Great evening to have pie. The lemon was so refreshing in this hot weather.
They have large portions and the food was tasty. Nice quaint little place, waiting for them to have rib specials again this summer.
Big potions of everything but their baked potatoes could use some work
The food & wait staff are great! If we ever go back to Washington - we'll go back to eat there!
Friendly staff. I get the feeling they all might have been family. The food good and hot and good size servings.
Great food at a great price! The desserts are fantastic. Biggest slice of pie around.
Fantastic service & the peanut butter & chocolate pie was heaven on a plate!
Workers are friendly and the food is good. The place also gives off good vibes.
Pretty much a Washington MO institution. Full menu and pies, the pies...
Anyway, you may have to wait on weekend mornings but well worth the wait.
Had breakfast there. Great service, clean restaurant and facilities. Coffee was mediocre. The food was very bland. Even the bacon had a weird taste. The prices are high. Almost $20 for a cup of coffee, large oj, and their Cowan scrambler. Really? For $20 you can get bottomless mimosas and brunch at other establishments.
The food is wonderful and the people are really nice. Prices are not bad either.
Homemade chicken and dumpling soup is SO good. Plus I had the best Reuben ever! Super nice people there. Great down home cooking!
Our favorite go to restaurant. Always a perfect meal.
Great home style meal and feel ! You have to try the pie!!
Great food and very friendly servers. Me and my wife love this place.
Local favorite. Great milkshakes and the pies are delicious.
Nothing special.. the food was average and the pies were disappointing. Staff was very friendly and boasts country charm.
The food is your typical American fare. The food is good and tasty. Their pies are awesome. The peanut butter pie is amazing. I gave four stars because the menu is of small selection.
The only plate we saw was all the decor on the wall. Took too long and left without ever getting our food. Did get pie for our troubles, which was just ok. They seemed short staffed or mismanaged.
Great Restaurant!! Love all their food, and the pies ate awesome!!
Hated the food, and had a terrible server...but the wine was good :)
Cowans is a hometown restaurant with charm and food that is consistent and staff you can count on.
Good old fashioned family restaurant. Great food and incredible pies.
We were visiting some friends that live out in Washington and they showed us all around downtown! After lunch we wandered into an antique shop and walked along the water to enjoy the view. By then we'd worked up an appetite for dessert, so we stopped at Cowan's for pie! My husband ordered the Blackberry Pie, which he loved!! He raved about how he could actually taste the berries and how it hadn't been overly sweetened. I had a chocolate pie with meringue topping. The chocolate layer was described to me by the waitress as being a rich, custard. But in my opinion, it's texture was much more like a pudding (not as thick as custard) and it was sweet, not rich. The layer of meringue was about 4 in. tall in the middle and VERY lightly sweetened.
The restaurant itself was very cozy and homey! It was a comfy place to grab a treat!
Took forever to get a menu. And waited over 30 min for food never once was checked on. When we got our food finally it was cold and distasteful. Won t be coming back
Food was amazing, and you get so much. Couldn't finish it all, and for reasonable prices.
This is one of the best places in Missouri for pies. Every one should stop in and try them out.
Food was amazing. The waitress had a little bit of an attitude, im not sure of her name but she had glasses. Not a friendly girl
Always good food and service. The c2 is my go to for breakfast.
Homemade Everything at the oldest restaurant in Washington. This is a delightful and quaint dining establishment is recommend to anyone going through Washington. It has a long history of family, homemade food, and a welcoming atmosphere.
They serve breakfast all day. I recommend the biscuits & gravy (I'm a biscuit & gravy person), but all their food is really good.
Lunch & Dinner:
This is a great place for family, friends, aa quick lunch, or even a small business meal. I can be busy, but it's worth the short wait for a home cooked meal here.
I highly recommend getting dessert here!
This location is famous for their Mile High pie. It really is tall, so do it if your in for a treat. I love their pies. Check this place out even if you just want dessert.
Overall, come to CosansC for a pleasant dining experience near the Washington waterfront.
Quaint, historic cafe with great food and friendly wait staff.
Good home cooking! With outstanding staff! Our waitress Jamie went above and beyond for us without hesitation!!! Definitely will be back!
If you find yourself in Washington, MO and you want "comfort" food in a family friendly setting, this is the place to go. Daily specials and pie made in-house.
Took a drive to Washington for lunch as we'd seen a photo of their pies on a friend's FB page. Seat yourself which was a bit annoying because we had to walk around the restaurant to stalk a table. They were busy. Split a BLT. Was fine. Nothing special. Pie was very good. Had coconut meringue and cherry crumb (with ice cream). Both great.
Good food and very friendly and helpful staff.. don't miss it
The food was fresh and delicious. The service though, was slow and even though we were the only ones there we had to keep looking for our waitress but to they're defense we did stay to closing.
The food and service here is usually excellent. I have always been impressed with the price of the food and what you get. I would recommend this cozy atmosphere restaurant to anyone looking for good breakfast food or regular American staples. This is one of my favorite restaurants in downtown Washington. It is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays.
Just went for breakfast. Good food and friendly service!
Friendly local place that never disappoints. GREAT biscuits and gravy, great blueberry pancakes, and of course if you go you have to get the mile high pie. Lemon meringue is my fave!
Had the full chefs salad with ham ,was disappointed because it was just lettuce couple pieces of tomatoes wedges, very very small bits of diced ham, onion rings and a few slivers of carrots, no egg, no crackers and it wasnt much bigger than the small chef salad my friend ordered, for $8.99. Will not return
Quick service, happy atmosphere, and amazing biscuits and gravy. First time and cant wait to go back again and try their sky high pie.
Fine,,home style cooking,,alright but not off the charts.
Fantastic homemade comfort food. Don t leave without eating a piece of pie!
Accommodated dietary restrictions very well! Cowan's was able to answer detailed questions about ingredients. They prepared the food perfectly.
We knew we were choosing the right restaurant when we saw the volume of cars parked in front. Service was excellent. Food was good. All of the customer's appeared very happy.
Pies are a specialty. You can can go there just for desert.
Also, there is a private room for special events. Reservation are required for the private room.
Nope.
A friend of mine who is America's foremost pie connoisseur recommended Cowan's. I don't know why. I had apple pie. It was muddy in texture and taste with a bush league crust. My wife had blackberry pie that was good at the first bite when it was warm. Taste experience declined as the slice cooled. We decided to go ahead and have dinner - fried chicken. Minimally average. The chx pieces were quite small and you'll never see a smaller dollop of mashed potatoes draped with a glossy, pre-mix gravy.
Most disappointing was the APATHETIC wait service. I sat at my table and watched female teenage servers flirtatiously toss napkin balls at the male teenage cooks while my drink sat empty for 10 minutes. These were sweet kids, but this is a workplace and I wish someone with the last name of Cowan would train them how to work.
Been coming here for the past 10yrs and the food is always great. I've only had one slightly disappointing visit here, it was years ago, I ordered the salmon & my friends ordered what was supposed to be a large appetizer plate, the salmon was so dry i couldn't even eat it, and the appetizer sampler left much to be desired. I think that because I deviated from what I usually order when I'm there is why that particular meal was disappointing. If you stick to their staples, for example, their breakfast is always amazing, the pies are delicious, burgers & fries never bad, and then their daily specials are always good. I have recommended Cowan's to many people while working in customer service here in Washington, anytime someone is looking for a good place for breakfast, Cowan's is always my first place to recommend.
We had a table for 15 the waitress dis an awesome job!!
Unfortunately we had terrible service. We waited an hour at our table to be served our food. Once our food was served it was cold and took another 10 mins to get us silverware. We didnt get any syrup with our french toast, but didn't want to wait to ask for some. The sausage in the gravy was nasty sausage pellets you find on cheap pizza. I feel like this place had great potential, but unfortunately we will never return.
Food and service were great. I only wish I would have asked for my omelet to be "well done." It tasted great though!
Fast and friendly service! Reasonable prices and fantastic food!!
Good breakfast, good service, and excellent pies! What's not to like? Old fashioned, American diner.
