Service is good and maintenance crew is alert. Clean upkeep
I had a great experience with the leasing office, especially with Mr. Kelly. He is always patient and nice, he responses to your email very quickly. I needed to do a lease alteration which involves lots of paperwork and steps. I had more than 10+ questions and kept bothering him for a week. He is always nice to me and replied to my email fast. He made the lease alteration process very smooth and explained every single step clearly. Thank you!
Overall clean and good quiet place to live. Great facilities. Leasing office is responsive and friendly. They were always accessible whenever I had questions (Shoutout to Kathleen Ackers!). Maintenance responds to your work orders in order of urgency such as leaks get immediate attention....I was worried before moving in that about bugs and pests would be a problem based off reviews, but I ve only seen maybe like one bug. I m guessing a lot of those people that mentioned bug issue problems are people that probably don t clean (mop their floors, vacuum, sweep, etc) as much as they should be doing or doing a good thorough job of it hence why they have lots of problems. Or It could be their neighbors whose problems are unfortunately spilling over to them. I clean my place weekly, and haven t had any real issues.
The only reason why I didn t put five stars is because some rules aren t enforced as well as others. For example, the gym during COVID is supposed to be reserved before use on the app. However, it s routinely not. I brought it up with management once in email and another in person, but not much has changed. Also, many people aren t respectful of others when they don t wear their masks while walking around the gym when not engaged in exercise. I ve reminded a few they should, but many aren t receptive to it unfortunately.
DO NOT LIVE HERE. Place has roaches and lots of them. I even talked to some other residents and they mentioned having roaches as well. We did everything we could to keep them away (put food away, no plates out, no food out, etc.) and they were still there.
Do not recommend anyone living here.
The rent is also absurdly high for the quality of living.
The Resident Management team is tops. The Leasing Agents are very knowledgeable.
Very good experience! The appartments are awesome. Good customer service and great amenities!
I stayed here for a year and it worked out just fine. Maintenance was on top of things and you can't beat the great nature of Crystal City.
Great staff, extremely large apartments for the area at GREAT prices, and accessible to all parts of the city.
Lived here for a little over 3 years. Great location and amenities. This property is well managed. I can speak enough about Ashley's professionalism and responsiveness. Best property manager I've had to date.
The best thing about this place: location location location!!! It s seriously the best place to be in terms of proximity to the city, there are like 3 grocery stores within a mile, you can walk to shopping centers, etc. It lost two stars for two reasons:
1. It s expensive. I understand the need to compete with neighboring complexes, but I have linoleum floors and i don t have granite countertops or stainless steel. I think we overpay for the older style of an apartment. Also, they raised the price of the parking and the rent on us in the middle of a pandemic. It didn t seem considerate. While some places are lowering costs to help their residents, the very least they could have done was left the prices alone. They even charge you if you get locked out of your apartment if their leasing office is not open (and they re rarely open, see below) I m not talking LOSING the key, I m saying hey I left my key inside, can you get it open for me? It seems they do anything to make the extra buck.
2. The staff. There is new management, and so far, the new managers have seemed to be helpful, responsive, and compassionate. However, the leasing office and the concierge desk is frequently staffed with incompetent and unfriendly people. Often times, asking for a favor as a resident from the leasing office felt like I was inconveniencing them. The leasing office is never open during convenient times, only while everyone is at work (their odd ball hours are like 10-3, so by the time you re home, you can t get to them). One time, my key fob just stopped letting me into my apartment. I went downstairs and no one could figure out why it wasn t working, and the leasing office has to be the ones to get me a key. Well- it happened to be a holiday weekend so I didn t have a working key for 2 days because the leasing office did not inform me that I needed to reset it after renewing my lease. It has gotten a bit better, though. The new managers seem to be more willing to help me in a pinch, and I greatly appreciate them. In fact, they got something that had been broken for 8 months fixed the same week they started... after months of requesting it be fixed.
On top of location, the reason I gave THREE stars was because of two of their stars on staff. I can t write this review without giving a major shoutout to two of the best concierge workers I ve ever had: Yuri and Tiara! They are always friendly, they bend over backwards to solve problems, and they are so efficient and competent in completing tasks. I can t count how many times they have helped. Either it s Yuri personally going out of his way to take a large package up to my apartment or Tiara working around difficult situations to help me get into my apartment (like that one time when the leasing office staff never let me know the key needed to be reset when I renewed my lease - SO incompetent on the leasing staff s side.). Other than the two of them, the rest of the concierge people pale in comparison. Honestly, they should be in charge of training the rest - because too many of them do not know how to fix an issue when I have one and are incredibly unfriendly and mediocre.
Alas, I digress. I still live here and I ve renewed so they must be doing something right...
Been living here a year now. Love the location and the amenities are great!!
Just FYI, when i complained about someone smoking in the apartment and secondhand smoke can cause serious health problem, they emailed me back and said "Please note that we are not a smoke free building and residents are allowed to smoke in their apartments". This apartment is not a good choice if you want a smoke-free environment.
I've lived in a LOT of apartments and Crystal House is by far the best one I've lived in so far! Huge apartments, nice and new amenities (The pool is awesome), great location in Arlington and very friendly staff. Highly recommend :)
They require you to resign the lease about half a year ahead of the lease's termination. This pressure is, naturally, pretty unfair if you're unsure of your living situation come six months. If you delay the decision, they threaten you.
A substantial number of tenants are housed illegally, stuffing their rooms beyond the legal limit and posing a fire hazard as a result. Many people keep pets illegally as well.
A shocking number of staff here don't know what Reply All is, so if you and your suitemates need joint emails you will not get them.
Sometimes packages go to the wrong buildings because they only check first names and not last names. This is a huge problem if your name is quite common. Sometimes you get no package notifications even if your package arrives, sometimes your suitemates gets it and not you.
Some front desk staff members like to blast extremely vulgar music through the speaker system, subjugating all to dirty songs about having drugged-up sex in bathroom stalls. This is especially a problem if you have young children. There is no professionalism.
Sometimes you get lucky and the staff at the front desk give you a parking pass for free, which is nice if you have a friend visit for a few hours. Others pretend they are new to the job and charge you extra. It's hit-or-miss in that regard.
When maintenance enters the room they are very dirty and leave a mess, especially if you have hard-wood floors. I had a leakage issue for two years and every maintenance call to fix it was futile and always left the room in disarray, with dirty shoe stains all over the floor and carpet.
One time I choked in the swimming pool and the on-duty lifeguard did absolutely nothing to help me. Thankfully, a kind young person nearby was willing to help their fellow human being me not die.
Be kind to yourself: don't live here.
Crystal House is a fabulous apartment. There are many places to relax, study/work, or spend time with others. The concierge s are nothing less than kind. Truly a great place to live.
This is an amazing community! Apartments and ammenities are completely renovated! You have plenty of free activities so you can get to know your neighbours! The maintenance team is excelent! As well as concerge and everything!
Really recomend it!! And is just 2 minutes walk from the metro!
Crystal House is an outstanding place to live in, I really enjoyed my time during my 15 months lease. The apartment was prefect and clean when we received the keys, they care about their residents.
Friendly staff, great amenities, ontime maintenance, safe neighborhood, convenient location, many restaurants nearby, 10 minutes walking distance the pentagon mall and 5 minutes to the metro station and Costco. Also, there is a mini market in the building. I wish I could renew my lease but I moved out to another state.
I am giving each one of these five stars to Crystal House for one reason: Tiara at the concierge desk. What a pleasure during these dismal times to have such a friendly and helpful person there when you come in from a long day or need assistance with something. While some of the people who work at Crystal House are not so much a pleasure to work with, I've consistently been impressed by the concierge and maintenance staff. But then there are those who go above and beyond like Tiara.
Crystal House is AMAZING but you know what s even better than the actual place- TIFFANY! She s the event coordinator for the building and the events here were such a welcome surprise! It truly has exceeded our expectations and being new to the area, we ve even made friends here! We ve had a middle eastern night with belly dancers, a series of concerts including steel drums, and even a T-shirt printing party. SO FUN! Thank you Crystal House!
Been here since June 2018 and absolutely love the building and amenities. I especially love all of the new programs that have been happening lately- Crepe truck, dessert battle, etc.
I love living at Crystal house! Location is incredible, amenities are incredible, you get the occasional grumpy concierge at the front desk but overall the staff is really friendly. I love all of the social events they do! They really try to pick events to bring everyone together and make friends. Things such as trivia night, murder mystery, mixology class, paint nite. They put a lot of energy into this and I ve met some incredible friends through these events. The apartments are also really spacious. It is a great find for crystal/pentagon city area. I have also never seen any bugs and hardly ever hear my neighbors.
The only reason I gave it 4 stars is because of some of the issues with the non renovated unit that I currently rent. The dishwasher isn t great, a few things have broken like my kitchen sink and the knob on my stove. It s kind of understandable since it s not renovated but they seem to put more money into the units that make them more money (which are beautiful!). Can t totally fault them for that but just be prepared to get what you pay for here. That being said, maintenance is quick to respond to issues I am having. Overall, I would recommend!
This apartment has nice amenities but the A/C (most important) is not acceptable. System is so old that we cannot switch between heat and A/C in the transition months and it cannot keep up on warm day, like today. They claim that the A/C is a luxury but obviously too luxurious enough for this "Luxury" apartment.
Can't forget the picture (from today, 6/18/18 at 5:30 pm) of the antiquated thermostat (that isn't accurate) and the thermometer/humidity monitor to show an example.
This is very pet friendly apartment complex. Considering its proximity to the Crystal City metro, it is fairly priced. The staff is always welcoming and willing to hear my concerns. My biggest issues with the complex are the regularity with which the building elevators break down as well as the HVAC situation. The apartments are configured for one system at a time, either heat or cold. However, they too often take long to turn on the AC in the spring and are too quick to turn off the AC in the fall.
Crystal House is a wonderful place to live. The staff is responsive and friendly, the location is convenient and the amenities including the pool, rooftop terrace, and gym are very nice. Whenever we have a maintenance issue, we almost always receive a response within a day. We love how close it is to the metro, the Mount Vernon trail, and Pentagon City. The apartments are big, well-maintained and clean. I would definitely recommend living here.
Every tenant i know hates this place and cant wait to leave. They love to say they have "courtesy" services but then send you $100-$300 bill afterwards. By far the worst building I've ever lived in anywhere. Dirty, everything is always broken. Penalties for everything. My door wouldn't open, they charged me $100 to have someone open it. I rented two car spots but got a fine for parking in the wrong one...which was one of the spots i already paid for! Their garage dropped lime on my car and ruined the paint job. Delivery guy dropped off item and was towed before he got back down. They charged a fee to autopay rent, notified me that their system failed to charge me, acknowledged it was a system error YET still sent me a threat of eviction! By the end of my stay, water from the toilet above fell through my ceiling, the place smells like trash, hallways were dim and dour, they found new ways to charge you for keys, and now endless people trying to get free wifi in the lobby at all hours.
The new management team (Sharon Cotton) is on an absolute power trip. Oppressive, persistent, rude and unnecessary emails to all residents. Three emails today, one of which threatened residents with fines. Totally uncalled for.
The worst building I have ever seen, I just moved in and I saw the bathroom so dirty and they told me it needs several days to be cleaned, so what where can I use the bathroom for several days
Awesome apartment with great amenities! They also have weekly and monthly activities including free yoga, game nights, and giveaways!
Applied for this apartment, but regretted after reading all of these one-star comments.
If you happen to be reading this message, DO NOT RENT. Plus, you will never get your deposit back even if they promised to refund you. Also want to remind you that do not trust anything they tell you. Once they highly recommended a Studio next to the elevator and I asked if there was any noise -I looked at google comments and actually found some tenants complaining about the elevator noises while they said they never had noises complaint- they said no because they just want to find some fools to take it.
And YES, the PESTs are true.
I lived here for almost 2 years and I have to say it was an overall negative experience whenever I have to deal with the policy in this place. For the amount that you're paying, too many things are consistently broken, and the things they promise you at the beginning never show up. When I first moved in they said they were working on getting laundry rooms in each apartment and renovating the front area. A year and a half later I still didn't have a laundry room in the apartment, they finally finished up on the from front entrance area, the hallways still aren't great, and they've increase the price of the laundry room. Even after moving out I still had to deal with additional fees and still received emails for months about an apartment I no longer lived in. The staff isn't bad, but the policies are horrible and need to change.
The newly renovated units are nice, but the old ones can have problems (kitchen appliances/ bathroom drain etc). Common facilities are pretty good. Management can be tough to deal with, especially when you move out and try to finalize the outstanding fees.
MINUS STAR! NEVER EVER CONSIDER LIVING THERE!!! Crystal House charged me $3000 move-out fee, just because their cheap plastic kitchen counter grew mold and cracked during our occupancy (We lived in Crystal House for two years; it could've been just normal wear). We tried to negotiate with Crystal House since it was such an unfair charge. But they were so arrogant and blatantly sent our account to collection. My credit score was ruined all because of Crystal House. :(
I liked this place in terms of living but the services provided are not good. Like if there is a problem then it takes a lot of time for maintenance service to come. But apart from that place is really good. You will enjoy your stay.
ROACHES. I would strongly recommend avoiding this property. It is poorly managed and maintained. The property manager and office staff are unresponsive to tenants. In addition, maintenance requests are largely ignored. Worst of all the building has a large presence of vermin, booth cockroaches, and rats in common areas. My requests to have this resolved by management and maintenance were ignored.
I live here almost 2 years! It is a wonderful experience!
I have really enjoyed my time here at Crystal House apartments. They have taken good care of me during the year and half I ve been here and always been really professional.
Crystal House is nice and convenient place to call home. For me, everything is literally in walking distance or a metro ride away. The leasing staff is great, especially Ashley, Scott and Kathleen. Ashley is great and always quick to answer questions via email and always makes time on her calendar if you need to see management face-to-face. Scott is always welcoming, professional, and always takes care of my leasing needs with expertise. Kathleen greets me with a smile and always responds with respect and professionalism. The concierge staff, Yuri, Tiera, and Sabrina, have provided excellent customer service. They are always friendly and professional. They always listen to my concerns, answer all my questions, and take care of any issues expeditiously. Yuri and Tiera always greet me in the afternoon with a smile and if I have packages, they are giving them to me before I have the opportunity to ask. That s customer service and VIP treatment! I really feel that all the concierges are great, but the ones I mentioned have went above and beyond.
My boyfriend and I moved in back in August, and the entire process was a breeze. Kathleen Akers from the Leasing office was extremely responsive and super accommodating. She helped us find the apartment we wanted, and walked us through the entire process without any issues. The buildings are great-- we love the amenity areas and use them often. The staff all around is super friendly. We love the convenience store in the building because they carry pretty much everything and it's conveniently located. Also, both buildings are walking distance to pretty much everything in Crystal/Pentagon City. Overall we're very pleased with our experience and will definitely be renewing our lease.
Horrible - convenient, yes... but, don t make the mistake of signing a lease. The property is infested with rodents and cockroaches, the ceilings leak, and it s clear that management is holding the place together with duct tape.
Worst of all, they nickel and dime the heck out of you. Locked out - $100. Forget to hand-in cheap plastic pool bracelets - $200. And, don t forget your scraper to remove you parking pass sticker from your windshield!
You can find much better for your money, with better amenities and fewer bugs.
Beware of all the fake positive reviews on here.
Friendly staff, awesome pool, huge floor plans and great location.
Crystal House is a great place to live! Great amenities, great services and an overall wonderful community!
Staying here for last 4 years. Amenities have been improving continuously and new flooring etc being added. Maintenance is prompt. Parking and dog walking space is plenty.
Been here for a year, and Crystal house is fantastic! The events are the best part of living here! Tiffany, who runs the events always makes sure we have the best! It just makes Crystal House feel that much more like home!
As usual, cheap is expensive. I'll put details below, but the main takeaway for someone considering moving here is that you should factor not getting your security deposit back in to the price of the apartment you're renting.
Before I moved out last month, we had a walk-through of the apartment and the apartment representative said there were no issues, but shortly after we moved out we received notice that they would be withholding our security deposit and charging us an additional $50 because our carpet had scuff marks near the entryway. When we told crystal house that the marks were caused by the maintenance staff when they came to change our air filters, they replied that we had 10 days to pay the money in full via certified check or they would give our information to a collections agency.
Other issues during my time there:
The day I moved it my bedroom flooded because of a faulty a/c unit in the apartment above mine, one day i came home to an overpowering chemical smell throughout the apartment which required opening up all the windows to air it out (in February). On two separate occasions I got stuck in the building's old elevators, once having to pry open the doors with another person and jump from between floors.
Honestly there were other issues, but listing them would be more for my benefit than a potential renter's. And even with this negative review I'm not saying don't move there, just weigh the negatives against whatever is the price of the unit you're looking at, and the pretty nice convenient neighborhood of Crystal City. But this is NOT a luxury apartment building, don't be fooled into overpaying for a unit there.
Renovations are good and staff is friendly. Location is great too as well as the pool, and building tries to do fun free activities.
But yes, the roach problem reached our apartment this summer and it is unlivable and truly disgusting. Probably the management simply needs to put everyone up in a hotel and tent the buildings to solve this problem, but of course they won t because they are cheap. We requested service and they sprayed our kitchen which did nothing at all and was a huge inconvenience. Basically, if you don t want a large extended cockroach family for roommates, don t move in.
Also, I originally wrote a good review because one day management offered free pizza to anyone who would give good reviews. What can I say, free pizza is hard to resist! But you should know many good reviews were likely given under the influence of free pizza.
The property has widespread RAT infestation and mold. The property management office staff is unprofessional and unresponsive. Avoid living here.
All they care about is money! Everything gets worse and worse after managed by Roseland. BTW, they just raised the lease administrative fee to $300
The location is great, great and great. The apartment is very nice. Has many closet and wide area. Big bedroom and living room. Many windows. The management is nice, sometime, they do mistake but they try very hard to fix it for you.
Living at Crystal House has been a great experience and working with Deen is exceptionally pleasant. Would highly recommend living in this complex for everything it offers.
Lived there for 2 years..amazing! And renewing my lease for another year!
What's funny is that my roommate and I were so disappointed with this complex after a few months that we decided to write a review, only to see that everyone else seems to also be having terrible customer experience (hence the 1.5 star Google/Yelp ratings that the leasing office seems to have no intention of working on improving).
I completely echo everything all of these upset residents are saying, even though our experiences may not have been exactly the same. The leasing office people are terrible to deal with after the lease is signed and the maintenance on the building is more than inconvenient. Although people are working in the building seemingly every day, there are still poorly patched holes all throughout the ceilings in the hallways and the basement levels are legitimately just a mess. At least once every two weeks the power or the water (or both) goes out from 9am-5pm. And if you happen to be home on one of these days the maintenance people are liable to straight-up just walk in assuming you're not there. At least twice they just barged in without knocking or ringing the doorbell, and when confronted about it said they did (as if I'm not sitting on the living room couch).
Upon moving in, they claimed that we would have a washer/dryer set ready and that the apartment would be cleaned, but neither of those were the case. We had to specifically request the apartment to be actually cleaned after we moved in and the washer/dryer took about 2 months - oh and they never reimbursed me for having to use the laundry room that requires a $10 card loaded with only $4 and a minimum of $20 reloading credit at a time.
The complex also misappropriated our security deposit towards a rent credit, which makes no sense because our rent was waived for the first month and a half. We paid the $200 security deposit to get our keys and weeks later the leasing office accuses us of never paying and being delinquent on our account. Once they realized it was their fault, they gave us an option of a refund for the money so that we could pay it right back to them (because that makes sense), but then when we went to pick it up they had already credited it towards our utilities without our consent. Then they proceeded to harass us about the credit and gave us arbitrary deadlines of when we were supposed to have the payment, refusing to acknowledge that they again made a mistake and failing to give us any options to remedy their mistake.
On top of that the leasing office manager is a genuinely difficult person to deal with and doesn't understand basic customer relations. I've tried to work with him on matters and he basically refuses to hear what you have to say.
There's no free visitor parking on the property. This is their policy: for a complex with two buildings each with 12 floors of residents and about 30 units on each floor, they have a grand total of 5 visitor spaces which you can pay for at a nightly rate. The parking lot is never full and there are at least 20 available spaces per building at any given point in time, but none sectioned off for visitors.
The building also apparently does not have the capacity to generate heat and A/C at the same time. So in early October/late September they decided that "permanent climate change was upon us" and switched the building to heat only. Well the month of October was pretty hot and at no point did they switch back, so we basically left our windows open for like 3 weeks straight.
However, the concierges at the apartment are generally very amiable and accommodating as much as possible. That and the apartment/balcony size are about the only positive review points I have. Which is why I feel justified giving one star (as if zero was an option). My roommate and I planned to stay somewhere for a while, but this place has given us no choice but to be eager to move on.
The stories about roaches are real. They finally hired Orkin after having some third rate company doing the spraying for years! So maybe the problem is gone. Also concierges have gotten nicer but the rental office staff generally leaves a lot to be desired in they frequently liked to pretend the building doesn't have bugs. Move in but just know what you're getting into. Also you can hear everyone walking overtop of you because they didn't properly insulate when they took out all the wall to wall carpeting. Just cheap...
I wish I could give this place negative stars. For the love of God please do not live here. This building has a HUGE roach problem. As I'm writing this review, I have killed 3 this morning alone. I have cleaned out my entire kitchen, including cabinets and the pantry, etc., so they can spray and treat and every time the roaches come back. I've been here only 4 months and the day I moved in there were roaches. That should have been a sign but since this problem was never disclosed to me I was hoping for the best. Instead, the problem only got worse. Management is completely unwilling and unable to help with this problem, and instead of working with me to come to a satisfactory compromise on this issue they instead blamed me for the problem, even though, again these roaches were here THE DAY I MOVED IN. They claim my unit is the ONLY unit that has this problem, that no one else in my vicinity has this issue, and somehow they're only present in my apartment. They claim my Keurig sitting on the counter, having clean pots sitting in my oven, and having a clean pan sitting on top of my stove as well as a few drink packets sitting on the counter are what attracted the roaches. I had no idea 4 rinsed plates in a sink was a roach breeding ground but I've learned so much from the ever so helpful Dennis Skarda. Even though I never had a roach problem when I stayed at the Buchanan for a year, I am somehow to blame for roaches infecting this entire building. If I could afford to move I would, but of course the office refuses to work with me on getting me the hell out of dodge either, even though the Virginia Better Housing Bureau says they MUST provide a vermin free home. Please do not be fooled by the cosmetic changes they made here - this place is disgusting and it's filled with roaches and vermin. If I could go back and do this all again, I would never have set foot in this vermin death trap. If you need any more convincing to NOT move here, feel free to private message me or email me and I would be happy to share even more information on the deplorable conditions and the horrid treatment I've received by the management.
EDITED TO ADDRESS COMMENTS FROM OWNER: Dennis knows full well that I have complied with all instructions to keep my apartment at surgical-level cleanliness in order to mitigate the problem HIS building has created. When I have been instructed, I have confined my pet (at great personal cost to his well-being), I have cleaned my countertops of all appliances / items, and have cleaned out my entire kitchen the 3 times I was instructed to do so. However, when technicians enter my apartment to lay their ineffectual sticky traps and I have no prior notice, warning, or instructions, of course my countertops are not cleaned of all appliances and my pet is not confined to his cage. I'm not psychic. I would happily comply if these were my instructions, but they were not. Again, please feel free to private message me here and I would be happy to provide you with photo evidence as well as screenshots or interactions between myself / management.
The leasing officers have the worst attitude I ever seen. They don't really care the residents or the potential residents, all they care are selling the apartments. When I moved in I found a lot "flaws" in my new apartment. Window shades broken, lock broken, Kitchen not really cleaned, the sink was leaking and etc. The microwave was even burned.
Besides, they refused to pay my friend referral fee. The previous leasing specialist left the job and did not mention the referral issue to any others. So when I contacted them for this issue, they denied everything. Because they did not do it.
I do hear they charge extra fee when people moving out. I just hope it won't happen to me.
So if you are considering applying living here, PLEASE TAKE A SECOND THOUGHT.
I was happy to live here. Great location, affordable, and friendly staff.
But OMG the roaches! It seems to be a neighborhood-wide problem (other buildings in the area have similar issues) but that doesn't make it ok. We lived here for years and while they always sprayed whenever we asked, it didn't stop those buggers from coming back.
Coming from someone who visits here I love this place. One of my friends lives here and I love coming over for the pool and roof top. Living conditions are nice and my friend likes his space. I don't know how it is to live here but from a visitor stand point I like it.
We have lived here several years. The pool and rooftop are wonderful and the past years are lovely but difficult ti live with. One of the best things is the help with actual apartment maintenance. I just had a closet light replaced and they were prompt, polite and repaired the issue. Every time I have needed something fixed in our unit the employees who do the work have been wonderful.
DO NOT LIVE HERE!!!!!! If I could give this place less than 1 star I would. Where to begin? The leasing office is poorly ran by rude and inexperienced agents. They seem nice and friendly when visiting but once you sign that addendum, the masks come off. I have no experienced ONE of them that I feel has treated me or my roommate with respect. When I first visited the apartment complex the unit they showed me did not have a washer and a dryer, the leasing agent (Jason) assured me that the washer and dryer would be in the unit by the time we moved in a few days later, however, the washer and dryer wasn't installed for a month and a half.
Next, the leasing office requires that every resident pays a $200 deposit to move in, which me and my roommate obviously paid in order to get our keys. Two weeks later, we get a nasty email from the leasing agent who officiated with our agreement (Jason) saying "we still need that $200 deposit from you and your roommate and we will need it by the end of the week". Excuse me? So when I emailed him to remind him that we had already taken care of that, he told me that they had accidentally processed that payment towards our rent as a rent credit. Mind you, our rent was free for two months so it made no sense as to why they would even do that. So we asked if that could reverse this and use it towards the deposit. They said no, we would have to pay another deposit. They also said they could reimburse us the amount of the deposit so we could use it to get another deposit (what sense this makes no clue) so I said let's do that option. When I called the next day to arrange the pickup the leasing office told me they used the $200 to pay for our utility bill and parking fee for the month without even asking us even though I previously agreed to getting a refund. Instead of the office forgiving the deposit that they misapproved they are still asking for us to pay for this.
On top of all of the leasing office issues, there is no free visitor parking for guests and there is always ongoing maintenance happening. There are random holes in the wall that have been patched with plastic that have been like that for months with no remedy in sight.
Lastly, today I locked myself out of my apartment and went to the concierge to be let back in, I was charged $100 for the maintenance man to make a COPY of a key that already existed in the Leasing office and I was not able to keep the key that they made. Even though it's $50 to get a new key made if you lost it. The concierge told me that there is no master key for the buildings, which makes no sense and is also very dangerous if there was a serious issue. In conclusion, I am totoally disgusted with my current living situation. I pay way too much for this apartment to be constantly dealing with all of these issues.
I can't wait for my lease to be up so I can leave this place. I highly suggest that no one even thinks about living here... save yourself a headache.
This place is full of roaches, and the leasing manager Ashley is arrogant and unconcerned. I will not live here after my lease get expired! Terrible place and terrible leasing office!
Great staff and nice amenities. Been here for over a year already.
Beautiful renovated and spacious apartments. Very contemporary rooftops and amenity spaces like the outdoor grills, community club room and a really nice gym.
Very close to metro, shopping at Pentagon Mall and very nice high end restaurants. Friendly staff and very helpful when relocating to the area.
We are infested with roaches and it is absolutely disgusting. I can't wait to leave this property in 5 weeks.
This place has the worst management ever. I have been living here for 2.5 years plus. I lost my job due to covid-19 I reached out to them time and again that I wont be able to make the payment and need to terminate my lease and move out. I reached out to them two days after losing my job and its been 20 days and they neither put me in touch with corporate office nor would let me give 30 day notice and payment for month to move out. They are charging me penalty. They talk about being a community and helping each other but they are nothing but hypocrites
All I can say is that this place is a hell hole to live in. You spend $2,300 and you are paying to live in hell. Every year they turn the AC off too soon, and make you live in almost 90 degree weather, so yeah, it's literally hell you are living in. Take my advice and pass this place up. I wouldn't even give it one start, but in order to post this I have to.
Maintanence will get into your apartment without The requiere 24 h prior notification.
They won t clean after them selfs and you might find your thing s broken after their visit.
Problems with roaches and even mice.
Your packages could be retained and denied for periods of over 6 months.
Bad Management turnovers
These are some of the experiences we went through while living there.
Cristal house responded to this post after 2 weeks. As you can see in the reply they didn t take the time to read it completely or to search me in their apartment list. We moved out months ago!
Really enjoy living here so far! Very responsive to tenant concerns
It feels like home being in here and the exciting thing is surroundings .#crystal is incredible
I have been living in this building 2 years. After I moved here a few weeks then they start the construction in the building which was disturbance. Also, the power cutage is a lot really annoying . We have kids, work , and life how that can be comfortable for us in this building.
Once when they almost finished the construction they increased the rent $200 for non renovated apartment for what $$200???????
The new lobby and the roof top are beautiful.
The location is fantastic.
BUT our convenient in the apartment is most important.
The location is convenient, the place is clean, the staff is good, and the rooftops and pool are awesome. The icing on the cake is the free events they throw, Tiffany is a pleasure to interact with and she always makes sure we are having a great time! There has been everything from live bands to multicultural food and bellydancing! The events definitely take living here to the next level.
This is my worst experience ever. There were cockroaches in the apartment the first day we moved in. After we moved out, the leasing office charged us additional parking fees and utilities because they gave us the wrong moved out date in the paper document. I asked them for the additional charge refund and they said there s nothing they can do cuz I already cashed check. Anyway, glad I m out of this apartment.
DO NOT MOVE HERE. I will repeat, DO NOT MOVE HERE. There are too many issues to list when it comes to the Crystal House, which is probably better suited to be a Crystal Meth House.
From the very first month I moved in the following happened:
Flooding into my apartment from 3 floors above, at 2am. They had just done repairs on the water heaters and a pipe burst causing dirty water to flood into my apartment at 2am. Water was coming in all along my window, through light fixtures, and other places in the ceiling. I had to use all of my towels to soak up the dirty water and then pay to wash them after. The carpets were soaked and so was the ceiling. The remedy for this was just to paint over everything like nothing happened and bring in a dehumidifier. They were nice enough to let somebody into my apartment afterwards, without my notification, to clean.
Broken cable wire. I had to go to circuit city to fix my cable wire and hook everything up myself.
Toilet spraying water everywhere. Whenever the toilet flushed water would spray out and collect on the bathroom floor.
Bathroom/Kitchen faucets always broken. Every 2-3 weeks I had to call maintenance to come in and replace the filters on the faucet because they were clogged from god knows what in the water.
I had to have the shower head replaced, another issue with the toilet where it ran when flushed, and my bathtub leaked to the apartment below me.
All of that was within the FIRST month, out of 13.
In addition:
Cockroaches, yes they have them. Yes they are huge in the basement.
Black slime backed up into the bathroom sink, not even sure what it could have been.
Called the cops multiple times for what sounded like domestic abuse in the apartment above. Loud screaming noises all hours of the night.
Accidentally locked myself out of my apartment on a day the leasing office closed unexpectedly and had to pay their $100 fee, which is apparently a "luxury service." They view this as emergency maintenance even thought maintenance is on site 24 hours.
Towed my rental car after there was no one around to get a temporary parking decal from. After driving 7 hours back from NY from my girlfriends grandfather passing away I got back to Crystal House at 430 am. There was no concierge around, they frequently disappear after 8pm. After waiting around for a little bit, it is 430 am, I decide to go get sleep after 3 long stressful days. My girlfriend went back to the car to get something she forgot at 5 am, still no concierge. Woke up to the car being towed. I went to talk to the leasing office and I was told that "I should have waited for the concierge."
I never got a move in inspection, and when I moved out they never notified me of when the move out inspection would be so I could be there. The end result is receiving a bill for $800 for a stained carpet, probably from the flood of dirty water, and replacing vinyl floor which needed replacing when I moved in. They are also going to completely "renovate" the kitchen when I move out because the cabinets are from the 70s and there is no microwave.
The only good thing about this apartment are the people that work in the store in the basement, and even then they charge double for everything you buy there.
I would have gladly spent extra money to have never dealt with this property. This was my first experience with Roseland and it was not a good one.
I absolutely loved living here. The apartments and amenities are great, I took so much advantage of the pool while I could, but I wish they had a hot tub for the winter (giving you some ideas Crystal House). The staff is wonderful and helpful, and keep the place intact, if you need something fixed, they will come immediately and take care of it. Rent is expensive, just like anywhere in DC/Crystal City. Regardless, I would live here again. Thank you for a great year!
There are some great things about this complex and there are some issues. On the plus-side, the buildings are pet friendly, the apartments are spacious, there are some great events that bring in local businesses, the location is fantastic, and there are great amenities (pool/gym/rooftop). Some of the front desk staff (Jason who has since left) and the leasing office team (Deen in particular) are great.
On the other hand, I've had some bad experiences with appliances not working and structural issues. The apartment design could be better; the bedrooms share a wall and are adjacent to the bathroom.
All in all, I'm pretty happy with Crystal House.
It's huge. The apartments with balconies are great. They have good security.
There are lots of shops and restaurants in walking distance.
We have been living here since May. Every part of the move in process was smooth. The apartment is fantastic with very little sound pollution. The internet we got is Verizon Fios. I do a lot of movie watching, gaming, and streaming and I ve never had an issue with it. The amenities are some of the best I ve had with my favorite being the patio area that s perfect for BBQs. It s a block away from the blue and yellow lines and a 5 minute drive to the airport. Crystal city in general is a fun safe and clean area. The complex is also very family friendly as it has pools and a lot of fun and free community recreational events like concerts, waffle making, wine and art dates, and dog behavioral classes. I was hesitant moving here because there are a few reviews that are bad but I haven t seen a single roach my entire time here and maintenance responds within a day or two. Good luck house hunting and with your move.
I've been here for two year and have now decided to move out after my current lease. It's worse after being managed by Roseland. Strongly NOT recommended!
I don't know why so many Chinese people live in this apartment, the quality and location of the pentagon city apartment next to it is much better. This apartment will pay you a deposit
Great place. Great apartments. Washer and dryer in my place. Love the staff, they plan things, and actually seen to care. They try their hardest to keep us informed when dealing with our community. Much appreciated.
I am living there more than 7 months and I am very satisfied. Great facility, staff, apparments, and services
Where should I even begin? First of all, most residents here can agree that the buildings are in dire need of repair and improvement for the price they pay. The ongoing renovation is merely for appearances and focuses on the lobbies, lounges, pools and other public areas to attract potential clients. I currently live in a "renovated studio" that costs about $1600 with an updated kitchen and bathroom. After living here, one will begin to realize it is consisted of hastily painted walls and closets that break once a month. The management can described as the combination of two things: a payment system designed to take more money from renters and staff members who are apathetic towards residents. Enjoy getting legally robbed. Oh, and did I mention it's close to the metro?
I have been living at the Crystal House for more than 4 years now. It has been improving over the years with regards to amenities as well as quality of service. Good neighboorhood and convenient.
We live in this apartment building. We like leasing office very much. Everyone there is very polite and professional. They handle all maintenance requests in time.
Worst experience ever. They will go into your apartment for examination from time to time without your consent. And they will issue warnings threatening to expel you. Really think twice before renting here.
High end hotel service in a family friendly environment, stone throw from metro, restaurants, shopping area and artsy Crystal City.
My husband and I have been happy with Crystal House so far. One of the major highlights for us has been the Saturday yoga classes they started in October. It has been a great substitute to the pool during the winter months.
I've been living at Crystal House for a few weeks and I've had a really good experience so far! I was moving from out of state, so I had to search for apartments virtually, but Crystal House made it a very seamless process. I really enjoy all the amenities that the complex has to offer and everyone here has been really attentive to any problems and really nice. I love my apartment and the surrounding areas are really great!
I posted the review below on yelp. So far, living here has been a great experience:
I have been here about two months. The staff is really great. Move-in was a breeze. The location is amazing. It is super easy to walk to the the Metro, all the restaurants on 23rd Street, Costco, Whole Foods and Commonwealth Joe, and Pentagon City. Easy access to bike and running paths. Even though it is an older building it is really well taken care of. The grounds/green spaces are immaculate and make it better than any other building around (new or old). The pool is really nice as well. Regular social events make it easy for new tenants to get to know people. I had one maintenance request and it was completed fairly quickly. I haven't had any of the issues mentioned in previous posts.
