menu to eat. Not a fan. Cool decor though.
They aren't very clear about the reservation system. Service was okay. The menu makes it seem like a foodie place but it wasn't all that impressive. Won't go back as its not worth a wait or the food prices.
Bruhhhhhh there was a full brand new rubber band cooked into my pancakes. I couldn't even make this up. However, they did make up for it with free new food, and a large apology. Still tho....
