I would like to give 5 star for an (otherwise) wonderful experience in the Old Town yesterday. But in these corona times, I did not feel safe at all! In several places it said "Max 2 or 4 people", but in most places there was WAY too many people in the different houses. Everyone knows we need to keep our distance, but no one obviously thinks about it when it's not written. I hope that I am still healthy in 14 days and therefore have not been infected and encourage the Old Town staff to get "distance signs" up.

Brilliant recreation of historical buildings and artifacts from all over Denmark from centuries ago to recent history. The shops and flats from the 1970s were especially fine in my opinion. Absolutely must see.

One of the free pleasures for children exciting is the toy museum - not very corona consideration, many people gathered in the buildings - fun playground with old games, appropriate price (corona prices)

Always worth a visit! When it's raining, you can enjoy the indoor exhibitions and a nice cup of hot chocolate at the bakery. When it's sunny, take a scroll and feel the atmosphere of old town or retro Denmark.

Amazing, worth the money! Spend 4-5 hours, you can come in most buildings and see how people lived and worked in different time in history. Visit the north eastern part with posters and a big museum in the basement.

Very nice place. In a summer day this is a must see place if you are in town. Much are to be learned from this place about how it all used to be. It got an amazing ambiance, good food, and a very nice staff. Even people dressed up like people used to back then. With the never addition of the 70-80s area, there's much more time to be spend here. And a very interesting underground area about the city from the time of vikings and forward.

I really enjoyed the 1970 replica homes and interviews with the residents of those homes. I gave me a good idea of more recent Danish Culture. The replica of the renowned Jazz Club was the highlight.

Very nicely designed for children with interactive games. Nicely laid out. Lots of seating to bring your own food. Several food stands and cafes available. Coarse cobblestones in the entire area. Therefore difficult to drive with a buggy.
Houses can be visited inside, interesting for the whole family

Been in Gamle By a couple of times. A really interesting experience to get to know a bit of danish history, see how they have lived since 19th century, talk to the local s, dressed up accordingly to each decade, see the surroundings they lived in. Personally for me, one of the most interesting buildings to visit was the apartments from the 70s era, seeing how the rooms might have been decorated, what the kitchen looked like, how the students lived etc. A definite recommendation if you are into history and like to know more about danish culture.

It was quite surprising. We didn't expect anything like this. It's nice to go in and out from the different buildings and get an idea of how it was to live in different times. There is also an area where there are games to try with kids (and not only).

A visit to Den Gamle By is a must when you are in Aarhus. Here you can see how the Danes lived a long time ago. There are very nice old half-timbered houses in which you can also go in and see how you lived back then. There are also some shops there. I found it very nice and interesting. I highly recommend a visit there.

What a wonderful walking museum! The buildings have been moved here from other parts of Denmark to create a small, walkable history. You can go inside many of the buildings. In the 1970s portion, there is a poster museum (mainly about Christiania) and a one-room clock exhibit on the bottom floor. There is a very well done toy museum, as well, telling the story of toys since the Renaissance. The current special exhibition is on the history of children's television.

You also walk through buildings from the 17th-19th centuries, seeing what exteriors and interiors were like, including some gardens. There are a couple of cafes, a couple of bakeries, and a small gift shop. There are a couple of buildings in the works. Overall so glad I went.

It was a long time since I had last been to the Old Town in Aarhus. It was certainly joy of reunion.
The only thing that was is BIG was that people do not keep their distance. It is deeply disrespectful.
Yes, people should be ashamed to push themselves forward, with the remark: "now you have been standing there for a long time, now I want to and see!"
What a setting, though.
I wish there was an opportunity to buy one:
- collected the dimas of all craftsmen (with text below each picture).
- a complete series of each house (with text below each picture).
- a total series of houses and crafts (and of course with text of crafts and houses).
Otherwise a nice day.
Sincerely
Dan Eiby

Nice place, many detailed information about historical houses etc.

If you want to see the complete museum you have to be there by opening-time otherwise there isn't enough time to see everything.

The old city is very unique and if your guidebook doesnt provide this danish unique experience then you might as well throw it away. One of the top 3 experiences and museums in east justland. Easy on a top10 in denmark. Lots of history from the early 1700's up and to today, with very interactive stories as well as reenactors who really give you a truly unique feeling of how people lived in denmark for the last few centuries.

This historical village represents the life in Denmark about 200 years ago, I presume it was the era of Hans Christian Andersen. Very significant piece of history, plus a ton of fun. There are many old houses into which you can enter, each with its own story. I recommend visiting during Christmas time when you can really catch the magical spirit of the place.
