I have been with Electric Ireland NI since December. It has been the worst move company wise I have ever made. Customer service forget it. I tried numerous time by phone and was finally contacted by them after the second email I sent. As soon as my contract ends I will be moving on from this shambles of a so called company .

Where to start...signed up with a sales guy/cowboy who was calling to houses in the area as i was going to sign up online anyway. Agreed to sign up on the basis of a monthly direct debit and non-estimated bill, confirmed that this was the same deal as advertised online.
I asked to speak with a manager but apparently none are available due the pandemic.
I logged a complaint (as this needs to be done before complaining to the Utility Regulator) now I've been informed that I have to wait 5-10 days for someone to call me, even though I asked for all communication to via email as I want a paper trail to be included with the complaint to the Utility Regulator as Electric Ireland clearly cannot be trusted.

This review is written after I have switched from Power NI and have completed my first payment. This will be of particular interest to anybody who like myself had/has a concern over the amount of bad reviews.
When I expressed interest in Electric Ireland, Bernard came to my home and explained everything thoroughly and clearly and give me his phone number if I had any further queries. I received an email from Electric Ireland the next evening with details of when I will be switching over. I received a phone call a few days later to confirm that I was happy with everything. I was grateful for this phone call as I was hesitant to phone to reschedule the time that they had given as the reviews was so negative concerning their call centre. Concerning the phone call for switching over, I found it intense and the customer service agent was not as pleasant as Bernard or the previous customer service agent I spoke to. I appreciate that it is not a pleasant job as you are calling out long numbers and mistakes are easily made. However, this was only a very minor issue. I received my card in the post shortly after this. I have topped up online and it was a very easy process.
Overall, I am happy with Electric Ireland and I would currently recommend them.

I have had an account for a year with them and haven't received a bill. When I thought this as bizarre I called them. I was told to register online and the system told me it will send me a link to my email address- never received one. If you don't like paying for your electricity these guys are awesome!

EI have made no effort to send me a top up card, despite being a customer of over 6 months and having lost count of how many times I've been promised a card.
Tonight I spent 2 and a half hours trying to top up online, only to find their verification system is down. As a result my power has been cut off and it's sub-zero outside.
Other companies may be more expensive but at least they get up in the morning and make an effort. EI does not care one bit about keeping their customers. I will be leaving as a customer tomorrow after repeatedly being disappointed with the terrible service, and I will also be writing to the ombudsman.
Don't be fooled by their supposedly low rates, they will cut your service off without warning and then shrug their shoulders when you ask them why.
GO WITH LITERALLY ANY OTHER ELECTRICITY SUPPLIER, I'M DEAD SERIOUS.

This company engages in unsolicited and highly inappropriate door to door cold calls, in the middle of a pandemic! Ignoring a 'NO COLD CALLING" sign and without taking the time or trouble to introduce themselves, they kick off by asking intrusive questions as to whose name is on the electricity bill, hoping to fool the elderly and gullible into disclosing details. I'm not a customer, and after this afternoon's cold call, I won't be.
06/11/20 Further to the reply received, their marketing department will already be fully aware that cold calls are a part of their sales model so their feigned apology and invitation to correspond on the matter and disclose further details is laughable. Reported to Trading Standards instead and I would encourage others to do likewise - just send an email to tss@economy-ni.gov.uk

rubbish service, no answer on any lines despite holding for a long time, so sent e-mail to customer services, no reply 2 days later, got through to business side of company today, said he couldn't help but would transfer me to personnel - he did that, then message this number doesn't exist. Rang back eventually somebody picked up who couldn't actually deal with the issue - steer well clear would be my advice....had to click one star to continue, but that's being kind to them......

I have the electric top up metre. It is on the outside of the house so hard to know if it beeps or not for a warning. I heard the beeps from outside the house when the electric cut off completely. No warning. I do usually check my balance but this time unfortunately I did not in time.
I also usually top up over the internet but of course then I had no internet connection. I was lucky I did have some phone data left. Such hassle and having to go outside to top us as well. They could at least give some sort of emergency credit and perhaps e-mail or text warning that it is about to go off. I would not recommend this service.

Do not change to these idiots. Read the reviews. A common tactic of these fools is to undercharge you for months on end. Then by the time you realise - you are required to pay a large bill every month for months upon months to pay off their mistake. The perception is that you won't just 'leave' as a customer because you have a huge outstanding figure. Incompetence or by design, you do not want to fall foul of this. Avoid.

I'm not a customer, and after the cold calling on my doorstep twice now over the last year I won't be. The first time my husband said he wasn't interested to which your cold caller laughed and said 'haha why aren't you interested in saving money? got too much?' to which I told my husband to shut the door because it was getting cold. Tonight I had another caller, knocking on my door while my husband was on an important phone call and I was still working. I explained that now wasn't a good time to which your cold caller said 'it never is a good time for you people is it?' at which point I shut the door. If this is how rude you are to potential customers, god knows what you'd be like if you actually got my money. Maybe try out training your 'house call' staff a bit more, you might have more success if they were polite.

Have been trying to switch to EI since January. Now April. Signed me up for wrong account, and said I had to wait another 28 days to switch. Have asked to raise a complaint, but being fobbed off now because of the lockdown! Finally after over 2 months got issued an account number to allow me to register online, which I did, to now see that I can't access anything to do with my account or even submit meter readings. Wish I'd have read the reviews before switching to this shambles of a company. Currently researching other providers, or might just go back to SSE who I never had any issues with - other than the prices. Definitely DO NOT RECOMMEND this company.

This happens each quarter. they are agressive, don't listen and also the most expensive of the three NI companies. Just switched to new provider today as I have had enough off these tactics.
