Check the reviews prior to going, was kinda worried. Once i was there everybody was friendly and helpful. I expected to be there for hours, but after the app process i was in and out took an hr tops!
Frustrated and worried!!! No body answers their phone!!! Case worker never answers left multiple messages. I need medical assistance ASAP. I really don't know what to do at this point.
Rude, lazy and inconsiderate staff. If you have a problem working with the public....why get a customer service position? Phone always at capacity level even at 730 when the line is first opened. Really sad and disturbing how they treat people. When will someone intervene? !?!
I have been dealing with this office for over 7 years and it never gets any better. Every time I have to do a renewal I have to come back down to the office. They never do their job!!! I haven t had any benefits for over 2 months and it s still showing active Do better DEKALB
This is ridiculous no chairs for people to sit down there's old people sick people and children standing up for hours waiting to be called. Supervisor stand around watching workers instead of helping people that is very irritating. If people didn't have to be here they wouldn't be here something has got to change
Bruh I ve been waiting 4months for them to make a change in my food stamps, why am I still waiting??? I ve turned in all my paperwork and still nothing this is really frustrating when you have a child at home hungry because there s no food in the house!! In my experience there are a few decent Food Stamp caseworkers here, professional/respectful/respectable/concerned & compassionate people. AS FAR AS THE C.P.S. DIVISION HERE, I ONLY KNOW OF ONE CASEWORKER WHO REALLY WORKS WITH & FOR HER CLIENTS {BOTH THE CHILD{REN} & PARENT WHO NEEDS GUIDANCE, EMPATHY, ASSISTANCE, HONESTY, AND A SECOND CHANCE. THEY HAVE FAR TOO MANY CASEWORKERS & SUPERVISORS WHO EITHER DON"T KNOW HOW TO DO THEIR JOBS PROPERLY OR JUST DON"T CARE AND GETTING PAST THEM TO EVEN ATTEMPT TO GET THINGS STRAIGHTENED OUT IS HARDER THAN PULLING HENS TEETH. I HAVE TRIED EVERYTHING SHORT OF CONTACTING SOME NEWS STATIONS TO GAIN SOME POSITIVE RESULTS, BUT HAVE BEEN DEFLECTED OR SIMPLY IGNORED. NOT ONLY WILL THESE CASE WORKERS LIE OR ALLOW LIES TO BE TOLD IN COURT, THEY WILL DODGE CONCERNS, NOT REPORT WRONG-DOINGS, AND WORK AGAINST THE PEOPLE THAT ARE SUPPOSED TO BE THEIR CLIENTS INTERESTS MANY DEGREES HARDER THAN THEY WORK TO ASSIST THEIR CLIENTS. A GOOD MANY OF THESE CASEWORKERS TAKE THIS JOB FOR THE ABILITY TO ABUSE THEIR POWERS OVER OTHER PEOPLES LIVES & FAMILIES AND TO LORD THEIR OPINIONS {WHICH SHOULD ACTUALLY NEVER BE KNOWN TO THEIR CLIENTS}, OVER THEIR CLIENTS. THERE SHOULD BE MUCH MORE STRICT & STRINGENT OVERSIGHT OVER THESE C.P.S. CASEWORKERS & THOSE WHO SUB-CONTRACT FOR CERTAIN POSITIONS WITH THEM. CHILD ADVOCATES SHOULD ALSO NOT BE ALLOWED TO GO INTO COURT AND LIE IN FRONT OF A JUDGE WITH NO REPRECUSSIONS AGAINST THEM, CAUSING FAMILIES/CHILDREN MORE SEPARATION, PAIN, DISCOMFORT, AND LOSS.
Fill out application June 27 for food stamps and medical still haven't got anything back for medical kids need paper work from doctors to go back to school been calling supervisor since August. Have yet to get a response.. Talked to several people that said the supervisor didn't put my medical application in... Can't get no answer on the customer service number this is by far the worse experience I have ever had... Fulton county was better than this altogether
This department is really messed up, I was trying to contact my Mom's case worker for about 4 months, no replay at all, e-mailed her no replay, call her and her voice mail is full. This is unacceptable.
The worst place ever! You go there to get help and they have you waiting for hours before you can even see anyone, and then if you get to see anyone they tell you the system is down. So therfore you've waited hours and still nothing. And you would think with all the technology they have today they would have a better system to work with.
It s just another paycheck for them. The staff is Extremely Rude with the Officers on watch as well! They lied about the status of the applications to keep the line moving. Telling you it s approved when it s not. The police officers on duty stated, If y all applied this much energy into looking for a job, then you wouldn t be in here applying for benefits! Not only is there a lack of empathy for people struggling but to not want to help someone and this is your job, is crazy to me! No one answers the phone so be very cautious when there.
Had to be in line for four hours.Missed my classes in college.Had uploaded and submitted all the required documents on time as they said it would be faster and need not have to send the papers for renewal but my all benefits got stopped and case was closed.I know, I am still eligible for the benefits but ..... Still waiting to be contacted by them as they assured me they would.
Case workers are doing very silly mistakes and consequently, hurry to deny services. Very difficult to get case worker or supervisors by phone. It is easier to call and get response of GA Governor than these staff.
Greetings to the reader, I will discuss me and my relative's experience with conversing with DeKalb County Division of Family and Children Services. A situation began in 2013 - 2014 when gang members resided across the street from my residence, which resulted with harassment and death threats by making gun gestures. One incident also began with the "mother" of the criminals mentioning selling food stamps to her son's girlfriend. When a relative reported that crime and that the girlfriend and the son who were prohibited to live in the house due to limitation of housing for Section 8, the gang member and his girlfriend moved out a day before a DFCS employee came to visit. What reason will you inform the tenant that you are visiting, giving the individual time to move out? I have attempted to contact by email to report the foolish decision of calling the "mother" and to report that they were gang members continued selling food stamps and marijuana in the house, but that attempt did not help. Phone calls were rarely returned and the emails such as to Commissioner Stan Watson were rarely replied to and viewed seriously. Family and Children services, DeKalb East Precinct and H.U.D negligence has resulted these individuals continuing their illicit activities and shooting my residence twice (once with a paint gun and the second with actual guns). The decision is the viewer, but I will not recommend any of the three businesses to contact for assistance. I await when the truth is exposed to the media on their apathy and lack of professionalism while being paid to do this.
It's the most horrible office when It comes to getting them on the phone, they tell you to leave a message but the mail box is full or they will never return the call . You just have to go there. If they would just answer the phones and do things electronically their job would be a lot easier for them and for everybody else. Its ran like a third world country even worse.
Every renewal they magicly don't get the forms you send via the app and auto deny your application making you have to travel to their office and sit for 6 hours while they talk and bs in their phones.place is a joke..
A case worker name D. Preston cut off my stamps because he say I failed to verify my childrens identity and income. I gave them my income info a couple of months ago when I came in for a renewal. I never recieved a call, message, email, or mail. Smh. They just cut them off at anytime. They really do not care about people at all, even if you are working on getting things together in your life so you won't need the assistance. Just smh. Doing my best to report him, he needs to be fired because nothing on my case is a lie in the first place for him to just cut them off, he also failed to communicate.
An individual by the name of H. Stevens has fraudulently opened a case under my name and has given false information. I do not nor have I ever lived in the county that this case has curiously opened up in. Someone has opened this case to receive personal and financial gain.
Absolutely awful in most ways. The one redeeming quality here is that the people are generally nice and helpful enough... if you ever manage to talk to an actual person. Otherwise, be prepared for long hours submitting and resubmitting forms, explaining your income/living situation 5 different ways, and generally being unable to force through any change on your account without taking a full day to ensure it happens.
Mrs. Turner, an intake worker, was 2 hours late calling me for my phone interview. When I asked to reschedule, she hung up. I called her back to get a time for the next phone interview. At this point she gets really nasty and says she'll just mail me my information. I ask for her supervisor's name and number. She refused to give it to me and hung up on me, I checked my application status on line and it said denied because I missed a phone interview, which I did not. In an already stressful situation, she was very rude, unwilling to assist, and showed no professionalism. She does not need to be working with the public, as she is rude and unwilling to do her job. Fire that scum bucket!
I did my review on the 29th suppose to get stamps on the 13th. No stamps come. I go up on the 13th. She tells me anything submitted after the 15th will be a delay. And she said the case worker has until the 29th to review my case. I had no oroblem with that.all I then asked was for her to check and make sure all my stuff was submitted right. She LOOKED AND SAID YES!!!! Okay Fine. 29th come. Nothing! Im checking portal like crazy. Finally Last night I check again after 5 .The damn case is closed!!!! Why??? Because it says certification not done!!!! What the entire heck! This office is horrible and it is always something. I have even called and left a message. They never pick up or call back! This is an outrage playing with people and they kids. Knowing Summer is in and the kids are OUT OF SCHOOL
I can NEVER reach anyone via phone. They've made it to where you HAVE to go up there to get ANY service. And when you go sometimes its still terrible service. Not many good things I can say about this place. This place is trash.
I wish I could rate this place in negative numbers. First off this department is the worse from unfriendly staff to women who basically don't want to do their jobs. They never answer the phones or call back when you leave a message. I know two women in particular but won't put their names on here. You guys are supposed to help families who are genuinely in need but instead you sit around on your lazy asses. Your job isn't hard just process everything in an efficent and organized manner which you can't even do. By far the worst customer service I ever recieved. I pay taxes out of my checks to provide for these programs and the ONE TIME I decide to use what I contribute too you give me the run around. This department should fire all of you and hire people who care.

Bad service, When you call you can't get anyone on the phone. When you fax your information in they still don't get it. I want into the place and wait in long line for hours and when I did my application I was still sent home and couldn't be seen on the same day. this place is very unprofessional and does not get the job done. I received my paper saying how much I was getting with no interview and did I not send in or off of anything for my income l. Horrible horrible place.
Unprofessional staff I came from another state and never seen nothing like this. They talk to you any kind of way and they don t do their job. Came up here four times because they denied my food stamps and approved my medical assistance which didn t make any sense. I gave them all the documentations they needed I had two interviews and the fourth time I went up there the worker said she didn t see where I got interviewed twice in the system. These people need to be reported and audited by the state. How they act and treat people is disrespectful they re discriminating instead of helping people who needs assistance to provide for their families. They need to be reported to the news for their lack of help, unprofessionalism, and nasty attitudes.
Most horrific piece of hell on earth. No body moves, every body there is just numb to the whole world on slow motion except snack, lunch, coffee and nicotine breaks. Talking about personal ... . Nobody answers you. Dirty building horrible waist of taxes.
Of course I have had problems with the system, but the staff that I have come across have been helpful and pleasant. I guess it depends on how you approach them. I see most people approaching them with attitudes and they are returning what people are giving to them. I've worked in the roll of customer service which is what this is much like. They don't make the system, the system makes them do what they tell them to. Like I said, no matter how pissed off I am, I come to them in a good attitude and I get my stuff taken care of.
I was very pleased with the service and the amount of time it took to receive help and an appointment.The ladies all the way in the back are awesome. Thanks for making this a nice experience.
It's Horrible Been Down There Several Times And Call Every 10 Mins And Still Can't Get Any Help. THEY TURNED MY FOOD STAMPS OFF AND I CAN'T EVEN TALK TO A REAL PERSON.. I'VE CALLED EVERY NUMBER THEY HAVE AND STILL NO HELP.. THEY NEED HELP WITH CUSTOMER SERVICE AND MANNERS.. I CAN'T DEAL WITH IT
I had the absolute worst interview with Q. Burnett case worker number 702439. She was absolute hell rudest person ever. There is document I have to have that says my unemployment has been exhausted. However GA dept of labor haven t been doing their job either. So they just stopped my payments with no letter. I haven t received benefits in over 2 months. I explained this to her. And she said she couldn t help. Didn t even try. She told me I would continue to be hungry and laughed and hung the phone up in my face. I ll be moving forward to finding her supervisor. But these are the kind of people you have helping the less fortunate. She also told me her supervisor wouldn t call me back.
Please explain how you are transitioning to a new system but when I come into the local office for follow up on my application since no one emails or calls back I'm told "your in the new system and I don't have access to that?!" So you're telling me the local offices the people who we have to speak to for help aren't trained on the new system and have no access??? So they have to email a Gateway trained sup who is suppose to call me and if not my case will go to Gateway trained case worker.....still waiting on my call or email from such people and the call center is useless open from 7am-2pm, you can never get through no matter when you call. Hell at least in the old phone system you would be put on hold and eventually talk to someone but this new one just hangs up on you because they have reached there limit which seems to be anytime you call. Instead of making this better it's made it worse.

Just to ask for an application they will have you waiting in a line for an hour. No one knows anything really because they send me to one person to another and another and still don't get help. If i call, they never pick up and the mailbox is always full! It's always a drag having to deal with them
This is unbelievable...The quality of service in government offices in this country is comparable to those in third and fourth world countries in Asia and Africa.
I have been trying for 3 months to try to reach someone by phone, but the automated system always say. We cannot take your call we have reached capacity. This is at 8:00am in the morning. So I guess I will have to take off my job.
They are not working I sent my food st review to them 20 days of my review date they did not work on it they closed my case always is the same way last review they did review it but the case worker forgot to realeas the fund
The reviews are awful.I just moved here from NC.Call the state capital or governor they will cut funding if these people dont get some act right.Therefore they will loose their jobs.
I did my renewal online and then get a letter in the mail saying they closed my food stamp case because failure to cooperate! These people are ridiculous!!
This place is garbage as usual. For over a year we have been unable to reach anyone,leave a voicemail, or even get them to contact us. I'm starting to believe this is a mythical place bc it doesn't seem to exist if you go by anything they have ever done for anyone.
So, I was kinda apprehensive about this place because of the reviews. But for the amount of people that come here everyday, I'm not going to say that I was in and out, but the wait time was reasonable. Staff has been nice and courteous. If I had a question or was unsure about something, I was helped right then and there. Don't pay too much attention to the negative reviews because you can have a pleasant experience. Just treat others the way you would like to be treated and you should have no problems.
Update: Always go early and don't bother calling them they never pickup the phone and they will never call you back. I don't even know why they bother having a phone number.

I visited Dekalb county dfcs earlier this week and I had the pleasure of encountering Ms. Burnett at the windows. This lady here was my angel, I had been going through and lot and was not sure if I could make it but GOD!!!!! God gave her to me and she gave me all the compassion and talked to me and let me know that everything would be okay and reassured me that I can make it all I needed to do was have faith!!!!! I let down my guard and went ahead and applied for all programs and when I walked out of the office I had a since of security that everything will be ok. Thanks to that special worker, but her Supervisor Ms. Tinch I think I asked to speak to her because I wanted her to know Ms. Burnett was my angel, when I seen her a wave just flooded me and all I could do was cry Ms. Tinch gave me a hug and told me I can do it and it will be alright and just her spirit I believe her........ Thanks DFCS for this awesome experience...
This place sucks big time they love denying cases they have no heart at all. They supposed to help people not everyone is trying to abuse the system some just need help until they can get on they feet. If someone is in school and has a kid why would you deny them if they trying to better themselves. I think they just miserable people who just enjoy ruining people lives.
Worst country to apply any benefit. No one want to receive call. No one want to talk. When personally visited office, they told me to go home and call on number. Horrible situation. Why they promised to help, if they cannot. Very bad experience. Trying to reach from a month. Don t know what to do. Really need help.

I wish I never had to change counties for over a month the employees who work in the dekalb office have been unprofessional and unhelpful. You would think that if the people they are supposed to serve didn't help than they wouldn't have a job and should be more courteous not on their phone while talking to you and actually doing work for which they get paid for.
You stand in long lines forever while imcompotent employees with attitude are at the window. There are 5 to 6 windows but only 1 or 2 are open. Don't even try getting someone on the phone. That's just impossible. By far the worst business in history
I, like almost every other person reviewing have experienced all that's been described. However, yesterday i encountered a true angel that works there. Ms. Merriweather gave me exceptional service and quite possibly saved my life just by having empathy and actually listening to me. She made the necessary changes and had my stamps on by the next day. I hope she sees this so she knows how grateful i am there is at least one beautiful human at dfcs! thank you ma'am!
If I could rate them a zero I would.. I renewed my benifts three times and it keep saying I didn't renew it.. these people cut my food stamps off at my time of need my job has been cutting my hours so badly.. the people that work here seem to not care about no ones feelings but their own... I say they need to replace them all.
I did my Snap Benefits application and turned in the necessary paperwork that was asked of me. My benefits still got cut. I took additional paperwork back up there and request that I speak to a supervisor. Well I had to wait two hours to speak to a supervisor and when I did she was rude and she was over talking me. She didn't even try to let me explain my situation. I just checked Georgia Gateway to see if the corrections had been made, and they still haven't corrected the problem. This is the most unorganized government building I've ever been in. Some of these workers need to be re- trained and have more compassion for people!
Horrible. Ive been back and forth with this office since 2003 and they have always cut my stamps and Medicaid off claiming they didnt recieve my paperwork. I cant reach anyone. I was asked to renew for medicaid march 19 i renewed the next day and had my employer to fill out an 809 and check stubs they were sent in on the 21st and now im getting letters and messages saying "hey its time to renew". Bs! Its been a whole month. I called and the Medicaid person told me to check back again after a few days. The system may have not updated yet. Bs again. I now am off of work from a new job trying to give them more paperwork for the same issue. What is the purpose of compass? I am a single mother so that means im missing a day of pay that is well needed. Now i may have a ripple effect of small life issues just because of the system neglecting to do their jobs properly. Something has to change.
This place is awful, but I do want to think Ms. Jolly for her helping me. She helped assisting me with my benefits and talking/calming me down when I got really got up set with the staff. The receptionist that passed the ticket and worked 11/7/18 around 12-1pm thank you too as well. I didn't catch her name, but brief description she is light skin with a pony tail. I appreciate your patience and understanding. I wish that it was more case workers and staff like these two ladies. They didn't call security on me when I got really upset. Instead the receptionist told me to calm down and Ms. Jolly met me in the bathroom to assist me further.
I don t understand why work in this line of work and there s no sympathy or sense of urgency to help people. The office is has a staff of unprofessional employees and it s under staffed. It s crazy how some of the ones who s applying for these benefits wouldn t need them if the office would HIRE! You listen to a long recording telling you to leave a message to a full voice mail. Things need to get better here ASAP!
At that time, I wasn't aware when this service was moved to another location. I copied the address and found the place. When I came to the office. This is very confused. This does not please me
I applied for assistance and needed to return with some additional information within two weeks of applying. However, I returned the same day with all the additional info that was needed. I was explained by case worker that I was approved and when I should receive my card in the mail. I waited for that date and decided to call two days after the date I was giving to check my status. I was told that my case was closed out on the same day I applied.... Wow!!!! After contacting the status line again, the young lady was very helpful, an amazingly she found all my paperwork that was turned in and didn't understand why my case was close. Now I'm calling day and night trying to locate case worker and numerous supervisors and unable to reach anyone!.... This is terrible and I pray that GOD steps in to help these people to realize, that NO ONE KNOWS when THEY may need assistance and to please treat people RIGHT!. an email and messages have been left and still NO return calls. UNBELIEVABLE!!!!!...
Worst system ever. How does a place that suppose to help you make things worst!? And don't let me get started on their automatic phone operator who hangs up on you everyday no matter what time of the day because their always over " capacity".
Angie, contacted DeKalb County DFCS about her food stamp case! I called the main number and spoke with Ms.C.Shanks. She was very professional and nice. She emailed the necessary case managers and explained the process to me. Mrs.C. Shanks was very helpful and professional!
Unfortunately I have to go here cuz I live in the area,otherwise would never want to deal with these people! First of all the way they make u wait is so humiliating,u stand in line which could take hours and the sad part is half of the room is empty where they can put chairs for people but don't! The workers are so unprofessional,would say 1 out of 10 is okay! Never get a chance to talk to my case manager and by the way need new hire new ones cuz these never do their job,something is always messed up where u have to go there cuz they never answer or return your phone call so basically this whole place needs new management,new everything!!! Experience there always unpleasant and LONGGGGGGG
