Highly Recommended! If you like museums, especially open-air museums, exhibitions and culture, this is the place for you. Located in the middle of the city of Aarhus is a city from the Middle Ages. Old houses from all parts of Denmark have been built here since 1909. The peculiarity is that it is not a village ensemble, but that one tries to recreate a city. Almost all houses are accessible and have contemporary interior fittings. There are shoemakers, blacksmiths, undertakers and much more. The museum is populated with actors who support the illusion. You can buy little things to eat and souvenirs.

Fantastic surrounding. It opened up a new interest to study old buildings from 1800 in up until 1970. I spended more time there than expected and can recommend all to listen to the voice and read the signs there. Go for a lunch there to experience the atmosphere from back then.

THIS IS AMAZING PLACE! In Den Gamle By you jump into a time machine and teleport to three periods in Danish history. Learn the artisanship and daily life of 1850s, discover first car dealerships and check out how your parents used to live. Talk to people, learn how to prepare food in older way. The entry is quite expensive but definitely worth it! Must-see in Aarhus

It is then a nice and cozy place. But in my opinion, it quickly gets boring. Of course, that's because I'm not really interested in history. There are lots of things to see and you can also feel this atmosphere here around the 1800s.

A great open-air museum (which includes indoor exhibitions), highly recommended to anyone who wants to take a trip back in time and witness Danish life as it was in previous centuries.
Tip: wear solid shoes and watch your step : some of the steps and cobble stones can be a bit tricky, as they are literally from another century!

I love this place! It takes you back to hundres year earlier and shows people's daily life vividly. You can see how people work and live. There are a lot of inter-action programs, they're attractive and interesting and make yourself immerse to their stories.

Interesting place, you can feel the atmosphere of older cities. There are three parts here. One city from the middle of the 19th century - this is the largest part - the second from 1927 and the third from 1974. It is impressive. Lots of attractions for children, and adults will also find something for themselves. Everything in a neat way reflects the spirit of the epochs.

Very nice attraction, it is really affordable to get in and the amount of time you can spend in den gamle by is great.

Remember to bring study card, you get a 50% discount. Also there is parking close by at the botanical garden for free.

You can easily spend 4-5 hours, so prepare plenty of time to see it all.

Museum in the middle of Aarhus. Small antiquity meets modernity. Early in the morning you can still find parking spaces, then you walk a little more. Probably always a lot of people. We were there during the week, there is still space, on the weekend it is probably packed

Absolutely loved this place! Such rich history and what a way to step back in time. The self tour was so organic, you really could just explore everything by yourself. No strict laws to prevent vandals which made the whole experience better! You could step into rooms from another time!

Wonderful place - Denmark's history is right in front of you. Come in every open house - life of people who lived many years ago opens its secrets. Don't forget to visit houses in the modern part - you will find lots of unexpected interesting things.

One of our favorite places we visited on our 12 day Baltic Cruise. Allow at least 4 hours. Beautifully maintained and very interesting.
I loved everything about it, including the city it's in, Aarhus, which is beautiful. We needed more than a half day, and I would like to return to this city in Denmark and stay for a week. I highly recommend visiting Den Gamle By.

Like almost everything that requires entry in Denmark, "Den Gamle By" is not exactly cheap for German visitors, but it is really worth seeing. Descriptions are also everywhere in German. The facility is constantly being expanded, so a lot of new things can be seen after a few years. There is also something there for hunger, but this should be left to the rich. I ate the most expensive grill sausage of my life here (3x more expensive than in DE), but luckily it was also a sensationally delicious sausage made from reindeer meat. Experiences also want to be financed.

This place has a LOT of content so be prepared to spend half a day here at least. The open town houses are one thing but there's a massive indoor cultural museum (also where the clocks & watches exhibition is) that will easily consume 1+ hour. Overall an Aarhus must visit.

Spectacular! Definitely worth a visit. Interesting and creative museum. We expected a short visit but there was so much to explore that we ended up spending around 4 hours there. We rushed through as we had other places to visit but easily could have stayed another hour or two. We ate in the grill and I had the largest pork chop I have ever seen! Very tasty food. We found the entrance fee to be very reasonable and I would recommend this museum.

Lovely place. Unfortunately, the "city" side did not take covid into account, there were very few places where there were guidelines for the guests and there was overcrowding almost everywhere, which made it an annoying experience, unfortunately.

A trip to the past, it's a great shame you have to pay to get in! Be aware that the houses have been reconstructed after the war to look like old houses, but they aren't "originals"
