Five stars for atmosphere and service. The appetizer was excellent - a delicious lobster soup. The main course was good, but the fish was fried a bit too much. Then ends on a good firer. A place that fits perfectly if you want good mood and not disturbing music. Prices are in the upper tier.

Koselig, but the waiter was just so incompetent. I had to remind him to bring us water twice. A new hire perhaps. The coffee was good enough, and while tastey I found the food a little simple, actually. Maybe I m just used to traditional Norwegian cuisine.

Thank you for taking 275 nok for fish and 189 for starter. If you don,t have these money, you do not have to worry about spending or saving them.
Thank you for watching for my taste buds. The taste was awful, but the portion so small, I did not suffer much.
Thank you for watching for my health. Margerin i stead of butter used for cooking and for spreading on bread would hurt my stomach, but half of the teaspoon would not be so bad.

We were 10 here Saturday 17 November.
Very cozy place. We had Christmas dinner.
More than enough food.
Top up.
Some waiting time due to full house. Fast and agile waiters. Attentive waiters and very intimate place. Good chairs to sit on.
The food is rolled 5. All in all, we can come back here. The place is recommended.
In terms of price, quite acceptable.
See you from Rune skaugerud toe

Good food, service a bit slow... The trout and turbot was stunning although the cod with bacon was a bit too greasy. It is not cheap but nothing is in Olso. We were looking to eat some famously Norwegian salmon but they only had it as a starter. Not many options for dessert.

Went here recently for a birthday dinner with my partner - and although it was Christmas staff party season (and this is one of *the* spots for them) we were able to enjoy our meal in a section of the restaurant sensibly reserved for smaller personal bookings. Excellent food, wonderful service with attentive wait staff, it was a lovely evening. Would go again in summer to sample different menu and different vibe.

Restaurant with a historical past, a somewhat dark place (at least in the evening) where you can eat very well at a price that to us Italians may seem expensive (especially for the fairly small portions). However, typical Norwegian dishes are eaten (such as reindeer and whale, but not only).

There are numerous reasons Engebret deserves five star rating. First, on a nice day, the view outside is lovely. You can take in some historic architecture and watch the people passing by. The food was very good and the best part is their beer. You should definitely try their own brand of beer. Its very refreshing. Lastly, the staff is extremely pleasant.

Amazing place, amazing food!!

Amazing place, amazing food!!
What I didn't like is that we were charged 15NOK/facemask. I understand charging us for the facemasks, since we didn't have, but making profit out of it...? 15NOK/facemask was too much!

We came in at 14:05 and their sandwich buffet was done unfortunately. So I ordered their "famous fish soup". It was so good! It's cream based but it didn't feel extremely heavy. There was a lot of seafood in it (fish, shrimp and mussels), so I felt good about getting good protein in. And for carbs they served fresh delicious bread.
My husband got their reindeer dish (our primary reason for picking the place). Well, the dish was good, but the reindeer tasted like venison, which I guess is normal.
The outdoor seating area is perfect for a nice quiet lunch in the city center.
I would definitely come back to this restaurant!

Went there to try Smalahove but waiter told me that they have closed kitchen and we have to wait 1.5 hours because kitchen is closes from 5:30 to 8 pm. Is it the prime time for people to dine? Totally disappointed.

Really enjoyed having dinner at this, the oldest restaurant in Oslo. I booked ahead online, and received a confirmation. The rooms inside have so much character, have just have to see them.
Meals were delicious, with the taste of northern Norway appetiser giving me a few new taste experiences.
Staff were friendly and attentive.

My boyfriend and I went here looking to explore some of Oslo's more historical eateries. We were a little hurt when the waiter all by refused us service. I had to find him in the lobby just to get menus after he (that's right, he seated us and then ignored us) had seated us. I do not blame his negligence on our homosexuality by any means, but our age. Sure, we're only in our twenties, but does this mean we should be denied a nice lunch at a fancy restaurant? We were nicely dressed and respectful. In the end, we ended up leaving. After giving me the eyebrows (and not the nice kind), it was clear that we were not welcomed there. It was a bit reminiscent of a scene from Pretty Woman, really.

Of course it is nice at Engebret, the waiter even kindly explained the history of the place. Nice follow, so it would not have taken off to make bridal oil, nor to pretend whether the food was good or not. I will not order the steak for almost NOK 400 again. It was dry and bland. A square potato did not taste very good. A sauce stain on the plate was also nothing. On the other hand, a marbled entrecote bought at Rema 1000, bearnaise sauce that I make myself (in a water bath) and half-boiled potatoes that are then fried in my own oven will be far preferable.
Restaurants have easy games. The guests will be reluctant to create discomfort when a visit is to be an opportunity for pleasant company.
The many good reviews are incomprehensible to me.

Lovely Christmas Lunch There was nothing on the buffet. Everything was tasty and beautifully appointed. Great atmosphere in historic premises. Top service A place you would like to come back to. Highly recommended

Traditional european/norwegian cuisine. Absolutely impeccable service comes across as quite old fashioned in a very good way with an interesting wine list. The quality of ingredients used is very very good, I would say the cooking is very good but not brilliant. The potatoes were meant to be triple cooked chips I think, but were so crusty the fluffy inside was lost, which is key part of the contrast

Good sandwiches, but the buffet was priced per sandwich, and the waiter charged too many sandwiches, messed with the bill and the number of guests at the table. It was an embarrassing experience
