One of the best archeological sites in Greece. It is a pity that the ministry does not help a little for its promotion and care. Well done to the excellent staff.

Mycenae is the key site of the Mycenaean culture that flourished from 1600 to 1200. In the Iliad it s the only city state, next to Orchomenos, to be called a City of Gold , and with a good reason. The remains at Mycenae are mainly LHIIIb (13th century BC) when the Mycenaeans were at the height of their power, and the remains show this. The massive Cyclopean defence walls with a thickness up to 8 meters, the elaborate Megaron palace and of course the majestic Lion Gate, the first piece of monumental sculpture in proto-historic Europe. This is THE place to go for every lover of Homeros and Mycenaean architecture. The only downside is that it s super crowded in the summer season, with busses full of ignorant tourists, wanting to have a quick fix of early European history. The best moment to visit Mycenae is in the late season in the early morning, with a little luck you ll have the site for yourself for an hour or two.
Pleasant day spent wandering about the ruins, so much to learn about the past.
So far for some unrelated stones, the Israelis have nothing to do here. I haven't even heard the guide explain.
Amazing experience if you are into ancient history. To think about all the great heroes from the mythology. It is a must. Not far away from the village, and the bus goes there, you can see Argos. So be mindful that you can get them two done in just one day. The place where the bus stops on the crossroads as you leave the bus just walk that road that leads towards fields and that it seems that there is nothing. It is there but it will take like good 30mins of walking before you reach the tomb of Agamemnon.
Thousand years of greek history, a must site to visit
Unique history. Must also visit the museum next to ancient ruins!
Impressive complex of Mycenaean ruins that unfortunately can only be fully enjoyed by the hand of a guide or with a lot of previous information collection due to the lack of descriptive and indicator signs
Wonderful place to discover ! Landscape and ruins worth the trip !
The ruins are the stage of the story of a tragedy that occurred 3000 years ago. It is a wonderful place where you can feel the long ago that you cannot imagine.
One of the most beautiful doors still standing in peloponese, monumental!
Nice site to visit. The tombs are suggestive. The view of the surrounding mountains is very beautiful.
Fun detour, this archeological suite doesn't take long, but expect high traffic.
It is worth seeing and moving into the glory days of this place.
An "must see" archaeological site with an awesome museum too!
One of the "must see" in Greece. Place with special atmosphere...
There is still a lot to see here, I also found the area to be very well maintained.
Beautiful site! Very interesting and informative with lots of ruins and more a museum all that for 12 euro!
Well preserved archeological site of one of ancients Greece most important civilisation or a bunch of old rocks depending on your point of view. Get a guide so you aren't wandering aimlessly. It is an interesting enough site for historical buff so long it is presented in context.
Should have done more reading about the history of this place, but still enjoyed the views and atmosphere quite a lot. 12 EUR entry fee is quite hefty, but seems standard for Greece.
The experience of culture that lived here 3500 years ago is a magical experience. Finally, you can understand S owacki's experience contained in the poem "Agamemnon's Tomb". The ruins may not be as spectacular as in Athens, but the extent of excavations and the size of the city makes a really big impression.
And it's cheaper than in Athens.
This ruin is over 3000 years old, which makes the stone walls and the Lion Gate so impressive. I recommend visiting the small museum first to understand the ruins better later. There is nice road leading to the place, but your navigator might choose some of the small grovel roads by mistake, so be careful. My visit took about 2 h.
Very beautiful and historic site neat Athens.Ancient civilizations of greece

An interesting stop on the way to Nafplio. Lots of ruins to see. However you really need a guide to appreciate what you are looking at. You need at least 90 minutes to see the entire site and the museum. Admission to the site is 12 per person.
The advantage of having visited in June is that there were no tourists
In the same way as the other sites generally in Greece the site is maintained with scattered explanations
I can tell you that I'm going back for more time back in history. Great places to see.
What about the Mycenae at all, is something that MUST be used.
Colonial space ... especially the vaulted tombs !!!
It is very difficult for the tourist not expert in the matter, to get an idea of what life was like here. Few signs, no models, and too short texts. Of course it is a place of great historical importance but its value for money, 12, is not comparable to that of places such as the archaeological remains of Olympia or Delphi.
It is understood that the data available is very scarce, what is not understood is that it costs the same to enter here than to other better documented sites, of greater extension or in a better state of conservation.
It remained hidden under the eyes of everyone until Schliemann brought it back to light. An unmissable show
Beautiful archaeological site. Better than i was expecting. It takes about 2 hours to see the whole place. Make sure you carry enough water with you if you go on a hot day
One of the most amazing archaeological sites in Greece. Quite a long drive, but totally worth it.
One of the most important archeological places in Greece with great history and with the most amazing museum with so many greatest and beautiful archeological objects. Impressive view of the fields and panorama around you, with the monumental graves and gates on your way of exploring. The tickets of the museum are valid for three places, archeological place of Mycenae, for the museum and for the another archeological place 500meters down on road named Tomb of Agamemnon, king that lived in Mycenae and from him was stolen beautiful Helen and taken in Troia.
Superb view, and an advantage on other places, drawings representing what gave the structures originally!
Very nice visit, between history and mythologies. Very interesting museum even for children. To have
WOW!! The lion's gate! Very busy, but awesome ancient history.
We liked this place! A lot to see and explore with a family .
Modern museum with disabled access. Attention archaeological excavation site more complicated access for people with reduced mobility.
One of the greatest archaeological places in Greece.
a little expensive at 12 euros a person but and enjoyable couple of hours wandering around the site reading about the history. big tour groups get annoying sometimes if you find yourself stuck facing them on a narrow path. I think tickets get you into the main museum but we didnt have time to go. it's just ruins here, all the artefacts have been moved to museums.
Well worth it, expensive ticket but the site is very well maintained
The power of Mycenaean civilization and landscape magic.
