Royalty was fast. Staff was friendly!
On the internet, I had booked a Grand Cherokee on site then only half as big cars as Mitsubishi ASX were available.
Here is lured with vehicles they do not have.
On the Internet, I had filled everything in advance zbd filled, when renting the staff seemed to know nothing about it and tried again to push all the insurance again.
I do not have time and desire for that.
We hired the car other times, but this time we were not particularly lucky.
Staff helpful, but many details of the vehicle we had already paid for were no longer included. I had booked a Ford Mondeo and instead they let us choose between small cars typical of the city and completely unsuitable for our journey. We opted for a Ford Fiesta Station Wagon that all in all was very spacious but very poorly on the street.
Experience with this non-positive company.
We will NEVER EVER use Dollar again!!! They charged us $184 for 1/4 tank of gas! That's more than the total weekly rate. Other hidden cost applied too. We ended up paying almost 3 x's the quoted amount!
If I could rate lower I would. Despicable customer service. Waited for 30 minutes at LAX Location for bus to terminal.
Yes there was a long wait to collect the car (1.5 hours), when I arrived around 7pm. But the car was what I wanted and return was efficient. On return I noticed the que was much much shorter (11am) so I guess it depends on the time you turn up
Very rude and lier staff. They sold me gas much more expensive than its actual price they just love to charge you as much as possible
I was really pleased with the place. Didnt wait too long on line, and when i returned got a personal escort back to the airport...no shuttle bus! The lady was really kind
Quick, easy, smooth, covered, affordable and cars in good condition.
We had rented a Kia Rio 2018 for 254$ for our trip online. When we got there, they charged us 434$ and would only. Give us a midsize and not the compact we ordered. Car didnt had any GPS.
Hopeless. Shuttle from LAX took us there instead of Thrifty. Insisted Thrifty shut. Huge queue about an hour. Got on another shuttle to Thrifty. Not shut. Huge queue too but definitely not shut. Stuck in queue to be served. Note to self... never book Thrifty or Dollar again.
DO NOT RENT FROM THEM - I waited 30 minutes for the shuttle, 1.5 hours to get the car and then they told me I had to buy insurance per California State Law. It was 1:00 am and I wanted to leave so I did. When I returned the car, and standing in line for the shuttle, the guy to me he declined the insurance but they charged him anyway.
BAD BAD BAD company.
Great experience getting us checked in, did a great job explaining how the insurance purchased through our booking site wasn't full coverage and what could be done about it. Will definitely use Dollar again and use their in house insureance.
It was a so-so experience. I am not dying to try them again but if I have to I may. But if I do have a similar experience it will be the last time
Pros. Cheaper than some, car was nice
Cons. The system was odd. I had to wait in a line even though I was a dollar express member and had to go through all of the financials once again even though they have my credit card and after I waited in that line I had to go wait under a sign in the parking lot to get my class a car. That took an additional 20 minutes
Staff didnt seem to care. They were ok but nothing special. While checking out I was privy to the conversation about two employees arguing over who's going to take their lunch break and when.
Dollar car rental scam.
When we picked up our rental car at LAX on June 01st, we specifically told the agent at the front desk, that we did not want any extra Insurance - package because we were fully covered by the pre-booking. He asked us twice, and we answered him very clearly twice: NO WE DO NOT WANT ANY, THANK YOU. He then told us that we were right, he could see that everything was prepaid (we showed him our original contract/voucher) and we had nothing to worry about. He then asked me to sign my name on the receipt and I asked him what I was signing and he told me that this was a standard procedure and there were no hidden cost on the receipt, they just needed a signature for them to assure that I was the driver and to match the signature on the credit card.
THEN: This Friday (01 August) we have discovered that there was a claim on my credit card of USD 579,99 from Dollar RAC LAX Los Angeles and I have been informed by yesterday, that this is a claim on extra insurance and fees and etc. !!
Please notice that in our agency you have a thief, a liar and a criminal employee at the LAX rental office! We will of course refuse to pay this bill and have already contacted Master Card for that purpose. You are advised to withdraw the claim immediately to avoid us reporting this incident to higher authorities. We are very worried that if you do not fire this person who did this to us, he will continue to scam other guests visiting USA. Pall Markan
I didn't go in so can't tell you what it was like but from what I did see the place was clean. Hope this helps.
Easy in and out of the rental facility. The car was a mechanical wreck.
I wish I could give zero. STAY AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY. The counter charged me every he could without informing me. I ended up paying $450 for 6 days Class C. It is a scam.
I've rented many cars and traveled to many nations but my experience at Dollar rental was the worst I've ever experience and won't recommend any one to use the LAX Dollar office. VERY Long lines, extremely rude personal. If any of the managers of Dollar is reading this I rented a car on the 1 Sept'13 @ 12:00 noon the person behind the desk who was soooooo rude.
The service here was poor. The front desk receptionist was rude when asked about insurance. This was not the worst part yet. When picking up the car after the reception desk, the lady working at the Express station was very rude and shouting to many customers to just wait. There was no explanation as to why we had to wait until a manager finally came to the pick-up area to direct people. The manager apologized for the employees poor customer service. We hope that this property gets an audit from the headquarters to improve customer service.
Make sure you save your receipt for your gas fill up thats is within 10 miles of the rental drop off! They do check it to make sure your gas tank is actually full. They don't really mention it to you in person at the counter but it is printed on the envelope they give you with your rental documents. Picking up the rental was retalivly painless, didnt have to wait long for a shuttle to pick up at the terminals. Rental place was well staffed, didn't have to wait at all. They didn't have the car size I reserved so they just told me to pick one that was next size up. Only complaint is getting a shuttle back to the airport after dropping off the car, we waited more than 30 min when they said it runs every 15 min. So make sure you have plenty of time when returning your car, because it takes another 15 min or so to get to the terminals.
They suggested us to buy the 145$ "toll flatrate" for our route (LA-LV-SF-LA) we told them.
They should have known that there are no toll streets on this route at all. The only toll we paid was for a bridge in SF. So we needed 2,50$ toll and burned 142,50$ for nothing. Very bad!
Terrible, girls outside rude at 1:30 am . Didn't show me how to open the trunk, didn't do walk around, didn't look at my gas tank, didn't tell me where the exit was, I would never use them again. Plus I had to wait forever. I would never use you again!!!!! And I travel 6 X a year to LA
The car is quite new
However, when you deliver the car, there will be some taxes that are not available or the things you want to buy at a price increase.
Slowest service in the LAX rental area... I probably won t rent from them again because lines are so unpredictable. The staff is kind and earns a couple more stars for the location, but I still probably will stay away.
Biggest scam ever! Rented a car at Dollar Las Vegas and returned it in L.A. At the lot I was told they were gonna charge me $150 for insurance! And I specifically told them in Las Vegas I didn't wanted any insurance!!!!!!
Warning: if you opt for Full to Full I propose to buy the extras Full to Empty Service saying that although returned the car with a full tank to think them to supply at the market rate. Instead recharged about 30-40% on the price of gasoline at the pump, but the worst thing is that if we returned the car with a full tank pretend nothing and will charge the cost of Full to Empty service, in my case 105 dollars since I rented a pickup. Presenting this when the car is returned will eliminate the cost of the service from the final bill. Everything is ok.
Make sure you don't forget anything in the car. They are the worst, very incompetent and they don't care. Not eve 1 hour after my daughter and niece discover that left a very expensive headphones and a black sweater in the back sit of the rental car. Instead of telling them where the car was located so they can retrieve, they were told to make a report... are you kidding me? That was on 12/13/2018 And today is 12/20/2018 and they haven't found it... sorry but not sorry to say this place hire thieves.
Never again. ESTAFA. The way this people operate is missleading with hidden charges. We ended up paying double of what originally paid over the internet and waited for 3 hours to get the car.
Worst experience ever. Avoid at all costs!!!!!!Even with a reservation waited in line for almost 2 hours. My flight got in at 1130pm. By the time I got to customer service it was technically the next day but I still got charged for my whole reservation! There was no reason for such a long wait. Then when I turned my car back in there was additional $200 in insurance charges when I asked for liability coverage only.
This was a great experience. They took care of us. Avoid the other Dollar in Santa Ana!
They never have the car you reserved unless you're a gold member..
The longest waiting time ever, it was just ridiculous, the guy who helped us was very nice, no complaints about him.
Arrived there after 12 hours flight in the evening. Immediately said that I don't want any additional options. Lady at the counter texted me and the next day I had a Premium Road Assistance on my credit card :-( Cars are outside and there is hardly any lighting. Also the next day I saw that the car had bumps and scratches .... Not recommended! Return was ok and done quickly.
The worst rental car that I have suffered ever. No cars when I arrive even when we have a reservation. I have to wait until next day. Very bad service.
Rip off! Charged my card for refueling even though I returned car full. Never in 20 years of renting cars have I received such bad service. Their aftersales service is unbelievably uncaring and they don't try to help at all.
Ok...the pricing was better than others and the car was good!!!! That being said..
1. Way too long a wait for the shuttle bus with a less than friendly driver.
2. Significant wait in line at the rental counter, with little help from the assistants roaming around. They may need more help at the desk!!!!
3. The counter attendant...large sumo wrestler looking guy...a real butthead. Very sarcastic, really nasty, apparent he disliked his job making the transaction awkward!!
So in summary pricing and car reasonable...friendliness, helpfulness a big fat zero... your choice...
Charged me extra $500 for "lost key" even though key was returned within 24 hours. I did everything I was told to do by multiple customer service agents, each of whom assured me there would be no fee - I have since spent a full week fighting to get money back to no avail. Rental service is fine - but the moment there's an issue you're out hours of time and hundreds of dollars. I travel frequently and used to use Dollar exclusively. No more.
Update: I was able to finally receive a partial refund but only after weeks of repeated calls and email to corporate office. The questionable practices seem to be very specific to THIS location at LAX - as many other reviewers have noted. I may or may not rent with Dollar again, but I'll most certainly avoid the LAX location.
We were also sold an insurance under dubious reasons ...
I was able to rent a car from Dollar after Avis turned me away because my driver's license did not have my middle initial like my credit card has( after waiting inline for over an hour!). It seems the smaller companys will do what is necessary to accommodate their customers.
Worst experience ever! Shuttles were not running, waited an hour, took a Lyft to the agency. Called Dollar but could only reach corporate, there was no number for the location. Corporate said that they would reimburse for the fare but they did not. The agency desk person was unhelpful.
Everything was good , only thing was a long line. But the help me ASAP. They can add some more shuttles
Charge you for extra services without asking (toll fee + premium road service) and hand out cars in bad and even dangerous conditions. Do not book here!!!
They did give us a smaller car than ordered. The Buick Encore is so small and tiny that I really did not believe if it really a car...
And we had to wait over an hour...
addition ... i tried to reclamate the wrong car class - but the refused ... it is obvious that this ist the normal behavior. when we returned the car, the guy agreed to us, that the car was smaller than the booked and payed ... dont go to dollar!
The overall satisfaction could be Ok, however because of an issue made by the Dollar, I can t give appositive feedback. The issue we had was related to the oil change, as after a week of travelling the oil level in the car (Chevrolet Equinox) became 0%. We were not informed by Dollar that the car has low oil amount and that we should not drive more than about 1000 miles (after which the oil change was scheduled). We still had about 2000 miles to drive in our 3-weeks long trip, so called the Roadside assistance. Only after about 1 hour of calling we ve got the answer that we should change the car. We had to drive to Fresno, where the closest Dollar office was located and spent about 3 hours to change the car (as we also had to return the car with full tank). It wasn t our fault that the car had this oil issue, so I rate it as we were given a broken car! The only positive thing from this story was that we were given a brand new Hyundai Santa Fe afterwards.
God awful horrible. Used them twice on our visit. Will not do it again. Shuttles every 20 minutes. I waited in a line of 16 groups at 10pm with 1-2 clerks behind the desk to help (there were 19 service desks mostly empty of attendants). After over an hour wait in the line, there were only compact cars in the lot. One guy was shuttling cars over from the Hertz car rental lot. We waited another half hour until we finally convinced them to give us anything that was here at the lot. The woman working the lot was phenominal. The rest of the experience was just unbelievable.
Excellent service in every way. Very kind people. Very professional and they make everything easy.
The car came out great, no problems.
Very good prices.
Very bad experience when collecting car at Los Angeles airport. Firstly, the shuttle goes every 30 min so you have to wait. When we arrived at the office it started good but them turned quite nasty. Employee who served us (Asif) incorrectly pulled someone else's booking details and started to demand extra insurance from me. When I disagreed with him he suddenly started telling me that my body language is inappropriate. Thank you 'Mr. Body language Expert'. When I pointed that thia is not my booking he become quiet and completed our booking ( still, not being very nice and polite, and no, he wasn't sorry at all). It was quite late ( after midnight) so choice of the cars wasn't great (5 cars between 5 ppl so it was quite intensive who gets better car). On positive side the car we had was good and served us nicely during the trip and drop off process {\(in San Francisco) was very simple.
Never even think of getting a car from here.
We had a reservation. They gave our car to another customer in front of us. Then said we have to wait.
It is ONE hour at night after a long delayed flight.
Manager never shows up despite of 10 times our request. "He is counting cash and its messed up" their employeed said.
I asked for another car, but they said it was luxery and can't give you this one asking us to take a compact car instead of SUV.
Don't rent from these unprofessional people, and let them go out of business.
As far as car rental places go, this was just fine. They appeared to have less shuttles compared to some of the others, but we made it eventually.
Got to the office on the airport shuttle on a Saturday about 2:00 PM. We were taken care of right away. Filled out some paperwork, picked out our car, and we were on our way. The whole experience took about 20 minutes. Return was very easy and no additional charges were added to our bill.
We rented a car in San Francisco for 10 days
We had reservations for 9am. We couldn't get the car before 1pm which turned our program upside down. The renter did not want to tell us pk, and keep us informed in terms of time ..... they offered us assistance and fuel on arrival to compensate .. Many of us were in this situation waiting ..
We drove without problem and then the next morning the car did not start any more. she had a pb of drums and they did not do much to help us apart from telling us to come to Frenos or Los Angeles knowing that we were at Lake Tahoe .............. We managed with tongs and very helpful American guys to restart every morning. Arrived at Frenos, we warned them 2 hours before as planned so that they prepare the car and there they tell us that there is no more car available ....
After BCP of insistence they finally find us a car ... of higher class but much older.
It worked very well the rest of the trip ...
In short, a very mixed opinion ...
Excellent service fast, good price, excellent conditions car, easy and really helpful stuff, we left forgotten a personal item and the friendly supervisor went through the cars to find it for us, thank you very much.
This place is amazing. Great prices and you re in and out in 10 mins. They have this down to a science.
Fast and efficient customer service staff, but there is a problem with the hired TOYOTA COROLLA steering wheel. The dashboard shows Need maintainence, please contact the dealer when picking up the car.
My husband paid for a Jeep Wrangler but they didn't have it so they give us a BEAT UP Infinity. No one checked the car or anything. I told my husband to do a video because of them not saying anything. When we returned the car, the guy there says, "Did someone hit y'all?" I immediately told him we have a video of the footage we took before driving off and I also said to him, "That's how you guys scam people by acting like you do not know the conditions of the car that you let rent out and to make sure you do not tell people to take pics/ videos!". He laughed and said, "everyone should know to take pics anyway". I will never use DOLLAR services again.
FRAUD ALERT! Horrible ! Stay away !! I got black mailed to sign for what the customer service person called "Mandatory insurance" a total of $458 when the car it's self cost me only $142.08 ! we were arguing for a while I was telling him I do not want insurance because I have insurance on my car In NJ that covers a rental car !! BUT HE SAID IT WAS MANDATORY BY THE STATE OF CALIFORNIA ! WOW THAT GUY BLACK MAILED ME AND DID COMMIT FRAUD! BETTER YET! I'VE BEEN CALLING FOR A MANAGER MORE THAN THREE DAYS & THEY KEEP ROUTING ME FROM ONE PERSON TO ANOTHER JUST TO GET RID OF ME!
I WILL CALL INSURANCE COMMISSIONER AND FILE A COMPLAINT
Beware of the sneaky insurance up sell !!!! I firmly and repeated said no and the counter staff still put it though and tried to charge me - seriously you need to be vigilant or they will get you!!
And then there was Kevin the shuttle bus driver! Kevin was extremely unprofessional and made the entire bus of customers feel very uncomfortable. Being on his bus was like being on a bus to jail, customers were treated with contempt and if you didn't adhere to his bizarre set of rules you got yelled at. His bizarre process meant the already long trip, was much, much longer - it was beyond frustrating and uncomfortable. After all of this he then attempted to hustle us for a tip - Dollar you really need to fix this!
The bus driver was very friendly. The office people super fast and very clean cars
Got a cab here from Budget who refused to honour a prepaid voucher from Holiday Autos, Dollar honoured the voucher & I was on my way within MINUTES. Drop off was painless and quick. The charges I agreed to were on my credit card quickly and at the correct amount. I cannot fault this experience and would recommend Dollar over Budget anytime!
We went to pick up our car in L.A... They wouldn't accept my credit card so we had to wait for over an hour to get the rental agreement changed to my partners name.
But in saying this is we didn't have problems we wouldn't have gotten upgraded from 2013 Kia (which was the original car we were suppose to get) to 2017 2L turbo Range Rover SUV. What a sweet car to cruise the state of California in!
I will not be renting from Dollar again. Their LAX facility is where I rented recently. It took over an hour of waiting in line before getting to the counter. The staff were extremely rude and didn't want to have anything to do with customers. A large number of them were content to sit around and watch the long line rather then assist customers. While waiting in line 15-20% of people exiting came back complaining about cars missing keys. another 15% were still waiting outside for cars to show up. Unless your time and sanity are not worth anything, go rent from someone else. These jokers aren't worth considering.
awful waited a long time for a bus to come while other rental companies circled by multiply times to bring us to the rental facility. We get there and there had to be 51 families in line. they had the poles and ropes set up like when you wait on line for a ride at Disney. after over an hour in line to get the car, we go outside to find out they had no more cars available. we waited in line again for the cars that were coming out of the garage from people dropping them off for us to get in them and take them. whole experience from airport was almost 3 hours.
We get the car, it had 69k miles on it, (which is ready for the graveyard in rental miles) it made noises when making right turns, the battery for the key was dying, rough on the road, it was terrible. It also had out of state plates, which made us feel like we could be a target of being an outsider.
When we went to return the car, the line was 3 lanes with about 8 cars in each lane. We then had to wait to turn in the car, to make the bus (only two) that were going to the airport. which we squished into the bus, but many others couldn't fit, and had to wait for the next one.
Don't rent here... it's not worth the extra $50.00 you save, unless you have an extra 3 hour to waste . Terrible choice. I would have given it no stars if it was an option.
when we complained, the manager could have cared less.
I always get great discount with myAAA card and great service too
Never rent from them they're scammers they up charge you for no reason. They tell you one price but run your credit card another price. Everyone was complaining about them doing the same thing.
Arriving from the UK late on a Sunday evening, I expected to collect my pre-paid rental pretty much immediately. However, it took two and half hours to get through the queue at Dollar LAX. Had we not pre-paid we would have gone somewhere else for certain.
Don't be drawn in by the low prices... avoid like the plague.
Not friendly workers. Some were walking around doing nothing.
It took a while to get checked in, but once we made it up to the counter....things moved much faster. Counter help was a bit slow, but we rented a fantastic car, and the parking lot staff was extremely helpful. Rental was low cost, and we returned the car to San Diego Airport. Checkout was fast and in an extremely nice place. We will use this Dollar again.
The reception is very poor
The car is not specified, and you must not approve the car until after making sure that it is in compliance with the contract
Had a bad experience when picking up a car from here. The agent tried to charge me extra without letting me know..
Be sure you ask them everything before you sign anything!
I asked for them not to include Personal Accident Liability and they did anyway and charged me an extra $300. They should be shut down!
I felt that the contents of the statement were different, but when I asked if I could tell me about the contents with the feeling that there might be a misunderstanding here, even if I responded, `` Exit is over there '' `` Get out '' do not do. It was the first time that we had a terrible response so far.
This was best and easiest experience I've ever had renting a car. They have earned a customer for life after this weekend. If I have a choice between Dollar and Enterprise...dollar will win every time.
It seemed like a scam because I had rented a car big enough for 7 people. Taking advantage of my poor English, they wanted to make me rent a much more expensive and unnecessary car by charging me insurance and extra charges. The total amount was almost 1200 dollars. Luckily my son realized and did not allow it. Do not be scammed by this branch.
Easy access and simple drop off service. Hand the keys to the attendants waiting on the forecourt for the return of the cars.
Be ready for a quick handover though....the cleaners are quickly over to the car when you arrive.
