Proceed With Caution When Buying A Used Vehicle Here!!!
*** UPDATE 12/19: DCH Toyota had the Windshield taken off and reinstalled (resealed) and provided me with a loaner car for a couple of days. They took care of it at no charge. It wasn't what I wanted done but at least the car is fixed. Downside- they do not wash your car after service :( Thank you for making this right! I truly appreciate it!**
I purchased a 2016 Lexus NX 200T from DCH Toyota along with the 4 year/40,0000 mile extended warranty on July 22, 2019. Everything seemed fine with the car until it started raining in November. On 11/27/19 water began pouring inside my car through the upper console by the sunroof. I took my car that day to the DCH Toyota Service Department who instructed me to bring it back after Thanksgiving. I brought the car back to Service the following Monday, where they informed me to go to Lexus South Bay as this would be covered under the original manufacturer warranty (good thru 5/2020).
Lexus determined that the cause of the water leak was from a faulty seal around the windshield. Unfortunately, since the windshield is not an OEM/Lexus Windshield it would not be covered under the original manufacturer warranty or my extended warranty. To be clear... as long as this poorly installed, non-OEM windshield is on my car, any glass, water, or electrical damage resulting will not be covered! The cost of repair is $2400 for a new windshield with calibration of the cameras and labor!!! Wow! I purchased the extended warranty for a whopping additional $4K so that I could have peace of mind and it is completely useless for this.
I was referred back to DCH Toyota, to my Salesperson, and I spoke to a Sales Manager on several occasions. I felt they should take care of the repairs since they sold me the vehicle with this faulty part. It's just good business practice, right? Wrong! They concluded that they would remove the windshield and reseal it at a cost of $150-200, however, doing this will still make my extended warranty void if any other problems surface.
I contacted my insurance company because, at this point, a $500 deductible sounded reasonable to get my car restored to its original condition. Unfortunately, my insurance company informed me that only water damage to the vehicle will be covered and that they DO NOT cover wear and tear or improper manufacturing or placement of the windshield. My insurance also stated that they have never even heard of the glass manufacturer of the windshield on my car nor have they heard of a dealer allowing a vehicle to leave the lot with a non-OEM windshield.
At this point, I am beside myself. I ve used 4-5 lunch breaks and missed several hours from work trying to get this resolved. This ordeal has been a total nightmare and my car still isn't fixed. I cannot afford this, and I hope it doesn't rain again anytime soon. :(
