This could possibly be the worst airport in the world.

I just suffered a cancellation and a 2 hour delay on the same freaking flight!
Airport personnel was absent: absolutely no info given (In fact, I don't know even now the reason for the cancellation), no water, no food, no information whatsoever on what you need to do when they send you to immigration... Flight was cancelled at 7PM, 22PM they didn't even started sending people to hotels...

And cherry on the cake, on my fligh back, with the 3h+ between flights, they managed to lose my luggage...

I will say this airport probably has better custom service in China compare to other airport in smaller cities. But the major flaws of any airport in China is there always will have misleading signs to tell you where to go and then lead you to some strangle place. they really need to work on those sign to be more user friendly. (I am feeling sorry for those who cannot use google maps in China so they cannot do reviews for this airport.)

UPDATE: I am changing my review from 4 stars to 3 stars because of those gross restrooms.

Horrible experience, business security path closed after 22:00, huge cues , better arrive earlier. No priority check on passport control as well.

Flown through here twice, back in April 2010 and January 2017. Both times my experience was good, though the lines at customs were long and the need to board buses to and from the aircraft was inconvenient. There was a wide variety of services available in the international terminal, which was very welcome. Like most Chinese airports, however, the free WiFi sucked.

For work i had to travel to Shanghai, i was overwhelmed by the size of the airport. But it's really beautiful.

Sure enough, Shanghai is a city that must be seen.
This time we are flying directly from Kaohsiung, so only the peripheral Pudong can choose, thinking about taking a look at the maglev train anyway~

I have to go to the airport to do the maglev train and have to go a long way. From the second terminal to the first terminal, the passengers who have tickets for the maglev train in the past have a discount of 50 RMB. 40 Remember to take the initiative to show that the Chinese will not ask you. Many. (No ticket can be used to show the booking record)
Only one stop back and forth 8 minutes is very fast.

Harassed by an iPhone Salesman at the entrance. There is no baggage transfer here either so avoid it. No one speaks English properly. 3 people at a desk to do a 1 man job. Flying into Shanghai looks like you are flying into a rural place. Avoid this at all costs. Cathay ground staff are also useless.

I had a transfer at this airport and it was hell. Service is very slow, disorganised, unhelpful and staff isn't always very proficient in English. I will avoid it next time. Only good thing: food inside the terminal is great and cheap.

This is my first time traveling Shanghai. What a large city in China! What an International airport without international support or qualify! i.e. languages or service. ground staff were rude, unfriendly, unhelpful, they won t answer you if you speak English or other languages, they expect all of you speak Mandarin when you traveling their country.

I went on a transit from Narita to Xi'an.
I smashed the time for about 6 hours, but it's also very difficult for the flat escalator to walk in one direction.
I was saved because there was a convenience store and Famima, but I was unable to use the yen and I bought a card.
On the way back, it was helpful to use up the remaining source.
Panda shop is a smaller store than I thought. (The number of lonely shops)
There are few stores to eat, and come and go.
There was a massage machine in the unusual private room BOX, but there are only 2 pieces and coins? Was not available at.
After all, I read a book, had a snack and killed time.
There are many toilets and they are beautiful.
It was interesting that the Chinese people brought water bottles (without plastic bottles) and there were several hot water heaters at the airport, and they saw a procession for hot water.

AC087 was an awesome because it was very high so I could see many things that I can't count

I have long lay over at this airport. The airport is quite huge for international airport...but the worst is we can not have wifi unless you buy local sim card.
And China has banned FB, Whatsapp,or Ytube..
If you feel hungry or need to have warm meal..you can go to Family mart and buy POP Noodle..the cheapest noodle I can get..and you can get hot water around the boarding gate

This chinese guy trying to sell us a fake i phone X. There are many people like him in the airport who sell fake phones there is no one to catch them here.. worst experience ever... hate this...

Getting through security here takes forever, leave very early! It took me 2 hours to board an international flight. This could be arraigned better, you feel like cattle.

The Airport is okay. The Airport Asian/Chinese food is okay. The Airport Burger King was a little different from what I get in the USA. The bacon was like thin ham lunch meat. The Mc Donald s in the Beijing Airport is better because the food is just like the food in the USA.

Probably the worst airport on earth. Had to wait half a day in limbo for a connecting flight. Nobody speaks English and cares for anyone that isnt Chinese. Try not to fly via China or with Chinese carriers ever, you will regret it. Absolute chaos, not worthy an International airport

The airport is pretty new and huge. They have these kiosks which helped to collect thumb print of visitors, and collect all the prints of both hands, not just your thumb. The clearance for immigration seems short handed for foreigners, so expect some queue. For unknown reasons some of the door exits are closed and that s kind of inconvenient.

I can't rate this airport as yet but so far I'm nervous about all the comments as I am traveling soon from Toronto to shanghai stop over and then onward to Thailand Bangkok with China eastern airlines MU flights, after reading the reviews I'm wondering if I made a big mistake by choosing this vacation spot instead of Australia.
If anyone has traveled from Toronto to shanghai and onward to Thailand please fill me in on what to look out for as I maybe the only brownie on flight and I'm not use to be treated differently. Thanks everyone.

Airport is very decent food is readily available. More staff should be adequately taught in englishto face tourist. Definitely room for improvement.

Good Airport, but toilets are not managed properly. People hardly understand English here. Need proper help desk for English speakers. I had trouble to go from International Arrival to Domestic departure. Finally got a security guard, who help me with the help of technology. He use English to Chinese translation in his mobile and answered all my queries.

This just happened 3min ago. I am in Terminal 2 international departure, past the security check point. I was about to return my wireless router and connect to the airport wifi. There is supposed to be free Wi-Fi with passport and ticket. I was told to head to counter D75 then I was told that a China mobile number is required to use free Wi-Fi.
I asked what about the tourist.
The customer service staff said, you sort it out yourself.
This is Shanghai, one of the most developed city in China.

strange airport, I asked the airport clerk but cant speak English, it was difficult to find food when the flight was early morning, and the officer had confiscated my passport without being given an explanation because they were language barrier :(

The food was delicious but the price was high. After that, souvenirs were expensive, but it is a good airport.

As a Shanghainese, it is fair to say that Pudong Airport has good infrastructure, good service staff attitude, clean bathroom, fast wifi, etc. But the commercial aspect is inferior to some big airports in Japan, such as the New Chitose Airport, which I go to most often. It is a place where you can go to play for a day even if you don t take a plane. I hope that Pudong Airport will one day be like this.

Staff, services, facilities, behaviour, cleanliness, etc every thing superbly managed.

I love this airport, its very big and i enjoyed. Lots of drinking water available as well as free wifi and electric plug. Clean rest room maintenanced well.

The best airport I ve been to. Well organized, informative, simple and easy.

Flights are often delayed. Food options are limited.

Great time with family in Shanghai via Pudong international Airport

The overall service quality is very good. The ground floor answers the questions in detail. For those who are inconvenient, or other people who need help, they can help as much as possible. The attitude is very friendly, just like other international airports.

Huge airport so I needed time to get around, but the airport really does have everything you need. Love China!

Pros: Big, bright, clean, lot of electricity outlets.
Cons: Smelly washrooms, Wifi kiosk tickets not working, expensive Boing Hotspot!

Shanghai Pudong Airport is very far from the center of Shanghai. It takes 14 stations and an hour and a half to arrive by subway. It is inconvenient for people and there is no better construction nearby. Only one airport always departs 4 hours early to avoid traffic jams Speechless, the construction of the plant is full of gas, but the security check is too long, and it can't stand the poor efficiency.

The airport is reasonably large, but the security is quite noisy.
A soldier with a gun? Was standing normally.
Be careful when you try to take a picture, so be careful (If you are mistakenly suspected as a spy, you will not be punished)
The information board has little information, and if you are not used to it, you may get lost.

It is newer, bigger and more convenient than Hongqiao Airport. There is an airport station in the middle of T1 and T2, where you can use the linear trains and subways. It may be hard to find a limousine bus stop, but if you go to Longyang Road, a bus is also recommended. It's about 10 minutes to Longyang Road and 40 minutes by bus. It's cheap on subway line 2, but it may be quite painful to stop at each station. There are many restaurants and convenience stores on the premises. Souvenirs are expensive, so you might want to buy them at Nanjing West Road or Carrefour in the city. You can kill as much time as you want. Hongqiao Airport is boring if you have a long waiting time.

Great airport, Very big and it wasn't to busy when we were there. No complaints here. everything is easy to find.

I have been to this airport a lot! I often fly to Shanghai so I'm always ending up here. Its one of the better international airports I have the pleasure on flying to on a regular basis.

It's a very well laid out airport, it is not hard at all to navigate your self around. Staff are very helpful and have a good knowledge of English so I've never ran into a problem. The metro link from Shanghai Pudong airport to the city centre is fantastic! Its quick, easy and very cheap to get into the city centre.

My only complaints would be the waiting time though immigration is often longer then many other Chinese airports I fly too and the toilets are never clean. Also be careful of scams! Late at night especially when walking around the airport people will come up to you offering taxi to Shanghai or hotels ... these are scam artists! Please do be very careful.

I entered China through Shanghai airport and couldn't be happier. My baggage was all there when I landed and the customs process was quick.

Huge, well connected to the city by the Maglev train (by metro or taxi it takes a geological era to arrive).
English language not very popular among the staff, but the basic things you can do, I would advise you to be careful of the period if you have a flight leaving in the morning, there may be delays due to fog.

We were here on a layover to Seoul, getting into country the people are just rude, than when we got our luggage, and got into country people wouldn't leave my girlfriend alone because she was white to get a hotel. Shanghai's pollution level is crazy bad, what I thought was fog was actually smog.
We bought drinks inside the airport to take onto the plane, a lady tells us that we can take them in. When we got on the plane, I see chinese people bring in drinks, I really hated the airport, people, and the whole experience.

You have to leave the country and then re-enter when you make a connection.

Shanghai's mostly international airport. Efficient. All that you can expect from a large international airport. Getting dated.

Anyway everything is slow. Software is not catching up with hardware.

The platform of China Eastern Airlines is too far. Moreover, I was surprised that the place of departure procedure was leaked and some of it could not be used. I think that security may be good.

Simple, furnished, very wide and clear indications for international tourists.

There are delay and congestion, so it is better to see more time in transit. It is awkward because the departing customer and the transfer customer will be together.

Airport clean and modern - no question. BUT from 24:00 almost all shops are locked. The identity checks are disorganized, otherwise I can not explain it to me that people do not say that they should take the belt - the opposite is the case so that it takes a long time nice. Although it is a beautiful airport, there are few smoking areas.

Really disappointing. Lack of shops and facilities. Nothing to spend your time in the terminal. Security check is super annoying as with all the other airports in china, umbrellas, external batteries, ipads have to be taken out... Just boring. I can t believe that this is an airport in Shanghai!

Large airport, well signposted in English, well connected to the city, I used the train. The attention of the staff is very satisfactory.
It was my first contact with China and it was 5 stars

One of the largest Airports of China, well connected with all kinds of Public Transport from the terminal itself. One should not miss to take Magnetic Levitation Train (Maglev) from Airport terminal to City Centre Longyang station, a 34 Km journey covered in 7 Minutes @ 430 Km per hour (between 3pm- 4,30 pm) non stop without any hassles. A memorable journey, only of its kind in the world.

This airport is not very good but is still better than some Chinese airports .

This is a review for the VIP Lounge 135B in the airport - you guessed it near gate 135. Accessible through Priority Pass. Recommended. Very friendly and gracious service in a well maintained lounge. Decent selection of food and drinks. Fresh noodle bar was great. Loved the selection of hot food at the buffet. Beer in the fridge and other beverages available self serve.

Super rude to foreigners. Had times where they kick us out of the airport over night for a 6 hour layover and also had a 12 hour layover where they wouldn t allow us to leave the airport.

While the airport is pretty modern and impressive, it is the other things that drag down the overall rating. For starters it is very far away from the city center. Both the metro and taxis take forever (and if you arrive very late it is actually difficult to get a taxi in the first place) and while the maglev is fast, it ends somewhere in the suburbs far from where most people would like to go.
In order to get something from the vending machines all over the departure area you need to have a Chinese smartphone, credit cards and cash do not work.
And finally the terminal buildings are some of the longest in the world which means that you often have to walk a very long time in order to reach the gates.

The airport is large and has many users, but for some reason the airport is not lively.
