If you are looking for an old fashioned style place to stay this is the place to be. Its like going back in time. The hallways have a hit of "the shining" which is creepy and cool. The staff is super friendly and helpful and the rooms are very clean. The hotel does have a different smell but its not bad, its just the smell of an old building. The fireplace has real wood and also emits a nice incense smell. There is also a shuttle that takes you on demand to wherever you want to go in Saratoga Springs. The only negative is the in hotel restaurant. The waitstaff is attentive and amazing but the food lacked flavor. I had the flat iron steak amd it was not at all what I expected.

Heating in many room didnt work properly and if its working its super noisy. Staff not so great. Restaurants is expensive and the staf at the entrance is playing on is phone instead of helping. Not every bathroom have changing table and its really hard to have a late check out to accomodate a baby. The Building is verry cold. I was in a deluxe room and not sure what is the luxe in it. Theire was a bed a desk with a chair. And a chest of drawers with a tv.on it. No confortable seating. Clean no bug..

Worst experience possible. The staff is beyond rude and impossible to deal with. I had my wedding at the Hall of Springs and attempted to book rooms for myself and my guests as well as a brunch the next day. The staff was not helpful and went out of their way to make things difficult for us. They told our guests when they called to book rooms there that our room block was invalid, there were no rooms available (when indeed there were plenty), that we were not staying there, and the list goes on and on. They said they were going to do things that they never did. Every question took at least 3 calls to get an answer. Do yourself a HUGE favor and book elsewhere. You will save yourself a major headache in the end. The rooms were not even the greatest. Our "bridal suite" had a shower with no water pressure and the water did not drain. Gross.

I attended a conference there. I did not stay there. I stayed there in the past and was not thrilled. They do not provide free breakfast (one of my main requirements). The Hampton Inn and Embassy Suites in Downtown Saratoga gives you more bang for the buck and is about a 10 minute drive to the Gideon.

Beware Room 320 has BedBugs!
I reported it to the manager at the front desk but this was kind of met with a doubt rather than a compassionate response. I was told that hotel will bring a remediation company but I decided to checkout. Room itself is from 1960s at best. screaming for major overhaul.
Hotel is very dated and needs lots of renovation work, tons .

Older hotel, but with charm. Front desk staff very kind. Bring your own drinks or cash, as the vending machines only take cash. Rooms included a fridge, and were quite comfortable. Breakfast was good. We did book a spa package and that was fantastic.

Attended a wedding here. Grounds were pretty, ceremony room had great windows. Sinage was good in some settings but sparce in other hallways so finding your way around could be tricky. Food was good, salad tasted great. Service was good but a little too quick, couldn't leave anything unattended because they would assume you were done and take it right away. Overall it was nice, didn't stay over so can't speak about the rooms.

Nice setting and lots of walking trails to explore. Conference Centre is a bit stuffy and dry to spend all day in. Staff are friendly and courteous and the menu was tasty.
Rooms are clean and nice but the whole building was hot! It was the winter and we were sweating all day long.

I am giving this hotel one star. We booked a standard room with double beds for the weekend. The room was not clean and there was a big stain on the carpet. Wasn t worth the price of $179.00 per night.

The room we stayed in was nice, and the location of the hotel was beautiful. We stayed for brunch Sunday morning and it was very good, but not quite what was promised online (there was no crepe, omelet, or carving station) so we were a bit disappointed.

I cannot begin to describe how disappointed we are...

I cannot begin to describe how disappointed we are with the Gideon Putnam. We decided to come for the weekend to celebrate our anniversary. I was so excited because I had always heard how beautiful and opulent the Gideon Putman was.

We pulled up and the hotel looked beautiful! The location is perfect! Saratoga State Park is gorgeous! But that is were the fairy tale ended.

First, the parking lot is so far from the hotel. It wasn't horrible because it was a beautiful evening and the scenery is stunning. So after the hike I walk into the lobby.

Now it is like a Stephen King novel. Gorgeous from the outside but once you walk in, it changes. None of the expected opulence or elegance. Just old. I take the elevator up to our floor and walk into the thoroughly unimpressive room.

Within two minutes my wife screams 'don't unpack, we are not staying'. The room has bugs. BUGS!! Ten or more of the biggest earwigs I have ever seen. On the wall, the windows, and the bed.

So we go back to the front desk and tell them. The desk clerk acted as if it it was perfectly normal, saying because it is in a state park, they cannot use pesticides. We are given a different room; no sorry or anything.

So after fighting to get the luggage cart up a ramp that can not possibly be by code and into this tiny room we check for bugs - finding none we then unpack. I sit down on the bed which feels like a stone slab with a foam pad on it and survey the room.

The carpet is stained and worn. Very worn. I turn on the fan on the AC system and it sounds like someone threw a bag of rocks in a tumble dryer. The industrial gray walls give the warm feeling of a medium security prison.

The power outlets on the lamps do not work and the metal ball the security bar catches has been ripped off the door as if someone ran out of there in horror.

After about an hour of laying on that medieval torture bed, we called the front desk and told them we were canceling the next two nights. Again, no 'we're sorry' or 'what can we do to make things right'? They didn't even ask why!

To wrap this review up, I see where the owner replies to many reviews with the fact that he has 'spent millions on remodeling'. Honestly, I can not see it.

My wife booked us into the Saratoga Casino Hotel. The place is gorgeous with beautiful rooms and comfy beds.
Save yourself the hassle and money (the room was cheaper to boot) and skip the Gideon Dumpton.

A traditional inn, very comfortable and elegant. Recently remodeled, the heat and air conditioning along with the insulated window blinds keep the rooms exactly the way you choose. We love this place! Oh, and that doesn't begin to describe the beautiful state park with mineral springs and Roosevelt baths! We cross country skied before our mineral baths and massages. Feel great!

We drove to the Gideon Putnam near the end of October to view the Fall colors. The location of the hotel inside the Saratoga Spa State Park and near downtown Saratoga Springs was excellent. The hotel, however, was run down. Our premium covered porch room ($400/night) had peeling paint, a cracked window, missing window locks, and a noisy antiquated heating system. We cut short our trip by a day because we didn't want to sleep there for a third night. I wouldn't return unless they invested millions to upgrade the rooms.

What to know: The country s first wellness spa, built in 1935 during the Great Depression under President Franklin Roosevelt, was constructed to help people relax, and is an ideal way to take in the fall foliage or escape the pressure of the city.

How to Get There: Amtrak goes directly from New York City's Penn Station to Saratoga Springs, and the resort is just a few pleasant minutes walk from the rail station.

What to Do: Book a heavenly soak at one of the 42 baths, and relax in the simple pleasure of immersing in water sources straight from three springs: the Geyser, Coesa, and Hathorn. The water is heated at a comfortable 98-102 degrees. After a soak, you can visit the Saratoga Race Track to slake your thirst of watching thoroughbreds, or the Saratoga Automobile Museum, which is housed in a bottling plant renovated in 2000.

The property is right next to SPAC so we stay there when we attend concerts. The last time we were there two weeks ago, the thermostat was locked on 71 degrees the entire room was damp from the humidity. The doors to the room next to us as well as our own were so swollen from the dampness that people were slamming doors all night.

When we emailed no one even answered, indicative of the state of the rooms.

We live in Cleveland and we had a wedding here, I was shocked by the reviews after I booked and I have to say they are false. They went above and beyond and exceeded our expectations. Will definitely be coming back.

The food And presentation for last Sunday's buffet was very good. The only off-putting thing to say was the woman with a so called support dog that was covered in hair herself along with the leash she dragged the dog to the buffet with multiple times. This is when I lost my appetite seeing the so called support dog sniff the chaffing dishes as the owner seemed to be oblivious. Please have courtesy for other especially when paying 28 dollars a person. I ultimately blame the staff as they allowed this to happen with no objection. I understand people may need support animals but the buffet does not. Will not return anytime soon. Spent 450 very dollars for my wife's birthday brunch party and i am still discusted by the dog issue

I received a $700 gift card for the resort and had nothing but issues trying to use it. Our trip here fell short of our expectations of a resort that charges $299 a night. Our room was semi clean and the bathroom needed some serious work. The last straw was our experience at the Putnam restaurant. We watched the chef with his apron and toque leave the bathroom and proceed to call someone on his cellphone while making me wait for the omelet. When we spoke to the management and the front desk the said they were sorry but offered no other compensation for the disgusting breakfast. We will not be returning and I'm seeking out the general manager to discuss the many issues that need to be addressed in this resort.

Rob and the entire team at the Gideon were so easy to work with for our wedding a few weeks ago! They took care of all-day of responsibilities with ease and delivered on all their promises! Definitely recommended for couples who are on top of planning as their was some turnover in the beginning and sometimes it was difficult to get questions answered promptly via email. Overall, our guests had an amazing time and loved the food! We were thrilled with our choice to go with the Gideon for our celebration!

Large, well appointed rooms. Excellent restaurant in house, and great for meetings, conferences, or weddings. Located in Saratoga Spa SP; the grounds are gorgeous and there are a lot of recreational options essentially on site.

I was hoping this would have been better, an I am not a complainer. But this place was a total disappointment! Room never clean, dirty windows ,bathrooms floor . Ask them to get spider webs out of corners, they never showed up to even clean the room (the entire day). The air conditioner must be 30 years old ( noisy ).Beautiful grounds , friendly staff, But rooms are terrible. Stay elsewhere and visit the grounds.

Understated restaurant of Saratoga springs. Their original drink 'The Geyser' with ginger beer, vodka and lime juice is amazing. I am split between favorites vegetarian Inca Dish and Carnivorious Beef Stoganoff. The 1960s atmospheres is a historical relic from Franklin Roosevelt's WTA plan. I would take more lunch business here if they weren't at dinner prices. Gorgeous mural on the wall I could study for hours. 9/10

I think this old place has seen better days. It is not a bargain and it is not luxurious. A Hilton provides better rooms and often at a lower price. Paint peeling in the bathroom, drains do not drain. Its beautiful and its surroundings are very beautiful. But when you want a good nights rest, it lacks the basics that you come to expect for the prices they charge.

My wife and I are devastated that the Gideon Putnam canceled our wedding twice. The second time was two weeks before our wedding. Our family's had already drove down to New York from out of state and it was extremely embarrassing to have to tell them the news. 2 weeks was not enough time to plan a whole new wedding. We were not given any prior notice both times that they canceled. My wife had to hound them for a simple answer of what was going on with the hotel and they led us on saying they would have our wedding for sure! Trying to get ahold of anyone helpful at the hotel is like pulling teeth. Worst experience ever. Would not recommend planning an event there. We were having trouble planning this wedding with them even before the corona virus started.

I've stayed at the Gideon Putnam many times. It is a quaint old hotel But very clean & accommodating! If your snoody, ou don't belong here!!!! Enjoy life, this is a great spot reminiscent of the period for the hotel & area. Try it, you'll love it! In addition, I've never had a problem with the staff. Everyone is great & knowledgeable.

I attended a conference here with Parks staff and members of their affiliated friends groups from around New York State. The conference rooms were perfectly prepared, and hotel staff maintained a pleasant experience throughout the day-long affair. Breakfast and lunch were served buffet-style, and everything was delicious. The hotel setting and staff allowed attendees to focus on the task at hand by providing for all our needs.

After more than a decade at the Gideon Putnam Hotel, one might think it would be time to "move on," but for my husband and I that is not even a thought. Through the years we've seen many changes and we think they've all been for the best. It's not just the hotel itself, it's the people. From the moment we make our reservations Deanna Kirk is on it, making sure all our desires are met. She is not only extremely professional and knowledgeable but she is kind and caring. For years she has answered all of our questions, concerns, cares promptly. We just love her. Rich, the bell hop greats us like he knows us, that's pretty special to us. Shaunna at the reception desk, what a great personality! Always a warm hello, makes a point of knowing who you are and addressing you by name. We appreciate that Shaunna! The ladies who clean our room always have a smile and a hello, how was your year? We have not met one person working at the Gideon who hasn't been pleasant. It tells us that management treats them pretty well, and that says a lot. Linda, the hostess with the mostess in the Putnam Restaurant, she is a joy and a professional. So, thank you Deanna, Shaunna, our cleaning ladies, and all the wonderful men and women working at the hotel, we really appreciate you. Thank you for making it so that there will be "no moving on" for us!!

Very friendly staff - but unless you have an appreciation for historical and older buildings, steer clear. This is not going to have your ultra modern decor, state of the art fixtures, etc. This building is lovely and I've very much enjoyed my stay but I came with an understanding of the establishments theme.
