I went here to visit the world famous Tonga room, but it was closed. Who would have figured a bar would be closed at 2pm, what kind of Animals are running the place?! I then had to settle for using the world famous Tonga bathroom instead. It was awesome because it was clean.

The lobby is gorgeous here! Never stayed in any of the rooms, but I've eaten in the cafe a ton. It's always great food. It's a great place for weddings too. Downstairs they have a few large rooms that can be easily rented out for large parties.
Really nice hotel that's well located and has great sized homes. However I'm marking it down for the weak shower pressure and frankly outrageous WiFi prices. Internet should be included in the cost of the rooms which aren't exactly cheap.
I sent to the Fairmont to attend a biznow event. The Fairmont itself was very nice and had a high class feel. There event was in a beautiful event space with chandeliers. The space was cramped for the amount of people in attendance. We had a very close and cramped setting with the tables taking up a lot of space during the social hour.
Pros: Vintage Interior, Cool Architecture of the Hotel, LOCATION!, Walking distance to ChinaTown-PierOne-DowntownSF, Great Customer Service and friendly staff.
Cons: Old furniture (had an office chair that was ripped and it is 5 start hotel (-__- )), Over-Priced (but I guess I would understand since it is SF, but still making it little friendly 5 start hotel pricing would be better), WiFi is not free and some cellular connections will suck (GOOD Luck :D ).
The king bay view room was amazing and completely worth it. The service here is second to none and the rooms are perfect. There is a lot of history here and the photo lined hallways are proof!
I attended the UCSF gala here. The place is gorgeous, and it was a lovely time. The only thing I would ding them for was the quality of the food and the friendliness of the persons staffing the dinner. They seemed very unhappy to be there.
Stayed here on vacation with the wife. Got a great deal on a interior view queen room (not a "hotel" queen - might have actually been a king) - $250/night including valet.
Pros: super quiet, Tonga room in stumbling distance, Top of the Mark nearby, central location in SF (ie easy to get around), lots of history, super opulent.
Cons: Expensive. We couldn't have stayed here without the special deal we found.
My friends and I enjoyed a lovely evening at the Tonga Room in the Farimont. Drinks are a little bit on the sweet side but the atmosphere is the real reason you would want to go.
Went to Tonga bar - really fun place! The band was great. Was pretty busy but we were able to walk right in if we didn't want a table. Drinks are relatively expensive but it wasn't too bad. A must visit in San Francisco.
Disappointing stay. Housekeeping barged into my room without knocking, they charge for wifi but the signal was poor, the 26 dollar omelette was flavorless, and then to top it all off I had to wait 45 minutes for valet to get my car. I expected more from a premier SF hotel.
maybe you guys should invest in some signs out front that says enter and do not enter cuz last time I checked it's not Residence at checking into a hotel it's people from out of town
Very disappointed in this place! I stayed here for two months. First I had my mini fridge emptied, so I was able to put my own stuff in it. I checked out and days later, they charged me for the mini fridge be restocked.
I also had packages delivered to the hotel and they charged me for every package that I had delivered, without disclosing anywhere that I would be charged.
Now, 11:16 AM August 25th, I was just calling the font desk try to let them transferred my phone call to my Uncle' Room 1603. Two Female employee answer my Phone calls totally. 1. agreed with the transfer, then hang out my call. 2. I explained my name and purpose and Room Number, I was saying the Number is: "sixteen O three". She was repeat again asking me: "one six zero three"or "Sixteen O three". Then I asked her: What's the different ? She asked again: is he an employee? I said: No, how even possible an employee would be living in a Guest Room. She didn't answer and transfer to the room.
Am I too sensitive or My foreigner accent? Its really Uncomfortable experience for me.
Old world charms still holding. Always a quiet and clean stay. Well chosen staff- very responsive to every request. The views are some of the best in the city. Nob Hill is a strategic location- central, but removed from the tourist soup of Union and the Wharf districts.
This review is of the Tonga Room. Great classic tiki drinks. Very retro atmosphere. Expect to wait 30 to 45 minutes for a table on weeknights. The noise level is very high, so conversations are difficult. If you want a classic tiki experience try it once.
The Fairmont hotel was a fantastic venue for my family's wedding. They provided excellent service and helped to make the wedding memorable for everyone.
Perfect, had zero defects and I would expect nothing less from here. They helped with everything, nothing was too difficult except Alcatraz tickets, but that was my fault!
Beautiful historic hotel. Shower pressure low to conserve water. No view from hotel window. At the top of a very steep hill so make sure your luggage is light!
When they asked via text message to rate my stay 1-5, I replied 3, and they said "thank you! That's what we strive for!" and the linked me to Google to write this review. It's a 3 because it's missing the details of a considerate hotel. For example, there's no refrigerator for you to use, no outlets except on the floor behind the desk, no laundry bags, a super dim magnified mirror, one laughably rickety luggage stand despite a 2-bed room, etc. The mini bar is excessive in every sense, taking up the entire wardrobe and includes sensors that will automatically charge you if you pick something up to look at it. Using the gym ONCE is $20, and wifi is $14-18 a day. I enjoyed the beauty of the building, sure, but it's not the best hotel experience.
The place is stunning. The lobby is very sleek film, huge wooden and glass doors, monsters chandeliers ... Looks like it's walking in the halls of Titanic..kkk. very, very show. Well appointed rooms, independent of the idea of an old hotel, it mixes very well the new and the old.
The hotel boasts a grand exterior, and is located quite majestically at the top of Nob Hill. The interior design is reminiscent of an earlier era of San Francisco, and is fairly well maintained. Rooms are large and spacious, and the bathroom amenities are modern and tasteful. I deduct one star for the internal facilities being largely been outsourced (ie, gym and cafe seem to be outsourced, and there are stores inside the hotel).
Very friendly and helpful staff. Absolutely beautiful hotel. Love the architecture and the details here. Definitely worth a visit even if this is not where you're staying overnight. Great location.
This Hotel was honestly so nice! There was even an outdoor garden on the rooftop, it was super fancy and amazing. Although I didn't get to see the rooms, if I had the option in the future, would definitely do so! Such a nice hotel, except the parking situation which was a little bit annoying because I had to park in the grace cathedral parking
The Fairmont might feel luxurious to the inexperienced traveler, but underneath the veneer it doesn't hold a candle to other 4.5 star and 5 star hotels in the area. The beds aren't very comfortable. The staff isn't that friendly. The resort fee is pointless. The gym is offsite (through a different company). The windows facing the city (in their nicest rooms) let in a surprising amount of construction noise from downtown. The fake marble columns in the lobby are tacky. And then in my most recent stay... a security guard came to my room in the evening while I was trying to sleep. He knocked on the door and I assumed it was simply housekeeping so I said "I'm in the room." He did not respond but instead knocked again. I went closer to the door and said: "I'm in the room, who is it?" Still no response. I look through the peephole and saw it was a hotel employee who was just standing there. I cracked the door open and he looked at me blankly and said: "Hi sir, I'm from hotel security. [Long pause]. I'm here to check on your well-being." I said, "Excuse me? What does that mean?" He repeated, "I'm from hotel security sir, I'm here to check on your well being." I said: "Well, I'm trying to sleep. Who sent you? Why do you need to check on my well-being? That is very strange." And he said, "One of my colleagues, sir. They asked me to check on your well-being." At this point, I was wondering if this was a scam. Was this person really a hotel employee? I was tired after a long day of traveling and the whole situation didn't make sense. It was 7pm. I had just checked into my room. I turned off the lights and was trying to go to bed. I wasn't playing loud music or talking on the phone. Not even the TV was turned on. I asked: "Are you sure you have the right room?" He looked at the room number and said: "Yes" and then read my room number out loud. I again asked for the name of whoever sent him and he would not say. I asked for his name and he would not say. He just stood their blankly, wondering about my "well-being." Now, I should mention that I travel for work and I have been blessed to say in a lot of very nice 5-star hotels around the world. I am a very respectful guest and I often tidy up my room before checkout (which is ridiculous, I know). I have never, ever had such a strange and unprofessional experience at a luxury hotel. The last thing I want is a strange and uncomfortable interaction right when I'm trying to fall asleep. When I went to speak to the hotel manager, she said there was a mix-up between housekeeping and security and apparently the person who stayed in my room the previous night had called the hotel because they thought they had left something in the room. So... they sent a security guard to come wake me up and ask about my well-being while I'm trying to sleep? The whole thing doesn't make sense. The manager offered to discount my $400 stay (one night) by $100. I declined. A good night of sleep is worth more than that and a 5-star hotel should have higher standards. As an alternative, I recommend the Omni (interior facing room), the Hotel Vitale (water facing room), or Le Meridien (Northern facing room).
Very fancy hotel with excellent service. WiFi was fast and easy to access. Location is great, although it is at the top of a hill, so it is a steep walk to the hotel.
My stay isn't even over and I've already been impressed enough to leave them a perfect 5 star review. The staff is extremely accommodating and always professional. It's our anniversary and they made sure to let us know they were grateful we chose to spend it with them. I wish we had more time to experience all they have to offer but that's what fosters magic and lures you in for the next trip.Thank you hotel staff for a wonderful time.
The Tonga room had a good band but you weren't allowed to sit in the restaurant or bar anywhere unless you paid $15/per person to sit anywhere. Cool, island atmosphere.
Beautiful hotel with above-and-beyond customer service. You are truly treated like a luxury guest and every employee tends to your needs with the utmost attention and care. I had the most pleasant experience with a woman at the front desk named Diane; she was the sweetest most caring employee I have every come in contact with and I truly felt touched by her energy and her ability to treat me like she had known me for years. She did a fantastic job accommodating my needs as a guest as well. Her energy and spirit for customer service made me keep wanting to come back to the front desk just to talk to her. She was an absolute delight along with all the staff I cam in contact with. I could not recommend a more beautiful hotel in the heart of San Francisco.
It's not just good drinks that your paying for at the Tonga room. It's the good service they provide right when you enter and the surroundings all around the tonga room. It's definitely a must see if your in San Francisco.
