Beautiful grounds, but for $500+ per night I had a bathroom badly in need of re-tiling and a tub that took 20 minutes to drain and did not get seen to after I reported it to the front desk. As a frequent visitor to Saratoga Springs, I had always wanted to stay here. Will definitely not be coming back.

Was at the Gideon Putnam for two family functions, both catered by the hotel. The dinner was simple but good, although there was an issue as we specifically asked for no ham sandwiches in the spread, and despite this there were many ham sandwiches. Brunch was better, delicious lox platter and even more black berries. Service was little aggressive: "no I am not done with that plate yet", but overall very pleasant.

This place should not advertise as being a luxury hotel.
Let me start by saying we stayed here soon after it reopened after months of extensive repairs required after a major water main break flooded the hotel. I assume the flood did not affect the upper floors where the rooms are, because I didn't see anything that looked recently upgraded.
We started in a single room with a kind size bed. Since we had been hiking all day, the first thing I did was to head straight into the shower. Unfortunately, the diverter wasn't actually diverting even half of the water from the tub spout into the shower head. After many calls to the front desk, someone finally picked up, and they said they were upgrading us to a suite for our troubles.
Once they moved our bags to the suite across the hall, we discovered a few annoying things about our new room. We were now going to be sleeping in a full size bed with a night stand on only one side (major downgrade from king), the light switches for part of the suite were located in the public hallway, there was no way to shut off the AC which was blasting freezing air even though it was under 60 degrees outside, and the glass in the window in the bathroom was broken. The next day we discovered that the hair dryer blew actual flames when turned on, and that many of the outlets in the room didn't work at all.
It was really conveniently located inside of the park, but I'm not sure I would stay here again.

The Gideon Putnam is a gorgeous venue for events, weddings, and more. The attention to detail in the architecture, the over all cleanliness of the building, and the vibe of luxury oozing from every room is amazing. Would recommend this venue for anyone looking for an upscale location to host his or her events.

Third annual visit to the Gideon a couple weeks ago. I sleep so well here which is unusual in a hotel. Recommend the porch suite though it was chilly on this visit. Great walking trails and very convenient to Saratoga restaurants. Shuttle driver was fantastic for our large group Saturday outings. Staff was accommodating. Our conference is moving elsewhere in the state, but this was a location I will miss. Hope to return for pure recreational visit.

Our stay was great. We loved our room and the grounds. We would definitely come back and already have talked about it. The area of Saratoga springs is beautiful. My only complaint is the bathroom. It was small and the sink location and door was kind of annoying. Overall a great experience

Beautiful hotel, great service. Any problems are quickly resolved. They even let me into the shop to get some midnight snacks, then got me ice from the bar (problem being vending or ice not available on every floor). Very friendly staff.

We usually try to stay in town when we go to the track, this was the only place available and we were pleasantly surprised. We have stayed in the winter for a romantic weekend so we thought we would give it a try. They have a shuttle that will take you to the track or into town. We came back and had drinks outside in the rocking chairs while listening to live music. My favorite is the chili, it is amazing. The breakfast was a little overpriced. The grounds are very nice for a walk in the morning and if you stay at the hotel you have the use of the Victoria pool, however there seems to be a line to get into it early, we did not visit it.

Mother's day brunch was obscenely overpriced, the selection was poor, the crab was stringy (refrozen?), and the drinks were worse than those at the local bar. Two stars only because the staff was decent.

Decent rooms, nice bathroom. The breakfast in the morning is not good at all... bad warmed over breakfast sandwiches and the woman running the breakfast gave me a hard time for taking 2 coffee cups for the hot coffee instead of using a sleeve. Not a good way to start your day. I won t stay again.

This hotel is just dripping with charm and personality. It feels like I stepped into the Great Gatsby with Zelda and F Scott, if I stand still and close my eyes. Room service was top notch, and most importantly we were able to bring my fiancee's ankle biter furbaby. I adore these historic hotels that magically transport you back in time. I have zero complaints.

the resort is very nice and attractive, you can tell that it is old. our room was small but it worked for the night. the pool was overcrowded and everything was over priced. brunch is $30 per person which is quite expensive in my opinion. it really is a pain to get all the way over here from new jersey though

Beautiful old hotel. Could use some updating here & there; AC was noisy, lovely deep tub needs a grab bar. But overall a comfy stay and I wish we could've stayed a night or two more. Park is great for lazy walks.

Front desk agents never have a smile on their face almost feels as if guest interrupt them. The building is old but there are red bugs everywhere in the rooms and especially the bed. The location is beautiful and the hotel itself is nice.

Beautiful place, beautify rooms, fantastic food, but overall a really poor experience. We reserved a block of 8 rooms and overall spent well over 3 hours on the phone over 6 phone calls to reserve and still they were wrong when we arrived. Registration staff were mostly rude (they are probably used to reservations being wrong, but still no reason to be rude). Rooms were nice, but many problems with heat and air conditioning. Various species of insects were also guests in our rooms and had no intention of leaving. We were there for a conference and I was an organizer - the conference staff were extraordinarily incompetent and even double booked our event (how does that happen???). Both the men's and women's toilets in the conference center were flooded for an entire day. The place was unbearably hot the first day. Some real bright spots though: (1) Food was incredible and the food service staff both in the restaurant and the conference center were fantastic. The Bellmen were great and really tried to help us through some tough issues (clearly they had a lot of experience trouble shooting customer complaints!) The Gideon is located in a beautiful park and is located in a truly beautiful setting. The room we had (a suite) was beautifully furnished and comfortable except for our insect companions. Overall, this place could be so much better with good management who provide consistent training to their staff and enforce high quality standards.

ADDENDUM: After I posted this review, I spoke to Rebeca at the Gideon Putnam Hotel. She was quite gracious and promised that she would work with the staff to resolve the issues that I noted. I was extremely impressed with responsiveness. I am certainly willing to visit again to enjoy the wonderful rooms and the great food.

Had brunch in the restaurant, good selection of breakfast and lunch foods, breads, salads, and desserts. Went back one too many times and ate too much, but that's because the food was really good.

Dont bother with these guys. We wanted to have our wedding here. We submitted 2 requests for information, called, and emailed several times. We never heard back at all. Plenty of other lovely places in the area to waste any more time trying to get information out of people who clearly don't want our business.

Lovely location. Very Friendly, helpful staff.

The building is old, but the rooms are nice size. We had issues with both the blinds and the TV, but they were corrected almost as soon as we mentioned the problems. It is rare for so many staff to ask if there is anything they can do for you, and mean it! I am truly I pressed with the service!

My family and I stayed for the New Years week end and we had the best time. I almost cancelled our trip last minute because we have 3 teenagers and I was afraid they weren't going to have enough to do. I am so glad I didn't because we all had a great time and there was plenty to do. We bought the first night out pins and the town put on a great show with approx 70 different kinds of venues from comedy, magicians and every kind of musical act and they finished it off with a 30 minute firework display at midnight. The down town area was a lot of fun with many different kinds of restaurants, bars and shops to choose from. The hotel had so much character and the grounds were amazing with all kinds of walking paths, hiking and free snow shoeing that we did to the geysers in the state park located behind the hotel. If you like skating bring your skates because there's a big outdoor rink behind the hotel. We also tried there mineral baths that were so relaxing. To top it off we decided to go snowmobiling at Lake George that was only a half an hour ride from the hotel and that was a big hit with the family.

Rooms very clean but small. Valet staff very friendly and helpful. Bar/restaurant staff were terrible We sat down and waited 20 min without staff even acknowledging we were there so we left and went into town for dinner and drinks. We tried again for breakfast, waitress was rude and acted like we were an inconvenience. We paid for our room through Hotwire then when we checked out we were charged additional $20/day convience charge, not sure what this was for, one of the 3 days we were there room service did not even service our room.
