It was my first experience with this lovely gem on Davie - I had ordered a lunch for 3 of us and asked Sharv to just put together a variety of choices - WOW! We were SO pleased with the selection and the flavours were wonderful!! Will be choosing this eatery again!!
The best south Indian food in downtown Vancouver. The owner/chef is always at the restaurant to welcome guests. Masala dosas and the vada are the best.
Shrav makes a personal connect with all his guests.. the ghee dosa and rasam is a must try... he hails from the heart of TamilNadu in India.. and you can get a taste of Tamil Nadu... friendly folks and a nice cozy place. Drop by for a quick bite.
great ambience and food... owner is friendly, flirtatious, and extremely charismatic.
I am South Indian and know a good dosa and sambar when I eat one. This place is legit. The dosas, sambar, vada and chutneys are authentic and home style. I.e. there is no layer of oil floating on top of the sambar like in North Indian places. I talked to the owner and chef and they are both very friendly and focused on customer service. Staff was great as well. If you want authentic South Indian food in Vancouver go here.
Food was okay but all of experience turned into worst experience ever because of the customer service they provide. Seeing customer service like this I feel there should be an entrance test where the authorities can see if the person is capable to own a service sector industry or not. The server there will fail in this test badly. I recommend not to go this place else you will waste the two precious things on earth I.e your time and money
Food: Had Idly and the house special spiced masala dosa. They were both really good. The tomato & ginger chutney was excellent and went very well with the idly. Would highly recommend. I will be back to try the other dishes on their menu. Service: Phenomenal. The staff is friendly and go out of their way to make sure you are satisfied. I wanted some ginger beer and since they didn't have it, the owner went to pick up some ginger beer just for me. The owner and his staff are passionate about what they do and it can clearly be seen in the food they serve and service they offer. I'd highly recommend this place!
Great tasting authentic South Indian food, and including some dishes with a Western fusion twist - everything is always fresh and very reasonably priced for the generous portions. Solid draught beer and wine list that pair well with the food. Sharv the owner and his staff are always friendly, efficient, and helpful.
My sister brought us to David Dosa because she raved about the food. I ordered a Cauliflower Dosa. It was beyond delicious!! The coconut sauce that comes with the dish was so creamy. I would definitely recommend and go to DDC again!
Davie Dosa Company was worth the visit because the HOUSE SPECIAL SPICED MASALA was prepared beautifully. It was prepared with crunch and texture, and the service was wonderful with genuine warmth. My taste buds were so happy, that I ordered some dessert(carrot halwa)! I will definitely be back again, before heading back to Seattle! Now I am having flashbacks of my visit to Mumbai and Goa.
Terrible food. Stale dough for dosa , the potato masala for the dosa was stale and no taste (Masala for the dosa can be made tasteful even with minimum use of spices). Both the coconut chutney was tasteless. I am saying this because I grew up eating this food and know how simple it it is to make it, in half the price what they charge . The food never tasted great but was not terrible quality wise the last time I tried, which was a year back . Placed a big order this morning for my breakfast and had to throw away few of the stuff . As a person who does not write a lot of reviews, sorry say that I had to pen down this one and would never try the food again.
I was here in the summers and enjoyed a yummy southindian breakfast near the patio style seating. The idlis were soft and fresh! We also ordered masala Dosa and uthapam and requested it to be spicy and spicy it was! The host was very kind and nice. He seemed very proud and knowledgeable about his food. Having lived in Hyderabad for a couple of years, I can vouch the food is as good as any Bandi from hyderabad.
Restaurant tried us to serve stale food. We had ordered Medu vada Which was served with stale tomato chutney and we told same to server and she told that they were using old chutney batch and than served us with fresh one. We were like what was the point of serving old batch of chutney even after 24 hours. Than we ordered ghee roast dosa and batter of dosa tested sour, which is generally not at all sour if you make batter fresh. Usually it tasted sour when you are using older and frozen batter. Owner cum cook was arrogant and he didn t has a knowledge of single panny of how to make South Indian dishes. They are just trying to fool locals and other customer by using title of South Indian cuisine. Even we had tried to pay owner the bill even after serving us pathetic food, but arrogantly he denied to accept cash. Definitely I am going to file complain to local authorities regarding the same for serving stale food to customers with cost of their health!! What a pathetic and awful experience.
We always have a great meal here. The new lamb vindaloo is very tasty. The host and the staff are very welcoming and always treat us right!
What a wonderful addition to the neighborhood!! Amazing food and equally amazing service. 10 /10 would recommend.
Always my favourite south Indian place which makes me feel like home. Dosa is not too oily but super crispy and the flavours of their chutneys and sambhar are well balanced. Ever want to feel good out of this covid do visit its worth.
Everything was delightful, even though there was only one server covering the dining room, he took care of everyone beautifully and professionally. The chef even helped by delivering the perfectly crisp dosas with the delicious raita and sambal. Their Manchurian cauliflower is yummy, and packs a spicy punchy. The simple decor is complemented by the tropical banana leaf dishes. Drink specials early week are $1 off house wines, beer and single cocktails. I m not a huge fan of Indian cuisine, but love my dosas. Well maintained, clean bathrooms as well. Do not forget dessert, both the pistachio kulfi and gulab jamun are sweet and satisfying!
I don't know why anyone would give this place a 1 star... maybe they are the other dosa places who got jealous that "they" didn't make the paper because of their less than exceptible dosa, unlike like Davie Dosa which is Exceptional! I wish we had some photos of those individuals (children) so they could be banned from every place in town. I would highly recommend this place to anyone who enjoys not only dosa but Indian food in general.
Dosas are hard to get right and they do it just as well as dosas in India. The most authentic south Indian food you can find in the downtown area. More specifically, 1) Food quality - fresh tasting and not greasy 2) Delivery time (if ordering takeout) - Very prompt 3) Founders/Owners - Very pleasant
Wow!!! Hard to find authentic dosas when you grew up on the mean streets of Bangalore and dosas were your bread and butter! This place is awesome. Also perfect for date night with the decor, dim lighting and chill jazz music. The have a full bar as well and weekly specials. We had the cauliflower Manchurian and a couple of masala dosas and they were delicious. The staff here are super friendly and ready to help with suggestions if this cuisine is new to you. With the closed tables they were really Covid safe too. Get a dosa now, thank me later.
Amazingly fresh and sincerely prepared South Indian classics as well as modern twists. Charming owner and server, Anousha.
It's worth 5 star for both food and the customer service.
The owner of the restaurant is good because of some misunderstanding the wrong food was delivered uber was not helping in solving it. I got a call from owner and he said he is there for customer and he will help me in a way in which customer feel satisfy. I like the efforts which they put and I would visit their restaurant someday to meet him and have a dine in there. He s a good guy and nice restaurant.
Food is excellent! Probably one of the best South Indian food in the pnw. The Dosa & desserts are a must!
Great food and attentive staff who obviously care about what they are doing. Will go back for more.....it's all great tasting!
Superb taste..fantastic food south Indian dosa at reasonable rate highly recommended. Very nice polite staff Quick service ( Mumbai wala)
I'm a frequent visitor to this restaurant. Service and food is great overall. But I am extremely disappointed by last two take out orders for South Indian bread. For my first order, the bread was very thick, didn't cook well from inside and lacked the flakiness the restaurant used to have. My guests weren't happy. Reported the same to the restaurant owner and received some refund. Ordered the same bread and curry again for the last order, but the bread hasn't improved much. Extremely disappointed!!
Reminded me home food. Thank you for the great service and good food .
Since the day davie dosa opened, it became my home, whenever i feel like eating south indian food, this place comes to number one priority on the list! And yes with this delicious taste food, i dont forget to tip them for such a good and quick service. My rating for them is faaar more than 5 stars. : ). Go try it guys!
I have very bad experience first they took 35 mints for my order and when i received my order from chicken curry i smiled seafood which was discussing i could not finished my food even pratha was raw not cooked properly...and saver was in the kitchen so u cannot even call her for anything....I think chef used same pan to cook all the dishes..wasted my money....i advise do not go there...
Loved this resto for several reasons. We ordered different dosas...lamb, regular chicken, and butter chicken...they were all good. I particularly like the butter chicken as it was so flavorful. The sweet corn soup was very yummy too, and there was a lot of chicken in it. Also, the servers were very attentive. My friend was not very sure about the menu, and he asked many questions. The server patiently answered them all and gave him a few advice as well. As for myself, I didn't know which dessert was good and I usually don't eat anything too sweet. The server recommended me the Kulfi pistachio which was not too sweet and very delicious. The resto is located right next to the Independent grocery store on Davie and parking is very easy. There are lots of street parkings as well as parking lots. I'd recommend Davie Dosa Company to anyone who's looking for good dosas. Give it a try, I promise it won't disappoint you.
This place serves amazing authentic South Indian Food
Love having a South Indian restaurant with actual spicy potato Curry. Really good dosa and sambhar. Would definitely recommend and visit again
Authentic South Indian food at the heart of the most bustling street in Vancouver downtown. Loved the food and touched by their hospitality as they made our aunt's birthday a special and memorable one with their special house "Pista Kulfi". It's definitely my go to place specially for that lip smacking Kulfi - it's the best in the city .
Small place, super slow service, expensive considering it is only a crepe with a bit of filling. The fish pakora was tiny, frozen factory product...the mango lassi was spectacular and the butter chicken very good. But over all Dosa restaurants like this one are over rated and this was my last try at this.
Food very presentable and tasty. Venue and washroom is very clean. We had a great time.
Loved the food. Heard about it from other people. Came at 130pm Saturday Oct 24/2020 and the lady who serviced us was very sweet. Would definately come back again and try other things!
Good food a little different than the usual Indian food.
Really relaxed spot with a nice range of dosa options and super friendly staff. They go out of there way to make allergen info available on the menu so I recommend for vegetarian /gluten free eaters especially.
Quiet place on a snowy Sunday night. I had veggie curry and house white wine. Both very good. Partner had chicken curry and house pale ale, also great. Cozy, good service, hearty satisfying dishes. It was my birthday night meal, and was a good choice.
Hot preparation; delicious; lot of choices; enjoyed;
Authentic experience. The mango lassi was excellent and so were the chutneys. Decently priced and the owner was very friendly. Worth a visit if you're in the area.
Server need to be trained how to talk to customers Wondering how did they get permit to open the restaurant Just wanna let you know guys you are in canada not in south india that you gonna talk the way u like Grow up dude otherwise someone gonna give u hard time bro
Good people. Less than ordinary tasting food. Not so great ambience.
Amaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaazing! Authentic taste of South India
The food was amazing, reasonably priced, but it was the boss's energy that made my late-night snack perfect. He was so friendly, personable, and he had very positive energy. I'll make the way over there just to hang with the bossman again!
No authentic South Indian restaurant will charge you extra $ for sambhar/chutneys (its $3 extra at this place) - That is given like water in all restaurants. The food quality is decent but taste has been modified to match the western palate. The portions can be increased to justify the prize. If you are looking for real South Indian food try restaurant on Kingsway or Fraser St.
Good South Indian food for the international travelers longing for home food. Taste - great! Service - great! Staff - great! Music - great! Ambience - great! Highly recommend!
This is one of my FAVORITE places to eat in Vancouver! Highly suggest this place!!! Delicious food and excellent customer service! The owner is a cool guy and the food will make you want to keep coming back for more. He offered me the right cuisine my first time there that I found myself in there frequently during my month stay in the city. This is one of those places that is popular among the locals and their all so friendly. Anytime I'm in town from Atlanta it's a must that I stop by this place for a bite to eat!
Original post- Totally ordered curry on door dash $12 in the picture rice and a piece of bread. When it came a cup of curry like the small one at sub way cup of soup. Update- the store and door dash worked together and have credited me back $7 on the purchase through the door dash app. I originally rated the store 3 but have now changed to 5 .
Tried their chicken curry and Briyani. Both was pretty bad, the curry was too dilute. But the dosa was decent
I feel it s important to get this out of the way: Rob Lowe and I shared Gobi 65 s at the Davie Dosa Company. A defining moment in my life of eating Indian food with celebrities. But perhaps that s irrelevant to the point: There is no line up at Davie Dosa Company and soon, there will be. I travel 600 km for the Masala Dosa and the slim chance, that, once again, I ll sit beside Rob Lowe and he ll reach towards my plate like we re old friends. But in the meantime, I hug Sharv and Anu then sit beside the sidewalk, waiting, listening for that voice again, a plate of Gobi 65 s shimmering in the sun.
Came with great expectation. Male cashier Is very friendly to some group not to everybody.. very disappointed
The BEST dosa place EVER in Vancouver!!!!! Great menu, always very friendly service and reasonable price!! Try their chicken dosa or butter chicken with Lassi. Super tasty!!! Thank you Davie dosa company:):)
Great food! The dosas are delicious! I also recommend the chicken wings. The staff are amazing. They are so kind and friendly. I highly recommend this place.
Excellent food. The vada, dosa, masala, chutnis were amazing. Cute little place. Pretty unique sitting by the street fully open. Excellent service very attentive patient. Crispy dosa is excellent. I will visit next time. I understand they have authentic South Indian coffee not in the menu next time I want to try. I strongly recommend.
A great place to eat varieties of authentic South Indian food in Vancouver downtown. Definitely do not miss this place specially if you like Dosas
Food was horrible and service was good. The portions were very small and pricey .very disappointed.
Ghee roast Dosa! Must try, very filling and have it with Masala Tea. Idli was also good.
Awesome taste and superb experience, the staff is very good at serving and very fast service, if you really wanna taste the real south indian food and especially south indian breads (parota) was so soft and this is the right place to find them and this is the best i found in Vancouver.
Great spot for authentic South Indian food! Be sure to try the lamb biryani and masala dosa.
Awesome Dosa reminded me of Home thanks Sharv for making my day early morning, it's a must visit place. Cheers
We visited this place twice in our 4 days trip to Vancouver. Food is good.. staff is courteous and friendly..we would really appreciate service given by Anu and Sharv is a very nice person..we wish them best luck..we would love to come back here whenever we visit again..p.s. their masala chai and ghee roast masala dosa is recommended..
Awesome, made me miss India, best Dosa and Chai I town!!
I loved their Dosa. Bread is my favorite. and nice and proper recommendation from staff there. :)
Authentic, delicious food, very satisfying with great service, the lamb and all highly recommended, I will be back!
I. Love. Dosa. We were only in Vancouver for 4 days and went here twice. Service was fantastic. Food was superb. This is 2 different meals for 2 people Not pictured with dinner was my eggplant dosa. It came a bit late and forgot to take a picture and I scarfed it! The eggplant dosa was really good, very savory.
Our idly was under cooked. The sambhar curry had a hair in it. The server spilled water on our table. We ordered a $12 dosa and were instead given a $14 dosa. We assumed it was what we ordered and ate it, but were then charged $14. When I asked the server to correct the bill, the server rudely mentioned that I must be on a budget to want to save $2. EDIT: the owner asked us to come back and ensured that service would be better. Indeed, the service was great and the food was good too. Highly recommend the cauliflower 65 and the pista kulfi.
Great staff, relaxed and casually stylish. The dosa are delicious!
This Indian Jewel in the heart of the West End of Vancouver is the best place to enjoy authentic, delicious South Indian food. Vegetarian or not, there is a dish for everyone....Dosas, Curries, Exotic breads, pakoras, samosas, soups, Bryanis, etc, etc...I had a hard time especially with the desert choices...wowww!!!. Service is excellent, low prices, fast, and like no other in Vancouver!! My group of 10 was extremely well taken care of Open 7 days a week, full bar, wines and beers... Will I go back?? Absolutely
One of the best ghee roast dosas in town. Shrav, owner is a delight to speak to. It's clean and has a cozy setup. If u are craving south Indian food, you must eat here.
Just ordered food from door dash. Ordered a dosa and samosa.. The dosa was too salty and the samosa's (both) end was broken. It was full of dripping oil. Didn't liked it at all. Didn't recommend anyone.
Food is absolutely delicious and service has always been friendly. Great selection of cocktails as well.
Delicious food and the best customer service I have received in a while. The masala chai was a show stopper
Best chicken biryani in Vancouver with a nice ambience Staff is very friendly . A must visit place for food .
Vegan-friendly, affordable food, very friendly owner. You can get a curry, rice, and a (thicker) dosa at the price of $12 -- a filling meal!
Enjoyed their food and hospitality. There aren't very many places in Vancouver where you can get authentic and reasonably priced South Indian food. Service from the owner, Sharv, was impeccable. Will be back quite often and hope they can expand to the North shore soon.
-Great place. 5+ -Very nice stuff. -Food quality is good, but the portion size should be slightly larger.
We bought onion and masala dosas but ended up throwing them in the trash. We received uncooked dosas that had batter on the top. The parathas were also uncooked and really thick. The sambar and chutneys were really bland. The reviews and menu were deceiving.
Great authentic dosa right on davie! Amazing location, awesome dosas + good prices. Highly recommend.
Enjoyed their food and hospitality. There aren't very many places in Vancouver where you can get authentic and reasonably priced South Indian food. Service from the owner, Sharv, was impeccable. Will be back quite often and hope they can expand to the North shore soon.
Rosa's half full beer, on menu unavailable and chickpea curry under cooked and poor flavour.worst food on our holiday
Delicious Dosas and Friendly Service! Will definitely be back
The best dosa that I have eaten here in Vancouver...compliments the chef and server.
After being a regular customer for almost a year, I can honestly say that Davie Dosa is an absolutely marvelous restaurant on all levels. The dishes are consistently fresh and fabulous and the ambience is lovely. Sharv, the owner is always on-site with a friendly smile and the desire to make everyone's dining experience a great one. Even with all the dining choices I have , Davie Dosa has quickly turned into one of my favorites. Thanks again Sharv!
