There's something to experience here no matter what time of year you come. They have different exhibitions, sometimes with actors, and you can enter a lot of the houses to see how people used to live. There's some stores and a baker selling things made with old recipes. Staff is always friendly and helpful. There's also some good opportunities to try different old-style foods. Christmas is my favourite time of year, since they break out the old Christmas recipes and fill the whole area with delicious smells. Some of the houses get decorated for Christmas out and in, and you can visit the old "Nisse" (or "Elf") for rice porridge and give him a wish list.

A wonderful living museum of Danish history. The origin and development of Aarhus is well described. Real people enact the people who lived and worked in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries. It is fun for all ages.

Very nice place with atmosphere of the past centuries and last decades. There are not only displays and expositions that give an idea how people lived, but real people who are in engaged in all sorts of activities from knitting to cooking. While we were there, the ladies offered us cup of coffee with pancakes, were very friendlly, and described how life looked like in the past.

The old town is a historical sight in the middle of Aarhus. The buildings has been collected from all over Denmark and brought here. The old town has 3 different and distinct zones. The first is medieval then 19th century and the last zone is placed in 1960s-70s. The place is really cosy and I heartedly recommend drinking a beer at one of the restaurants. The food is good too, but it's expensive and not in large amounts as you can expect from a museum. If you visit Aarhus or just jutland in general, then don't miss the opportunity.

Top notch historical structures. These saved and gathered historical structures are fantastic. Divided into periods, they are assembled in a fairly large village. Many different classes and crafts as well as time frames are represented. Good quality food is available. Sit and have a beer in the beer cellar. It's great.

It legit felt like a travel that takes you through not only the general middle ages and to an extent the viking times, but also the danish history, especially that of local Aarhus. Definetely recommendable for young and old imo. It's not disney world, but it's unique potentially entertaining.

Very nice way to go back a couple of centuries and see how people used to live.
Was very charming and interesting for me and my kids. I think it covered from 1700 to mid-1900.

There were a lot of wax-made figures doing the work that people used to do for example in a hat-making shop or a carpentry or a fashion shop for women at those times. There were also live people, wearing traditional clothes of those times, doing some of the stuff, like threading from wool and bakery. The most exciting part was the playfair, were you could ride on and play games that used to be played at the beginning of 20th century. The gentleman there was also kind and was wearing traditional clothes.

I somehow wished I could go back in time and live in those times, away from computers and tablets and phones. When people used to wear classy clothing that actually"covered" their bodies and made them so elegant.

There is quite a lot you can find in the Old Town ... Joke aside - Here is exciting! The staff is top notch, and contributes greatly to both an authentic and fantastic experience The area / park around is also beautiful and full of experiences - You can easily entertain the family for a whole day (or more) here!

Great old town and touristic park, it will make you travel through time and live the experience. It is a bit pricey for something you can enter and then you will end spending more money if you want to enjoy a coffee or a cake, or bring some souvenirs. But still worth the time and visit.

Amazing place. Probably the best experience we had in Denmark, along with Tivoli Gardens in Copenhagen. Den Gamle By is worth at least 4 solid hours of your time, maybe even 6 and you will not be bored for a minute, in spite of the high SummerSlam temperature. So well done, such attention to detail. You can really feel like you are in the 16th, 17th, 18th century and in 1970s Copenhagen. And it is. It a fake plastic Vegas gimmick....it is the real deal.... Don't miss it.

Exciting visit even though it was not brought to life. Clean and tidy everywhere, good handling of Corona. Lovely restaurant with good food, their toilets really good and clean. A visit for the whole family.

Absolutely spectacular! History brought to life, along with culture. Everything from early Viking times to the 1970s in a living museum. Delightful docents to help you find things, characters in period costumes staying wonderfully in character. We were there on a bit of a rainy day so perhaps they had more time but the merchant s kitchen maid invited us to sit down for a cup of coffee while she made a crepe which we sampled. Everything done in the authentic way from 1864. She and the farm hand that stopped by spoke of their typical day of work and the goings on of the time, and answered all of our questions. A pure delight!!
There are also a few interesting souvenirs from the time of whichever section you are visiting along with authentic restaurant settings and very nice food. Not at all typical tourist fare and at reasonable prices. We ate in Winekes Kaelder (Danish for cellar) and I can recommend it both for atmosphere and the food.

Always being informed and inspired for my work. This time brush binding. A place where the employees are good at telling about old times both in the grocery store and in the workshops. Will be back soon and take more quizzes in the history of Aarhus city.

Educational and entertaining at the same time especially when you are accompanied by your curious kids. Take the whole day to visit this place. It is better to go there as soon as they open so that you can cover all the places. The restaurant inside serves good quality Danish cuisine. Wonderful experience, indeed!

A large and entertaining open air museum. Of course, the older buildings are fascinating to see how Danes lived back then, but I was particularly attracted to the more recent exhibits of the 1970s! Even more crazy, they'll be opening an exhibit on 2014 in 2020. I think it's really cool they strive to cover all points on the timeline for future generations.

We visited on a Sunday. It wasn't too much people, so we could take our time walking through the buildings and taking a good look at the houses. The houses were beautifully decorated for each time period. It is free entrance for kids. Very well worth a visit if you are around or in Aarhus. Expect to spend at least 3 hours here! Recommended!

Very deserted. No actors at all. It was very dark inside all the houses. Not worth the 135 kr. Even the oldest houses look like regular houses in other towns in Denmark. The only nice thing was their underground museum.

beautiful, re-created old town with buildings transported from many parts of Denmark. A living museum with many demonstrations of old arts and crafts. An absolute must-see. Can easily spend several hours wandering the streets and buildings
