Impressive airport and the newer terminal 2 is really nice. Staff attitude and helpfulness has really improved over the years. My last visit when leaving my toddler son was very upset going through customs and they did everything to help when it was found I had only been given my sons tickets getting them sent over while I conforted my son. Very appreciative of their help and understanding. Thankyou.

Like a lot of Chinese architecture, the airport is absolutely stunning from a form perspective but it s purpose it s completely practical. None of the thoughtful personal touches like you might get elsewhere (Seoul, HK etc). Nonetheless, it s infinitely times better than Beijing especially the transit visa line which actually has a queue and only takes 20 minutes instead of 3 hours. There s plenty of space to stretch your legs and security on the way out takes ages so give yourself ample time

This Aero port is very nice inside with amazing architecture on its roofs and shops, they are a bit disorganized with their flight tables since the Gate numbers do not appear in them. The tsa of this airport is a little hostile care.

It s huge airport and looks nice a lot of shops to hang around when you have transit flight but the only thing which is not fair, it is says about WiFi its free but doesn't work and tell you to buy from the office, it is not fair they saying its free in that case I am very disappointed, also in 90% of customer services are not friendly, they treat you like pieces of "trash". I don't recommend this airport., if you can choose any other choose different one. Only I give 2nstars as it was very clean there.

As for souvenirs, you can only buy Godiva chocolates at duty-free shops, so I think it's better to buy them at department stores in the city.
Please note that smokers can pick up the lighter at the body check.

Took my first flight from PVG more than a decade ago, but it had become subpar as of when I took a flight here in June 2016. First of all, the hallway was so crowded and noisy with irrelevant music (noise!) blasting out of entertainment big screens. Please lower the volume of those propaganda/entertainment stuff! Second, getting the free wifi at the airport is a pain in the ass! You must either have a Chinese cell phone number to receive password via sms or get password physically from a handful of terminals. How silly this is! If the airport really wants to control the wifi usage, they could just offer free wifi 30 minutes at a time. Last, I took the flight from Shanghai to Chicago and had to take a shuttle bus packed with passengers of my boarding group for 5+ minutes to our large airplane just to climb up all the stairs from the ground. It's okay to arrange this for small planes, but totally not good for a 747 airplane! The airport infrastructure and planning should be significantly improved for the increasing number of visitors to Shanghai. Finally, as a proud Shanghainese (born and raised) who has traveled extensively in the U.S., Europe, and Asia, I'm sad to say PVG is falling behind in terms of infrastructure and service.

Ticket said be at the airport 2 hours prior to the flight, I was there 2.20 before and missed my flight.
Endless lines just to get into the airport, again at check in, then at passport control and finally security.
No help from the staff, who said I should have been here earlier.
You need 3-4 hours to reach your flight.

Had a five hour layover in the airport. IMO nothing worked properly in the airport. The gate agent gave me no directions on how to get to the location of my next flight which happened to be through a tunnel on the other side of the airport. There are two airport Wi-Fi services which I could not connect to and neither could other passengers. I was hoping to have a great meal during my layover. The food was poor and expensive, which was a real disappointment. Moreover, I was asked by a person of authority where was I going and when was I leaving. I didn't bother answering his second question which I took great offense too. I was sitting in a chair looking at my phone like all the people around me.

Great facility matching the standard of a metropolitan city. Thought the navigation will be difficult, but English signage's was enough to reach the immigration facility.
Just outside the immigration gate in the arrival area, Pre-activated sim card can be bought which is ready to use.
Connected via multiple mode of transportation to reach any part of the city. Be it subway, maglev, bus or taxi

In transit via Fukuoka to london. Process was very easy and well signed in English. Might have got lucky with my times as no queue at all through in 20 minutes.
Staff were doing their job and got help in English when needed. Dont find them rude just brazen and not Wetern.
China Eastern seats were comfortable and leg room akin to klm premium which was good as id asked for and thought i had exit seat, seems thats exclusive to locals!! Or those with Chinese currency.

The price is also cheaper than the duty-free shop, and the shop near the shop is cheaper, and the big shopping mall in Shanghai is cheaper. Some tax exemptions are okay during alcohol.

Nothing special. We passed through on our way to NZ. The immigration officers are a disgrace. Almost no knowledge of the English (let alone German) language (on an "international" airport) and a tone/ behaviour which reminds of former communist dictatorships. On the next journey to NZ i will definitely choose a different route.

Super huge international airport (it seems to be 1.4km). Some airlines have to walk all the way to the edge, which takes a lot of time.
The boarding procedure (at least JAL) could not be done mechanically, and there was a long line. If you have a JAL gold card, it will be on the priority line, so it is recommended.
Near the JAL boarding gate (Terminal 1), there is a first class lounge called "No. 37" that can be entered with a priority pass. However, there is no special feeling so far, and the atmosphere is similar to that of a Japanese card lounge.
The lounge in Terminal 2 seems to be wider and cleaner, so if you want to spend a lot of time at the airport and want to spend time in the lounge, it would be better to use the ANA affiliate.

An excellent airport with great service from the staff. The new terminal (terminal 2) is very clean and modern, with lots of natural light and open space. The check-in and immigration formalities were pretty fast and efficient. The first/business class lounge near gate 69 is not the best but does the job.

Missed my flight. Clean, huge and high ceiling airport with clean restrooms. Like it but got confusing instructions from airport personnel. One major issue, nobody speaks English. They need to hire english speaking personnel. Luckily, the airline rebooked my flight without additional fees. From arrival, i have less than 2 hours through immigration, baggage claim and then exit to domestic then re check in. Did a lot of running but at the desk, was told close; hence, rebooking. Staffs at china eastern were accommodating but not friendly except for this one guy at baggage check who tried to explain to me my situation. Will fly again but must have long hours between flights; may be at least 3 hours.

How do you review an airport when there is no avoiding this place for travelers coming in from overseas? Having said that, this airport is big, clean and serves as a good gateway to other parts of China. Delays into and out of the airport are very common. Avoid tight connections at all costs. Expect delays

Check-in is completely disorganized and extremely inefficient.
There are no kiosks. Even if you have no bags to check-in you have to waste a ton of time in the line with everyone else. They get in very late, so you're standing around in a line with no workers.
Hainan has different lines both labeled "international", but one is for Hong Kong and the other is for actual international. The signs don't make this clear at all.
WiFi is complete garbage. They want either your cell number or for you to go to a "WiFi kisosk" to get a code.
No alcohol sanitizer after fingerprint scanner usage.

This airport is real oppressive. As soon as you get in you see how dirty it is. Signs everywhere saying "No pictures" "quiet. No talking" If your not from singapore or germany and you plan on staying more than one night at a hotel they want you to pay hundreds of dollars for a visa. If you overstay your one nighter, they remind you of the $5000 fine. Don't fall for the sharks who try to hook you up with a taxi. After a few minutes of the two eployees arguing with each other, the driver agreed to load our bags into the trunk. Our taxi was 500 yuan. Which was $100! The hotel was 15 to 20 minutes away from the airport and our driver was lost. He had no clue, taking us in circles and checking his phone GPS for almost two hours! UGH! Never again will I pass through China. Avoid Shanghai airlines. They use older Boeing 737 jets and their flights are packed like a can or sardines with dangerously overloaded carry on luggage compartments. Their planes are not properly pressured when in flight and your ears will be paying for it. Be careful not to get caught with your phone on while flying on china/shanghai airlines. AIRPLANE MODE is not allowed and if they see the screen on the flight crew will point at you and tell how that violates chinese law! Taiwan and Japan were excellent. China sucks!!! The security leaving China was just as bad as entering. Be ready to show your passport and boarding pass and have your bags x-rayed several times before they let you leave. For some reason they dont like it when you leave your umbrella in your carry on bag before it gets scanned. They damaged my zipper when they opened up my bag. A guy in front of me was scolded by security because he didnt have a departure card properly filled out. When it was my turn i wanted to push that red blinking smiley face with the frown to indicate that the procedure took too long and that I wasn't happy with the service. But there was a fear that it might signal a response team to question me in a back room somewhere. I just wanted to leave asap. The Wi-Fi here does not work and the airport staff are some of the unfriendliest people that i have ever encountered. Some of the passengers gave the finger to pudong as we were taking off. NEVER AGAIN

Most beautiful airport of the world . It is wonderfully maintained. Facilities at excellent. This airport situated in Pudong mostly serves international flights . It is a hug for Air China , China Eastern Airlines. It is ought to be one of the busiest airports of world . This is world's third busiest cargo airport and ninth busiest passenger airport. It has connections to all part of the world .

Stayed here for a 7 hour layover from Vancouver, Canada to New Delhi, India. Not much choices in terms of eating out and restaurants. Only one western food choice ("Starbucks"). Laughable they call themselves an international airport when staff can barely speak any english. Staff seem to treat foreigners like cattle during customs and security lines barking out orders at people. Staff do not seem to be happy to be there; barely any of them smile. A kind of depressing feel to the airport. Kinda reminds me of soviet Russia in the 60's. However, the one thing I did like was that the airport was clean. But I will try to avoid this airport in future.

One of the biggest airports in the world. Compared with LHR it is more spacious, clean and tidy. A similar airport would be the DHO.
They have a train service to move from one terminal to other which is more efficient.
Unlike LHR, atmosphere inside the airport is calm. Terminal one have lounge access to certain customers. Drinking water supply/washrooms all over the airport. Also you can get a good clear view of runways almost everywhere you go because of the big glass wall structure of the airport.
One down side Is the there aren't much places to eat. I only saw One Tim Horton shop in entire airport. Lot of chinese food stalls are there serving local delicacies. Unfortunately most of their menu is in mandarin and non of the staff can speak english. so you need to make and extra effort to get what you need. Food is ok though. You can pay by cash or credit card in these shops. I ordered rice and chiken from sunrise restaurant and it was delicious.
Most of the duty free section is allocated for beauty products by sunrise shopping chain.
Images added here is in terminal 1.

It is the main hub for China Eastern Airlines and Shanghai Airlines. High recommended take the Maglev train to the airport. If you show your boarding pass, can get 20% discount (40 CNY).

I haven't been to a lot of airports but this is one of the worsts I've been to. Not all the staff can speak English which I think is a problem considering it's an international airport. Every time I seek help, I get ignored or at most, a shrug. It's also the first airport I've been to without an ATM; it's a bit inconvenient. We unfortunately had a layover here for more than 12 hours and their wifi at that time was down. No one seemed to fix it and when I asked about it on the counter, no one would talk to me. One good thing though is it's not that busy (at least those times I've been there).

These people are always so helpful in this airport. They really have a huge volume to get through at any given time and they keep pushing to make it happen. China is definitely on top of crowd management and this airport is no exception. Make sure you use the bathroom behind security as it's difficult to find one after you get off the plane and to luggage. Learned that one the hard way.
