I can't say enough good things about the staff here. They are all very welcoming and eager to help. The rooms are private and so close to BC Children's and Safeway.
For the price it was great. Only negative is no air conditioning
Staffs attitude was deplorable, they were less than accommodating and treated you like an inconvenience, the rooms were stifling hot, beds rock solid and my experience with staff post check out terrible... shouldn t have been surprising given the way they behaved while we stayed there.... just incredibly unwilling to help. The inexpensive rate not worth it at all. Not happy.
We have have stayed at Easter Seal House twice now to be able to attend appointments for both our daughters at BC Children's Hospital...Being from Vancouver Island we appreciate Easter Seal House and the service they have provided in regards to location, parking, clean/comfortable rooms and friendly staff...
Easter Seal House is not a Ramada or Holiday Inn and should not be compared as such however we enjoyed our stay and were thoroughly satisfied with it's amenities and we will recommend it to any family needing lodging while visiting BCCH...
Keep up the good work Easter Seals, BC Family Residence Program and Variety Club !
Used to be really good, but lately staff has been difficult and rude. Not sure if it's a management change or what, but it really is disappointing because my family and I had good memories there.
So thankful that easter seal house is available. We've stayed numerous times and are always happy.
Vital service for incredibly I'll patients needing an economic place to stay while undergoing treatment at VGH. In short, a life saver. Thanks to all the staff.
Great place. No air conditioning only reason for less than 5 stars. It w as s 33 degrees outside must have been 40 plus degrees inside
Dislike the fact that the hot water for showers are next to nothing #coldshower, and that they need to add more darkening curtains, room was too warm.
Very pleasant and helpful front desk clerks and management. Nice and clean rooms. Beds are very, very firm.
Been here all of the front desk staff is nice, SOME of the cleaning ladies are deplorable, staff do not take ANY suggestions. Food constantly gets stolen and nothing gets done about it EXAMPLE: Caught a man surveying our food in the public fridge which WAS labeled then when we left the lobby came back and it was stolen after he was holding it and looking at it we reported it to the staff. Nothing done.
Internet is absolutely terrible and despite being sponsored by a huge football team and getting tons of donations I'm sure with a two hundred dollar budget they could upgrade the internet infrastructure to actually be able to reach the rooms. And a simple ISP switch or plan switch could improve the speeds EDIT: The internet is also so bad it cannot reach past the lobby the modems are placed in.
structurally is great and the reception staff were nice, hence the 2 stars. The room was VERY dirty. The surfaces had crumbs, the walls snot and blood splatters, the cups were greasy.
For a place serving families going to BC Children's, that level of hygiene is not acceptable.
Not sure why the disabled room doesn't have a lift, the bed was also horrible to sleep on
It is reasonably priced, comfortable and close to VGH
Poor service. If you don t cooperate with how poorly this place is run you ll be left out on the street. Who in their right mind would leave a child in the cold just because she s related to a guest they didn t like in the past. RIDICULOUS. They are JOKES and should be put out of business.
The staff has always been good and helpful this is not a place to stay if you dont have a medical reason or have someone in hospital it gets me upset when people put it down were can you find a plce so cheep to stay in Vancouver even if you want to stay on hastings will cost you more so be thankful we have a place we can call home away from home when we have are love ones sick or you bening sick if you want a five star hotel then pay the price and go get it i thank the easterseal house for being there for me and my son for the past 13 years
Really good place. Everyone is so nice. Glad we have a place like this to stay
I've been coming to Easter Seal House for well over a decade. Since i was a kid and had to visit BC children's hospital for my scoliosis treatment. Now I come back every few years for appointments at saint Paul's hospital.
Easter seal house is affordable (as a patient they never charge me) the staff are friendly and accommodating. The rooms are fairly spacious with double beds, roll away beds & cribs are available. Each room has a private bathroom, TV, mini kitchenette with plates and such.
Its perfect for families who have to go to BCCH (within walking distance) or for people who have to attend appointments at other hospitals they can Also accommodate people who may be visiting or relatives of patients. it's close to bus stops, not too far from the Canada line (and not that many stops if you're traveling from YVR), the front desk has a taxi calling service plus there's gated underground parking!
Not to mention just a few blocks away there is a strip mall with a Safeway, gas stations, and little cafes and resteraunts.
This place has become a home away from home for me and certainly eased the financial burden of having to travel from the okanagan to get out of region medical care
It's been a long time since I last spent any duration here, but I still remember it to this day. My mother and myself stayed here during my visits to the BC Children's Hospital when I was a young child and a young teenager. I do remember the rooms not being all that special in appearance or in quality of service, but for a kid going through a potentially traumatic experience at a hospital, it makes all the difference in the world. Being able to feel comfort from the surgeries, the time spent isolated, the anesthetics, the numbness, the bandages and the healing, the fear of potentially never waking up again because of an honest mistake or fatal allergic reaction to pain medication, that's what matters to a child.
Especially a disabled child. One who just wants to be home and wants to be around the one person who would always be by the child's side. Easter Seals house, in the two (or maybe three? I don't remember much of my early childhood aside from the visits to the aforementioned hospital) occasions where I could get away from the scariness of the hospital (yes, even the Children's Hospital can frighten a child) and be with the one person who has ever supported me in life, was special just for the reasons I wrote. It may not be of high quality; it may not earn any accolades as a hotel (or whatever you'd classify it as), but for the people it serves it can make the difference.
I also have a lot to thank Lion's Club. They, as well as other sponsors, helped tremendously, including by providing this location for children with disabilities such as my younger self. Groups like these should always get support.
The staff and everyone at Easter Seals House has helped my family with medical trip stays for over 25 years. Their compassion and kindness has been a huge blessing to my family and will always be cherished.
I would give it a higher rating if it were possible
Staying at ESH was the a huge stress relief for our family. The staff went above and beyond to help accommodate us and made us feel welcome.
Room was clean and comfortable..nice little kitchenette. So wonderful to have a place to stay for a medical visit that doesn't break the bank and is so close to Vancouver general hospital. Staff were very friendly and helpful. A great service to the people who need it..A very big Thank you to all involved.
The home away from home...no doubt the best place to be when we need to be at the hospital...the staff is more than accommodating to us..
The people here were so very helpful and kind while my partner myself and our son were there, thank you so much for the kind hospitality
Private kitchens in every room and large shared kitchens on each floor. Close to hospitals.
Easter seal has everything you need. They make your stay extremely Pleasant and helpful.
The only thing you need to do is bring your own pillow.
Nice clean. Quiet. Staff is good. Good distance from childrens hospital.
Although we stayed there when we needed to and we found coverage we realized shortly after we started staying there that there may be problems on the horizon. A young couple that we had met and seemed quite nice was being evicted in the most cruel fashion after enquiring about an engagement ring they felt had been wrongly removed from their room. They where forced to leave without notice or another place to go and there child was in the children's hospital. We were very careful after that not to leave valuables in our room and also tried not to upset the staff because we did not want a similar incident. Eventually our fears where realized when my partner who was pregnant at the time was bit by a bedbug and had an allergic reaction that caused her blood pressure to go dangerously high we had just woken up and she had a welt the size and shape of a golfball under her skin on the back of her leg I though it was a blood clot the homecare nurse showed up a few minutes later and we captured a bedbug and showed it to the nurse and explained what had happened we had to rush immediately to the hospital to get the blood pressure under control and once we returned to the Easter seal house found that our belonging had all been rummaged through we had put little pieces of paper in the drawers and fridge so that if someone went into them the papers would fall as well as setting our bags in such a manner that it would be evident if they had been tampered with. We were forced to leave because we had told our nurse about the bedbugs. That was the reason given to us and we where treated very poorly throughout this process being yelled and screamed at by the manager this was very stressfull for my pregnant partner
Wonderful staff, completely accommodating to our needs. I have to take my toddler to children's hospital every 6-12 months, and I hope to stay with them each trip.
Very good accommodation, rooms very spacious and everything perfectly matched to the needs of wheelchair users.
Won't stay here again. The inexpensive price is not worth the lack of service. In the time we were here (3 days) we saw for different front desk people... The only one who was pleasant was the gentleman on the first night we arrived. The place hasn't been updated in years and now after reading other reviews I'm scared we had stuff stolen when we were out.
Very nice that they have this available. They were Helpful and efficient. The price for the night was spectacular, as expected, and really what we needed on our trip from the northern interior.
This was the most wonderful peaceful place. Really feel at home. Things we needed are close enough. Staff are just wonderful. Would stay here on a heart beat and the price is something else
We were SO thankful for this nice place to stay when our son was badly injured in a motorcycle accident. It is within walking distance of Vancouver General Hospital, and there are grocery stores, gas stations, restaurants and markets close by. The people were very friendly and helpful, and the price is so reasonable. Our room had 2 twin beds, closet and drawers, tv, phone, table, small kitchen area, and our own bathroom. Laundry and common areas plus parking also available.
It is very close to BC children hospital. Basic amenities but meets the objectives...
They have free WiFi a kitchenette and a larger communal kitchen
My go-to place when need to be at the children's hospital
I stayed at the Easter seal house for almost 2 weeks. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The location is great and the room was clean and accommodating. I was extremely lucky to be able to stay here and I m grateful this establishment is available for people who live out of town and have someone in the hospital.
*** Update: Nothing has been done about this. No words can describe how disgusted I am that the employee I had trouble with had lied about everything that happened that evening and is getting away with her actions! Easter Seals House Company, an apology won't change the fact that you left us with my 5-year-old niece outside in the cold. An apology will not change the fact that you would not allow us to stay in your establishment and it certainly will not change the fact that you did not ask for any type of ID for confirmation that he, indeed, was not who you thought he was! AND more training for your employees will not change the way they treat your customers. ***
This all happened November 17,2017 around 5pm
Upon entering The Easter Seals House who claims to be a welcoming home which offers out-of-town families "Home away from home" but do not seem to live up to their moto.
I had reservations to stay ONE NIGHT in this establishment and was rudely turned away by the desk associate who spoke in a discourteous manner because they "disliked a previous family member who had stayed there in the past."
I felt personally attacked and discriminated by this act of selfless behavior that was acted out in front of my 5-year-old niece who had just come out of surgery and after telling us we could not stay she also said that we would not be able to find a hotel and laughed at us.
I proceeded to ask to see a manager and she refused to do so while continuing to smirk and follow us around - even after leaving the building. Leaving us with a, very young, child out in the cold.
I will be following up with a better business bureau complaint against this establishment, in hopes that this situation does not happen to any other family who stays here. I expect to be reimbursed after all the trouble we went through.
Our home away from home when our child has appointments at BCCH.
for those in need of somewhere to stay 'short term' in the event of a child or close family member needing a really short term place to stay near Vancouver General Hospital This is the place
Uncomfortable beds, plumbing didn't work properly, waaay to hot in the room for summertime - not enuf fresh air ventilation.
Secure parking. A small kitchenette and we wouldn't have found anywhere else in the short notice we were under.
The rooms are a little small but it has everything you need including stove top and a few dishes. Reasonably priced for medical stay. Staff are pleasant. Parking available.
I am unfortunately forced to stay here as my child is in the hospital and this is my only opinion. Highly would not recommend, they need new staff or management
Great staff. Good location. Rooms are nice. Huge movie selection. Walking distance to subway. Safeway
This house is very nice. Very comfortable, clean and modern. The staff was helpful and the night guy was especially awesome. He was so kind and accommodating in our stressful time. I have a new respect for Easter Seals. I recommend this place to anyone.
I am so grateful for this place. I have two sons with very bad asthma they dont have asthma specialist in PG so i have to travel down to van every few months or 6 months depending on which doctor we see. They always have very clean rooms wonderful staff . I appreciate this place and all that it offers. I dont know what we would do with out them ! Snachaliya !
A good place to stay when your in the city for family medical needs. Just wish it was cleaner. Everything feels just a bit dirty.
We had a renovated room fully equipped for medical assistance I'm used to seeing in hospitals. Staff were friendly and helpful, and the location to the hospitals is terrific. I can't thank this organization enough for their help with our medical visit to Vancouver and the BC Family Residence Program for funding our stay.
The rooms are a bit worn and dated but it's a great location.
Wonderful stay, friendly staff, clean comfortable rooms.
This place has remained the same over the years. It definitely needs to be refreshed somehow.
