Always love visiting here. The new interactive features of the modern history section are amazing and make the experience fun for people of all ages. The bakery in the old section never fails to serve a wonderful selection of traditional sweets and the Christmas market is a great place to pick up gifts and decorations.

I could spend a whole day there, just when you thought you've seen every part of the old town, there's multiple smaller alleys and within the building to explore. Add on, the bakeries in there are excellent. Got to learn so much about Danish history, tools, work, buildings, culture, you name it!

I have never been so disappointed with something I was looking forward to. We stood like herring in a barrel and the distance markings and number of people in the small shops were neither observed by other guests nor by the staff. We left after a short time because it was too health insecure with all the people at this time, especially when there are no distance markings and when the staff does not enforce the max number of the different places even though we reprimanded it. There was also no hand alcohol in the toilet or in the room with boxes for bags / outerwear.

It was an eye opener to see how buildings / civilisation was some 1200 years ago. However the buildings became somewhat repetitive after awhile (half-timbered buildings etc.) and for the price point (DKK140), I would have preferred to do something else.

Great place to walk around. Nice architectures for different time periods. Very informative, also with English description except with some spelling mistake. It should be kopper pan for the kitchen instead of cobber :)

This small town was very interesting and entertaining ... There is something to discover everywhere and you should plan at least 3 hours to really see everything. Is really worth a trip. There are small stalls and shops, but in Denmark it always makes sense to bring your own food.

Open air museum located in Aarhus Botanical Gardens. The museum is organized into a small town with buildings and structures originally erected between the mid-15th century and late 20th century in various parts of Denmark and later moved to Aarhus. Interesting while providing visitors with a glimpse into Danish life through the last 5 centuries. A few hours is need to thoroughly and adequately experience the Old Town. Wineke s Cellar is highly recommend for a light lunch during your visit.

Wonderful open air museum; great recreation of a market town. There are many wonderful buildings to see. Most of the buildings were actually moved from various areas around the city to Den Gamble By, so you are experiencing the actual buildings of the past.

Den Gamble By was much larger than we expected. There was much to see and do; we spent most of the day here and we didn't quite see it all! If we are back in Aarhus, we will definitely come back and view the upcoming exhibits.

Great new and exciting exhibition about Aarhus from the Viking Age until today. Lots of good information in fine dissemination. New award winning beer sold only here: "Aarhus tells", tastes delicious. And then it's just exciting to visit the new old apartments and back yards.

It's amazing! It's an open air recreation of the Aarhus across centuries. I visited to get a better understanding of what life may have been like for my ancestors (last of my family left Aarhus in the late 1800s). It's easy to look at it as a fun museum, but when you really think about where you came from and what your ancestors lived through, it's an amazing experience.

Besides the personal side, it's clean, well organized, and huge! I spent 3 hours there and could have spent another 2 easily. There's an indoor museum that's one of the best I've ever been to. It's more experiential than others.

And it's relatively cheap.

Explore the history of the area thru 3 time periods. Information in English and Danish. Actors in period costume help to explain the lifestyles. Food and shops add to the authentic experience. October is free for students!

An amazing place which impresses me always. The surroundings of the old (original) houses, the atmosphere and the exhibitions all add up to a unique experience, a brush of traditional Denmark. Combined with christmas exhibition currently running it is amazing - also in cold and rainy weather there is plenty to see.

An amazing and comprehensive open air museum with beautiful heritage buildings from all parts of Denmark. It now also encompasses a great underground 'city of Aarhus' museum. Through interactive displays and novel museum techniques, it tells the city's history from the early Vikings to present day. Over the years I have brought many friends and family members to Den Gamle By and recommend it without hesitation. In my experience, it is a place that appeals to all ages and I feel it is a must if visiting Aarhus!

I have been to a few of this kind of open air museum town with relocated historic buildings. This is absolutely one of the best ones. You get a real sense of what life would have been like in the historic periods represented than any other place i have been to.

It is a Marvelous place!! It gives you an opportunity to go back in history. It is a small represantation of a village - with all its houses as it was a lot of years ago. Everything - from gas station, to kitchen, shops, stables, salons etc. Do not miss the change to look it to the window...and see all old belonings to another century.

A great place to learn and "feel" history. This location has a lot of old buildings, configured into city streets or quarters. Many of the houses have live or tactile excebitions, making the place feel alive. I learned a lot, while walking More

Loved this place. It was quiet and otherworldly at first but got very busy. Some of the staff were not welcoming or friendly...the needed a kick up the ass to remind them that jobs can be given and taken.
The bakery cafe was fabulous. You go order your tea/coffee and pastries first, pay and they are brought to your table.
Lots of photos opportunities!!
Lots of plants, flowers and nice places to enjoy the wild flowers.

Love the buildings and the realistic portrayals of life in various time periods. Terrible place for wheelchairs, make a reservation for one of their powered scooters (available free, but they only have a few). Note, even with the scooters, many buildings are not accessible, small doorways and many stairs.

This is an amazing museum and well worth a visit. We spent just over three hours and only managed to see two thirds of it - there is so much to see. Being a child of the 1970s, it was absolutely fantastic to walk through my childhood and the 1970s section. Bring good, sensible shoes as you will mostly be walking on cobbles. Parking in the area can be difficult so you may want to use nearby Q-Park multi-storey or use public transport.

Very nice open museum what is particularly good is the reconstruction of the internal decor or drafts. Games for the kids. You can eat a picnic there after hours if you are in you can carry walking around.
