This is the worst, most unpleasant business I have ever dealt with. The staff was unprofessional, rude, and even seemed to mock customers who were having difficulties. We had to wait for hours to get a vehicle that we reserved and paid for. If you are unfortunate enough to rent a car with them expect major delays. They didn t offer any discounts for their terrible service and wouldn t even acknowledge any wrongdoing. They let you reserve vehicle that they don t have on the lot. Stay away.

The man who served me asked about my trip, where I was going and was super helpful over and above the car I should take.

He did say not to book the Managers Special, which I had, so won't make that mistake again, but would definitely rent a car from Dollar in the future.

First time renting with Dollar and my last time. Too long of a wait to be picked up, then agents have an attitude. Mine basically told me to go with another company next time. Unbelievable. Guys out in the lot, though, were very friendly and helpful.

We got there at 1230 AM. Stood in the line for quite some time as there were only 2 staff. At 1AM both of them announced that the computer system was updating or something, so for about 10 minutes they couldn't do anything. At that time the queue had not moved forward a bit since we got there. Finally one more staff came in and the queue started moving. By the time we had done our rental it was already around 1:30AM.

I've been a Dollar customer for a really long time. The inefficiency has always not been improved. I hope staff who work at the counter would be more understanding that people who go to rent their car have most likely had flown for 10,15 hours or so plus jet lags. PLEASE, don't update your system regularly at 1AM..

Never again. We had to wait for half an hour at midnight for the shuttle while 2-4 shuttles from every other rental company went by us. When we got to the rental location we were given the "managers special" and pointed towards the back of the lot. Got lost on the way, had to be redirected by a lot employee. Finally found the line of compact cars we could pick from. Fine. But it turned out that this consisted of a few cars that were really banged up, one without a key and the one we picked still had a cardboard box and Costco receipt in the trunk. Altogether brutal experience. Will not rent from Thrifty/Dollar again.

If I could give them a -5 I would. The service was horrendous. The staff working tonight was unprofessional and seemed to mock the people that were having difficulties getting their vehicles. Will never ever ever rent from Dollar Rent A Car again. And even worse was the temperature was very cold and they did nothing to alleviate people's discomfort.

Left an umbrella on the bus coming in. The lost and found was closed on the weekends as no management was available. Had do go to the website, fill out a form, big hassle.
Had to stand in a long line to checkout a car that was already paid for, as well as recheck credit card, drivers license, all that was done online. Painful compared to other car rentals. Glad I wasn't in a hurry.
Expect to wait 20 minutes for a bus back to the airport. Also 20 minutes to get picked up.

I THINK 1 STAR RATING IS PUSHING IT!!! THIS MAY HAVE BEEN THE WORST EXPERIENCE I HAVE EVER HAD RENTING A VEHICLE... I WISH I HAD A TIME CAPSULE AND COULD TRAVEL BACK IN TIME AND SAVE MYSELF FROM DEALING WITH THESE INCOMPETENT MORONS.

IT ALL STARTED WITH ME PICKING UP MY PREPAID RENTAL. AS SOON AS I ARRIVED SOME COMPLETE PRICK OF INDIAN ANCESTRY AT THE COUNTER STARTED TO HIT ME WITH UNHIDDEN FEES AND RAISING MY INSURANCE POLICY LIKE $600 EXTRA(THIS AFTER I HAD ALREADY PREPAID EVERYTHING).

ALSO, THEY HAD THE AUDACITY TO CHARGE ME FOR A PARKING TICKET TWICE, ALONG WITH LATE FEES.

THE CUSTOMER SERVICE IS SECOND TO NONE WHEN IT COMES TO HORRIBLE SERVICE. THE ONLY POSITIVE A LADY NAMED PENNY WHO HELPED ME WHEN ALL THE OTHER DUMBASSES DIDNT.

PLEASE,PLEASE,PLEASE,PLEASE STAY AWAY FROM THIS RENTAL CAR COMPANY OR FROM EVER DOING BUSINESS WITH THEM. YOU WILL REGRET NOT TAKING MY ADVICE IF YOU DID.

Was very crowded, loud, unorganized, signs and stations (including waiting area) are covered in dust due to construction, the line was out of control, people and luggages were everywhere (was confusing), washroom smelled, the Malibu they rented us needed an oil change like asap, with only 8 percent of oil life left. Get it together Dollar! Shuttle buses are not the cleanest but I appreciate their service.

There is absolutely nothing good about this location except the fact you can chose a car when they are not busy.

Apart from that they are the rudest people i have ever dealt with and being called a little white boy from the manager is not the way to make friends.

Long and short of it i have had a hire suv for 2 months now and when i went to extend it i was faced with unnecessary verbal and intimidating abuse for absolutely no reason at all.

There is such a thing as a bad day so after i walked out yesterday and called their head office they were FORCED to do what they should have done the day before.

Problem being now that the suv Ive been given has seen better days and has over 5 times what the last car did mileage wise. Tatty and old.

As a result after this 10 day period i will never book with this location and probably even dollar again as there is just no need search google for other providers and dont waste your time and energy arguing with these plebs.

When you check-in to pick up your car you will be charged an extra +/- $ 200,00 for insurance/ road help. Even when you mention multiple times that you only want what you booked online. Not possible .

If I could give it a half star I would. The only reason it even gets that is that at least the shuttle person was friendly, once he finally arrived. They don't send enough shuttles to the airport regularly, so you can wait for up to :30 easily. It took me over an hour and a half to get my car once the shuttle picked me up.

They had very few car selections and only two were left. I picked one and there was a line of people at the other one. Unfortunately, my car stank of cigarettes. Upon returning my vehicle, they did not review the cost with me and were very nearly rude. The shuttle left without me and I waited for the next shuttle.

I will never use Dollar Rent A Car again. You get what you pay for and paying more is worth a decent experience.

We had a TERRIBLE experience renting a car from this location on May 2nd. Starting with the overcrowded bus from the terminal, to the very long line to get served, to the totally inept person via the kiosk (I was forced to use the kiosk) who -- after trying to upsell everything including the kitchen sink - sent through the system someone else's contract, forcing me to start all over again with someone else. Then, there weren't any attendants in the lot to help me, so a lot person let me take a vehicle that might have been the next level up. At least the car was clean, fully-fueled and in good condition.

A tip to everyone: do not listen to the sales guy who says "you should and shouldn't pick this car", he said he liked a car which turned out having the worst mileage and he said "do not get" to the car with the best mileage. Always do your research on your phone in the lot when picking. He recommended to us a JEEP. Such a dissapointment. Also it takes forever to get a car and sometimes when all the good cars are taken you're stuck with a bunch of cheap sucky cars..

Grab your paperwork from car and hop in another in same rental class (compact, full, premium...) No human interaction until you get to the exit gate to show your license and contract!

Said I didn't want insurance...they added it on anyway.
Tried to convince me to take their fuel option where I take the car back empty which is more expensive. The reason they gave me for this option was because I was dropping the car off in Las Vegas I might struggle to find a fuel station within 10 miles of the drop off. (There's about 40 fuel stations within a 10 mile radius of the drop off) guess what, they added it on anyway.
I think if you come off a long flight you'll need to have your barings about you when dealing with these.
Further more, 2 other customers questioned charges on their rental whilst I was there.

The waiting times used to be horrible but the past three times I've used them have been very quick.

I think they've gone through a rebranding so it's much nicer now. It's a bit far from the airport so it felt like forever when waiting for the shuttle but it was understandable when we arrived. The shuttle also looks shady but the actual facility is decent and the staff was very friendly and helpful.

We were excited to land in the US, but was let down by this company. Waited 25 mins at LAX for the shuttle while similar shuttle buses for other companys went past every 5 mins. Finally went to pick up the car from their parking lot out back, only to find the keys were locked inside. Waited another 25 mins or so for someone to get the keys out in the heat. Never accepted Road Side Service, but was charged for it on my credit card upon my arrival back to Australia. They refuse to refund the transaction. I will never use Dollar again when we return to the US next year. I advise other people to do the same. They are thieves.

Waited over 30 min for a bus & then the bus driver took us to Fire Fly and told us he could not take us to Dollar and we needed to wait for another bus. Obviously he was wrong according to the other bus driver to helped us get there. I will never rent with Dollar at LAX.

You just have to be really careful that you can not turn something. The employee had added insurance and puncture protection without us asking and then wanted to have money. Of course we could deduct this, but now imagine there is a senior couple who do not know that .;)
Of course they are gutted. That's what I thought of the employees. During our trip once went to the service interval light. After a short phone call with dollars, we drove to a workshop, where this was fixed. Of course we did not have to pay anything for it.
Everything went smoothly with the delivery.

The clerk with an Arabic accent picked me up and made a $ 750 contract with several extras I did not request. I believed that it would be the deposit, that every rental company makes, for damages of the vehicle and that only enters the card if something happens. But the value went up for me! I called customer service and they told me they could not do anything and that I should be in one of the offices. So I was and one, who asked me to contact the Customer Service. I sent an email to CS to register, and they asked me to go to an office again. They were doing a push game push and did not solve anything. They charged me a fortune. I never use and never tell the company.

The girl behind the counter at LA told us we needed a toll pass and we had to pay for the full length of the trip, but we would be refunded the days we didn't need it as we only used 2 toll gates. This cost us $60 and when we returned the car (20 hours early) they refused to refund us and said it was wrong. Will never use again.

Flew into LA on a Thursday, got my luggage and went to the curb to await a van to the Dollar car rental store at the airport. Twenty-seven rental buses later, including nine from Hertz, a Dollar bus rolled to a stop. By the time we left the airport, every seat was full and three people were standing. Auspicious start it was not.

Walking into the Dollar store we were greeted with the entire snake line full, with spillage to within 15 feet of the entrance, well over a hundred people in all. Not how I imagined starting my trip. Overcoming my depression, I went to the front of the line to ask the person there how long he had been in line.

Two hours. He added the line was only about half as long when he arrived. (It was now 10:50). Imagining between three and four hours in line, I approached a customer representative and was told it had been like this since Memorial Day. Great. Three weeks have gone by and the company has done nothing about the problem.

I count the computer screens and there are 18 to serve customers. Eight have someone in front of them. I am told that calls have been made and additional people are on their way. Fifteen minutes later 6 terminals are occupied. I may have been lied to. I ask another representative at the counter a question. If I rented a car at another Dollar location, would I have to pay a drop-off fee? Yes, indeed I would. Something to do with a different franchise.

Good thing there was another rental car company nearby. I called. They had no line. I cancelled the Dollar car and walked two blocks to get another car. Saved myself two hours of standing in line.

When companies like dollar treat Customer Service as an oxymoron, how do they survive? Why does anyone rent from clowns like this? I know I won t in the future. Shame on anyone who does.

We were also charged unnecessary additional costs, the car was not ready and we got a smaller one after around 2 hours of waiting, even though we had reserved an SUV months before (!). The service is extremely bad and the staff are absolutely rude, arrogant and unprofessional! In addition, fees were charged afterwards that were never communicated. Absolute fraud !! It's cheap. Car is clean. Be careful about the checkout, they try to sell you things you may not need. For example, they ask about gas, pay a fee for them to fill, or buy the tank. They don't mention that you can fill the tank and return it for much cheaper. Listing and observation skills go a long way.

after you fully returned car back and signed all the bills and documents, and then after you go back to your country, Dollar will send you more bills and charged by your credit card directly that makes you don't even have chance or places to stop cuz they knew how difficult to appeal in overseas.

when I returned the car, the services said I didn't use any token, but then after I got back, they send the token bill and charged $35 directly from my credit card, and gas too. what a cheating company. never ever going to rent another car in Dollar.

This location was awesome! Effortless check in and out. Employees were attentive and quick to move through the long lines. All in all was a great experience and would recommend to anyone! Will definitely use when we visit California again.

Unfriendly from A-Z. Rented a car at dollar via cartrawler. Made advance payment. According to the contract, $ 160 to settle on the spot. But then got an invoice of over 1300 dollars !! Very unfriendly agent. Explained nothing. Just took my credit card and pulled it through without asking! Never again !!!

The slowest experience I've ever had renting a car, twice now. They push the upsells way way too hard, and they'll overcharge you too. The shuttle buses are few and slow between here and the airport. The only nicety is they'll let you pick your car from the row so you can ensure you have bluetooth/usb/etc. They also tend to be the cheapest, base price wise, for the area. Staff isn't rude but they're not overly polite either.

BEWARE, these guys use deceptive tactics to sneak extra charges onto your bill. We were charged for a 'premium roadside service' that was never explained to us or mentioned in any way. We weren't asked if we wanted the service, it was just added and concealed in a cryptic list of numbers. They will lead you to believe they're just taking a deposit in order to sneak these charges through and once you've signed the agreement they have what they need to complete the scam. A quick online search shows that this trick has been used on lots of customers. Go elsewhere or be diligent, they will try to rip you off.

UPDATE: the response below resulted in nothing positive. I got in touch with them as requested only to be told once again that they had no interest in respecting my complaint, essentially 'you signed it, too bad'. Don't assume these public responses result in any attempt to make amends for customers. It's most likely just an effort to create that appearance.

I did not like having to do an additional stop at the new outlet, but that's probably because of the parent company. I got a nice upgrade this time as well.

Nothing to see here folks. It's a totally standard car rental operation at LAX. The wait wasn't too terrible. The car was fine. You have to tell the clerk twice that you waive the extra insurance and will return the car with a full tank but otherwise the staff was fairly courteous.
