I just had a State Inspection completed on my 2017 Suburban. The nice suprises was that it was free. I have been doing business with Duke for more than 25 years because of excellent customer service.

After driving the vehicle we were interested in we attempted to negotiate the price and our trade allowance. There was a $1k difference with what we asked for and they met us in the middle reducing the price of their vehicle by $500. I decided to think it over and a week later called to have a buyers order drawn up in order to buy the vehicle, I already had a loan. First buyers order had the correct sales price of their vehicle and our trade allowance along with some fees. After going over the numbers before sending it to my bank I noticed that there was a difference of a little over $100 (overcharge). The next day after asking about the difference I was sent another buyers order with an additional $399 difference and told they forgot a processing fee, even though $399 added doesn't explain the $100 difference in the previous buyers order. When asked to define all fees, all fees were explained except this $399 processing fee? The only explanation was "we charge all customers this fee". But no explanation of why? And it was not on the original buyers order? I agreed to pay their price with all the fees that they had defined but not the $399 fee that they could not justify. They told me the used car manager (Bruce) would not accept that.
These types of business practices don't sit well with me so if your looking to buy a used vehicle make sure you check the numbers or as a better choice, shop elsewhere. This may explain the lack of recent reviews for the sales dept. I am also a faithful GM customer and currently own four other Chevrolet vehicles. This would have been the fifth.

They were awesome abd very helpful for my first time service with their company. They tried to do all they could, and very extremely apologetic when they informed me that certain things couldn't be done until warmer weather. It was great that they actually took the time to explaine what was going on, and didn't assume I knew everything about the car. They were very helpful and friendly, and answered all my questions, and there was a lot, without losing their temper. All in all a great experience.

These are nice folks that don't try to give you a bunch of bull when you're buying a car. I found my salesman and the vice-president Eley Duke honest and easy to work with. Even more importantly, the people at the service department and the parts department we're just as nice and efficient. I would highly
recommend this dealer to anyone interested in buying a new car.

My experiences at Duke Chevrolet have been OK. Oil changes and tire Rotations have been the majority of my visits. My last visit wasn't so great. My 3 Year old car had a dead battery. I charged the battery and took it to Duke. The cost of a new battery and positive cable, which they say was defective, was over 800.00. Mr. Eley Duke III and Service Manager Richard Potts worked with me by contacting GM Warranty and they agreed to provide Warranty Assistance and will cover the majority of the costs. Mr. Duke and Mr. Potts went over and beyond and display what Customer Service is all about. Thank you very much.

Good people, great service. I bought my truck at another dealer in Sept, the sales dept there was good, service was below acceptable, that's why I'm here. The problem with my brand new vehicle was diagnosed and repaired within 48 hrs.
Friendly, honest and helpful, I wish I would have purchased my truck from Duke!!

We just bought our 5th vehicle from Jim Caruthers in 13 years. I can't say enough about the buying experience. We had bought another vehicle from a different dealer about 3 years ago, and it was painful. The staff at Duke is knowledgeable and extremely helpful and you feel like family when you walk in. If you are looking for a dealer close to home that will bend over backwards to help you out, stop looking, you have found them. I was able to agree to a price on the phone at about 11 in the morning and drove off with my car after spending 30 minutes with the staff to complete all of the paper work. You can't go wrong with this dealer or sales team.

The service shop at Duke is always busy. But that is case with any business that gives good service. When you have your appointment they ask exactly what you need done, so they know how much time to allot to your problem. This allows them to service more of those who are calling for an appointment. If you find that you have another issue when you come in they try to fix that also. Sometimes they can't because of the time allotted but they always will set another appointment and will not let you leave with an issue that makes it unsafe to drive.

I had been to many other dealerships in Hampton Roads. Some didn't even listen to what I wanted and others weren't very friendly. Frankly, I was frustrated and almost tired of shopping. I stopped at this dealership after work with my dad thinking they were closed just to look at some cars. I had no idea what I wanted. I had a pre-approved check in my purse ready to buy something. We started walking around and to our surprise Thomas came out to greet us. He was friendly and pleasant right off the bat! I told him I was looking for an automatic with four doors and my budget. He showed me some cars within my budget. I wasn't a fan. Then he showed me around the dealership a little more. He was very personable and easy going which made it nice to talk to. We found a few cars I liked, but they were a little more than I originally planned on spending. I wasn't completely ready to say yes yet. I left for the night to think things over. The next day I had one of the cars Thomas showed me stuck in my head, so I did a little research because it was a newer model I didn't know much about. Coincidentally, Thomas ended up calling me with a sale price on the car and invited me in to take a test drive. When I came in for the test drive, he was again just as nice as could be. No surprise, I loved the car! Then we went in to do some paperwork. They took all my information and started the buying process. He made it easy and simple for me. I went to my bank to change financing plans, meanwhile Ricky had my previous pay stubs trying to find me the best interest rate he could. He actually found me a better rate than my own bank gave me! I talked to Thomas and Ricky a bunch for a few days. They were great to work with since my hours were limited because I worked late. It was nice not to be rushed. I did my final paperwork with Eley. He was extremely polite! It was quick and easy to finish everything and get to take home my new car. Thomas made sure I knew everything about my new car and answered all my questions. He even got the license plates I wanted and a price on a roof rack I wanted for later. They were a very accommodating team! It was nice to work with very nice and down to earth people! I would recommend them to anyone I knew looking to buy a vehicle.

My Sales Consultant is Mr. Steve Fowler. I first met him while I was on a walk-around on the DUKE parking lot and he told me to take my time and that he will be available for questions at anytime and also offered to access me to get inside, or drive one if I wished. He was knowledgeable of the 2500HD Trucks and EXTREMELY approachable and professional. I'm 52 yrs old and he is the type of sales person that "I" feel comfortable with - NOT pushy, anxious, or annoying in any way. I had already been to seven other dealers (Dodge, Chevy, and Ford) in the Hampton Roads region. I liked the GMC Sierra Diesel and told Steve F. what my budget bottom line was. He helped me to find what would ultimately be my choice to purchase - but I wanted to ensure I wasn't making any mistakes, so I left to review consumer reports and make any other final looks at other trucks. The next day I returned with my wife and he accommodated us for a test-drive of the truck - then answered another hours-worth of our questions and I told him I'm still looking at ALL other trucks in the region (He respected that and said he'd be in-touch in a couple days). He contacted me via phone 2-days later and gave me a price for the GMC Truck that I test drove (first time that's happened for me without a 2-hour brow beating from sales managers). I came back to Duke Chev. again after seeing easily over 100 vehicles through the other dealers and for the first time, let my Trade-in be Estimated. Then Steve F. did what I have never experienced in my 11 previous new car purchases... he took my price request to Ely Duke and Bruce Blythe, and they BETTERED my request by $1,700.
They could have easily held up their price to my quoted bottom line, but they actually (as a team) bettered my bottom line, AND THEN when I told them my financing would be 1.99%, through my Credit Union, they found a financier at an even better rate of 1.49%.
Even if it weren't for the price, I give Team (Duke) A++ for friendliness, general courtesy, and respect to their "potential" client to shop the market - and return if they so decide. Steve Fowler possesses the Sales Consultant skill that I personally require to conduct business when spending over 50K on a diesel truck. There are so many choices out there and I feel that I got the best truck through the best salesman on the best team. I walked away after signing feeling GREAT, and not mentally beaten-up as in so many new vehicle purchases before.

Duke delivers outstanding service and excellent results. The experience was positive because of Tommy, one of the service managers. His status calls were clear and he was well prepared. Tommy was patient and professional throughout the process. I usually break out in hives going to a dealership. Duke is different. I will return! Thank you.

Kind and courteous staff was able to get me in same day for my oil change and tire rotation. Roomy and clean waiting area with water, coffee and snacks, with a good assortment of magazines of various interest and tv. Also a couple of desk for laptops, and multiple charging stations for devices, plus wifi. I was in and out within an hour. I would also recommend Duke for a good new car buying experience. Bought my first new car from them in '04 and they were terrific.

After watching my service light reminder for 2 weeks, I made a last minute call to Duke Automotive s Service Center to get the oil changed and tires rotated on my GMC Yukon Denali. My service technician greeted me promptly on the phone and asked how they could help. She offered me several service appointments for later that day but I settled on one for the next morning. I dropped off my vehicle an hour early and they had back to me within 2 hours - ready to roll! Great service, friendly employees - all in a locally owned dealership!

The service was good. However I was told there is a 3+% service charge when customers now use a credit card. Seems odd when many other businesses are encouraging customers to use cards due to lesser chance of spreading the Covid-19 virus. Also I , as many customers use credit cards in order to better track our business expenses. That's reason for 4 in 2nd question... I purchased last 2 vehicles (Surburban LTZ and High Country Silverado) from other Dealers due to Duke being so far higher than a number of other dealers I went to check before making these purchases. Now I find they are charging me to use my credit card. Guess I need to look at others for this as well!

I have to say that my buying experience with Duke Automotive and Jerry Butler was the best ever. Jerry is professional, knowledgeable, friendly and thorough. Before taking my Tahoe home, Jerry took me to "school" and showed me how everything worked. Even though the sale has been finalized, I look forward to continuing the business relationship with routine maintenance, inspections and customer service. It was time to replace my 13+ year old car, and Jerry took great care of me. He was very patient with me throughout the process - dealing with all my mind changes from new sporty car to new truck to new suv, and finally to used sporty car! It was clear that he was looking out for MY best interest throughout all of it. It is always great to work with hometown people who WANT to help - not just because it's a job & that's what they are supposed to do. And the folks at Duke are absolutely those wonderful hometown people!

It has been mostly a pleasurable experience doing business with the service department at Duke. Rick Fleming usually greets me at my vehicle when I drive up for a service visit and always keeps me informed about the status of the work being performed on my vehicle. Even the owner, Mrs. Duke, frequently visits the service department to personally thank the customers for their business. We've entrusted Duke with performing maintenance and service on our GM vehicles for several years now and look forward to continuing that relationship.

After emailing Mike Williams and Steve Albaugh, I drove from Williamsburg to Suffolk to look at a Ford Ranger Saturday morning. Steve emailed me Thursday confirming date and time with me. I called Saturday morning to let Steve know traffic was bad and we were running late. We get down to the dealership after a 2 hour drived and find out that neither Steve no Mike are working and the truck was sold Friday night.

When my wife and I went to Duke Automotive looking for a truck we were promptly greeted and the car salesman asked us what we were looking for in a truck and how it would be used. He showed us some trucks that would best fit our life style and price range and then gave us time to ourselves to look around. There was no pressure to buy and the salesman was polite and was available for any questions that we might have. We chose a truck that we wanted to test drive. While test driving the truck the salesman was very knowledgeable about all of features and mechanics of the truck. We loved the truck and the purchasing process was easy and seamless. It was the first time in my life that I actually enjoyed the whole process of a new automobile purchase. 5 star rating for this dealership and the salesman!

Recently I bought a new 2017 Buick Lacrosse. GM had a great incentive deal on this car. The Duke salesman did a great job explaining things to us. The trade-in value for my car was lousy. I had gone to three different dealers that week and Duke's trade-in value was by far the lowest. I had my car always serviced at Duke and figured that they would value the car a bit more since they had taken care of it. Apparently, the Duke salesmen don't think much of their service department's work. The Lacrosse is really nice, I did a lot of research on the Lacrosse and it has a nice smooth ride and is very quiet inside. Since the 2017 model is a new design, be careful if you've done research on the 2014-2016 model, some things are different that you may or may not like.

UPDATE 2014 Unfortunately I'm unable to write a new review so I had to add on to the old reveiw below. We had a baby back in 2013 so we needed to upgrade to a larger vehicle from the ATS. We worked with another dealership first and they basically jerked us around. So we decided to go back to Duke and within 2 hours we purchased a new 2015 Malibu. I can't ask for better service. Once again thanks and we will definitely buy again.

First off I want to say WOW!!! If you look for a family oriented dealer that pays attention to what the customer wants then you should go see the friendly staff of Duke Automotive in Suffolk, VA. From the moment we started corresponding via email with Christy Brinkley we fell in love with this dealer. Christy answered every question we had and was very prompt when responding to emails. She is awesome. There wasn't a dealer within 500 miles that could beat the customer service or price Duke quoted us on our new 2013 ATS. Richard Strong, Bruce Blythe, Jerry Butler, and Eley Duke were very easy to work with and they made the ordering, sales, updates, and delivery of our vehicle a breeze. We highly recommend Duke to anyone looking for a new vehicle. They actually made the car buying experience FUN!!! We already have plans to get a new vehicle and we will definitely buy from them again.

Was looking for a nice reliable used car that was at a certain price range to keep at my payment..
I had been checking websites of all car dealers within 20 miles of Suffolk.. Found about 7 different vehicles that peaked my interest, so talked to a friend of mine and recommended Dukes Chevrolet Buick in Suffolk.
I went there and was greeted by a very enthusiastic young man, Mr Nick. I explained what I was looking for and told him I was pre-approved... He showed me the ones from Dukes I was interested in. Git the 2017 Malibu, but couldn't get the numbers I wanted on it. Nick tried to pull numbers and lowered it for me but as I said I had a pre-approved amount and hard as he tried I wasn't satisfied.
So I said thank you and was sorry we couldn't work it to my satisfaction, course you know what happened next, they asked did it have to be that specific car, I said no I was looking at price, mileage, history, payment with everything included.. So he talked with Mike and Steve.. He said he had a few others in the range of all my criteria, So showed me about 4 others..
We found a 2017 Nissan Altima SV within the mileages and clean history..
Then Nick went and explained that we found what I was looking for, boom was over my pric criteria. Nick had the team at Dukes check numbers for him and thanks to Nick and the team at Dukes Chevrolet Buick in Suffolk I got what I needed and drove away very satisfied...
If you are looking for new or used vehicle, I would recommend Nick, he was extremely helpful, very courteous, very respectful to me and my wife... or any other great team members at Dukes of Suffolk.

Duke did a great job of making an appointment that suited my schedule, use of the shuttle services to/from work, and having the work completed within the stated time frame. Only concern is the cashier did not offer any type of discount eligibility when paying the final bill. On a positive note, the employees were courteous and professional and I trust them to take care of my car!! Thanks Lou

Just purchased our 6th and 7th vehicles with Duke... over the last month we brought home a 2014 Silverado LT and a 2013 Traverse LTZ . As always, Jim Caruthers was his helpful self and made the vehicle search/purchase process as easy as walking in the door. Don Kelly is without a doubt the best finance manager I've ever dealt with, making the paperwork process painless and enjoyable. For my money, the Duke Sales Team is the best in Hampton Roads.
Ashley Thompson in Service called first thing the next morning to make sure I was aware the Silverado needed a fuel management system software update and arrange a convenient time to bring it in for that update. We combined this service with having a bedliner sprayed in and paint sealant applied, all completed in 24 hours and delivered to us as promised. While they were getting the work done, Duke supplied us with a 2014 Malibu as a loaner, not an older model trade-in - great car!

Highly recommend the Duke Automotive dealership to any and all in the market for a new GM vehicle. They are first rate in all aspects of the automobile business.

Our experience with Duke Automotive/Suffolk, VA was excellent on the two visits we made to purchase a vehicle. We had heard good reports about Duke, and had done our research online prior to visiting the dealership. We found all the positive comments about the organization to be accurate: customer-oriented, trustworthy, knowledgeable and well organized. Highly recommend. We will return.
