My husband, daughter and I were here June 16-20, 2018. This hotel is dated and has many things that need to be fixed. Our room was modest and in good shape but the first night we had a broken air conditioner. We also had a fridge and a Keurig coffee maker that was broken. The front desk staff were not very friendly nor helpful. They have zero customer service as far as knowledge of the area- where to rent bikes, where to swim (the Catherine pool was not open during the week in June!) We will not stay here again. I have heard that New Yorkers are not very friendly but these people put the U in UNfriendly. Delaware North needs to revamp their properties.

Great, friendly staff. Upon check-in have us a free upgrade to a room with our own private porch with a gorgeous view. Room was clean. We loved the vintage look and feel of the hotel, while at same time had all modern necessities (flat screen TV, Wi-Fi).

First time visit, one night stay. Front desk and staff very friendly and welcoming. Room was fine without any concerns.
Only negative was the in house restaurant.
The bar and main room looks cozy and quaint, but we were seated in the "portico" area.
Really, the portico , perhaps in summer is a useful overflow space. But in winter, it really is simply a hallway between the cozy main dining room, and a function room( read noisy 16 year old birthday bash) I have no problem with a gathering of teens for a party. But was disappointed the restaurant management thinks the portico seating area is usable.
My advice to guests, if you cannot be seated in main area, head into town.
My advice to restaurant management, stop using the portico area as part of the restaurant.
Face it- it's a hallway.

We've stayed here several times as part of a conference my husband attends every year. This time was certainly better than one stay in the past when we were on the 4th floor, it had a musty smell and there were ants in the bathroom.

We were on the 3rd this time. Room was clean and a nice size. Nice view of the back gardens. Bathroom was quite small and cramped. Outlets/charging ports: Yes, this is a standard part of any hotel review now. There were 2 charging ports on the alarm clock which was tethered to one side of the bedside table, some plugs behind the bedside table that were nearly inaccessible, a few outlets on the side of the big desk(about half worked.) Anyway, it would be nice to have accessible outlets on all sides of the beds and have them all working.

The first day, we left in the morning for several hours but the room still hadn't been cleaned when we got back, so we just skipped it. They did provide Towels. Coffee maker and fridge, no microwave.

Restaurant: Putnam's. We've mostly eaten breakfast here. The food is very good, a bit pricy($65 for breakfast for 2 adults, 2 kids, with beverages.) There is no kids menu for breakfast, only lunch/dinner, which probably accounts for some of the increased cost. I had the chorizo wrap with no chorizo:) Eggs, cheese, spinach, potato medley in a flour tortilla. Comes with purple, orange and red potato medley which was a bit salty but tasty. Good coffee. Good, friendly service.

Mother's Day brunch buffet was much more disorganized than previous years, selection of items was more down scale and there seemed to be less staff working. Overall it felt like a huge step down from earlier experiences, and was not representative of the normal caliber of this establishment. I'd wager there has been a change in management that has been detrimental to the image the hotel should be projecting.

This historic and elegant resort hotel tucked in the lovely, expansive state park is the best place to stay in Saratoga Springs, especially if you're going to SPAC. The food and the staff are outstanding. The Roosevelt Baths and Spa is pure heaven. Just the best!

As an Event Planner for my organization, I truly appreciated the helpfulness and kindness that the staff gave me. I would definitely recommend hosting events here - the food is wonderful, the location is lovely and the staff are all great!

Expensive but honestly on par for other equally luxurious hotels in the area. Cant be at the location with adequate parking lot. Right on the golf course and in the heart of Saratoga state park which is beautiful for a walk.

The hotel is a classic example of old chic: good looking, elegant, and a period specific hotel. Meaning that it has a lot of amenities and comforts but it is dated. AC in rooms is an add on, heating was not working well, the room's sound proofing was not strong. Hearing both neighbors easily and exterior noise.

The location is wonderful. Close to any number of amenities. Also surrounded by an oaky woodland. Just beautiful for walks.

Terrible service. Had money stole out of my room while I was away. Reported to the front desk. The lady who was supposedly in charge has taken no step to returning or figuring what happened to my money. Maids continued to knock on my door, even though I had the do not disturb sign out. One maid walked into my room while my sister was in there and said she thought her friend was in there, which is absurd because why would another maid be in a room with a do not disturb sign out. Would never recommend this place to anyone and would have felt more secure in a motel.

Stayed for one night then had brunch at the in hotel restaurant. The room was okay as we won the overnight stay in a raffle. On the other hand, the staff was very flexible on our date. The brunch was excellent!

We celebrated our 35th wedding anniversary at the hotel 2/29-3/4.
On the 29th we did our vow renewal in front of the fireplace in the lobby. I can not say enough about the staff in this hotel. They go above and beyond to make your stay comfortable and memorable. The suite we had was so nice beautiful and comfortable. Oh and the rose petals left on our bed along with the choclate
covered strawberries bottle of champagne the staff left in our room was such a nice touch.
The brunch on Sunday is a must. Love this hotel and its staff. Thanks for making our stay so wonderful!

Very friendly staff. Bed was very comfortable. Food was good, our bartender was wonderful. Amanda, the waitress is five star. Joggers, golfers, dog lovers, hikers - this is your place! We stay in Saratoga hotels often and prefer this hotel for it's surroundings, friendliness and the room had a classic feel. We agree with almost all the reviews here but, the staff make this hotel better than most. The cookies (upon request) in the room upon arrival were delicious. We will stay here again.

Very nice old hotel. Staff is very attentive and friendly. Rooms are very small and air conditioning was next to non existent. Location is great though and there is plenty of history within walking distance. Of your willing to give up some of the more modern ammenities this place is great.

Ordered the tuna burger and it was even better than I was expecting. Complimentary Saratoga chips were definitely nice, and they had a good variety of beer on tap. Service was good and quick, no complaints!

Waited on the phone for 10 minutes to make a reservation; no one ever picked up the phone. Called the front desk and told them about the problem; they put me back on the same ""reservation" line. Waited another 12 minutes and no one picked up the phone this time either. If this is any indication of the service at this resort, I think I'd be better off going somewhere else.

The location is wonderful and our room was nice. Unfortunately, the restaurant and bar staff are terrible. The bartender was inattentive and unwelcoming. During lunch time, there were dirty dishes left in the outdoor eating area from breakfast/brunch. The dirty dishes smelled and had bees flying around them. I had to notify our waiter to clean them.

The location of the Gideon Putnam hotel is absolutely beautiful, and the decor suits the location well. There is plenty of walking around the Gideon Putnam Hotel which can be accessed easily without any hassel. The food in the restaurant is great and the staff is friendly and knowledgeable.

The room was a little pricey for what you get. The rooms are dated and the front desk staff left a little too be desired (couldn't print receipt at check out and were very abrupt during booking). The grounds , however, were beautiful and a great place for the wedding we attended

Really loved it here. Go to the restaurant if you are seeing a show at SPAC... it's a classic environment but the food options are modern and kind of inventive. There was live music ... Very nice

Needs work.

Needs work.

I love the Gideon Putnam. I like the property, I like the history. The staff is always great as is the food.

However, the guest rooms are getting old and in need of significant upgrades. Especially the bathrooms which have old fixtures. My room had a shower curtain rod which was so loose that it was leaving dust around the tiles and was close to falling down.

Please fix this historic property and return it to its former glory.

The Gideon Putnam is a classic hotel with old world charm. It's park setting adds to the charm as the hotel sits in the beautiful Saratoga Springs park and is surrounded by natural springs and the SPAC (arts/music center)

The rooms are pretty standard for a "high end " hotel, IV been to motels @ 100 a night that have jacuzzi tubs and 3 beds , so at 175 $ for 1 bed in a small room that is dated with modern with cheap material , I'll probably stay in a cheaper alternative without all the excitement and traffic from the performing arts center ,

Our favorite place for Sunday brunch. Great food, great service. A little on the pricey side, but well worth it. The best thing is they never rush you. We have lingered there for three hours.

Very disappointing experience at the Gideon. The brunch is a trip we look forward to but this year's Father's Day brunch was a disappointing experience. So many people scheduled for the 11:00 seating and the food so poorly arranged that the line was out the door to even get to the food. The breakfast foods were all crammed into a far corner with only one tray of each food set up to feed everyone (one tray of French toast, one tray of bacon & sausage, etc) the very first items on the serve line were tarter and cocktail sauce? Yes shrimp was next but there was also cod across the room with no sauces so you had to slip into the line. Same with syrup for the French toast, it was located at the very last stop in the corner. The food selection was not what it has been in the past, not filled quickly, and the desserts were not even labelled despite peanut butter products sitting right next to other foods with obvious cross contamination. The worst part was when our daughter dropped a coffee mug which broke on the floor. We were told, don't worry about it we will clean it up when we reached down to get the pieces so no one got hurt. No one came and there were big pieces of jagged broken ceramics on the floor, under the table, and in the walkway. We pointed the pieces out, expressed concern that someone would slip, moved pieces that were large, but after 30 minutes we left and still no one had come. As we walked out we found that despite the main room being uncomfortably full of people, the other rooms were almost empty and the wait staff was standing around chatting. Finally, on the way out there was a group trying to assist a woman into a wheelchair. There was no staff from the hotel outside and no parking attendant despite the fact that it was pouring rain and a large number of older people attend. After realizing the problems the group were having I left my car and went to help them inside. The Gideon used to be an experience to enjoy a piece of history and luxury in our own beautiful park. Now I fear it's just another hotel with overpriced, poorly customer designed, lack of quality services that's resting on the laurels of who they used to be - A painted lady of Saratoga whose slip is showing. I hope this was just a misstep.

Absolutely amazing romantic anniversary weekend! I booked through a third party, working advantage, in which the hotel could not find my reservation. I was extremely stressed however the hotel was still able to accommodate us and even upgraded us to a porch suite. Although the bathroom didn't meet my ocd standards, the porch was beautiful and we loved the room. We also loved how convenient it was to everything we visited, either a short walk or less than 10 min drive, perfect location. The rocking chairs out front, the elevators, and the telephones in the lobby gave an old fashioned atmosphere which we loved. A special thank you to John for his generosity and Stephanie for her patience as well. We will definitely be back :-)

Building and site is beautiful. Rooms have a musty old smell. Bed was very comfortable. Bathroom was nice. Carpets are old worn and thin. Staff is cool and rather aloof. We were there on a very low weekend night. It was though we were invisible to staff. No real warm greetings or help.
Disappointed because it holds such possibility.

Truly not worth a single star for Hotel accommodations but the review will not post without highlighting a star. The rooms are old, the carpet smells like dog. The facility does allow pets but there are too many. The bathrooms are in serious need of work. The air conditioners are loud and we killed 5 mosquitoes in one night. The lobby furniture is worn and the facility is in severe need of painting and cleaning. Lack of amenities. Very disappointing for the price.
