We arrived at the autumn leaves of our Lake Placid and were fortunate to have found this hotel in the last minute (because we checked in and found that the rooms were booked out). We are a Marriott Platinum member, although there is nothing wrong with this hotel in this hotel, we live here for the price we paid,

The staff was friendly and helpful. The decor and furnishings are in desperate need of upgrading. Flowered wallpaper EVERYWHERE...two thumbs down. Beds were squeaky. The rooms had a musty smell.

First of all, in my bathroom...there was a pube, a dead fly, and another piece of something unknown on the wall of the shower. Everything seems to be dusty, outdated, and dirty. The key cards are easily deactivated electronically. There s only two pillows on the beds. The windows go to the courtyards within the hotel where a wedding is being held during my stay. There are very odd paintings throughout the rooms and the wallpaper and carpeting is extremely outdated. The elevators seem to be unsafe. I could go on and on, but i ll stop. 10/10 would not stay again. Gives me the vibe that I am going to be murdered or have a paranormal experience.

Visited the Desmond for a potential wedding venue. The hotel is very outdated with wallpaper probably dating back many centuries. The hallways smelt very musty as well. The staff was very pleasant but the overall feel from the hotel itself was mediocre.

Over the past five years, I have attended at least half a dozen conferences at The Desmond. Each of those times, the high-level of service stood out to me and I admire how hard the staff works with conference organizers to create such a seamless event. Overall, the venue is laid out similar to a colonial square and courtyards with skylights resemble actual city squares. In this regard, there's always a timeless appeal to the Desmond For some events, they will setup a trade show atmosphere in the courtyard to the point that you might overlook some of the window decorations and other fine touches. At other events, the room will be setup with roundtables for a meal only to have the hardworking crew start to break everything down to accommodate theater-style seating or open space for the next event to occur in that room. For buffets, the attendants will keep the trays of food together. For sit-down meals, I am always impressed with the talent the servers have at seamlessly sliding between the narrowest of passageways between seats. The staff are cheerful and attentive and are also members of the Hotel Trades Council, a fact which many employees proudly announce via lapel pins. You can tell they take pride in their work and their professionalism is why The Desmond is where so many conference organizers choose to hold their events year after year. I was once an overnight guest of the hotel about six or seven years ago while giving a talk at Siena College. I do not remember too much about the room other than the fact the its distance from the lobby made me realize what a large venue it really is. Also, I remember their hot tub got adequately hot and had good bubble pressure. All around, you can't go wrong at the Desmond.

Booked a Queen room and I got 2 doubles for my husband and I. The bed sheets were so crisp you wake up everytime you move. Hotel was so noisy all night long I got maybe 2 hours of sleep before an early morning flight. Thought the Desmond would be a whole lot more but it was no better than a Motel 6!

Had our family Xmad party here. Excellent tome was had by all. We had a conference room to gather in and they smartly put our rooms all together and next to this room. All rooms could use a bit of updating as the furniture shows some wear but everthing was functionable.

Truly a very special place that I will forever have a special memory in my heart. Pineapples have a new meaning now. Clean, friendly and the architectural design is so special with an opening in the middle that looks like you are taking a stroll in a downtown park with little lights twinkling over head, plants, trees and even a beautiful Koi fish pond. Amazing! Unforgettable.

It was our first time staying here and we loved it. My daughters came from Maine and Maryland and I came from Plattsburgh,NY. The excellent price was the deciding factor for staying there but the customer service and decor will have us coming back. My 2 year old granddaughter loved the courtyard and koi pond. We loved that she could walk and walk inside. The events happening there looked beautiful and my daughter even mentioned that it might be a good place for her wedding!! What an awesome weekend we had! My only complaint was that the pool was almost warm enough but the air was very cold. The whole pool area needs a little spiffing up. My granddaughter was very excited to swim but it was too cold to stay there long. Other than that, everything was delightful. Highly recommend!

The owners were extremely rude once I told them I also had a service animal as I booked in. They said they don't except pets no exceptions, regardless to the fact that I had a doctors letter in hand. They up right refused me. The lady then stood outside of the window and starred me down as I left, if I had money u would sue there a**
